      It is not an easy task to run one of these forge harvesters because it will fill those 22 ton wagons in three minutes and you have to keep a constant eye on the flow and helpful. The wagon is and how you fill it.

    A lot of people are commenting on the farmer not talking much! It’s hard to carry on a conversation with that much going on! Also noticed that he runs the header backwards on the end rows to clear out the small grasses,weeds and low lying weeds. I thought we were the only ones who had to do this

    Awesome video! The corn crop in my county in Pennsylvania is really poor this year. We just haven't got any measurable rain. Everytime we would get rain in the forecast it would just pass over and fall in the neighboring counties.. I always gotta laugh at the interviews. Some of the farmers really seem excited to run their machines, and others don't seem too interested or are too distracted lol. I'm sure it can be awkward sometimes.

    Would it be helpful to mention how the 9500i stacks up against similar models from other brands or earlier versions of John Deere's forage harvesters?
    Thanks

  • @jti2007
    @jti2007 Місяць тому

    A custom harvester locally has the 9900i cutter. He cuts about 250 tons per hour in heavy corn silage. He has 4-22’ long silage trucks holding 17 tons that he uses to haul away the feed. On a one mile haul from the field to the pit the trucks have to be on their game to get back before the last truck is full.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Місяць тому

      The 9900i is an impressive chopper. This farm uses two 9500i choppers. Each tractor has 5 wagons keeping it going. Here is a video of the same farm in 2017 with all of the wagons in action at ua-cam.com/video/G37E8nnEyyA/v-deo.htmlsi=xf-_r2FSfLuvtbpx

    The cost of that machine, plus the options is pretty eye watering.
    Need to be doing some big acreage to justify it.
    I do wonder sometimes, how it is, that farmers can actually turn a profit, particularly these days - the margins gotta be pretty tight !

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Місяць тому +1

      These are industrial machines at a big investment. Just the header costs more than an entire forage harvester and head 40 years. Yet 40 years the same machine at 225 hp would harvest 4 rows at 1.5 mph. Now they can harvest 8 at 4 mph. The harvest window is tight and putting up quality feed as fast as possible is important.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Місяць тому +1

      He is very nice. Running a Ford harvester takes a lot of concentration because these 22 ton wagons fill up in three minutes and you have to pay attention how you’re loading the wagon from back to front and topping it off. I appreciate him letting me ride along to ask questions because it is a distraction.

  • @matthewtaliaferro
    @matthewtaliaferro Місяць тому

    I wasn’t really impressed with the farmers point of view. He didn’t really do a good job of explaining on video

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  Місяць тому +2

      When you’re chopping, it takes three minutes or less to fill one of those 22 ton wagons and as he mentioned, he is not using auto fill. He is hand controlling it so he hast to keep a constant eye on where the pile is in the wagon and where he is as far as the header cutting the corn. Having someone talk to you is a little distracting so I really appreciated his time and letting me do the ride along and talk a little bit about the work that was being done.
