@@goldenhd9656 That was not a problem, its a deliberate choice, not an accident because they were too dumb, they want their parting to be painful and sad and increase the guilt Clark would feel, so they have him let his dad die after an argument where he says you aren't my real dad. The issue is the scene just doesn't feel plausible, people who like the emotion expressed in it see past that and defend it, while others just think its contrived, they wanted to set up a scene that means Clark would let his father die and be ridden with guilt and this was the choice they made to carry it out. Possibly they could have chosen a better way, but they didn't. Also, its a writing issue, changing the actor would not make the dialogue or story better.
I think he misunderstood that. It shows that he still has yet to understand completely why his dad went away. Even if I knew my boy could lift school buses and see through walls. You think I'm letting him EVER set foot between me and a tornado? I'll go before he does. That's just how it is. Love, boys and girls. Love makes you do the damnedest of things. Reason takes a backseat in those moments.
@@malcolmarworst thing you can do is leave things on a bad note with your father. My dad ghosted us when i was 19 and in college. Bizzrom moghor Mate, if we humans found out about a man who can fly, is invulnerable, has laser eyes, what do you think we would do? Experiment on him, treat him as a threat, make him an enemy to the state, put him in a high pedestal as if he’s God Kinda like what the other movies did
Just finished saying you’re not my Dad. Realizes his mistake saying that and was about to apologize. Tornado comes along and takes his Dads life while he watches. All because his Dad didn’t want people to see his real power. Heart wrenching moment that is very emotional. This movie was so well done, one you’re glad they remade for todays timeline.
At this moment, Clark is just around 19 or 20. Didn't even know his full potential and power. For every dad, his child is precious and he didn't want any harm to his son. So he tried to save the dog on his own. This was a message to Clark from his father that no life is left unchecked. And to protect the people you love from any harm just like his father had done to save him knowing or unknowing that his son is indestructible. It doesn't matter he knew or not, he wouldn't let his child go near any tornado. For him, Clark is not Superman, he is his child. That is what a father would do. You would know if you are one.
Fathers... MEN.. always sacrificing themselves for others, may it be children or a wife. Women do not have the same wiring unfortunately.. that's why they didn't make that scene with Martha dying to free the dog..
The frick is a tornado gonna do to Clark? He carried a bus out of a river, also Martha was sitting at the back with the dog so why didn’t she get him, they also opened the door before the tornado got serious so what kind of dog would just sit there instead of try to run out, ALSO WHY’D THEY EVEN BRING THE DOG IN THE FIRST PLACE
@Into Infinity Oh for god's sake are you serious? Superman obviously COULD save his father from dying. His father told him not to save him so he could have a normal life. You realize that he actually almost had a normal life until Zod came and he surrendered. You notice how the only one to figure out about Superman's true identity was Lois? Maybe he should be ashamed that he let his father die, but it wasn't a stupid death at all. Seriously, you sound like a 9-year-old on the internet ranting about this death because you couldn't accept the fact that he died, you're on the fourth stage of grief, anger. Now accept it and move on.
It's ironic. How the only guy who can protect the invinsible man of steel is a humble mortal dad. Chose to give his life to protect his son from the emotional pain of being discovered before he was ready.
It's cuz when we're upset about something we say things we don't mean. Anyone's who's fought with their parents have experienced something in this area at least once but deep down even when we're mad we still love and care for them. So a small argument is like irrelevant to him losing his father figure
He was like " dont come Clark stay" and when the storm was too close to carry him away with a smile and not saying a word he said "Good bye son" one of the most heart breaking scenes of any movie I've ever watched
No matter what, I would have saved my father and more importantly he could have moved so fast and saved him without people noticing and even if people saw, so WHAT!!!!! put it down to a hallucination!! Terrible idea, just lame writing!
This scene kills me every time with sadness. Relatable in the sense that I said some nasty stuff to my dad before he unexpectedly passed away. I'll never forgive myself.

Actually by seeing the reaction and the hype that justice league snyder cut is getting , I think people have now understood that snyder's movies were ahead of their time , people have understood his movies only after rewatching man of steel and BVS ultimate edition then realised what these movies actually meant and have started to apriciate his vision

Winchester2247 nah.. it was decent at best. This scene especially is just dumb. As well as jon kents reaction to clark saving the bus full of kids. He said let em die like wtf father of superman says let kids die?? Halfway decent movie but still so many things wrong with it.

His dad ‘s right. After more than 5 years we’re still not ready for this masterpiece. Bro thks for your likes and comments 😉. Now whos hyped for Matt Reeves 's "The Batman" 🦇🦇🦇
I bet Superman regret every word he said there. His super good persona of Clark Kent is all thanks to the caring Martha and Jonathan Kent. They were the ones who made him into nothing but good. As divine and alien as he's by nature he still represents the very best of humanity and the Kents deserve credit for all that. This element is so important to the Superman character and it's one that cannot be forgotten!
Ah, yes, "made him into nothing but good" while teaching him that he probably should let children die and that he has to value his everyday life more than saving someone else's actual life. Obviously, the very best of humanity is to tell the people that have raised and loved you that they are not your parents because someone who has had literally no interaction with you appeared out of the blue. Gotcha.
I always loved the shot at 2:36 of Clark looking back at the people and stepping out, knowing he would reveal his power only for his dad to stop him to keep his identity safe. Truly under appreciated film and way over-hated in my opinion
actually....why not? i mean's he can just fly hgis father away from the ppl and prolly make them forget? (can't help thinking the Dad COULD be saved somehow)
People misunderstand Jonathan's sacrifice here. It's NOT just about Clark revealing who he really is to a host of people and exposing his true nature to humanity (which is what would inevitably happen), but Jonathan wanted to give his son time to figure out who he is for himself...BEFORE letting the world know about him. Jonathan always knew that the type of man Clark chooses to become will define who HE is TO the world as he will be a force of irrevocable and undeniable change to the world. Jonathan was protecting Clark from humanity's worst impulses...their fear, suspicion, mistrust, doubt and possibly even their envy of his strength and abilities and desire to exploit this, or as is the case with Lex, their desire to maintain their supremacy and dominance such that they would seek to destroy anything they perceive as a threat to that. And in so doing, Jonathan was simultaneously protecting humanity from Clark becoming someone who would be defined by that fear, mistrust...exploitation etc. THIS was done far better in the Christopher Reeve Superman where Jonathan tells Clark...YOU are here for a reason, I don't know what that reason is or whose reason it is, but one thing I know is that it isn't to score more touchdowns.
I've always thought that Jonathan told his son to stay with all the people (including his mom) under the overpass because if the worst happened Clark would be able to save the many instead of just the one. Especially as overpasses have a tendency to be dangerous in design when hit by twisters.
@@Fickji That's an interesting take, but this notion was not expressed at least in the non-verbal exchange between Jonathan and Clark. Jonathan waves off Clark as he seems ready to race towards his dad to try and save him. This would have been great moment for Jonathan to have whispered (and for Clark to hear): "Stay with your mother, and protect her and the others, even you can't be in two places at once."
I like this take a lot. It gives meaning to everything Clark was doing at the beginning of the movie (bar waiter, ship crewmate, hitchhiking) before being the journalist he is. It was less about finding jobs to stay unknown and more about learning his place in the world.
This clearly shows how important is the way you are raised or who raised you. Clark was raised by kind and good people therefore he grew up as one too. He could easily dominate earth should he had fallen to wrong hands when he was a baby
and that's why homelander is a heartless selfish villain, he grew up in a cold lab with only a small blanket while his "father" look at him through a glass window
Yup - one of the stupidest scenes in all of movie history. No, don't have your invulnerable son who can't be hurt run and grab the dog. Contrived bullshit.
Kind of annoying too. You realize how much more people would enjoy this movie if it was released later in the years? This movie was given way too much disrespect. Best Superman movie.
If I made another comment like this, some other UA-camr or commentator would’ve bashed me and rant about how they disliked this movie. I mean everyone has a right to an opinion, but don’t be so selfish in trying to convince folks that the movie is bad or trash just because the opposite side disagrees. So now I take it all in stride, and just let them know simply, “agree to disagree”.
So... His father is kind of an idiot in this movie, making it hard to understand how Clark even grows up to be a relatively nice person. His dad literally berrates him for saving a bus full of children from sinking and tells him that he might have had to consider leaving them drown. What? His death is silly, too. First, his dad is a hypocrite for risking his life to go save a dog having told Clark to let children die. Second, Clark could and should have helped, both with and without superpowers. Nobody would have questioned a well built guy running fast to save his dad, and he had quite a bit of time too. Third, Jon giving up and just accepting his death when there was no reason to not try to run away was quite a hit to his intelligence. At the very least try to crawl. Finally, for Clark to let his dad die when he could have saved him without a doubt harms the character quite a bit. The reason why his dad is normally killed by a heart attack is to make Clark understand that there are people that he simply cannot save or help, regardless of all his powers, which grounds him as a character and humanizes him. Making it a grandiouse spectacle like this that could have been easily avoided lacks any nuance and robs Superman of that quality, making Snyder's version weaker as a result. The scene is bad, as is the entire movie. I understand liking it, but there's no denying that. As for why the hate, it comes down to a few things. It shits on the character, it harms everything that comes after it since it is such a weak base, its villain is retarded, the stakes are all over the place... It's also how there's people writing stuff like "There's a lot of people who can't appreciate how good this movie actually was." when they apparently haven't watched a movie critically in their life and just smiled and noded to whatever bullshit was put on their screen while labeled everyone who criticized it as hateful and ignorant.
Man of Steel is so UNDERRATED. This is the most pwerful scene in the whole movie. I hate that we didn't get the DC Universe we should've gotten after this film. It was a spectacular way to start it all.
It's a shit scene. Why does he go into the storm when he has an invincible son? And there's nobody alive that would just let their dad die whilst having the power to save them.
I don't care what everyone say about this movie. This movie has soul and heart than any other Marvel movies I have seen so far. Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder did a great job producing this movie.
People really need to read the comics or watch the animations at least because the live action interpretations from the mcu dceu fox x men tdk trilogy are just an else world story and have nothing to do with the original characters they're just overblown with hype that most of their fans have only watched them but don't know anything outside of that
Oh please, that was such a hackneyed blatant tug at the heartstrings I can't believe anyone felt anything about it. What convenient timing on the tornados part! I'm surprised it was just a family pet he needed to save, and not a blind crippled orphaned burn victim.
Yup I did watch those movies. But sure if you say so I will lick DC because it has great stories. Marvel is lucky that Christopher Nolan is not directing DC movies if he was directing then DC would have top the box office but after the Snyder Cut everyone are gonna love DC.
why everyone said that clark can save his father using his super speed? he dont even know his true potential yet until he met his true biological father.
That rationalization insults the movie you're trying to defend. The whole point of the scene is that clark nd jonathan are making conscious moral choices not to intervene (or accept assistance). To try to handwave those choices away because you're embarrassed by them, to sweep the dilemma under the rug with the rationalization that "maybe he couldn't have saved his father anyway" is to strip the scene of its meaning. Better to just stop being a fan if the movie embarrasses you that much.
That's not the point actually. Don't know why you bring that up. Clark was already aware of his ability except for the flight and heat vision. He saved a bus when he was a teenager. The point here was like his dad said the world is still not ready for him if he save him the truth will be revealed that the kid who save a bus before is the same person who save his dad in the tornado the government would clearly intervene and Clark's life and his mother would be miserable
Even with super speed he probably still couldn’t save him. Moving that fast would kill him instantly. Only the flash can do it since he has the speed force.
One of the greatest DC films ever made. This will always be one of my favourite movies of all time. The score is hella good, action is awesome, story is deep and great. Underatted badass movie. 10/10
The action is overblown and actively harms the character of Clark by making destroy so much stuff that he could have avoided. The story is "deel and great"? How? This scene alone already does not make any darn sense. His father is kind of an idiot in this movie, making it hard to understand how Clark even grows up to be a relatively nice person. His dad literally berrates him for saving a bus full of children from sinking and tells him that he might have had to consider leaving them drown. What? His death is silly, too. @@VladDascaliuc To me, i think it was great. It shows how human superman can be. His dad didn't agree to let kids die, he said "maybe", which means he is not SURE. He causes a little destruction, but it was not all his fault it was the world engine. He couldn't help his dad during the tornado because if he did. He would reveal himself to the world, which he was not ready for at the time. I loved this movie man but if u dont then thats fine.
@@sir.chewie6089 Do you know why the usual way to kill Jonathan Kent is to have him have a heart attack or anything along those lines? It is because it shows how Clark simply cannot save everyone, no matter what powers he has. That realization is what grounds him and humanizes him, and is what inspires him to always be the best he can be. Having instead a grandious situation that he could have changed entirely robs him of that quality, proving how this version values his daily life more than the lives of inocents, making him a bit of a cunt. Though he would not have revealed himself anyway because of everything I explained to you, so he's kind of worse because he simply let his dad die for no reason, making him an alien in terms of character. As for the destruction he causes, he has no excuse. He destroyed several buildings by himself in fits of anger or simply because of carelesness and ends up getting a lot of people killed because of it. Being his first day is no reason for that. Imagine if I ran you over on my first day of driving and told you so. It's also very stupid that he goes first for the world engine that is in the middle of nowhere as opposed to taking down the one that's leveling a city as soon as possible. Finally, for his dad to answer "Maybe" to him asking if he should have let them die is straight up disgusting. You can't not be sure about that. Literal silence would be a better answer, as it at least does not half agree with letting children drown and would actually show his lack of knowledge on the situation better. Jonathan is a terrible dad. There is nothing "human" in there, other than Snyder's ego. And it's fine if you enjoyed it, but you're clearly not being critical of it to say that it's any good. It's simply not.
Yes. Try not to argue and if you do try and make up because you never know what it can lead to. Losing someone after you finish on a bad note makes you feel so guilty. It's not a good thing.
In his defense, Clark could not anticipate this was their last talk in any way and even realized his mistake almost immediately. He was about to apologize when the tornado interrupted them. But yes, Clark definitely regretted telling Jonathan those last words to him for the rest of his life.

That day we lost the Real Man Of Steel. He shook his head; then died with a loving smile on his face. That sacrifice is partly why Superman fights for humanity. No matter how many powers Superman has; that emotional trauma alone showed us how much love he had for that man. If that's Not Brave; then WTF is???
Jonathan taught Clark an important lesson on heroism: even if the life that needs saving is less valuable/important than yours, it’s still the right thing to do. Trading his life for their dog’s life and keeping Clark’s secret safe is what made him an amazing parent.
It made him a fucking dumbass parent that should have let his invincible kid just walk in there and rescue the dog. It can all be attributed to luck - hardly proves he's a fucking alien
Superman saw all the good deeds happening around him from a very young age which gave him the necessary moral values even after having such gr8 powers. His father dies saving an animal. That is where he learnt that every life is precious.👌👌👌love this scene...
I love how Kevin Costner is hated by critics but he carries on in som ofthe biggest movies ever made, personally I luv him , think the postman is probably the greatest unrealised gem in history
I honestly don’t understand how people can hate on this movie. This movie was amazing in every aspect especially with this scene. As Clark got older, he started to become a bit naive and wanted to feel like he could do more but his father pointed out that his family was farming for generations and Clark felt like it wasn’t enough and that he could do more so then he got upset. The whole purpose of the scene is to not make Clark feel guilty or feel like he could’ve done something to save his father. It was an act of trust alone and to avoid revealing your identity to preserve yourself from getting viewed by the public’s eye as a non-human being.
It's not really hard, if you're thoughtful about how people actually work and if you think about the ramifications of everyone's words and actions. If Jon can go in to rescue the dog without it looking weird, then so could Clark. All Clark had to do was pretend it wasn't very easy for him to do it, that's all. But no, Jon has to do it instead and get himself killed and leave his wife a widow and his son without a father for no good god damn reason except to make the movie dramatic. I get that this scene may seem really moving, but that only really works as long as you only think about the film the way the movie wants you to think about it. Try thinking practically for a moment and so many of the things Clark and others do in this film stop making any sense whatsoever. MCU movies can be downright ridiculous at times, but they at least make sure getting the story from points A to B to C doesn't require the viewer to turn their brain off.
@@AngryNerdBird You have earned my respect. Thank you for giving a thoughtful analysis instead of a baseless conclusion like “it’s only marvel fans who dislike MOS” or that crap people always say.
Point is that Clark would *never* let someone die to preserve his identity, and letting HIS DAD do so is even more stupid. This scene makes no sense. Clark was struggling to obey his dad orders about just letting him die, it's almost like he's a kid instead of a 20yo. This scene's just dumb.
This always hits me so hard, I know how it feels when you say something to your dad and then he well, passes. And you never get to say you love him, I love you dad.
The world was not ready for this kind of emotional and mature Superman film. Seeing where the DC universe went, now I wish we had more superhero films like this.
Bruh I can’t think of a better parent/mentor death scene in a superhero movie. The lead up, the acting, the way it was filmed, the sense of despair…just perfect. They knocked it out of the park casting Kevin Costner as Jon kent
I don't get why people do not understand this scene at all. They keep saying that Clark could've used his super speed. Others say that Clark did not know that he had super speed. But actually both the statements are wrong. You could clearly see that he was going to save his dad but his dad said no, because he wasn't ready for the world to see Clark as Kal-el. The whole movie is about the fact that people are afraid of what they don't understand. The scene where Clark and his dad just look at each other is actually them having a conversation, where his dad is telling Clark to let him die so that Clark could have more time living as a human and not as a god. The problem is that Zack Snyder is way ahead of our time, and thus people could not understand his movies, but if you watch his films closely with patience, you will understand the true meanings of his movies.
Man.... i remember watching this scene in cinema and it absolutely tore me up, this movie was such a masterpiece.. the actors, the story, the music, just everything comes together perfect
I prefer the heart attack death for Jonathan Kent. It helps reinforce for superman that he isnt a god and cant save everyone or solve everything with power and strength.
Damn. Kevin Costner is still giving it his all (even if he wasn't in this film for long) Henry also hitting big with that yell at the end was chilling.
Jonathan Kent was right. Just the follow up in BvS showed that whilst the world loved the benefits of his potential help they didn't trust him. People criticizing him for being "Stupid" and dying a stupid death have missed the point. He was willing to die to protect Clark and in turn prolong the distrust towards Clark that he knew the world would have once he was revealed. Listen to Batman's rant about Superman in BvS. The exact thing Jonathan Kent was worried about. Only when Superman "died" did the world realize they were wrong.
Alright, no. He is not trusted because he leveled an entire city when he could have easily avoided it several times, not simply because big guy strong. And no, the schemes that Lex Luthor uses in BvS to harm Superman's image are nonsensical and should never have worked. The movie just goes with it because neither the creators nor the viewers actually care about it.
I love how your response is that it was avoidable, but don't detail alternative then you just disregard something as key as the fear mongering against him but then cast it as a result of people not caring. I'll do what you just did. Alright, no. He couldn't avoid it not because the city had already been levelled by the terraforming. oops I guess I can't not explain things unlike you. I'll try again. You think the fear mongering against him is nonsensical because you don't care. Ah, there we go. Ah, dang. I did it again." I think you got lost somewhere in thinking about what I said and kind of made up what you're talking about as you went. For the record: -Jonathan Kent is wrong, as the backlash Clark gets in BvS is unrelated to what Jon thought he would get. Had Clark not being so terrible at being good, he would not have actually had much of an issue to be the nice guy we're supposed to take him as in Justice League. In fact, he is actually quite well liked and even venered by a fair amount of people by the start of BvS, so this point is just moot. -The backlash in BvS comes from 2 different places, one that kind of makes sense and the other that does not at all. The former is the criticism he gets for being such a terrible savior in Man of Steel, of which he doesn't get enough, while the latter comes from Luthor's plan to blame people's deaths on Superman dispite him having no involvement in any of them, which are very easy to prove to be that way. The Viper youre making a good point (though i dunno why u calling me a cunt :*) The discussion about the bacterias is a common one and very difficult, maybe also impossible one to probably win for someone stating that all life is equal. So the real question here should be: What kind of life does a creature have to have in order that it should be impermissible to kill it (or to harm it in certain other ways)? When does its so called 'value' drop and when does it raise? Examples for that are that you need to be able to feel pain or that a creature has to be able to have a self-recognition or that it has to have the brain like we do or that it needs to have a certain height or weight.... Getting back to the bacteria: i personally dont know how to not harm a bacteria without putting my own life on second place and through that...giving my own life less value. And also if i kill bacteria its certainly not cuz i want to (i do btw think that bacteria are quiet resistent) and doesnt change the fact that i respect all life. But i have no clue why i should give the life of a human more value... Becaue its my own species? No! Any animal and every plant has the right to live and even though i think that the circle of life and nature still is good and essential.... And now please let me happy about that dog that was safed in that damned film :D
I love this change from his father dying of a heart attack to this. This is so much more powerful in terms of his father giving up his life. Man that's fucking amazing. I love both Father's in this one. Couldn't be any better!
You do realize that the whole point of the heart attack is that his father dies in a way that Clark can do nothing about, right? You know that's the entire point of the character, that he can't save everyone by just punching, which is why he has to be better? His father dying a silly way that could be avoided in a myriad of ways saps away from anything meaningful that Superman could ever be. It means nothing, as it was done simply to be edgy. Your taste is fucking trash, mate.
@@jeebs9 Nah, your opinion is worthless. There's nothing to move on about here, you're just wrong for saying that it's in any way better. "It was amazing!" is a shallow argument.

@R R A dogs life is just as important as a human life. Both would be terrible to lose. His family was already safe at the overpass So he had a choice save the dog or leave it to die. He is a good person because he risked his life to save the dog.
@Tomáš Cerman It is as important as human life Wdym? If you don't see your pet as important then you shouldn't be their owner. A pet is apart of the family.
@Tomáš Cerman What I'm saying is a pets life isn't more valuable then a humans life, BUT that doesn't mean pets lives aren't valuable either and they deserve a chance to live just as much as humans do. He did a good thing because he risked to save the dog. Did you really expect him to just leave the dog there to die? What's wrong with you?

No I would have criticized the MCU too, this set up is ludicrous, why is there a random tornado in the middle of nowhere that wasn't forecast whatsoever nor was an early warning issued. How did they not see it coming until it was like 50 meters away. For God's sake there's literally only 1 car driving in the opposite direction before then. Hell there's no cars at all on the opposite lane. They could've just turned around. The divide is completely flat too.

U mean compared to the Christopher reeves movie

Kevin Costner is a Star and will always be...... he has the presence, the charisma .... everything....
why everyone said that clark can save his father using his super speed? he dont even know his true potential yet until he met his true biological father.
People hate what they dont understand

@@VladDascaliuc i mean it’s super juman powers what you expect?

Jonathan taught Clark an important lesson on heroism: even if the life that needs saving is less valuable/important than yours, it’s still the right thing to do. Trading his life for their dog’s life and keeping Clark’s secret safe is what made him an amazing parent.
That is a great example to Clark. Thats one of the reasons he gave up his life for human kind in bvs
It made him a fucking dumbass parent that should have let his invincible kid just walk in there and rescue the dog. It can all be attributed to luck - hardly proves he's a fucking alien
It’s a good lesson, but I think having his father around would be a bigger priority.
So he taught him a lesson by pretty much killing himself, and basically telling Clark to suppress his powers

@@AngryNerdBird You're pretty much entirely correct, except for the part about Marvel. They kind of do that for quite a bunch of their movies.

People dont understand what cinema is. They just process what they see at first
And Jonathan Kent was fuckin right. "My father believed if the world ever know what I was, they'd rjeject me". And that's exactly what we see in BvS

2:50 His father stands so still like there is no any wind!
Plot twist: he actually has superpower and just flew away.
"Alright, no. He couldn't avoid it not because the city had already been levelled by the terraforming. oops I guess I can't not explain things unlike you. I'll try again."
I think you messed up your comment gramatically somewhere in here, but in any case, he could have avoided the leveling of the city if he had just went for the machine in said city instead of the one in the middle of nowhere. And he still made Zod fly into buildings and populated areas AFTER the kryptoforming machine thing.
"You think the fear mongering against him is nonsensical because you don't care. Ah, there we go."
What? No. I don't care because what you're saying is nonsensical, and I actually explained how what is brought up in BvS about how he's a danger to the world is correct as confirmed by his actions in this movie.
"However I would point out that it's ignorant to think it's nonsensical since it's already a proven method used in real life by media platforms to direct public opinion on serious matters like economics, pandemics and wars. Ah, dang. I did it again."
I think you got lost somewhere in thinking about what I said and kind of made up what you're talking about as you went.
For the record:
-Jonathan Kent is wrong, as the backlash Clark gets in BvS is unrelated to what Jon thought he would get.

The Viper youre making a good point (though i dunno why u calling me a cunt :*)
The discussion about the bacterias is a common one and very difficult, maybe also impossible one to probably win for someone stating that all life is equal.
I cried here... honestly they put soo much emotion here that we all could learn from.
