heh. i wish i could say the same, a couple of guys that was in the drumline with me last year at college marched Cavaliers, my old roomate was a front ensemble member for 3 years, he's also a GREAT tenor player.
what impresses me more than anything is this guys precision. everything is so perfect. every little stick trick, flip, one stick roll (using front and back ends) etc, is so precise and in time. It's truly amazing.
someone in my school did football and marching band and was able to pull it off because he didnt quit. just because someone says you can't do something doesnt mean you listen it just means you proove them wrong.
I just realized that he does a righty traditional in the middle there!!!! That's what he does just to show off a littlllllle bit! He's a genius, best tenor player ever
Some people are going too extreme, I mean, he didn't do everthing to perfection. He sometimes beats awkwardly, but his so natural arm flow fills in gaps. He is precisely God, though.
This is the only I&E that he didnt drop a stick, which honestly in my opinion doesnt matter, but the reason i pointed it out is because i saw colby beers vid from '04 and there were i think two people that said COlby shouldve won over Tim, and i just thought i would ask the general public, because tim deserved first this year ha ha hands down
@386niggah lol actually, i figured it out like the day after i posted that comment. its kinda like you flick it forward at just the right angle and it just comes back to your hand
@leftshoe0 Im with HotPotatoFever, you dont have to write music then give it to the judge or have to write just to say its on paper. Why would any of them bring up sheet music anyways? This isnt a high school competition. And then would they have the time to bring it all out anyways?
I was never in marching band in High School due to athletic commitments, but learned to drum in middle school and still play in rock bands today. One thing I don't understand is the purpose of these solo's. Is it more about showcasing technique than the actual sound? I could juggle my vic-firths all I want, it wouldn't make my band any better..........
Well he doesn't exactly have a band with him in this video. They do these solos because why the hell not try to find out who the best players are each year? They judge on how clean you play(rims, rhythmic accuracy, stroke quality, etc.), technique and (for tenors) how comfortably you move around the drums :)
I know this was years ago but come on man. he composed that whole solo on his own. That just shows you how musical he is. I don't think you understand because you never were in high school band.
Greatest tenor i&e of all time
So musical!
Here in 2020. Love this still.
omg, this is why I completely respect marching drummers this is fucking great!!
This is one of the best tenor solos I've ever seen!
Watched this 12 years ago and still watch it today
Insane!
just talked to this dude on the phone.
whoaaa
This is very musical. I love seeing people who can make a solo so musical, instead of just ramming notes down the audience's throat.
@FluffMuffTater , Thats awsome! I wish he was my drumline instructor
ooooooo my gosh!!!!!
NEVER gets old
Rims of Fire.
breakfast, lunch, dinner, and 4th meal
i honestly think this is the best solo out of his four years
this is my favorite
thats a sweet groove he plays
I lolled at this.
I think if God wanted to play tenors, it would sound just like this!
heh. i wish i could say the same, a couple of guys that was in the drumline with me last year at college marched Cavaliers, my old roomate was a front ensemble member for 3 years, he's also a GREAT tenor player.
uugghhh, i love thos rim clicks at 1:30....awesome
eargasm
So much practice condensed in four minutes of glory
He's a juggler AND a percussionist lol. WOW!
what impresses me more than anything is this guys precision. everything is so perfect. every little stick trick, flip, one stick roll (using front and back ends) etc, is so precise and in time. It's truly amazing.
cant stop... lol
1:52 cant stop
This time the puffy mallet section was my favorite part!
Brain....melted..... uhh....
skills
he won this year and the 2 years after. I&E tenors hasnt been the same since he aged out :/
someone in my school did football and marching band and was able to pull it off because he didnt quit. just because someone says you can't do something doesnt mean you listen it just means you proove them wrong.
To the 5 dislikers, please comment and tell us why you would dislike this.
im a tenor player too!! im proud being a tenor player!! but im just on highschool level.. so need mor practice.. =)
I just realized that he does a righty traditional in the middle there!!!! That's what he does just to show off a littlllllle bit! He's a genius, best tenor player ever
yes tim jackson put a lot of chili pepper songs in his solos.
& its sounds almost exactly like the '03 one too
Someone needs to contact Tim and tell him to try shownig his ability on America's Got Talent.
4 people are addicted to the shindig.
omg. I just took timjacksons i & e solos from 2004 2003 2006 and 2005 on all different tabs. Then play them all at once it crazy like crazy
I see this video and go "YEAH I WANNA PRACTICE AND BE LIKE THIS SOME DAY" ... then i see those singles at about 2:56 and lose all hope.
how did that not start a fire? can you imagine all of the blisters!
... cool story bro
This guy is a beast!
@Drumfun1401 i second that... tim jackson is god's reincarnation
why haven't more people watched this!
4 people are nuts !!!...when they hear "drumsticks" they probably think of chicken
i just noticed, but he can play traditional off his right hand haha thats pretty cool
00:53 Cool at 1:52 its the guitar part to "Cant Stop" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Some people are going too extreme, I mean, he didn't do everthing to perfection. He sometimes beats awkwardly, but his so natural arm flow fills in gaps. He is precisely God, though.
This is insane in a strangely subdued way
his last year was 2006.
he techs at bluecoats now.
like a DJ, nice play
@urcoolcoolcool becuse hes you just saw and herd the most badasst enor player lol
what he can do with one hand, some of our tenors cant even do together, haha
This is the only I&E that he didnt drop a stick, which honestly in my opinion doesnt matter, but the reason i pointed it out is because i saw colby beers vid from '04 and there were i think two people that said COlby shouldve won over Tim, and i just thought i would ask the general public, because tim deserved first this year ha ha hands down
i just ate dinner with scojo

well it kinda is from that solo but he just added more to that lick and added it to this one from what it sounds like
wrist action is suomethin serious
@chsbassdrummer Yea but he's staff for Bluecoats now
he is my director for percussion.
You press the Like button instead. Pretty straightforward concept.
rofl traditional on tenors?! HOLY SCHIEKES!
I guess he likes RHCP
2:56 made me instantly weep.. I bursted in tears"
that highest spock
idk. maybe. he moved to Arkansas, where i am for college
My mind was just raped. omg...
lmao
that was a good one :)
i love how he just walks away at the end. haha
seriously chrissanders07 did. the Blue Devils Snare tech helps out at his college.
dude that was sickkk. you like think in 32nd and 64th note rythms holy shizz
nah those are vega tenor sticks. ehy look like regular snare sticks but theyre a bit smaller & have a nylon tapered end to it made for the tenor drums
Oh jesus, I didn't think actual musicians really thought that any instrument was a matter of just hitting keys or a head or valves or etc
red hot chilli peppers cant stop ?
do they get sheet music from this somewhere or do they write this themselves?
@386niggah lol actually, i figured it out like the day after i posted that comment. its kinda like you flick it forward at just the right angle and it just comes back to your hand
i like the part when he played tenors.
@amkluver12 i think it sounds like a new red hot chilli pepers song
lol also part of his '04 solo sounds a bit like his '05 one
i heard red hot chili peppers in the beginning lol
i just noticed that he was playing cant stop by the rhcp
@mrnickbeyer sounds like can't stop by the red hot chili peppers hahah
@A7X6277 thats weird u picked on that. cool
I'm sure tim jackson wouldn't want you to give up. lol
@thejazzpolice2013 Cavies won that year.
@HotPotatoFeYou have to write something. You can't go up there with no sheet music. Even if its 30 seconds of a 4 min peice
bill buchanan comes pretty close!
:27 anyone know how he does that viz?
3:47. Pack your $#!+ and start getting excited.
@leftshoe0 Im with HotPotatoFever, you dont have to write music then give it to the judge or have to write just to say its on paper. Why would any of them bring up sheet music anyways? This isnt a high school competition. And then would they have the time to bring it all out anyways?
he didnt flip the stick it bounce back from the rebound
0:50 through 2:02 is such a cool sounding part. :D

whats he is playing you will never have the chops to do ......
Dennis Townsend ever
I know this was years ago but come on man. he composed that whole solo on his own. That just shows you how musical he is. I don't think you understand because you never were in high school band.
