I really appreciate you showing these games in their original form. A lot of channels upscale games massively when showing off footage, which I do totally understand (especially for actual play outside of the video), but I find when videos do that it can often muddy the waters of getting a true sense of the game's graphical fidelity for the time, and how well it's aged
So thankfully all my saturn footage is from original hardware as it's one of the consoles i still own. Alot of times when I cover ps1 and n64 I do use emulated footage unfortunately. I know some people don't like it and other don't mind. If you like this one you'll certainly like my other saturn videos:) . Thanks for watching!
@@theretrobro I'll check them out for sure! I don't think there is anything wrong with emulated footage and to be honest I get why people use it because it's often much more presentable for the sake of a video, but I definitely appreciate getting to see the games in their raw form too. Only just discovered your channel so excited to check more stuff out!
Great list! Love the shout out to F-1 Challenge. Beating all races on HARD difficulty unlocks the VERY HARD difficulty which is where this game really shines. You must manage fuel supply, tires, and race nearly perfect with well planned pit stops to be victorious. Extremely balanced. Very challenging for a Saturn racer. Another great sports title is K-1 Fighting Illusion. Its a fast and fun kick boxing title. Thanks for the video RetroBro!
I had NHL 97 NHL All Star Hockey 98 World Series Baseball 98 Madden 98 While NHL 97 was not anywhere near as good as All Star 98, it was the only game in town for a year. I played it so much. World Series 98 is still the best baseball game ever made.
The Saturn had some great sports titles. I loved all star NHL. For football…. Yes football! I’d go Worldwide Soccer 97 or 98. Really are some of the best 32bit football games. Victory does have a brilliant soundtrack though!
Worldwide Soccer (Vgoal in Japan) got a very good graphic. Sadly Sega did not know how to polish the game play. It was too Arcade like. After Konami released Winning Eleven series, it dominated the soccer game.
An excellent well put together video Jon. It's not really surprising with how powerful the sega saturn is that these games would look and play better than their playstation 1 counterparts - the sega saturn simply had so much promise but it was mishandled so poorly especially with all the great games that came with it especially if the north american market looked at all the great games the japanese market had.
All the World Series baseball games on Saturn were great. The game play was excellent. I probably like the 2nd one the best. Was actually a little disappointed initially with 98, but Saturn did baseball well.
I'm a big fan of NHL Powerplay'96 on Saturn...loved it back in the day and I've just played through an 82 game regular season with best of 7 play-offs. It took months 😅. It's so smooth. Modern sports games are sims first, games second.
The other day I booted up Worldwide Soccer 98 and was admiring it. Got me thinking about how amazing a Madden game could've looked (and handled) with that engine. Another missed opportunity by Sega.
Gary Payton&Michael Jordan are on all star team in very rare arcade cabinets Gary Payton still has his! The Glove wasnt on Seattle at first, for whatever reason MJ wasnt on Bulls They were on the all star team instead Which we didnt get until Nba Jam TE in terms of all star teams
I’ve always been a FIFA player and FIFA 97 was my favorite on the PlayStation. I recently bought a Saturn so I could try that version of the game and holy crap it’s much slower and choppier than the PlayStation version. I never tried Sega Worldwide Soccer but from what I’ve seen, it didn’t appeal to me as much as FIFA did.
I would say the best is Sega Worldwide Soccer '97 or otherwise '98. Victory Goal is soooo much worse though. NBA Jam T.E. is of course also fantastic. Also love Winter Heat. If racing games count.... Sega Rally, Daytona USA are superb.
I'm surprised you didn't mention the followups to worldwide soccer. They were outstanding releases that put the first to shame imo. Fun fact on NBA Action 98. Sega was so impressed with the game that they bought Visual Concepts to launch titles on their next system, which of course began the 2K series. NBA Action 98 is also on the PSOne as "NBA Fastbreak". However, though NBA Fastbreak has cleaner graphics, the gameplay is far worse than NBA Action 98 due to lacking defense allowing you to run by defenders for easy dunks, which can't be done in NBA Action 98
World Series 98 had something I still have never seen in another baseball game. A rain delay that causes a cancelation of a season game. I can not play it for a decade put it and still rake. Made a friend rage quit a few years back as it was 22-3 in the 3rd. Ha. Should be Worldwide Soccer 98. And as always never mention NFL 97. Abomination of Sega Sports efforts.
Funnier still?!? Madden 98 top selling game for Saturn in murica… Not Gunstar Heroes, Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop 2, Dragonforce (arguably best game of that generation, still one of the more unique styles till this day)
Soccer V goals series, 96 version is MUCH improved. The graphic, players modeling and action capture is much much better. NBA action 98 is a very good NBA game and it is really better than NBA Live. I had so much fun to play with my brother. PS1 got the same game called NBA fastbreak, with a little better graphic.
I wish I could agree regarding F1 Challenge. It's mediocre at best, and it has absolutely nothing on Formula One on the Playstation. The graphics are malnourished, the collision physics are infuriating, and the handling only feels right using bumper cam. They even let Virgin publish it for some reason. Not a fun experience for me, but I'm glad someone out there squeezed some enjoyment out of it.

I noticed that NBA Action 98 has a gargantuan guy in the crowd on the far right @14:12. He's bigger than the 3 people sitting right next to him.
Wished I had kept all the systems I had over the years, a Sega Saturn being 1 of them. Virtua Cop was way ahead of its time..
The guy blowing in the mic everytime they pass the ball on nba jam kills me

Solid! Appreciate you enjoying the content. Thank you.
The cover art for Madden NFL 98 is so funny to me. He looks like he doesn't know either why they bothered releasing it in Europe.
I had
NHL 97
NHL All Star Hockey 98
World Series Baseball 98
Madden 98

No way is World Series baseball 98 the best baseball game of all time. Great for it's time though.

I just started a 44 game season after making this video lol . Thanks for watching !! 💪
I still play WWS 97 to this day! Love the ball physics. Love the commentators too.

I think the best footie was World League Soccer 98, it was great!!!

Great Perspective.
Powerplay 96 is the best hockey game on the Saturn and the second best of the generation after Gretzky 3D
Finally, someone else who agrees that NHL Powerplay 96 is the best Saturn hockey game!

Gotta love how Jordan’s name on the game is “Guard” 😂
I can't even imagine how much he wanted to be in a game. He was never in nba jam either
@@theretrobro it’s because they had to pay separate just to license him in games. So it was very rare that he would be in them.

NICE! You should check out the video i did on saturn racing games
@@theretrobro I will :)
@@theretrobro have you tried SWWS 97 and 98? These are so much better than Victory Goal.
Worldwide Soccer 97 and 98 are two of the best soccer games created. I'm not a soccer fan, but those releases certainly lead me to become more of one
You a Philly guy? Noticed many PHI teams there! 😎
@@MoonLightWright sure am! Nice catch! #gobirds

Tennis Arena, best tennis game for the Saturn

11:20 the legion of doom line!
Got swept in 1997 by Red Wings
The doom met their gloom
Werent so fine vs the Grind Line 🐙
@@aceassn716 Well as a Blues fan I watched the Wings (well, Yzerman) end our dream of Gretzky+Hull in 1996. You aren't alone lmao
