That's the thing with (V8) sleepers - if you want to make a really good one, you have to start with a car that already came with that engine type, like a crappy, 120 - 150 hp one, but a V8 nonetheless. That rumble is a dead giveaway for a car that only came with a 4-banger...

Just have a local shop put a plain old 350 into a cheap Volvo wagon. It'll smoke tires all day long. Get a Volvo that doesn't run for a few hundred bucks, and a junkyard 350 for a few hundred bucks and pay a little bit to get it put together. Don't let your lack of knowledge prevent you from having the car you want, for cheap.
You could probably end up with a running sleeper for a few thousand bucks, if research a bit and plan it out.

I made and fitted several headliners but now having watched this I’ll be looking at adding some serious tension to the rear cabin area. Epic mate, we’ll done. I spent a blissful six months grafting a Subaru engine into my vanagon. Couldn’t resist putting a full Sti exhaust system onto it. Small children would cry and dogs shake when I drove it down the high street

Volvo actually had a supercharged estate car in their mainstream line up that is legendary in Europe and very fast. They used to tune it further and race it.

supercharged? what model are we talking here? there’s plenty of turbocharged volvo estates but i’ve never heard of a supercharged one. please elaborate

@@theshrugggd3313 sorry I meant turbocharged, put it down to a senior moment.

@@mattwright2964 thats fine. but yes i’ve heard the turbocharged 240s are very fast and fun to drive. i’m currently in the process of rebuilding the engine for a 245 turbo and i have yet to experience driving it.

I love sleepers. I once bought an old Holden ute in OZ. It had old rusty narrow wheels, undercoat on the body and a bit of surface rust here and there, but under the bonnet was a super charged 350 Chevy, top loader gearbox and Muncie diff. It was a beast. On the way home it was so funny to look at the faces of people in great high powered cars as this thing just left them gobsmacked.

I had this model years ago, and I loved it! Murdered it by literally never changing the oil (young and stupid), but maaaaan I would love to have it again and do this to it. Actually even better for me would be lifting it and making it 4WD (live in the mountains where it snows). Anyway, this was incredibly well done, thanks for taking the time to put this video together and show us how it's done!

My mom had a 1985 Volvo 240 DL sedan for eeeeevvvvaaarrrrrrrr. If it literally hadnt rusted and rotted I would have loved to have turned it into a sleeper beast like this!
Badass build dude, your fab skills are incredible!
