Kate Bush is a one-of-kind talent that doesn't come around very often.
"Get outta here with all this image nonsense..." spoken by a KISS fan. Haha!! That's hilarious!!
The subtleties of the originators versus the umpteenth band doing it for the umpteenth time, 35 years later, can sometimes be lost on the youth.
The Donald Ver well said Mr President!!
@@BRO77TX You're a great American.
Kate Bush isn't a guilty pleasure, she is awesome, pure genius.
...and he mentioned Alison Krause, too. She's a total bad ass on vocals & violin. Hell, IIRC, she was mentioned as "Talent Deserving Wider Recognition' in Downbeat (a Jazz mag).
Imho she's the definition of cool... To each his own I guess...
Love my rock and metal to death but she is absolutely in a different league altogether artistically, I rather feel more guilty about most of my beloved bands from those styles.
I totally agree with Michael Walters.
Agreed!
One of my guilty pleasures is The Carpenters. Karen Carpenterβs voice is amazing. So dreamy
Not guilty!
I Love The Carpenters also, Karen was an amazing singer
The best female voice ever.
Definitely! Karen's voice and Richard's arrangements - I've got the whole collection! :)
Not guilty at all! XD they are awesome
The Commodores. They always sound great.
They are an amazing band
@@marcosg.garcia319 Early Commodores were funky as Hell & they Rock'd!
And Lionel Ritchie solo great music ,good call
I grew up on the diet of Heep, Purple, Yes, ELP - all the Prog/Rock/Metal bands of the 1970's and had very little time for anything else.
I got married in 1981 and in 1985 the whole thing fell apart. I spent a lot of time trying to make sense of it. Then I heard one song that suddenly gave me the kick up the backside I needed. That song was so far out of my comfort zone but it spoke to me. I no longer pretended that we would get back together, I moved to a new town on a job transfer, made a whole bunch of new friends and since then I have never let music genre limit me.
That song was/is "Carpenters - Hurting Each Other".
It changed my life and also opened a world of music I had denied before. A lot of those you guys mention - Earth Wind And Fire, Kate Bush, ABBA, the brilliant Alison Moyet, Frank Sinatra.
But to pick one - Roy Orbison, especially the In Dreams album.
Roy Orbison might be the most underrated artist in the history of music. His voice was otherworldly and he was one of the most innovative songwriters in rock 'n roll.
alison moyet is amazing....
Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who, and The Carpenters - Those were my favorites when I was a teen in the mid-1970's. Karen Carpenter was amazing !!
Great post Terry. I guess it's about emotional maturity and it takes most of us a long while to really find our identity. It's a lifetime journey. The Carpenters and Roy Orbison recorded some of the greatest music of all time. It's a revelation when we 'discover' these artists for ourselves. Glad it all worked out for you.
@@PhilBaird1 Thanks. The real lesson for me was it is important not be musically snobbish, which I was.
I was a second truck driver on the βfirst aid kitβ european tour a couple of years ago. I met the girls very briefly, they seemed really nice. They had a really nice crew....good times.
Request: with Halloween coming up, Iβd like to see the guys pick the scariest albums they know, and a second rant of the unscariest albums they know, by which I mean bands that tried to be badass and edgy but failed.
99% of black/death metal.
Edit: In the unscary category I mean. That shit is unbelievably cheesy and they take themselves so damn seriously!
@@Nick-qf7vt LMAO! (I caught that the first time around, btw.)
unscary
Mark slaughter up all night sleep all day ooohh..
everything from GWAR!!
I have a song in mind...
Atomic Rooster-Death Walks Behind You
@@Nick-qf7vt They don't scare me either
Seals and Crofts Summer Breeze. Total summer song guilty pleasure!
The Isley Brothers cover is great too.
I'm a big fan of Tori Amos. She's got a beautiful voice and is a wonderful songwriter/pianist. I am also a big fan of the non hard rock acts Wilco and Beck and of course I would never turn down an invitation to attend a concert by The Cure.
I hear ya mate. I once saw Tori in Vicar Street in Dublin, and she started playing the intro's to classic rock songs. When she did 'Wild Horses' I shouted out "Sticky Fingers". She stopped and said "Honey, you have no idea!" hahaha
@Dr. Francia It's darker than the original!
@Dr. Francia I think I might have a listen before bed. But, I'm blaming you and Tori if I have nightmares ;-)
She was not someone I could "get" for a while, but now? She is soooo freakin' good.
Love Wilco!
Love these βroundtableβ discussions! Great topics and I hope these continue to be regular installments on your channel.
Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.....gonna go hide in my closet nowπ€π€
Have the vinyl
That is a great album! Still love it!
Great Album, Bad Movie!
Night fever, night fever
We know how to do it
Gimme that night fever, night fever
We know how to show it
The Bee Gees Greatest Hits.
This wasnβt a music episode as much as a therapy session. π
I love the rant series with these guys, really entertaining
The Madonna stuff, from her first several albums, was classic well written pop music, with of course, her amazing voice. I remember when I first heard "Live To Tell" when I was a small kid, and I still think it's one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Since you love the song " Live To Tell" can you please tell me just what the song means ? It makes no sense to me.
ABBA, hands down. They were freaks of nature when it came to talent...
I think their last album was so good that it was such a shame they ended there.
no shame there they are amazing
@@quaid667 Well the very last album released a couple of months ago in early 2022 was a pleasant surprize. and it's very good too.
@@phillipanderson7398 I know. Its very emotional too. My grandparents loved ABBA and made me a cassette tape with Super Trouper on one side and Voulez Vous on the other which I played a lot. They are no longer around but I listen to Voyage and I keep thinking of them and it hits me emotionally. Like everyone else. That's how loved ABBA are. In fact my whole family loved them.
First Aid Kit are worth looking into...they seem to be making music from an honest place, ..rare these days.
I liked this. How about part 2?
Another great show, guys. I wouldn't mind a Part 2 or Part 3.
Neil Diamond is a guilty pleasure for me. My best friend in high school played Hot August Night all the damn time and at the time I hated it cuz I was into rock and metalβ¦ but over the weeks and monthsβ¦I grew to understand just how amazing Neil is as a songwriter. All good stuff!
I really enjoy watching this cast, Chris, Nick, Ryan and Pete. Good show as always!
As a life long hard rock / metal head I've liked all of Prince's stuff up through purple Rain. (4-5 albums). In high school (early 80s) my black light posters were Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin, ACDC. Then non black light posters were Iron Maiden, Van Halen and Prince. I've recently saw a video called "Fallen brother" by Kreator and they paid homage to many heavy musicians who passed up through 2017 and Prince was one. I knew then I wasn't alone.
Bette Davis Eyes- Kim Carnes
Ride Like the Wind- Christopher Cross
Captain of Her Heart- Double....to name a few
Love Bette Davis Eyes. Great song..
Duran Duran, Marc Almond (metal head here)
Rich Johnson / Ride like the wind = tremendous! Great π choice !!
those are guilty pleasures to me those are just great '80s songs I still listen to LOL throwing sailing too from Christopher Cross and Kim carnes fantastic Smokey and Robinson cover of more love.
That Kim Carnes failed follow up hit to Bette Davis Eyes,Voyeur was a cool song.
Pat Benatarβs first 4 albums were good, also Heart was good and then the first 4 Devo albums were awesome and the first few Gary Numan albums were pretty good as well and of course Kraftwerk was awesome.
My guilt pleasures - ABBA
I love the new Unleash the Archer if you love metal/prog with a great female vocalist.
ABBA is pure pop genius! Every album has its own flavour, great songwriting with killer vocals.
Unleash the Archer are incredible! They new album is a candidate for my album of the year.
Iβm a big hard rock and metal head but I got a soft spot for anything Huey Lewis
HUEY RULESπ€π
Sports is a classic.
So do I. I also love how Huey never misses a chance to remember and praise Phil Lynott
He is the heart of rock and roll, so why not? :) Seriously though, anything I grew up with, I didn't stop liking when I got into metal. I still have a soft spot for them. The first albums I ever bought were Bryan Adams (self titled) and John Cougar Mellencamp- I think it was called Scarecrow. As I've gotten older I've widened my interests even more.
@@jimmym3352 right on brother ππ€
Fantastic show!
Please do a part 2!!!
Suzi Quatro, Kate Bush, Abba, and Barry Manilow. There! I've said it. It's out now. I LOVE those artists and I probably will after nearly 40 years of listening to them since I was a child. There's a couple others I that might fall into "Guilty Pleasures" lists, but 80s Phil Collins, Mike Oldfield, Bee Gees (can't explain it, but Bee Gees are still as they were in the 70s for me). And the one I probably get the most shit for is Neil Diamond's, "Heartlight".
Barry Manilow..."Oh, Mandy.."
Kate Bush is anything but 'guilty pleasure'. Guilty pleasures would be Sheb Wooley, Archies, Stacey Q, Samantha Fox, New Kids on the Block, Pussycat Dolls, Beyonce etc... and Barry M qualifies.
Kate Bush is not even a guilty pleasure, dude...... her stuff is artsy AF..... and Mike Oldfield is basically a prog artist, so he's not either
I like most genres of music, so I don't really have any guilty pleasure albums, although I do have guilty pleasure songs. I do have a couple of albums that I own, that aren't exactly something I tell people about. Here they are:
Taio Cruz - Rokstarr
Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time
Nine Inch Nails - Broken EP (I generally hate this band, but I love this EP because it's heavy.)
Wham! - Make It Big
Miranda Cosgrove - Sparks Fly
Kelly Clarkson - Greatest Hits, Chapter 1
Jennifer Lopez - On the 6
My taste is all over the place and weird anyway. I'm a metalhead, first and foremost, but I also love Pop, Jazz, Blues, Classical, R&B/Soul, Funk, Folk, New Age, Alternative, Avant Garde, Pop-Rock, I even like early 1900's Ragtime music! So, my collection is bizarre. One minute it's Britney Spears, than not too long after it's Cannibal Corpse! I'm just a music junkie. I'm not super picky.
My guilty pleasure is Huey Lewis & the News. It's cheesy as hell, but I like the un-selfconscious joy in it.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in 83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.
Those guys can rock hard on stage!!!!
@@pvdguitars2951 I saw them once back in the early 1990s and they were great.
@@tonygunk8157 NICE QUOTE, LOL!!π€π
HUEY RULES!!
Priceless show thanks guys.
This was fun! I wanna see this again.
the Bee Gees Main Course...'Fanny be Tender with my Love' turns me to mush
My fav song by the brothers Gibb
Excellent song and good choice! It is a favorite of mine along with Love So Right.
Was Barry singing that to Robin?
the Bee Gees is a bonafide GP...I dig em to....especially the pre disco stuff....but even Alice Cooper said that the Sat Nt Fever album is pretty darn good....Shhhh
Brought MAIN COURSE along on a road trip with 3 other friends. They all laughed when I put it into the CD player but by the first chorus, everyone was singing along! That went on for the whole disk. Pure "guilty pleasure".
Iβd say Duran Duran (classic lineup). I always thought their tunes were amazingly catchy, well produced, plus they were good players.
Another guilty pleasure of mine is mid 70βs Elvis Presley. Songs like βKentucky Rainβ, βWay Downβ, etc.
Deja Voodoo They were pretty great. I remember βGirls on Filmβ was considered pretty racy at the time so they had an βadultβ version and an MTV version.
Duran Duran is great. I even have a few of their more recent albums.
I have the first 2 Elvis albums, but after that it was mostly soundtracks it seems.
All new heights with the Hudson Valley Squares! You've definitely tapped into the chemistry as far as what makes panel discussions great! Thank you one and all for participating and can't wait to see your next post. Cheers!
Side note - I absolutely loved Andy Gibb. His first album is pop perfection. Enchanting vocals, good grooves. I couldn't agree more, Pete.
Please do a part 2. Great video!!!
This was so entertaining! I like most bands that were discussed. No shame guys. Fun show
ABBA's "The Singles" double vinyl. Come at me.
Great album, terrible cover. Poor Frida, her dress looks like something they made of an old parachute, and they stuck a christmas decoration to cover up her cleavage.
lemmy rated abba ,so ur off the hook lol
Scott Ian said he secretly likes ABBA
@@pablocruise9514 no way!!!! cool lol - 2 godfathers of heavy, digging abba
@@Rr0gu3_5uture cant disagree with any of that, winner takes it all etc, are amazing songs, they never could get past their disco euro cheese image, which is a shame , does your mother know is a great pop rock tune
I love this! What I take from this is that real people arenβt cardboard caricatures- weβre capable of the unexpected. And I love the confidence that is apparent in how you talk about these artists.
This was a great watch! Guilty pleasures are the best!
First Aid Kit are great!
Visually they remind me of the women in ABBA + HEART. I ve got 2 of their CD s.
When I first heard "Emmylou" when it first came out they had me hooked instantly. Normally I don't care for that type of music but I love the way they harmonize. I recommended them to a friend a few years ago and she is now a big fan of them. Had to spread the word. π
Kate bush yes hounds of love is awesome. Best female artist ever.
Wuthering Heights still gives me goosebumps when I hear it! She is great!!
I kind of liked her early stuff but later stuff just impossible to listen to. Just pretentious nonsense IMO. Each to their own thoughπ
colin rogers that's so true!
Especially Side2 "The Ninth Wave"... unbelievable! Under The Ice, Waking The Witch, Hello Earth. Just amazing!
The Dreaming is a classic album also. And like side 2 of Hounds of Love, side 2 of the Dreaming is also the masterpiece side of the album.
About to watch now! This should be fun!
It was a real hoot to see how diverse an appreciation of music you guys have. I shared a fondness with most of the offerings. Pete, there's no reason for you to be embarrassed by your 3 picks (though admittedly I did blush for you). Great fun!
Guilty pleasure: The late great Lesley Gore. Yeah, the '60s pop star. She was an unapologetic metal head. Met her at a Dio concert. She absolutely loved Ronnie.
Duran Duran and the rest of the New Romantics (OMD, Japan, ABC, The Human League, etc.).
I love Duran Duran, no shame in that. Great live band also. π
yes sir;Ultravox,Visage,Adam And The Ants
Excellent Vid. Please Do More!!!
Fantastic show again guys really enjoying the Hudson Valley squares. I save these for Thursday night's and the kick off my weekend in style :).
I have a list of guilty pleasures will do a top 10
1. Bee Gees
2. Bay City Rollers
3. The Monkees
4. Spice Girls (I was crazy about these when I was 10 years old at their height)
5. UB40
6. Limp Bizkit (Yes I Know)
7. Lionel Richie
8. David Essex
9. Abba
10. Cher (With Pete on this one she is awesome and married an Allman Brother too!)
Honourable Mention - Shania Twain
Suggestions for Monsters Den: Have you thought about doing your top Horror Films Pete?? Would love to see that show :)
Thanks again awesome show...onto the next one...

Hey Chris Alo, no shame brother!!!! Kelly Clarkson is an amazing singer. Her second album, Breakaway, is phenomenal. More hooks than a deep sea fisherman. You guys definitely need to do a Part 2 of Skeletons in the Closet.
Any by Hall and Oats....hands down Daryl is best white R&B singer
He sometimes reminds me of Todd Rundgren, I find their vocal style and voice somewhat similar.
One of my favorite Christmas songs is their version of Jingle Bell Rock
@@felinefanII Me too. I believe Todd even produced one of their albums.
Love the Darryls House show too, great live music collabs
@@kitoyobeni1 such a good show!!
Sherbet is a band I've really gotten into recently. They were an Australian band from the 70s who later turned into the Sherbs in the 80s, which I remember them from songs like No Turning Back, I'm Alive and We Ride Tonight.
That was fun...need some more.
Here's three from me.
1. Seal -- Loved those first two albums of his from the early to mid 90s. Always reminds me of Warren Miller ski movies.
2. America -- my go-to for kind of cheesy 70s soft rock (Horse With No Name, Ventura Highway, etc)
3. Mary J. Blige -- queen of hip-hop soul (I think Pete and the Hudson Valley Squares just threw up in their mouths with this one ;-P )
Love America. I especially like the albums with the original trio.
Love horse with no name
Carpenters: Now and then
Faith Hill: Faith (this kiss)
Sailor: self titled
I just love these videos and all you guys are awesome. Keep on rockingΒ΄
Great show. Itβs nice to know Iβm not the only one with a skeleton in my closet, and also goes to show that those of us who enjoy heavy music can also appreciate other artists in other genres. For me, one of my guilty pleasures is the album βHappinessβ by Hurts.
Tears for Fears! Songs from the Big Chair is awesome.
I have a cassette 35 years!
All their stuff is great. The production (if that's your thing) is off the charts. Jellyfish would be another example.
@@jazzpunk Oooo not heard any Jellyfish. Gonna check 'em out now.
Nothing guilty about that.
@@trickofthetrail Fantastic 80s power pop.

More of this please!π
Guilty pleasures show was fun !
Hope we do it again !
One of your best yet with the Hudson Valley crew. I definitely didn't expect anyone to pull out the Lady Gaga. Certainly wouldn't mind seeing a Part 2 of this with you guys.
For me, it's Depeche Mode. Black Celebration to Songs of Faith and Devotion was their finest period.
Great albums for sure
Love their time with Alan Wilder. That great run of albums they had is as good of a run as any.
One of the few non-metal albums I liked in high school was Some Great Reward. Such a fantastic record.
The albums before those were too... Casio keyboard, if you understand me. Just all keyboards. And the stuff afterwards was too dance oriented.
Depeche Mode....once they progressed out of their speak and spell keyboards and became an arena rock act...they were the shit....
Iβve listen to a lot more variety as I get older. Good show. Thanks
Do a part 2 ! Its too good !
First aid kit are incredible! They shouldn't be anyone's skeleton. Nick is spot on: 'Emylou' is a gorgeous song, Stay Gold as well.
Amazing duo...
1st Partridge Family album for me. I always wanted a band to cover that album and rock it out.
Great episode. Listened to First Aid Kit and The Birthday Massacre and I think they will be added to my guilty pleasures too. Chris Alo is a legend.
Very enjoyable..Love Sea of Tranquility
Fuel's song Shimmer. Tonic's If You Could Only See. Savage Garden's I Want You. I could name a whole bunch of those late 90s ones.
THE POSTHUMOUS CRANBERRIES ALBUM IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION IT WILL MAKE YOU CRY ITS LIKE LISTENING TO THE CArpenters now for me ... the album starts off with "its all over now" and only gets better and better it will leave you stunned and heartbroken
Excellent show guys! I like a wide range of genres of music and have for 50+ years but my recent pleasures have been the band Foxes and Fossils, that showed up in a UA-cam feed almost two years ago with their version of Suite Judy Blue Eyes. Outstanding and started me down their rabbit hole of 60 plus videos from the past ten years.
Thank you guys for your RANT- Skeletons In The Closet.... Guilty Pleasures Show.π€πΈπ΅π₯
100% agree with the statement about my non-metal friends being surprised when I like non-metal music. Happens to me all the time.
I love Brian Adams, Paul Young and Duran Duran.
You guys just have to do anyone of these. Great stuff.
This was a great video! I am also mainly a hard rock and metal fan but I do have soft rock, folky stuff and even some pop in my collection.
Most entertaining episode ever!
Frankie Valli, Kate Bush, Nick Drake
not guilty by reason of good taste
I remember an automobile-commercial on television a couple a years back. It featured a song that I thought was just great. Never had the chance to figure out who it was from. Now, because of you guys in this episode, I immediately checked out First Aid Kit here on UA-cam. And really, the very first song by them that I played, My Silver Lining... boom, there was the song. Outstanding! Will definately go and listen to more of them.
Some interesting picks there, thanks very much.
jim croces greatest hits
just fantastic songs and steller playing by jims side man maury mulhiesen
Hell of a team, those two. You should check out the video "Have You Seen Jim Croce... Live?" if you haven't already. A collection of television appearances from back in the 70s that is pure gold. One of my favorite Croce tunes is Next Time, This Time. Very poignant.
I will definitely give it up for Kate Bush. I own everything she's ever done. Also, love the first 3 Pretenders albums. I think that they rock.
I like watching you guys. More shows like this.
Chris is 'The Kid From Brooklyn' of SOT. Great show guys; really enjoyed all your choices. There are plenty more for another show.
Chris DeBurgh, Don't Pay The Ferryman. Such a good song.
@T Orrent I actually don't like anything else from him, just that song. Although the Lionheart version absolutely smokes the original lol.
You like what you like - no problems at all. For me it is the Mamas and the Papas even knowing the story, the voices are magical.
My biggest guilty pleasure song is the song "Get Up" by Korn, from their dubstep collab album "Path of Totality". Never understood dubstep, but always found that song catchy. Limp Bizkit and Insane Clown Posse are also names that I bring up in these discussions.
Really enjoyed this episode could we have some more parts please Pete?
Under Wraps by Jethro Tull.
Union by Yes.
Even the bands themselves hate these albums, but I kind of like them. Poor of me.
Union is probably my favourite YES album π
Under Wraps is awesome! Sure, it's the furthest removed from the organic Tull we love, but the musicianship and arrangements are tight, and the songs are super-catchy. But, this is coming from someone who loves Kraftwerk, Thomas Dolby, and early-'80s Zappa (including the later Synclavier experiments), so it didn't strike me too funny when I first heard it. Can't say if Ian Anderson was listening to any of these artists, but there are some similarities here and there.
At different points, I heard that both Martin Barre and Ian Anderson thought highly of the album. Don't know what they think as of current.
guilty as charged....Under Wraps was an abomination too Tull fans as was Union...However the Union Tour was phenomenal....
A friend of mine and I did a satirical album review for Yes's Union album years ago. Send me an email (dllazarus [at] cavtel dot net) if you are interested in reading it.
I hated Under Wraps. I enjoy listening to it now. I saw Yes 4 times during the Union tour.
Absolute consensus about how great Lady Gaga and Kate Bush are. I couldnβt agree more. How about some Sarah Brightman? Sheβs fantastic too. But also some of the eighties Divaβs : Kim Wilde, Nena, Nina Hagen. Iβm not ashamed too admit I like that stuff. Definitely more enjoyable than Bon Jovi or your average Nu-metal band!
Hey! I really liked this video, I found a lot of similarity in guilty pleasures. The good stuff is worth having it in our collections, regardless of the musical genre. Good choices!
Great choices and a great show as always!
Remember those early Behind the Music shows on VH-1 before they became an infomercial for a band's next album? Well, early on they were actually very good documentaries that really focused on the band or artist. One of the first episodes was on Andy Gibb (probably around 1998) and it really turned me on to his music. A few days later, I bought that Andy Gibb's Greatest Hits CD that Pete was holding up. And I still love it.
C'mon guys... this is cheating. "No Need To Argue", "Parallel Lines", "Hounds Of Love/The Ninth Wave". These are not "guilty pleasures"... these are TOTAL MASTERPIECES!!!
I agree 100%
I've a similar t shirt story. Back a few yrs ago I was going to see the eagles in dublin. I had a megadeth rust in peace shirt on. I didn't know that mettallica were playing dublin the same night. As myself and my brother were walking towards the eagles show we were meeting droves of mettallica fans walking in the opposite direction all heading to mettallica. I must have got stopped about 10 times by guys saying hey ure going the wrong way the mettallica gig is this way. True story.
π€£
Great idea, and very revealing. These guys are straight up music fans.
As a 56 yr old who's always been a classic rocker with an emphasis on metal and hard rock, I've always liked a lot of '70s pop (a bit of '80s pop too) as well as lots of '70 soul and R&B. I also worked in the dance club industry in the late '90s and early 2000s and was surprised when I found myself liking some techno. Also, I got dragged to a Shakira concert and absolutely loved it. Much more rock-oriented than I was expecting. I would definitely see her again.
Love all of Nickβs choices. That Cranberryβs album is killer!!!
I love the Pat Boone "In A Metal Mood" album, it's as daft as it is amazing.
Fun and intriguing episode.
Thx for sharing guys. Truly enjoy when the four of you are on. Always dug Duran Duran, Rick Springfield, Alan Jackson and the Bay City Rollers. Not afraid to admit and too old to care. LOL.
