Have to say I like the wheels and stance exactly as they are.
Andy D not correct stance though:
You mean Camber?
It’s probably about an inch too high for my liking, maybe a little less, but those wheels are gorgeous and of course going too low is a fast way to screw up the ride and driveability
Rexity no the cars rode lower in rear then front. The whole high in rear low in front look is all a fad. You want the car to hook on the street the last thing you want is it tall in the rear it will just blow up the tires.
don't touch the car at all, height and tire profile/rim size wise. It's good as is no need to rice the poor thing
195 thermostat is perfectly fine for a modern crate engine, especially with the carburetor the jetting can be sensitive to engine temp.
Unless it’s too old for that🤷🏼♂️
Maybe.. a 185 but definitely not a 160
195 is 90.55 celsius. I have been a car mechanic for 10 years and al I know is that 90 celsius is the normal operating temperature.
@@shaneyurd918 zz6 crate engine isn't that old
@@patrickfitzwater5511 got a 160 in my Camaro, and it's fine, same with my dad's 1972 Plymouth Duster drag car. Even drove my Camaro in snowy cold Canadian winters with it. If you watch engine masters on motortrend, they proved it made more power. Now if it was fuel injected, then a 160 would be too cold since the computer would be making it run too rich because it thinks it's still "warming up"
"But the air...!"
"yeah., I breath it too" LMFAO
RIP nizzy. I really like the Camaro though
"The seals in this car leak everywhere" yea something you'll have to get used to 😂 pretty sure they leaked when new.
Modern rubber seals do work better than cork or rope tho (I'm gonna assume this is a bit late for a rope RMS tho)
@omgwtf696969 didn't they improve the 2006 version of the engine
ahem, that was called MARKING YOUR TERRITORY thank you... jeez
Just use Flex Seal
@@zachmiller9175 the door seals and stuff leak cause its old and cause the aftermarket stuff is junk too but yes the old corks oil pan seals seep oil. I put a brand new long block in my jeep, new cork oil pan gasket, it seeps oil. But my rubber valve cover gaskets that repleced the cork ones there is not a single bit of oil on the beautiful orange paint
Omg Jay this is weird. My Dad and I just got a 63 nova with a ZZ4 and 700r4. Everything you are listing, both problems and "features" is IDENTICAL to our situation. Like literally everything. Its so funny.
That's fun! You can see how he solves it vs you :)
@@Dutch_fellow I think I'd wait and save some money troubleshooting and copy what Jay does haha
You guys should team up!
700r4? I grieve for you. Had a couple of 6.2 diesel vans with that transmission, they really don't have a good reputation. 4L80E (Have that in one 6.2 suburban, and a Hydramatic 400 in the other 6.2 suburban) is far better.... Yes, we seem to be fans of 6.2 diesels. Weak as hell, but good economy for the size.
Sevalecan yea stock they can be very weak. Ours was built when we got it and recently had it refreshed.
All I can say is from daily driving a 79 Cutlass for 7 years is that you never get used to the sounds and creaks even when you're used to it. lol. That's one sweet ass car!
What I would do: Not flowmaster 40's, the drone on the highway is teeth rattling. Even stance, coil overs up front. 15's or 16's with a nice meaty tire all the way around.
I'm excited, computers and cars are 2 of 3 of my main passions. Super excited to see what you're gonna do with it. Makes me miss my 1967 Mustang coupe
you don't have it now? what happened?
@@anuraganand6792too costly for a 22 year old, and now at 37 with 3 kids.... I still know where it's at just in case they sell
Whats the third?

What's the other one?
I bet it's guitars
As a guy who works on computers (building, repairing, reselling, etc...) as a pretty decide side job, who also has a passion for cars, I have so much respect for Jay. I'm rest-modding an '82 corvette that got a karlperformance crate motor... for the late C3 corvette...it's a total monster. Really looking forward to seeing this new content, Jay! And thank you!
Can't wait to see what you do to this one.
Carbed LS7 and a good heads cam combo i can see 600ish to the wheels.
Cant wait till jay says he's putting a 4L80 in it lol
@omgwtf696969 350s are fine and all but they don't make much power, my dad's cousin has a Z28 he bought new. 4 barrel, heads, cam, intake, exhaust. The 1983 Firebird my dad used to have would walk away from it with a stock 400 small block. He had a bit of a weight advantage but the 350 is just too small to do much with. An LS7 will be way better.
@omgwtf696969 you don't know what you're talking about, it already has headers, there's no downpipes, there is only one cam
@@boostaddict_ you can build a 350 to make 500hp n/a pretty easy, even with all those mods it didn't have enough compression or the heads weren't good enough. With a roller cam and valve train and 10:1 or higher it would have woken that thing up better. It's really easy to over cam a small block especially if u don't have enough compression for all that cam ur trying to run
cleetus/garrets ls7 in his "dale truck" makes 660 to the tyre

@@shadowreaver752 The Camaros are probably my favorite American cars ever made... I even happen to own one. And I 100% Agree, fuck the LS7 you don't want that motor anyway 2JZ it! And Jay if you happen to read this, no really.. DO NOT USE A LS7.. if you have that money to spend, buy a Dart block LS3 and build it right.
@@gittyupalice96 I will second the LS3 and add the LSX iron block as another option. The LS7 has valve problems, they drop them into the combustion chamber when the stems snap.
For a fun daily driver Jay id recommend putting an EFI kit on this engine, making it fuel injected! Better starts, fuel economy and horsepower! Highly recommend, would make for a great video as well.
Yeah, I don't know why on earth anyone would put a carborated crate engine in a car. The only place for a carborated engine is if you're trying to restore a car to factory specs.
Shout out to Vicegrip Garage's "Factree" haha love it Jay
You are my idol. I was 17 when that car was built and loved the look and, if it is an SS, the power it had. It was magical. Great sound. I look forward to your work results. SoCal is a great place to live and watch cars. You lucky guy.
I remember the 350z auto, that the wife could drive... Didn’t last long lol ! Best of luck with the new car Jay
67 is my favorite year. I think the pro touring look is my favorite look on these bodies. Of course everyone seems to restore these so there is plenty of opinion on what looks good or doesn't. I have NO DOUBT which ever route you take it will bring the car back to what its glory was/should be.
I work at Vintage Air 🤘. So awesome to see this beautiful classic with system we designed 😁
You guys are life savers lol
As a Texan yall are doing gods work
well, watching Jay taught me about computers, time to learn about cars!
I would check over the breaks an tyres, being able to stop is kinda a must.
And the better the stopping power is, the safer you are.
Stay safe.
Hey, Jay;
OK, I'm 65, So the '67 [specially the SS] was SO EXTREMELY SWEET!
BTW, the 1st gen is SO MUCH cooler than the 'pontiac' style later gens.
The paint scheme is great, but it ain't the 'custom' "last" paint job I dreamed of back in the day.
My 'dream' paint scheme was a medium silver metallic w/ all black chrome trim.
/_ /_
/ /
BTW, starting old carbed cars, specially 4-barrel hi-per V8s means you have to learn how to start it. But not so much when its warmed up.
The 'electric choke' is cool IF the temps get low at night-means you can crank up & drive off.
I'm old so take my advice for what its worth, TAKE YOUR TIME!
I think you can afford it [$-wise] but taking your time will pay off in the long term.
BTW, you're gonna' want to check out Sweet Project Cars on youtube.
Once the rust is gone in the doors/body panels you can pour an oz or 2 ATF inside the panels to stop it from rusting & KEEP the drains open!
Have a GREAT day, Neighbor!
I just love when Jay calls this a project car and all the work will be done by someone else ;)
he's so much more chill in these videos than in his pc videos, so much less digress and so much less fuckups when he's talking. i love both but you can tell which his element
3:73 Eaton posi in the rear. Any lower it won’t highway well.
This is my hands down favourite car I have ever laid my eyes on. Whether it's the as or not. This project right here is the reason I'm subscribing. I truly want to see this beast turn into a gem.
in the new year i was clearing of subs... so happy i stayed sub to this :) looking forward for updates.
p.s. as for what ide do would be the modern touring style... had skinnys before and dont miss it
Love the car. I've got a 68 Camaro with a 454, and you're right about the "smells like the 60s' thing. It's the best thing ever to roll up next to a Prius and just let them enjoy what they're missing in life. It's a service to society. ;)
Please end every episode with a soundclip from the car you're working on. The sound is half the reason to have a classic car, and a carbed ls6 will sound awesome.
one thing for any carburated motor:
they sound sooo good! differently from those eletronic fuel injectors what sound muffled even with a straight pipe...
Carburated inline 4 motorcycles have a little rasp to em that I absolutely looooove
yeah if I were to "update" my Nova and remove sound I would go all the way with an EV conversion
no LS for me thanks
Damn you Jay! I worked in IT for 6 years and worked auto parts for a year, this vid got me hyped for cars again. Time to watch a bunch of car vids.
Jay I have a 1973 Cadillac Sedan DeVille welcome to the classic scene! Love the Camaro!
Jayz Two Cars a breath of fresh air to the regular PC stuff
Sounds like that chassis is going to need some straightening.
Yup
I agree, from all the stuff he pointed out
I only found this after watching Jay build computer's for a few months and learning from his channel. Only 24, but have been working on cars from 8yrs old
A nice old car exists. Americans: Let's swap LS in it!
Yeah it’s really sad
Well an LS is a modern 350 so why not
@@atomicbogator6799 ls1 and ls6, yes. But it's fuel injected and objectively better than the old school stuff so they're bad 🙃.
@@dumbdumb572 personally I'd never LS swap my 68 Nova but something like a little slammed chevy s10? Why not
@@atomicbogator6799 I have a 69 el Camino that I'm in the process of rebuilding to turn it into a solid everyday driver and I genuinely cannot wait it swap out my mid 80s 454 for an ls1. It'll truly bring my build to that next level of not only reliability but also fun I feel.
As a car guy myself I have a few suggestions if you are looking to cruise it around and have something the wife can drive. Great choice on the engine already. Put a 180 thermostat in it. 160 may cause some slight issues with the carb. Go 3.73 gears instead of the 3.90. It may not sound like much but I did notice a difference in my 71 Chevelle. Made for a better cruising experience. Also don't go with pizza cutters and drag radials. Loved it on the strip but hated driving around town.
He's got quite the learning curve being his first classic. Hahaha
Jay does everything I want to. Have a tech youtube channel, Jay does it. Got an 17' SS Camaro, Jay gets the one I really want, the ZL1. One day I'll get my 71 Camaro running, Jay gets the running 67. Keep living my dreams Jay. I'm hoping this is a look in my life in 10 years. I'm going to like this channel.
"Do you really need more horse power?"
Well no... nobody NEEDS more horse power, but who doesn't WANT it? Mostly people that aren't fun at parties and people that have been driving a soulless appliance of a car their entire life.
When the ceiling fan is louder than your car......You become dead to me as a person lol.
It depends. Once a car gets so fast it's not really fun to drive on the street anymore. Sure the power is there, but you can't really use it.
I'm happy I watched till the end. 9-10ths was good, but the final tenth made it all worth it.👍🏾
Looking forward to the progression. Enjoy your new ride!
I heard twin turbskis. I want to see some big ol whooshy bois dumpin out the hood.
I like the 67 Camero. I'd get any late 60s Camero, they are all awesome.
The car seems like people kept wanting to upgrade it, but didn't completely know what they are doing and made a lot of mistakes.
I love the idea of getting rid of all chrome and doing silver with black accents, that would look sharp.
If you shape the body a bit, make it nice and clean, you could get away with some more modern tires. But I'm a sucker for the classic muscle car look with big, fat rears.
17:33 love the sound of a V8
That sound just put a huge smile on my face.
We had to deal with some surface rust with our 944 and having to wire wheel it in some places, treat it and repaint it. Also added a flip out head unit from Pioneer with Apple Car Play and a backup camera. It's so nice to have that in an old sports car. Awesome new project Jay! Really dig the Camaro!
sadly in Germany where i am, its impossible to hear such a awsome sound legal on the public streets
HALLOOOOOO DOME DOMEEEEEEEEEEE WO BLEIBST DU
Hehe boiiii
I am a big fan of lowered old muscle cars and I think it would really go well with the cruiser vibe. Car sounded amazing at the end as well, wow!
Dude you’re doing a full body off stop kidding yourself.
it needs it though...
@@TheObsesedAnimeFreaks it definitely doesn't need it, but it's his car and he will do what he wants with it
My dad rebuilds old cars I fool around with them to I love it. My uncle had a yellow 68 Camaro but I would throw a ls1 with a 5 speed just as a cruiser and paint it a candy apple red. I been searching for a 65 Chevy Impala to build.
Keep it original`ish... no need to "Modernize it" when you already have a new`ish Camaro.
I dig the idea of adding the modern touches with the LS7. I think that would pair well with a more modern stance with larger wheels/tires. If you intentionally got a car that didn't have matching numbers so you could do it your way, I'd go for whatever gives you the best driving experience with your setup. Drag setup could be fun but would likely be a nightmare when you drive it for the reason you intend to, as a cruiser. Putting together a plan for a project is one of my favorite parts of any build.
the reason you have the moister in the trunk is due to the spoiler. Most of the time
when people put those on the holes were often to big plus back in the day
we weren't concerned with rust because we had no plan on keeping it.
One thing I would is look to see if the rear seats folds down, they made a
bunch with that option and a lot of people did not know about it.
Good looking car Jay!!!
I'm glad you took on this project, very good condition compared to what I'm taking on but still very cool idea doing a resto-mod camaro. Consumer concepts builds are always dope to see. One day I hope I can resto-mod a s13 coupe. Also I drive a 240sx with a Automatic Transmission, fixing all the chassis/suspension issues that come up along the way as I DAILY DRIVE it. Glad you're living your dream man! Also keep up your car channel because I'm sure this is way more fun to do for you! Here a list of ideas for retro mods: Computer in car thats water cooled.
I cant wait to see more content on this car. Same year as my dads first car all the way up to 1999. He sadly sold it when i born to help keep a roof over our head. im sure if he didnt i would probably be driving it right now.
zZSandManZz so glad you can still drive and didnt lose your legs
JayzFourEyes Thank you for being there for us Jayz.
There are a couple of places to check for a build sheet for your car. First check the top of the gas tank, drivers side front corner.Second place would be underneath the rear seat in the springs. Third place would be underneath the heat barrier material on the hood of the car. If the car was built in LA you have a fairly good chance of finding the build sheet in one of these locations...The Norwood plant was really good at removing the build sheets from the tank and back seat areas...
Im soooooo glad the car channel is back with a project. I really like restro cars that look oldschool in appearance but underneath have alot of modern features. For the wheels id go with a bit of a hybrid oldschool look. Id do five spoke, 17 or 18s with like 45s or maybe even 55s on the sidewall, flushed up, and wider just like and inch or maybe 2. But thats just me
My 2cents... 1) Keep the 3.08s unless your trans plans include overdrive. 2) Go with the lower profile tires and wider rims. It'll look sweet with that silver/black plan!
Hear me out: your ZL1 1LE's engine/trans with proper racing exhaust (pre-CARB allows that) and do that silver and black paint scheme, some real clean looking street wheels and tires and you're able to throw drag radials on it to go to the drag strip on the weekend. Half your build is right there. 😀👍
Love the Dakota Digital gauges. As somebody who specializes in wiring classic cars please do a thorough inspection of the wiring. I have seen many cars look amazing on the outside but once you look under the dash it's a rats nest. Cant't wait to see more of this build.
Been teamJay since '14 ...glad ur back on the car stuff...was watching some old techtalk with u and barn Hercules last night
My dad (may he RIP) had a 67' Camaro, 350, 4 on the floor, red convertible with a white top and white interior... I always wanted to build one with him before he passed but never got the chance... You dont understand the joy and slight regret I felt when I found out what you were building. I'd love to see your take on the whole pro touring theme...
EDIT: What I would do with it?
Bring it down to bare metal body off restoration to start, and get everything straight again after that, tub the rear. Then full Hotchkis suspension underneath. Custom Wilwood brake set up, and change out the steering components for rack and pinion. Whatever I have to do without cutting up the body to fit 305's in front and 315s in back. Modernize the interior slightly, bluetooth apple carplay/android auto, better bolstered seats also rear seat delete since only amputees can fit back there. Paint it battleship grey (I think it's a Ford color on the GT350 but I love it) with Black RS style stripes, trade the bright shiny chrome bits for black chrome bits. 18 inch HRE wheels probably in gunmetal. 3.73 rear gears, carbon drive shaft, sequential 6 speed, and a carbed and dry sumped LS7 under the hood which would be vented...
I learned to drive with an 81 GMC pickup. Pumping the gas pedal to get the carb goin was the hardest habit for me to drop after I moved to an EFI system, lol.
Nice project. I’m so glad you are into cars and tech. I know there are a lot of us out there and it’s cool to have solace where you get some of both. Also love that you like to learn about these things and take us along for the ride. I have three projects. 04 Acura RSX type S, 97 integra gsr and a 3rd gen 4Runner. My wife is very understanding lol.
Well it is not Mustang but always happy to see these old cars saved. Working on my own 67 Mustang that my mom and dad bought new in 67. Looking forward to seeing your progress. With body panels, many of the aftermarket panels fit like crap. So it is not uncommon to patch original panels instead of replacing then completely. It makes fitting things easier.
For the trunk rust Jay use a product called evaporust. It's a liquid that dissolves rust but leaves the clean metal and it doesn't attack paint. It will do a much better job than a wire wheel since it can get down in All the pits left by the rust
I've got a 1974 Chevy Nova in a similar situation. Looks great from 10 feet but still needs a lot of work. Cant wait to see the journey of this car
Its heartwarming to see you work on this classic my dad recently passed too and we wanted to build a 69 or 70 and 1/2 (he had a 70 1/2) I always loved the 67 though but we never got to his passing is still hard for me to deal with and money is tight so I'll never be able to own one but maybe I can get some satisfaction from your videos thank you
I would keep the chrome trim mainly because thats how it came from the factory as opposed to adding chrome to a car and making it ricey. I like the idea of the LS7 and carb combo. Regarding the stance of the car, I think somewhere in the middle would be most appropriate. I love the skinny tires up front and fat tires in the rear but depending on how you'll be driving it, maybe a more standard approach would work best. Pro touring look will probably give a more rough ride specially if you plan to just cruise around. On my 71 challenger that Im restoring, thats what I kind of did. I put M/T 275/60/r15 drag radials in the rear and 235/60/r15 standardish tires on the front. Later I may increase the width of the rear tires for a more fat tire appearance
if your blinker stalk issue is anything like my 84 dodge pickup, when i first got it, i was messing with mine and it went completely loose, it wouldnt work at all. i thought i had broken it, but after pulling the steering wheel off, turns out it just popped out of place. my truck actually came stock with a holley 2 barrel carb, and while the stock one is not in there currently, its still OEM. I do not miss fuel injection, abs or traction control, though keeping a carburetor happy, while simple, is still a task. its mostly driving it. my truck, i can go a couple of days without running it before it starts giving me trouble. make sure all electrical connections are secure. especially with the coil, cap, rotor, plugs and wires.
I have built many 69 Camero's by myself over my 64 years of life. Build what makes you happy f everyone else. Building a car from the ground up is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Not like the computer I just built. I would be grateful for your help pertaining to the computer build that has been disconnected from reality. I did my research prior to the build computer build and everything was compliant. It booted with no errors. It has had numerous issues and Asus support has been so NOT helpful! (Great MB worst support). I don't know if you would help expose the BS I have experienced with the MB ( Prime Z790-A). I think you are as crazy as me!
Love that!

In Re the air comment, cars like that are actually why I support CARB and electric cars and trying to reduce fossil fuel usage. In my perfect world my kids will be able to take an electric train to work or school, I'll have an electric car or motorcycle for family trips, and then on the weekends people will go to trails and ride 2-stroke dirt bikes or go do track days in 700+hp muscle cars where people don't have to worry about cheap gas mixed with 10% ethanol that destroys the engine. And people will go out on the weekend and cruise around in classic cars because we won't run out of gas because we only use it for hobbies and all the necessary stuff we use fossil fuels for will be done with renewable energy. That'll never happen though so, you know, smoke em if you got em.
Please don't ditch the chrome. It's so classic and beautiful. 67 was my favorite year, really loved the front end of the RS. 427 definitely the LS7 is amazing, but I would go for FI, I had way too many old bikes and pickups growing up that were just such a pain, I mean, FI was pretty terrible until recently in my not-professional opinion, but the current setups are just so great and you will get power and fuel efficency. Though it's warmer where you live so you won't get the same issues we did in the northern midwest in the winter. Wheels, no reason to not get 17" or 18" wheels, actually fitting a C5 front end or similar and going with oversized disc brakes all around is a reason to use larger wheels. Biggest thing I would be worried about is letting your wife drive it. Not because that's a bad idea, I think that is the best idea to get a car like that with an auto trans, but because as soon as you pointed out that the windows don't all close all the way and then with the issues with the rear quarter, you need to get the frame looked at. Even if it's 2* off front to back that would still worry me at freeway speeds. That car hasn't just been "hit" that car has been "crashed". Whether it was reported to the insurance or not I would want to make damn sure that frame was straight as an arrow before I let someone I cared about take it out.
You could decode the vin. Its pretty common to do. The floor pans, behind the front wheel wells, the trunk, and the spring seats in the rear are most common to rust. Old cars are amazing. You can go to fuel injected. Id prefer the carb. Cant wait to watch what ya do with them.
I'm ordering a Buzzken DPF delete downpipe for my wagon this week and there is no way in hell my car will ever be CARB legal in CA. Makes me really glad I live in TX where if you drive a diesel your vehicle is not emissions tested. Plus my inspections are only $7. Safety check only baby.
Looks like an awesome buy, I just hope the lower quarter panels aren't too bad under that paint.
Although the '69 is my all time favorite car ever made you made the right choice to go '67 over '68. It's always best to have the first or last of a series rather than somewhere in between. Kind of like not wanting to be "the middle child". lol
I look forward to following this build.
Congrats. Resto-Mod's are the best. All the good looks of the older muscle cars (and smaller platforms) with modern parts. Really looking forward to this. Also, autos with the right gearing are perfectly fine. Great for cruising around, especially in high traffic areas. Also, pittsburgh tools? A fan of the freight as well.
That car with a 427 sounds like a riot. I'm pumped for the build. Keep the chrome though.
If you go with the 15's and skinnies, leave the interior classic looking. Pro tour look and the interior is wide open for change. Might as well throw a mini tub in it if you are redoing the quarters as well. Love the 67 they are in my top three favorite cars.
Jay that trim the vent window is hitting is off a 68 Camaro which had no vent window. That is why. Rally Sport taillights too. Have fun.
My mom had a dark green 69 Z28. Really looking forward to seeing more videos with this car.
Beautiful car Jay. Hopefully it reminds you of your father every time you drive it.
I wish I had that opportunity to get a sweet car like that. Congratulations man.
As far as inheriting someone else's project car goes, this one is... reasonably well done and a good starting point, other than the auto body work which is just as much an art as it is a science; very few people can get that right.
had to learn the "old ways" in my first daily driver, a 72 ford, having a manual choke over an automatic one is a god send when dealing with old carbs and fine tuning its start/idle. i hate the pull chokes because they have too much play over time. I rigged a pop/click choke knob from a dirtbike onto a 65 mustang because the fit and fine tuning was so much better XD
“Smells like 1967” 😂😂 awesome video excited to see more of this Camaro
Cant wait to see how it looks with the black trim on silver that color combo should look amazing on that car
Wish your dad was still around to build this up with you. It's a beautiful car. I'd love to do something like this with my dad but I feel like it will be too late once I have the funds or the time.
Love the idea of sleepers! Go classic on the wheels and keep her stock on the outside! Keep her mildly quiet, but when wide open, she should sound like a car!
Carbed LS7 is sweet! If you haven’t started on it yet you should do a high revving de stroker build to take the thing back to the old can am days
This is awesome. Can't wait to see the build. My dad and I built a '68 Camaro (still not 100% done and probably never will be lol). Ours is also not a real SS, even though it has the badges and SBC. I painted the car myself and I had to do the Z/28 stripes. The fact that it was a I6 originally means that I don't feel bad customizing and driving the shit out of it.
My uncle races a 1970 Camaro so I'm excited to see what you do with yours. Congrats Jay on your purchase!
