Yeah it's pretty funny haha. I'm from New England, but mostly grew up in southwest Florida in a place with a large Cuban (and Mexican) population. I could literally walk into any random gas station deli and get an amazing one. I've NEVER seen a Cuban sandwich made like this haha (or Cubano if people prefer). I'm not saying that food can never be altered, but this came across as a legit case of making a delicious looking sandwich using Cuban ingredients, but not making a CUBAN SANDWICH as I would call it. No sliced ham, no mayo, and swiss cheese instead of gouda? That makes it a whole different sandwich entirely (to me).

I am cuban born grew up in Puerto Rico whete they prepare wonderful cubanos in cuban bakeries snd I can assure you, that is not a cubano, first cuban bread is a must, then you are missing the ham, thrn its swiss cheese not gouda and it definetely does not have peppers, onions and let alone bee pollen. But your sandwich looks good and probably tastes fantastic. Cubano is: Cuban bread Swiss cheese Pork Ham Mustard Pickles That is it! Nothing else
It's inspired, like he said at the beginning of the video. It's obviously his twist on a Cubano. All chefs do this kind of thing. Nobody needs a famous chef to slavishly recreate the exact same thing you can find at your local sandwich shop. He's obviously going to make it somewhat unique. It probably tastes 100 times better than the average Cubano.

I hope you're making a video on this video. Because this is nowhere near a authentic Cubano. First of all, most of the ingredients he has are pretty much impossible to find there. Second, a cubano is not a cuban thing, it's a florida thing. Third, Cubanos are made in flat iron press where both sides of the bread are toasted.

The truth is as a Cuban born and bred in the island, now living on England, I most say that the Cuban sandwich is something invented by the Cubans in Miami. I never in the more of the 3 decades I lived in my beautiful island heard or tasted that sandwich. Anyway it's good to see Gordon in there. I can tell the ingredients are 100% Cuban just by seeing the size of the garlic cloves you are using..here cloves are tiny but sooo flavourfull! This is such a massive fuck up, Cuban sandwiches are a Cuban American dish, not only did he go to Cuba where no one can afford to make this dish, he just completely managed it and made his own version that doesn't at all represent our sandwich.

This was a good try. I'm 64yrs and lived in Florida first 10yrs. That is more a sub than a Cubano. I could walk to a local Cuban shop and get this in the 60s before it was invented. These are American made and the signature is they get smashed toasted at the end. I do admire your journey, and you are a great cook. I think this could be done better and more respectfully. Cubano is not a Cuban sandwich from Cuba.

This is not an impediment to conveying my regret and disappointment upon learning of your visit to Havana, Cuba, the country to which I belong, and watching you cook a Cuban sandwich which your own Cubans do not know because they live in an authoritarian dictatorship where the dictators who govern are the only ones who They know it, it hurts my soul because for a Cuban from the town to be able to prepare that sandwich that you prepare masterfully, because I love your work, it seems to me that you are the best, they have to stop eating for at least a month and a half to achieve everything that they can to make it. Please do not allow them to use you to visit countries with so many social problems where children and elderly people die from lack of food, medicine and unhealthiness is everywhere.
Cuban sandwhiches are from florida, those old classic cars are mostly refurbished from whatever spare parts and the old engines are long gone/now mostly of russian origin now.

Not really. Wrong bread and the bread is way too thick, no ham, (or salami). It's nothing of a traditional cubano. The mound of onions and peppers is nothing traditional. There's lots of things Gordon could have done differently to make this A: great B: a respectable cubano.

My Grandfather in West Tampa used to do this. I'd go see this cute little, alive pig and few days later it was delicious pork. Just like this. I grew up on good Cuban and Spanish food. I learned how to cook from the best.

Anyone who has had an authentic Cubano knows it’s just simply roast pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese on French bread lathered on the inside with yellow mustard and the outside with butter, stuck in a sandwich press to let it toast and get the cheese melted, and it’s literally one of the most delicious things you’ll ever have. I can tell the ingredients are 100% Cuban just by seeing the size of the garlic cloves you are using..here cloves are tiny but sooo flavourfull! This is such a massive fuck up, Cuban sandwiches are a Cuban American dish, not only did he go to Cuba where no one can afford to make this dish, he just completely managed it and made his own version that doesn't at all represent our sandwich.

This was a good try. I'm 64yrs and lived in Florida first 10yrs. That is more a sub than a Cubano. I could walk to a local Cuban shop and get this in the 60s before it was invented. These are American made and the signature is they get smashed toasted at the end. I do admire your journey, and you are a great cook. I think this could be done better and more respectfully. Cubano is not a Cuban sandwich from Cuba.
I loved to watch Gordon in Cuba, cooking the piglet on a hammock! I reckon it was one show from the series that I really loved. The beauty of the Country, the under water Caves, the biologic farms, the honey! It was an amazing show. Loved it. Thank you Nat Geo, for the choice of your shows.

This is not an impediment to conveying my regret and disappointment upon learning of your visit to Havana, Cuba, the country to which I belong, and watching you cook a Cuban sandwich which your own Cubans do not know because they live in an authoritarian dictatorship where the dictators who govern are the only ones who They know it, it hurts my soul because for a Cuban from the town to be able to prepare that sandwich that you prepare masterfully, because I love your work, it seems to me that you are the best, they have to stop eating for at least a month and a half to achieve everything that they can to make it. Please do not allow them to use you to visit countries with so many social problems where children and elderly people die from lack of food, medicine and unhealthiness is everywhere.
Cuban sandwhiches are from florida, those old classic cars are mostly refurbished from whatever spare parts and the old engines are long gone/now mostly of russian origin now.

That being said, this sandwich isn't a "Cubano" I would say Cuban pork sandwich. Looks delicious! But it's got no ham, and it isn't pressed. I really love the idea of the peppers and onions though.

Not really. Wrong bread and the bread is way too thick, no ham, (or salami). It's nothing of a traditional cubano. The mound of onions and peppers is nothing traditional. There's lots of things Gordon could have done differently to make this A: great B: a respectable cubano.

My Grandfather in West Tampa used to do this. I'd go see this cute little, alive pig and few days later it was delicious pork. Just like this. I grew up on good Cuban and Spanish food. I learned how to cook from the best.

Anyone who has had an authentic Cubano knows it’s just simply roast pork, sliced ham, Swiss cheese on French bread lathered on the inside with yellow mustard and the outside with butter, stuck in a sandwich press to let it toast and get the cheese melted, and it’s literally one of the most delicious things you’ll ever have. Not saying what Gordon cooked here isn’t amazing, but that ain’t a Cubano sandwich lol
