that argument kills me. i have never experienced severe discrimination for my sex assigned at birth, and i lived as that for 18 years. but ive only been out as trans for 2 years and have experienced living hell for it. even my mom, who has *always* been my biggest supporter, refuses to support my gender identity. i hate living this way. i would be welcomed with open arms if i just up and decided to live as a woman again, and i want nothing more than to do what my family wants so i can live in peace. theyre all i have left. but i cant, so im alone and depressed. i would never choose this and i hate that they imply that not only is it a choice, but also something i benefit from.

Your original statement is actually fairly in line with what the article argues in the first place-- and it's understandable why you (and the author) come to that conclusion. The reality is women ARE subjected to unfair treatment in pretty much every global community.
However, those who detransition list their reasons as being deeply internal, involving struggling with identity, possibly realizing that a particular surgery or presentation wasn't right for them, or even struggling to cope with transphobia. Many people who detransition actually still identify as trans, but in a different way than they originally thought.

Hormones don't act as antidepressants per say (Also because who suffers from depression might as well still have it while on hormones), hormones merely change our secondary sex features to our gender identity which is the main reason we decide to take hormones. Depression from gender dysphoria and being forced to live with the features that you cannot see yourself with, is a large strain on the mental health, in fact, trans people who struggled for a longer period of time in their pre-T bodies, have more mental health issues than another who managed to act faster on it.
@@sebastian4500 I think you misunderstand, I think they were trying to say the 3 year wait would make you have depressive thoughts, but then being given access to the hormones will help alleviate those thoughts sourced from the lack of hormones and long wait, aka they become an "anti-depressant" because they alleviate the depressive thoughts associated with a lack of hormones.
@@Phenrex I get his point (I understood what he meant) but it isn't the right label to give it. Sometimes Depression could come with dysphoria and dysphoria (If there's nothing else causing depression other than dysphoria) for as much as one can take hormones, dysphoria will always be there. I don't develop depression from lack of hormones for example, I get pissed off, frustrated and easily frustrated when I cannot have my dose. I feel sadness mixed with anger, which is far from what depression is, many people confuse depression with sadness.
I feel like women like JK Rowling have some kind of "fragile femininity" going on. They feel like their woman-ness is so precious to them that trans people disrupt their sacred woman space. I'm a woman and I've never felt oppressed or threatened in any way by trans women. Also, I love how she "speaks out" against how sacred being a woman is when she hasn't breathed a word about black women and how they often have it far harder than white women. Interesting.
I genuinely believe that most terfs have suffered a great deal at the hands of men. They reject anything that is even remotely male. The fact that we trans women were born in a male body, well they can't get past that. To them we will always be male, we will always be the oppressor. "Like all men", we hate cis women, are more than likely rapists, etc. And I'm not sure anyone can convince them of the contrary except themselves, once they've opened their mind to the possibility that they might be wrong, and that's always a long shot.

Her tweets and essay have been picked up to further support transphobia in certain areas. A U.S. Senator even quoted her to argue against extending anti-discrimination protections for LGBT+ people. So much misinformation coming from an influential person that people like is dangerous, and even if most people don't listen to her anymore, she keeps lending weights to those who share her "opinion". I am a cis woman and I've always been comfortable with trans people they've never threatens my "woman hood". Trans people have accepted me more then cis people have because my voice is raspy and when I mean people generally Cis people mistake me for a man due to my voice which is raspy due to my heart condition. Trans people have taught me that their's no wrong way to be a woman and that if I feel like my voice is feminine then it is even though the majority of cis people may not think otherwise. I'm tired of JK rowling talking on trans issues because she's not apart of the LGBTQ community. JK Rowling has a lot of soul searching to do on why she feels her womanhood is being threatened by transfolks.

It’s like if an amusement park got 1M visitors a year. Of those 1M, 20% complain about it and said they had a shit time.
Then suddenly, the park becomes more popular until they’re getting 2M visitors a year. Joanne would be the one person person that’d say it was a bad amusement park because the people that have been complaining about the park are on the rise to 400K.
It’s still 20% of the people that go, but as more people come, the number of those who are unsatisfied will obviously also increase.
It’s how things fucking work.
In a way, it’s kind of like Joanne and her transphobic tweets. It started off with her liking transphobic tweets. That got the attention of a quarter of her fans, but not many, any criticism they make would be flushed out by those who still have a high opinion of her.
Then she tweeted about it for the first time. Let’s say for argument’s sake that about half of her fans saw it. Now half of her fans are criticizing her and spreading information to other fans, so now there’s really only a quarter of her of her fans who haven’t seen it.
Then she goes on another rant. Most, if not all, of her fans have heard about it. Most, if not all, of her fans are criticizing her over it. In a similar sense, the more people that hear about Joanne’s tweets, the more likely it will be that other people will come in to defend her. It’s how things work.

I don’t know what you’re arguing against. My comment has nothing to do with children transitioning, although I agree that they shouldn’t be able to take hormones because of all the permanent and negative effects it can have on them, especially if they turn out to be one of the people who regret transitioning.
But, as I said before, my argument isn’t about kids transitioning. It’s just saying that as being trans becomes more and more normalized, the number of people who transition will increase, and the number of people who de-transition will increase as well.
The same way how the more people use a certain service or go to a certain place, the more people there will be who don’t like it.
@Philani Hadebe Not only are you arguing against literally no one, but also you're just making shit up. Blockers are fine. All they do is put puberty on hold. A kid changing their mind at 16 and going off the blockers will have minimal adverse affects (if any, usually none) and will start puberty normally in over 90% of cases.

When I told my doctor I was having gender issues about 2 years ago, I was immidiately dismissed and told a lot of autistic girls question themselves at my age and that I should just not look at trans stuff and see how I feel
It took a while for me to build up the courage, and I couldnt even say that I was trans or was questioning my gender, just that I dont fully feel like a girl (hell, I can barely do it now, I usually just pretend im cis 99% of the time)

Yes of course everyone has both oestrogen and testosterone but the quantity of which you have in your body is what makes the difference. Just like with medicines (since it's a good analogy) you can take 1 tablet of something and see no effect, or you can take 100 and overdose.

@Korallien Omfg. Corsets aren't "uncomfortable" if you wear them correctly. It literally just gives shape to the bodice and provides support to your skirt. It's basically a bra in that sense. Maybe this belief stems from the fact that in some countries, like Iran for example, gay people are often pressured to transition or face criminal charges (for real). In Iran it is considered more acceptable to be trans than to be gay, as long as you're a trans person that is straight and therefore you upkeep heteronormativity in society. Some Iranian religious leaders have come out to say that trans people are just a mistake of God putting a person in the wrong body, but gay people are sinners. This kind of take on LGBT issues is extremely unusual and rare, but yeah.. it exists.
I hate how her entire "essay" is basically her trying to pretend that she is an expert on this topic and this cLEArly well-researched essay is proof of that. Like, um, ma'am, you didn't even bother to use proper citations for your supposedly "reliable" sources, and half of these sources have already been proven to be mostly bullshit anyway.
Also, if anyone wants to see other people's takes on this, Trans UA-camr Jammidodger actually did a video on her "essay", and it was really well done. It is pretty long, but they went through almost all of the points she made and counteracted it with proper, well-researched facts, so if anyone wants to see some hard evidence on why her essay is bullshit, I'd invite you to check that out after watching this!! (hope it's okay that I recommend this)

Canary in the coal mine: I remember this reference. Miners used to take birds down into the mines with them in little cages. If the birds freaked out, that was a person's warning of a gas leak or something...just "danger". So you had to listen to the canary, cuz it's warning you.
