    In the full-length video he made a great point about not needing to buy a case. Dumpster diving might not be an option everywhere, but Goodwill and recycling centers (even Staples) sometimes have old cases. Hell, I have seven serviceable cases in my house right now.

    • @yeetus59
      @yeetus59 Рік тому +109

      Sure that's an "option". But most people would rather not build their PC in some dusty ass, beat up HP/Dell pre-build case from the early 2010s. That's usually the only kind of cases you're going to find. These are not great to build a PC in. No airflow. Id much rather spend $40-$50 on a modular case.

    • @aggressivelyamicable5987
      @aggressivelyamicable5987 Рік тому +269

      @@yeetus59 You have to consider things in the context of the video. If you can ONLY spend $500 on a PC (which is the going price for a lot of mid-tier laptops) then it's safe to assume every penny counts. Cutting some holes into an older (free) case will be the better option in the short term then if you're financially flexible in the future you can upgrade to a newer case.

      @@yeetus59 airflow is only a necessity when you're thinking of making a powerful pc. Of course, for you those 50 bucks may not be a big sacrifice, so you can go for it without a worry, but for someone in a third world country could be a big difference that could've been used for a better hardware somewhere else, or even an impossibility. Or maybe just someone who can't afford it. Besides, you won't get any extra performance at all with just an i3 and a rx 6600

      If you upgrade it into 16GB, you are going overboard and then the build might become $600 later. Keeping the mentality "hey it's only $10 more for the ram, let go over budget" but you might do the same with the RX 6600 and get the 6650xt for "$30" more. Then, you get the 13400f cause it's "$40" more.
      The video wasn't about "build once, use till it can't", it's about "hey, I have $500, let me build the foundation for the PC, allowing easy upgrades when I have more money"

Having 16Gb will not only make your system be more usable day to day but will actually allow you to run games that use more then 4GB of ram which most modern games the past 5+ years do. Will it greatly increase your FPS? No but it sure as hell will reduce the stuttering 10 fold.

    When on a budget. 2nd hand old gen high end cards are the way to go.

    Spending the extra 10 on the cpu was a good choice because 13th gen is the only architecture that supports ddr4 AND ddr5. Gives you room to upgrade

    as someone who had a tiny desktop as cheap as I could go, don't get a small form factor tower unless you literally never plan to upgrade. upgrades can be more expensive to find parts for sff pcs, not to mention the size constraint literally just means some parts are impossible to fit. I just recently bought all the parts for a brand new gaming PC because I can no longer upgrade the one I have and it still sucks.

    My first PC had a $40 case, and even now it's hard for me to justify spending over $100 on a case. There are so many options nowadays.

    Screw the case, save on cooling: Mount all your components to a wooden board with some long screws and thick spacers (for airflow).
    Downside: Components will collect dust faster
    Upside: It's easier to clean
    Downside: Won't have the case with RGB looks
    Upside: Will still look cool, people will definitely ask about it
    Also, easier to upgrade and swap components.

    imo the good alternative is shelling out 50-100 bucks for a decent old pc that can fit an matx motherboard, and keeping the psu if you're on a budget, you can sell the extra parts (i.e. hard drive/cpu/mobo/maybe psu depending on what it is) for like 30 bucks and net you a $20 case.

    you need a bios update with the 12100f too in most cases.. they werent in the first line of 12th cpu series so they were added in bios updates later..
