    That's one heck of a review, I think the longest I've watched on a £10 torch (which I have now bought). Was definitely interested in the bit about the TIR lens vs others. Cheers and keep up the good work.

      This is music to my ears, I love it when my reviews help people make an informed decision. You will enjoy this light. It's small, well built and works beautifully for close range. I will warn you this could be a gateway torch to getting many more! Lol. Thanks for the feedback and I'm happy to help with any questions and advice mate. Have a great day

      I like stuff that is built to last. It gives you confidence in its reliability. I've ended up with far too many lights now but it's very handy for comparisons and backups 👍😁

    I’ve found in my pocket the tops just un-screwing themselves.
    However I’ve come up with a solution for the problem. As I don’t use the silicone diffuser as a diffuser, I carefully slice off the closed end and slide it up the torch till it covers both sides of the screw join. This still enables me to turn it on but makes it stiff enough to be really secure in my pocket. It also means I can hold it between my teeth more comfortably, so that’s a bonus too. And, because it’s glow-in-the dark it means I can always locate the torch

    Got one last year---
    it lives in my edc tin-btw went through 5 lights b4 this-
    I got it because:
    1 It fit in altoids tin
    2 Was inexpensive
    3 universal battery with enough burn time
    4 twist head so wont accident activate as well
    5 easy interface to activate with gloves/in total dark

    FYI everyone: The very cool and useful diffuser on this edc also fits on Olight i1R2 EOS and Olight i3E EOS! That said it probably fits on all similar looking AAA’s.

    The eneloop Pro's are for higher base capacity (rated at 930? mah vs your bog standard 700mah) but at the cost of recharge cycles while maintaining that capacity. If you want to keep that capacity and recharge daily, the eneloop pro's will have to be replaced after a year or so. They will return to standard eneloop capacity and continue to decrease like a normal eneloop, at least as far as I've seen.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  5 років тому +1

      Yes that's bang on. The pros have poor cycles but the capacity is higher, for me that's great though i would never re charge every day. For things like solar garden lights etc that cycle every day you wouldn't use this type of batter chemistry.

  • @MatthewLesterMonkey

    I like the yellow one I have, for the money the build is great, but ended up giving it the wife. For me I would have preferred a single mode. So this won't replace my olight i3e. Similar problem with the sofirn c01, it's great for reading or as a backup but the amount of light and simplicity of the i3e is perfect for me. Not that anyone asked me or anything ;)

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  5 років тому +1

      Very interesting. It's wasn't till I reviewed this thing did I realize how many people have them but yeah I use something like this as an EDC backup on my keys and also have at least a cr123 size unit in my coat pocket. What are your thoughts on sofirn build quality, i don't own one but I'm interested in getting some.

    • @MatthewLesterMonkey
      @MatthewLesterMonkey 5 років тому +2

      @@TrailTrek I have a couple of sofirn torches and can see why budget enthusiasts like them (like me). They are well built and don't break the bank. Personally though I find them a bit ugly and the tint options are generally cooler. Also the SP10B I have doesn't have an amazing UI. A sofirn light would make for a good review, get one in!

    Thorough review as always my friend. My wife prefers the Ultra Tac K-18 over her pink EDC01 due to having a side switch and can use a 10440. The 10440 will give you a claimed 370 lumens but only for 20 minutes. Now that you mentioned the possible vibrating feature, she might change her mind with this light! LOL Agree with you on using NIte-Eze caribiners that have the manual locking feature.

    • @TrailTrek
      @TrailTrek  5 років тому +3

      Thanks mate, he he yes those pink ones have a certain look to them! Nite-eze make some nice stuff but some of the retention bits just aren't robust enough for me.

    • @jayistheway9968
      @jayistheway9968 4 роки тому +2

      The edc01 driver can use a 10440, I was a little bit worried that it might over heat and burn the driver but after testing it on the highest mode outdoor 20 minutes it works perfectly. I replaced the lens of the edc01 with the clear one from the olight i3e after I fried the ie3 with a 10440 lol, and holly crap it's putting out more than 400 lumens. Can run for about 20 minutes on high. I would not risk running it for longer than that since it might drain the battery too low since there's no overdischarge protection.

    • @TrailTrek

    • @jayistheway9968
      @jayistheway9968 4 роки тому +1

      @@TrailTrek I love the edc01, the highest quality AAA light I have and very energy efficient. It's not at compact or light as the Olight i3e but feels a lot more solid. I took the TIR lens from the olight i3e and put it in the edc01 and it produces a nice round beam that's a lot more focused than the original honeycomb shaped lens that dispersed the light everywhere and makes it not as bright. I'm running it with a 10440 on medium all the time and can easily get 45 minutes out of it with incredible brightness. I compared it too my 18650 flashlight that has a medium mode at 500 lumnes and the edc01 is very close on high mode. I would suggest you add a little thermal paste to the threads of the heat spreader so it could dissipate the heat to the body of the light better.

    I also like lumintop but this light has a flaw...the attachment point for the key ring hole is really thin. After a while it's gonna snap n fall of your keychain..that's if you carry it that way..it happened to my the thrunite T01 a few months ago after carrying it on my keychain for about 6 months..I now carry olight i3e due to strong attachment point...n I really don't like olight

    Also the waterproofing only counts when the torch is switched on. This is crap for an outdoor scenario as it won’t stay dry in your pocket. What a half-baked design 😕
