6 kids? That's the problem. I can get by by myself very comfortably in LA with a minimum waged job. The problem is people keep marrying and popping out little ones without having a sound plan to pay for everything. Don't have kids if you can't even take care of yourself first!!!

Anyone with any "Intelligence" would know that the "Cost of Living" in the United States, is "Extremely, Higher" than the "Minimum to Average Wage". The average "1 Bedroom Apartment" in Los Angeles, Metropolitan Area is between $1,800-$2,500 per month. Food prices, Utilities, Health Insurance, and Gasoline costs have "Astronomically" increased. Unless, an employee working in a "Fast Food, Restuarant"is seeking to become a "Manager", it is better to seek "Higher Education" and achieve a "Higher" paying job. In my opinion.

I used to work fast food as my first "real job." 1 1/2 years at a Taco Bell. These jobs are almost in all instances stepping stones. While I don't want to criticize these individuals at this meeting, unless their goal is area manager or higher, fast food will never provide a good wage. It's also a young person's job. If you're in your teens or twenties, you can tolerate all the standing and constant work in the kitchen, in earning some extra spending money. One thing that doesn't change is time moves on. Do things that can improve your life, whether it's more education or at least learning what successful upper-level managers in fast food do. Learn those skills. The thing is, do you still want to be working the fast food window in your 40s, 50s and 60s? Even if for some reason you do, your body may give out before then working like crazy at a fast food restaurant. There's nothing wrong with these jobs, but there comes a time to move on. That's my two-cents.

100%. However, what happens when you grow up in an underdeveloped neighbourhood where opportunities are limited? Where you come from an unstable household and have little direction in navigating your years after becoming a teenager. These people certainly don't LIKE to do these jobs, but there are no other opportunities for them. Chances are they've grown up without the necessary skills and background to break the socioeconomic barriers. Of course, I'm not saying these jobs should be paid 100k, but the minimum wage should reflect a LIVING wage, the bare minimum.

@@nickrod7627 Agree. I was in a rut at one point in my life, but got out of it. One thing I noticed in this video is working fast food isn't doing any favors to many of these workers' health. Many look very overweight. When I worked fast food the food was basically free to employees on duty. It's either that or the employees here get a large discount. There's nothing wrong with treating yourself to a burger or taco, but living the fast food dining at work lifestyle is creating obesity because food is expensive elsewhere. :/

I would hope that they would choose to invest in themselves but in the meantime, it is very tough to make ends meet during that transition.

Poverty wages, living wages, unhoused. They make all new terms to change the narrative. 1) You're getting paid at least minimum wage and you still cannot get by? Start with some introspection on their own finances. Maybe you shouldn't have 3-5 kids all wanting 900 dollar iphones and playstations. If the best job you could get is in fast food, maybe you shouldn't be having children at all. These jobs weren't meant to support a family. They were meant for part time jobs for high school and college kids. If you've been there for years, you should have become a supervisor who obviously get paid way better. 2) You agreed to these wages when you took the job. If you don't like it, it's YOUR prerogative to gain other skills and find a better job. Were they forced into these jobs? No. So if it's the best you could do, it's YOUR job to do better and maybe even move out of the sh!thole cities to find better employment. 3) If you work fast food, places like McDonalds get one free meal during their shift and can take two items home. And you're still on government assistance? Because you have tons of children on EBT? 4) This is the reason why companies are pushing for automation. These fast food workers will be replaced in the next 5-10 years. We're already seeing kiosks put in. Obviously the machines need to be refined and there should be food lockers with codes only the payer gets much like Little Caesars. They have pizza vending machines and robots flipping burgers. The technology is already here. It just needs testing and implementation then these fast food places could be run by one person feeding the machines ingredients a few times a day. 5) Just like the cashiers that unionized and went on strike in the 2000's, now they have mostly been replaced by self checkout.
