Never been a disturbed fan, had never heard a disturbed album until 2 weeks ago and decided to check out Indestructible and it was a fucking BANGER. Nothing life-changing but i was surprised by how consistently entertained i was the entire time, and a fair amount of the material got stuck in my head, super catchy, which i wasnt expecting. Made me intrigued to check out the rest of their discography.
Having my first listen to "Asylum" and totally digging it! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I stopped at "Believe", and never went back more, but I will definitely pick up "Asylum".
I totally agree about their last two albums, you did bring up a good point about their earlier albums though I grew up listening to this band i was 6 when the sickness came out so I have some nostalgic feel for the first two. Indestructible was sick in my opinion but I can see where your coming from, good insight sir
Disturbed were one of the first bands I got into before really getting into metal so they have a soft spot for me. With that being said, they have an inconsistent discography. The Sickness is a bit overrated and hasn't aged that well. There's good songs, however there's lots of nu metal cheese to be found. Believe, Ten Thousand Fists, and Indestructible are their best albums. I feel when they aren't trying to be either nu metal or alt rock and are just being a hard rock band, they are at their best. Asylum had decent songs but also filler songs. Immortalized was boring and Evolution was easily their worst. I hope Divisive is a step up from their previous two.
I think it will, the few songs I've heard have been fine. Not a colossal step up, more like baby steps, but step-ups nonetheless.
I wasn't ever really a huge fan of the band, but I still like Believe. There's a lot of really cool riffs and catchy tracks on there, and it there are some pretty fun drum parts too. It brings me straight back to my LD50/Lateralus/Reroute to Remain/Chocolate Starfish/Issues era of teenage angsty nu metal :)

Never listened to them and I’m always dubious about bands that do cover versions. Maybe I’ll go listen to Asylum. I might even review the new album when it comes out. You’ve inspired me.
I've been watching alot of your videos and am a huge fan! Great content my guy! I still have a soft spot for Disturbed. They were the first "real" metal band that got me into the heavier side of rock and metal. I seen them live when I was still a teenager when The Vengeful One came out and had such a blast. It's always fun and interesting to see others talk about nostalgia bands and whatnot haha.

As a former disturbed fan myself they were the gateway band that got me into metal music when I was around 14 or 15 years old (both Disturbed and Avenged Sevenfold).
Personally their better years from 2005-2010 and albums like Indestructible and Asylum are probably there best ones (Asylum overall is my personal favorite as well). Ten Thousand Fists I use to love it but not as much as I use to.
But since they came back from their hiatus on 2015 with Immortalized I completely lose that spark and distance away from them after Evolution.
I used to be a Disturbed fan. Nowadays, I only like 3 of their albums.
Disturbed has been one of my favourite metal bands, but I personally think Evolution is great, I love the acoustic elements on most of the tracks and I love 'Hold On To Memories' as the best song on the album.
My favourite album has to be 'Immortalized' in my view, but I really enjoy the other albums as well.
From what I gather from the comments and some friends I have that are fans, Disturbed is a band that requires either adolescence or nostalgia to truly appreciate. Gladly, I have neither.

Which is weird, because I was born in 2000, the same year the sickness came out, and I started listening to disturbed in high school in 2017 and 2018, which would be very late adolescence and early young adulthood, so it’s like I’m an exception.

I got into them when i was probably about 14 or 15ish when their 2nd album came out the sickness was one of the first cd's i ever bought with my own money. My early teens i was all in on nu metal, i thought it was the heaviest shit ever until i was about 17 when a guy i worked at a restaurant with slipped me a Nile album and my whole music landscape started to change. Ten thousand fists was probably the last album i ever listened to by them.
IMO my favorite song from Disturbed is "The Vengeful One", especially when its played with Hellsing AMV.

I haven't been into these guys in many years but Believe and Indestructible were definitely my favs when I was.
Disturbed were one of my gateways into metal when I was 13, when I first heard "Into The Fire" on the Madden NFL 09 soundtrack on PSP (remember THAT thing?). I check on them periodically, but I don't really end up LOVING any of the stuff they keep putting out. They are just kinda'.... there. I remember when that freaking Sound of Silence cover went viral on Facebook and all of the 50-60-year old dads and moms on there were all like, "oH My Goodness!!!! This is so beautiful!!!! 🥺😭😭😭😭" and I was like "...really? 😑".

I like the first 3 albums well enough. Not every song is great but I enjoy quite a few tracks off of each album. The next few albums are a bit more hit and miss for me. Then evolution. Well you described that one perfectly.
Yeah I had a feeling that Evolution wasn’t going to get any high marks. I mean, surely that has to be the band’s low point going forward.

You should look into the story behind Stupify from The Sickness album. I’d say it’s a pretty mature topic that they touch on for that song. Not juvenile at all.

Haven't heard the full album, but the few songs I've heard are... fine. The whole thing will probably be fine.
The Sickness hit me hard as a teenager, so hard in fact that i never cared to listen to another album. It's like a restaurant that has it's signature dish and then there are also burgers and kid's meals on the menu.
I love Simon and Garfunkel's version of Sound of silence but I also enjoy David's vocal performance on the cover! It's ironic how the success of that song led them to "Evolution", which is by far their worst record. Believe and Asylum are my favourites, but the rest didn't age well for me. To be honest, I'm a bit worried of what comes next with "Divisive".
Honestly, this video makes me want to try listening to Disturbed again. I was a never a super huge fan, they had some great songs like Stricken, Indestructible & Asylum, but I never really got into their stuff, they always seemed to be more of a singles band where you just picked out your favorite songs from each album... although I do remember Asylum being really good from start to finish. Great video!
Ive definitely fell off of disturbed as ive gotten older (and i was more into slipknot when I was starting out in my metal journey anyway):
I relistened to The Sickness on the way back home from a wedding for the funsies, and while I'm surprised that i enjoyed a lot more tracks than i figured i would (Voices, Stupify, The Game, Violence Fetish, Conflict), and had fun with the worse songs like Droppin Plates and Meaning of Life, I wouldnt say i enjoy it as an album anymore. Good songs, not a great record to just listen to (and i have the same opinion on albums like Iowa, which ive gotten heat for).
Which I think extends to a lot of their material. Like i enjoy handle of songs on each record up through asylum, and thats where i tapped out.

Im the same I didn't listen to Disturbed growing up and when I finally did it was at the Download Festival and I wasn't impressed with their music while everyone around me loved them
i actually kinda like disturbed just cos of the cheesiness of the band, although i do think david draiman and the band have very little to say, as you said they're just pointing their middle finger like a high school disolusioned youth but theyre grown adults, my go to are the lost childrena nd ten thousand fists just cos i think those are the most listenable from top to bottom

I've heard maybe three Disturbed songs in my life, including the 'Sound of SIlence" cover. Speaking of which: Thank you! i also hate that cover. The thing that gets me is that older folks who really grew up with the original, like my mother, were totally taken in by the bombast. "It's better than the original!" she said. Get outta here! They took away the stuff that made the song great in the first place -- as you said, it's the stark, honest sound of it -- two guys and their guitars (well, and some drums on the later "electric" version) and some absolutely gorgeous vocal harmony, and turned it into this overblown orchestral mess that throws everything but the kitchen sink at you. I like to adopt a tolerant, easy-going attitude about music and peoples' personal tastes, but there's just something so phony about this cover taht I find myself seriously questioning the aesthetic tastes of the people who fall over themselves to praise it.
Anyway, never had any interest in them; by 2000 anything nu metal was so, so very far off my own radar. Maybe I'll poke at Asylum someday.

Believe is a solid album with some strong writing. Ten Thousand Fists and Indestructible have a few good cuts on 'em. Asylum is rock solid. The Sickness is fine I guess. Rest of their stuff doesn't do much for me.
I don't hate the band. They have a few songs here and there that are bangers. That laugh that Draiman does in "Inside the Fire" is really cheesy and delightful at the same time 😆 overall, their earlier stuff is fine for the most part and their later stuff is pretty bland.
I hope he added that laugh for levity, cause of how deep and dark the song meaning is.
I always thought the musicianship of Disturbed didn't match the impact and power of the vocals. I think if the musicianship was more like Charred Walls Of The Damned or later heavier Judas Priest.... the instrumentation and vocal delivery would be more balanced. Bu that's just my opinion. Their riffs have always been really "standard issue" sounding nu-metal.

I agree on your take on The Sound of Silence. Never cared for it. Never understood why everyone loved it so much or why it was one of their greatest hits. It just doesn’t sound good to me and doesn’t even make sense for this band. I mean I appreciate them going for a unique approach, but doesn’t fit for me.
I agree with Asylum being their best album. I used to listen to Believe and The Sickness a lot, but over time, I kind of found them boring outside of the singles. And I also agree with Evolution being a terrible album, I thought the song Are You Ready was kind of catchy and enjoyable, but the songwriting for the most part was so awful. Also, this video was an awesome watch!

Definitely loved disturbed in my early teen years. The first four albums are very nostalgic to me in a similar way that Korn, Seether, soad, slipknot are, as I'm approaching my thirties my tastes in metal have evolved to where alot of that stuff is more bland. Whenever I hear something from the sickness on the radio I definitely don't complain though.
They are an amazing band i think that evry music fan shoud know them
Disturbed is...Not something i outright hate, but its something that im just not really into anymore, i liked them when i was like 14, but nowadays i find their music "okay" not the worst, but not something i would willingly listen to, its like Broccoli, its not bad, but would you really choose Broccoli to eat when you can have something like a nicely done and tasty Lasagne?
Edit: also Sound of Silence isn't the worst cover ever done, that honor goes to About a Girl by Puddle of Mudd

Me and my friend used to jam this band in the school yard between classes from a shitty flip phone speaker, those were truly the days lol. I believe indestructible had just come out too during that time. Heavy nostalgia factor to this band for that reason
Disturbed has always been one of “those” bands for me. Ya know, the one that annoys you because of the sheer amount of talent going to waste. At this point I’m not gonna pay attention to what they do, because even with zero expectations I still get bored. Maybe that makes me “close minded”, but I just can’t find it in me to care.

I didn't care for most of the album Asylum, but oddly enough the title track is easily one of my favourite songs of theirs. Indestructible and Ten Thousand Fists are probably my favourite of their albums. Aside from a couple of songs, I find The Sickness to be a little cringey. Immortalized and Evolution have a few songs that I really like, but for the most part I could take or leave them. I haven't had a chance to give Divisive a good listen, so no opinion just yet.
For me they are like fastfood: simple, convenient, but i would get sick, if i only had them.
That said they remind me of the time where i was 12 and heard them in AMVs. I sometimes like to go back to them, but they never evoke any strong emotions in me. They're kinda like a cheeseburger from Micky D's after a long day of work: enjoyable but nothing extraordinary.

I think The Sickness and Evolution are both terrible in their own ways, but their other albums are generally fine, with Indestructible and TTF being their best probably
I think the worst thing about them is the lyrics at this point, especially the last two albums, all super vague yelling at the air type of stuff. Draiman was never really a poet but he certainly wasn't illiterate either. It's too bad because as a singer his voice destroys he's fucking killer and unique. Also the guitar solos are underrated very melodic and tasty stuff especially on Indestructible

Honestly, I think that'd be kinda boring. A lot of their albums are very similar and I'd run out of stuff to say real quick.

I agree with the overall rating of Ten Thousand Fists, but gotta say that Decadence, Stricken, Guarded and the title track are absolute BANGERS. The rest of the album is pretty forgettable tho.

I defnitely think Asylum was the last good record they released, though I think Believe is by far the best. Everything from Immortalized onwards has been mediocre with the exceptions being a couple songs from the last two albums like A Reason to Fight, Feeding The Fire and Don't Tell me. I find the biggest problem with them to be consistency, they've always been hit or miss.

I think your channel would benefit from more professional video techniques it feels a little bit vloggy if that's what you're going for cool I think with the potential for growth however you would greatly benefit from implementing more professional video techniques and video editing styles to really make your videos pop and appeal and still the same type of content I think you have a lot of potential to be a high-end music album reviewer but I would like personally to see a little bit more of a professional feel
Disturbed was the heavier linkin park for me. The first 3 albums were like Jesus Christ shit them out onto my iPod but they lost me at asylum. Maybe cuz I was transitioning into deathcore, posthardcore and metalcore stuff it wasn’t brooootal enough. Now that I listen to everything and anything maybe I’ll go back and give it a listen. Good reviews I agree with it all Disturbed is a good but not great band.
From somebody who grew up listening to disturbed, I am going to say that Disturbed is very repetitive on many many songs. Albums like Ten Thousand Fists, Asylum, Immortalized all are MY favorite records from them. I can see why YOU don't like their cover of Sound of Silence, but I fuckin LOVE it. Always wondered why people hated it but when you explained it, I get it. I will say I disagree 900% but I respect your opinion.
Thank you for this, I guess. I am not a Disturbed fan at all. It will be interesting to see if there will be haters for this. And I also can't freaking stand their cover of The Sound Of Silence. It is so terrible. It should have never been covered. It's a classic song that needs to remain on its own in my opinion. I would give that song a -10,000 out of 10.

I enjoyed Ten Thousand Fists, it's probably my favorite album from them. I liked Immortalized well enough and Evolution was pretty good to me. I am, however, not looking forward to their new one coming. The name of it just gives me a bad vibe and I've seen David Draimens social medias. 😂

Honestly, I think Trivium's Vengeance Falls is the best thing that David Draimen ever did, simply cuz I hate Disturbed and Veangance Falls has the Trivium vibe. The new album's gonna suck fucking ass and I'm gonna stay away from it like the black death

I know you're Canadian, but considering today is Election Day in the United States, I wonder why you didn't just review the discography of an iconic political band, for example, Rage Against the Machine?
A much better choice in my opinion than a radio darling band like Disturbed that tries to get political at different times and often misses the mark.

A kid commentary…
I never got into Disturbed, but then, I never got into the Nu-metal all that much. Their stuff didn't annoy me, I just didn't feel one way or the other. My ears pricked up when Ten Thousand Fist title track came out. I still think the song is awesome. And at the time, I did notice it was more straight-forward metal than their older material. It wasn't enough to get me to seek out more but yeah, Disturbed doesn't make me want to jam pencils in my ears.
These guys carry the mantra of a singles band, through and through. Which doesn't surprise that the music has gotten consistently staler, but the production being so inherently bad recently is inexcusable! From what I've heard from Divisive, it aint exactly great in that department.
I left Disturbed behind after "Asylum". It is their best album, and what came before had some bangers, some mid tracks, and some absolute shit, imo. Haven't heard the following 2 albums, as I heard they weren't worth the time, and it seems you've confirmed that.
