- Pokemon Gold, Silver, and Crystal on the Game Boy Color. is a generation I never fully grew up with. So today I decided to see what the Johto region has to offer! What starter Pokemon to choose next? Who is the new rival to face? Well, time to start heading to a brand new place with a brand new attitude!

Some of the stuff like phone numbers that you gripe about are useful in Crystal such as 3 numbers providing you easy way to get evolution stones and another one where a lady gives you gold nuggets after you show her a marill
Hopefully when I cover HGSS in the future, I'll talk more about the Pokegear!
This is crazy honestly, crystal was my first pokemon experience christmas 2002 when i was 4 and my teenage cousin gave me his old gameboy color and pokemon crystal as a gift, im about to be 26. This guys 23 and his first johto experience was hgss. Its am maxing what a few years difference can make

Great video, bro! I didn't grow up during Gen 2 either, but I did play through it, and I had a fun time! There are issues that I had with it like the lack of access to the two new types and the HM overdose, but I love the Pokemon sprites and I love the amount of freedom Kanto and Johto offer in terms of exploration. I vastly prefer HGSS, but there's still value in revisiting the OG games. Can't wait for the next video! 👍🏾
HGSS is the better experience for SURE. But GSC is good enough for what it gave us at the time. And so I had a fun experience overall.

Pokémon Crystal is great in ways. I love playing as a girl, the animated sprites are nice, you are able to have multiple same-color Bonguri Nomi Balls made at once, Suicune is cool, the Ice Path is sky blue like you are in an ice cave, and the roulette card flip really add in a different way to get coins. Too bad HGSS would scrap Kris and the roulette card flip from even the Japanese versions.
I feel bad for not fully diving into Crystal for this review, but seeing how I wanted the rawest form of Gen 2, I still had a solid time.
Gen. 2 is an odd one for me. On one hand, it does many QOL improvements over Gen. 1 and Johto as an region feels more magical than Kanto. But on the other hand, it also made some weird & dare I say poorly design choices that even HGSS didn't fixed like the limits of Pokemon, lack of Johto mons, level curves and Gym Battles. I do like GSC & HGSS though and no doubt HGSS is the best way to experience the Johto games. But it could've fixed my complaints that would make it to my top ranking favorite Pokémon games.
Yeah I definitely gotta agree with that. I love Johto, it definitely needed more OMPH factor.
I wish I had a chance to play gen 2 Pokémon cause I started playing around gen 5
Honestly? If you want to experience Johto, HGSS is your best bet
Flash is not an HM that's new to Gen 2, it was introduced in Gen 1
I realized that now haha.
You know, despite being a pretty big Pokémon fan, I've never beaten any of the Gameboy games (gen 1/2). Admittedly, I find it a little hard to go back, but I love the sprites and music (I did still grow up with the games, just never beat them). Seeing you go over gen 2 is making me want to finally revisit the first two gens. I do own both Red and Crystal on my 3DS. I'll consider, especially because transferring them from those versions gives them some neat attributes.
This gen was super fun, and I'm glad to have experienced it first hand. I of course LOVE HGSS but this was pretty cool.
Its funny how this works cuz i play gen 1-3 and 5 the most for the classic feel but dont like new pokemon due to the over streamlined feel.
