That's the perfect way to create a safe, stable pocket dimension -- and the perfect reason for the lore to have changed from having Dorn's amber-encased body on the Phalanx to just his hand. (He doesn't want that hand back, obviously.) That said, Valdor is definitely involved -- and so is Russ, even if Russ tried to have his sons help rid him of his spear.

I thought a book (Pariah?) pretty much came out and said Valdor is the king in yellow. Basically, they found the book about the king (book was named the king in yellow, IIRC) and it was filled with names and nothing else- the names of Constantin Valdor
I somewhat remember an interview with Dan. Where he talked about the emperor and his relationship to the golden throne. He said that it's possible the emperor expends enough energy on a daily basis to wither his body. But that he regenerates his body each day, in time to do the process again. The golden thrown is not really a life support system. Even though that's how it's presented. Dan said a number of interesting things in that interview.
I've heard the golden throne might be a big bomb strong enough to blow terra/potentially send a sort of nuke into the warp too and kill the emperor so he can be reborn. interesting possibilites I think
@@Max-zr7hr Why do you think Vulkan made that seal in the first place?????.... I was going to have a plan B, C and D in this era. That’s what I would have done...
@Max yes if the emperors psychic will fails and chaos is allowed to pour through the hold in the web way Magnus created then a series of pre programmed bombs will detonate destroying the entire planet
I honestly think we are going to get a big drop two years from now of one or even two loyalists dropping back in. Considering they are outnumbered now and Angron is heavily rumoured to be coming back this coming summer
They have mentioned a lot of people, would say the Lion is easiest to intoduce again but I bet that GW will just ask the sales department; "money, money, in our shares. Who will earn us the most profit, this next year?"
He's actually Alpharius, replaced him after convincing Dorn he had killed Alpharius. He is now placed inside Chaos and the highlords after Omegan hypno-blocked the plan.
I’ve always wondered why the emperor is so adamant about being kept just barely alive when they could let him die and he would be reborn anew, maybe his closest allies are keeping him at his weakest for the powers of chaos?
I've heard some ideas that while he would likely be reborn, it could take so long the imperium collapses without him. As the warp demons would flood into terra without him keeping them out. I guess thinking for example he dies> his soul leaves body> floats around in warp > warp time dilation makes it take like ten thousand terran years>everyone dies before he gets back. But I think that is the "break in case of emergency option" with Vulcan having the key to the golden throne that makes it self destruct potentially. With big e telling him to basically pull the plug if shit really hits the fan. All speculation though!
The astronomicon would fail and chaos would have a direct road straight to Terra. You would need at lest 3 Primarchs to keep the Imperium from falling apart after his death. The Lion, The Wolf and Dorn could do it.
I have a few theories. 1 Maybe Constantin Valdor and the King In Yellow share a name with the former earning the name upon besting the latter. 2 Maybe a duality of character is at play with the King In Yellow being a manifestation of something suppressed within Valdor himself resulting in a split petsonality. 3 Maybe, Valdor and the King In Yellow have become to the Emperor and the Custodes a more pronounced version of what The Sanguinor and Mephiston are to Sanguinius and the Blood Angels.
Could Sanguinius's writings about the golden figure who stands in the throne room defending the Emperor from the darkness be Valdor? I don't, but it would be an interesting story to read. The Captain General who let the Emperor be mortaly wounded returning home to uphold his oath against the encroaching darkness and defend is master once more. That would be a thrill.
So I'm just gonna throw this out there, as much as I love it to be Valdor there is another that wore Yellow as their primary color in battle and who has so far disappeared except for a fragment of them. Could the King in Yellow be Rogal Dorn, wandering the warp and slaying chaos where it lies trying to return to his chapter and the Imperium?
What I would love to see is an old russ a wise old odin. arive on the rock and go wake his brother up with a change of pradime with russ wise and lion rampant lol would make a great story
If it's not Valdor then who? Whoever it is has resulted in the Aeldari perceiving their actions to be enough of a threat that they are sending the forces of multiple craftworlds to destroy an Imperial planet which is a pretty extreme reaction. Personally I think the idea that it's Valdor continuing the Emperor's plan to bypass the warp (or what he thinks is the plan) makes a lot of sense. The "King in Yellow" has built a pocket dimension in the City of Dust with hidden entrances and that sounds an awful lot like an effort to rebuild the Imperial Webway to me. Out of anyone Valdor is one of the few people who may have access to the sort of resources (blood angel geneseed) and secret technology (clones of psykers) required for such an effort. I just can't think who else in the lore could achieve what the KIY has achieved. Abnett has said these books are setting up something really significant that he was surprised GW allowed him to do so I don't think it's going to be an inconsequential third book.
It seems to me. The Lion would be the best primarch to come back next. His ability to wage prolonged campaigns. Against all sorts of nasty opponents. Would be a great counter point to Guilliman. Jonson is not likely to be happy at the state of the emperium. But he's also not likely to waste time sulking around. He would show up frown, a lot. Gather forces and jump straight into battle. The only other 2 I would also consider are Russ and maybe Dorn. All the rest of the primarchs are to niche. And would work better if they came in later.
The Dark Angels fell apart while Jonson was in charge. That whole civil war that caused Caliban to get blasted down from a planet to a big rock. As a primarch and the leader. He has to take full responsibility for it having a civil war to begin with. Jonson also has to deal with the Emperor being on the golden throne. Where he wasn't around to fight for the Emperor. When he he most needed it. What would happen. Is Guilliman would ask Jonson. "Where have you been?" Then Jonson would say something like "I'm here now. Lets stay focused on the problems in front of us."
The Lion would likely come into conflict with Guilliman. The Lion is fanatically loyal to Big E, and never trusted Guillimans ambition, I mean he did initially view Imperium Secundus as a betrayal. Without Sanguinius to cool relations between them I doubt they would at all want anything to do with the other. I think this would be a great story to go with, two primarchs that hate each other yet both are totally loyal to the Imperium. Plus, The Lion does not know what happened to Big E or that his legion was broken up by none other than Guilliman.
I personally think it is Valdor, and it matches the timeline. Because remember, Guilliman died and then Russ and Valdor vanished. Valdor, at the very least, has to return before Guilliman as "everything returns to as it once was".
It wouldn’t shock me if they revealed it to be valdor but held back on using him for a little while, then bring him in to save the day at some point. (Maybe the genestealer cult from the new box set on Terra get too powerful, start to beat back the custodes and then in comes valdor to save the day with his army)
Because if Valdor was in the warp doing anything, it literally could have been yesterday, when he went in. The Warp doesn't obey time, and that means that if GW wants to pull anything that doesn't make sense out of the bag, the warp did it is a viable excuse.
Well here is a thought I have had before. What if the tree of life is the Eldar god trapped in Nurgles garden. That would be interesting, a pack of wolves tearing through the garden looking for the ‘tree’
I think that the name of King jn Yellow is either John Grammaticus or Oll Person. Everyone forgets about Enuncia story line, the major problem in Ravenor/Eisenhorn series. And as for Valdor and Russ....Valdor still plays Blood Game in Webway, tries to wipe out the hordes of demons in it, also he is looking for someone who disappeared in Webway. And there are more candidates than one :)
i think that book ( wolftime) is perhaps related to the penitent in some ways. i think we will have a glimpse of what leman is doin with the comeback from one of his 12 son that followed him anouncing his eventual return
You assume that Valdor in the current timeline has been successful at whatever he was planning to do. Eisenhorn and Ravenor could have ruined his plans or even killed him, or maybe the eldar exterminatused his little demi plane, or any of the chaos factions opposing him, or all of the above together. The book being a red herring seems too far fetched since the king threw serious resources at it, and it really would be a dick move from Abnett to pull such a swicheroo.
*No, its not before the great rift. we know there are passages in the books that says clearly that the Firstborns are close to extinction. so they clearly foreshadowed the Primaris Marines years before we knew them. I think they are far ahead of the game and that Primaris Marines finally took over the Firstborns*
Could actually be Dorn, and the last thing he is told by the Emperor is to find my true name, Also Valdor's name could be in the book as a reference of one of Dorn's agents.....just a thought.
I know it's a little on the nose, but someone working within the warp to combat chaos, seeking the Emperor's name, associated with yellow... Well, Dorn could certainly fit that.
We know that the Emperor's soul is shattered. Maybe he has forgotten his true name and needs it to (partially) reform his soul back? Seeing as that a true name of a demon gives you power over it, maybe he intends to use that logic on himself?
The part where you mention Russ searching for the tree of life I instantly remembered the story The Crimson King and what Ahriman said after he had a vision of some sorts. It was like "Arvida, the tree if life?" I try to find the passage, but since we know Revuel Arvida is Janus and that his old name has a connection to the tree of life gives me hope that Janus and Russ will meet at some point. I know, Janus is supposed to be dead, but can you imagine Russ meeting the best shard of Magnus and what they could accomplish? What do you think about that guys?
@@squirrelking4174 They pretty much despised each other to a degree, but it would be a poetic and badass reunion. They had no rivalry like Perturabo and Dorn, I think there´d be some hope of getting along, especially because Janus is not just Magnus, but the noble part of him.
@@PretenderCS despised? From what I can recall, Russ was REALLY hesitant to attack prospero and tried desperately to contact magnus to get him to surrender peacefully. Russ did not want to kill his brother. Says a lot about the “Emperors executioner”
The King in Yellow is Valdor I think and I hope he has a glorious return, but I think it will wait till another big force is needed for him to come out and help. However I think the Lion will return first and then possibly Khan or Corax before Valdor. As we just got a new Captain General of the Custodes so GW will want to release Primarch models first. Then Valdor later is my bet.
with how close Russ and Valdor are, i wouldn't doubt that if they ran into each other in the immaterium, they would just join each other on their quests, and make sure they complete each other's quests together. they may in fact even be linked to each other, and with mutual goals along with eternal friendship, i wouldn't doubt that they are together
Valdor is probably distracting the chaos forces while russ hunts with the 13th company for their prey and valdor raising a army to fight the chaos gods.
How do you get around “These men are my bodyguards, their lives forfeit to the guarantee of my physical safety. Of their loyalty to me there shall be no question nor doubt. I, and I alone, shall have the authority to stand in judgement over them. No other commander shall they have in battle nor in service. None shall bar them from me and none shall hamper or stall their mission. So it is decreed!”
Two metaphysical blades outright spells it out. Their destinies are linked. As to the King in Yellow. There's the golden ships in a fantastically large and impressive city of high technology staffed by pariahs. A fight against chaos with legions of winged astartes. This clearly isn't some kind of rinky dinky operation. It's got bottomless resources, or nearly so. It's veiled in secrecy, as much as possible at least. The parallels with Titan are obvious, the only difference is the scale. That, however, is easy to explain when you take into account the few years it took for Titan and you extrapolate what could have taken place over 10 millennia. Does that mean that Valdor and Russ are next? Not necessarily, the time between pariah and penitent was what? 8 years? In that time span, the lion and a few others could return. And why doesn't it have any bearing on the post-cicateix timeline? Maybe it's still veiled in secrecy.
If all Valdor needs to heal/resurrect the Emperor is his true name, then why didn't the Emperor just tell him it instead of sending him off on an Errand to find it? Or just tell Guilliman his true name when communicating with him? Or the Daughters of the Emperor when he communicated with them during the Age of Strife? Or basically anyone at any point that he has communicated with since he was placed on the Golden Throne? That's why this theory makes no sense at all.
What if the true names of Valdor and the Primarchs combined or possibly permitted in a very particular way, form the Emperor's true name hence Constantin Valdor being at the beginning?
Roboute needs to make his own quasi primarch son to share the burden and support him against the Lion as conflict between the Lion and Roboute is inevitable.
I like to think Alpharius will be the next primarch. He steps out of the shadows as a Loyalist primarch and his book will combine Chaos and Loyalist marines for the first time ever. Am I wrong? Prob but I like to hold out some level of hope.
As much as I want the Wolf King back now, I think he and Valdor will be the last of the missing loyalists to return and help save the day in the final battle for the Imperium, as well as resurrecting the Emperor.
What if Johnson returns first but knows he can't go against the fallen with his brother the wolf king, but has to deal with rowboat first they come to blows and Valdor turns up on the middle of a massive fight saying he needs help to rescue the wolf king....long stretch kinda little idealistic and probably a little fanboy ish but how good would it be to see the two primarchs and valdor tear chaos and the fallen a new one just for the wolf king.
I get your skeptisism, but I don't agree with it, the reveal is way too big to ignore. I'm sure you've also by now read the lastest retconned godblight and the major final reveal. As for the timeline, I'm not really sure when Pariah & Penitent happened, sure it's a bit before the present timeline, but I'm not really sure how big of a jump they made, it's clear there's a time jump however.
I would like to see russ them the Lion and have russ leading a defense of the Lion's body. Putting the rivalry to bed.....which fits as it seems like Papa Smurf wanting to end the rivalries.
I’m betting this is just one big Blood Game, Valdor is looking for the Emperor’s name because it’s a weakness. He doesn’t want to to resurrect Big E, he wants to destroy it so no one will ever have power over the Emperor. In my opinion anyway.
its going to go like this Russ and Valdor will come walking out of the warp side by side drinking fenrizian ale singing battle songs with Russ holing the head of Nurgle and Isha walking next to Valdor.
I think Russ' title of "The Emperor's executioner" actually has an intended double meaning. For the Emperor to be reborn Russ actually has to slay what's left of him. Gotta dash, the Inquisition are at the door....

(He doesn't want that hand back, obviously.) That said, Valdor is definitely involved -- and so is Russ, even if Russ tried to have his sons help rid him of his spear.
If you were in the warp or a pocket dimention having something to tie you to the material realm might be very helpful.
before the next primarch release i really really hope omegon comes to guiliman. imagine if you will the chaos primarch omegon letting guiliman know that he is working for the benifit of the imperium, after 10k years ago the very same legion tried to kill him with a kill team. whether or not he does anything with the knowledge wouldn't matter because the shadow of doubt would always be there but it would be a hell of a "talk" with the head of the hydra.
Could be the king in yellow could be Dorn. An just wanted to say love listening to you. Keep them coming
King in Yellow is Dorn.... with that being said, Valdor is with him
I thought a book (Pariah?) pretty much came out and said Valdor is the king in yellow. Basically, they found the book about the king (book was named the king in yellow, IIRC) and it was filled with names and nothing else- the names of Constantin Valdor
Hit the nail on the head there Shane
They have mentioned a lot of people, would say the Lion is easiest to intoduce again but I bet that GW will just ask the sales department;
"money, money, in our shares. Who will earn us the most profit, this next year?"
If the Lion shows back up, I sure hope it’s with a release of new Fallen models, including Luther…
He's actually Alpharius, replaced him after convincing Dorn he had killed Alpharius. He is now placed inside Chaos and the highlords after Omegan hypno-blocked the plan.
It's like you go through my audible account and make videos about whatever I'm listening to haha.just getting into a valdor deep dive now. Love it
I’ve always wondered why the emperor is so adamant about being kept just barely alive when they could let him die and he would be reborn anew, maybe his closest allies are keeping him at his weakest for the powers of chaos?
The alpha legion and valor are working on the ferrus beacon to replace the astronamican to free emps
Valdor’s definitely one of my favorite characters
Could Sanguinius's writings about the golden figure who stands in the throne room defending the Emperor from the darkness be Valdor?
I don't, but it would be an interesting story to read. The Captain General who let the Emperor be mortaly wounded returning home to uphold his oath against the encroaching darkness and defend is master once more. That would be a thrill.
Or could it be Dorn?
@@____________838 that would also be a good path to read.
The King in Yellow is Rogal Dorne, no I will not explain why.
And would work better if they came in later.
first he would slap Guilliman: dude wtf did you to my legion!
I'd lean toward it being Dorn with King in Yellow. Although I think the Lion will be the next loyalist to return to the setting.
I'm thinking Corax and the Khan are also in play
Because if Valdor was in the warp doing anything, it literally could have been yesterday, when he went in. The Warp doesn't obey time, and that means that if GW wants to pull anything that doesn't make sense out of the bag, the warp did it is a viable excuse.
I can't wait for the next Bequin novel!
Long past time they brought back Russ and The Lion. It's time we get some balance against the Chaos Lords.
Wonder if Russ has become a big ass wolf like corax when he embrace his warp power
Maybe it's Dorn, Russ and Valdor
Gold is gold, yellow is very imperial fist
When I have no idea. Excited to find out!
i think that book ( wolftime) is perhaps related to the penitent in some ways. i think we will have a glimpse of what leman is doin with the comeback from one of his 12 son that followed him
anouncing his eventual return
Great predictions for the future on the lore so far, very accurate indeed, so be interesting to see where the Valdor / Russ lore develops 👌
You assume that Valdor in the current timeline has been successful at whatever he was planning to do. Eisenhorn and Ravenor could have ruined his plans or even killed him, or maybe the eldar exterminatused his little demi plane, or any of the chaos factions opposing him, or all of the above together. The book being a red herring seems too far fetched since the king threw serious resources at it, and it really would be a dick move from Abnett to pull such a swicheroo.
king in yellow could be a reference to dorn as well.
The King in Yellow is also a reference to The King in Yellow, book of short stories by the American writer Robert W. Chambers.
*No, its not before the great rift. we know there are passages in the books that says clearly that the Firstborns are close to extinction. so they clearly foreshadowed the Primaris Marines years before we knew them. I think they are far ahead of the game and that Primaris Marines finally took over the Firstborns*
Which page number?
@@jalleonothing5946 I listen to audiobooks sorry forgot even the time. but they are there.
What if, now hear me out, what if Russ returned, and he went and woke up the Lion with a punch?
Could actually be Dorn, and the last thing he is told by the Emperor is to find my true name, Also Valdor's name could be in the book as a reference of one of Dorn's agents.....just a thought.
I'm not a huge lore buff, but I think perhaps the king in yellow could perhaps be Dorn.
Cool theory
Wait... The King in Yellow is a Lovecraft thing...
it indeed
I think Constantine is a being similar to Malcador and maybe the Emporer. I could imagine him becoming a new host for the Star Child.
The part where you mention Russ searching for the tree of life I instantly remembered the story The Crimson King and what Ahriman said after he had a vision of some sorts. It was like "Arvida, the tree if life?"
I try to find the passage, but since we know Revuel Arvida is Janus and that his old name has a connection to the tree of life gives me hope that Janus and Russ will meet at some point. I know, Janus is supposed to be dead, but can you imagine Russ meeting the best shard of Magnus and what they could accomplish?
What do you think about that guys?
Would be pretty cool. Werent Russ and magnus close?
Just pre ordered Wolf 🐺 time on Audible
I did not knew that it was even a "King in Yellow" in 40k xD
I have a feeling it is Valdor but I also think that we won’t be getting the next book in that series from Dan for a few years yet.
If they make a model of valdor for 40k I'll play custodes
I mean just use the 30k one
I predict the king in yellow is the custodes ‘RA’, the one who got stabbed with the demon sword in the webway
For the love of god, I hope the emperor's real name is Jimmy Space. Like that hilarious video.
A games workshop staff member told me a russ model has been designed and he's a wulfen
If the lion returns I'd love to see how he would react to Dante being in command of half the imperium
9:48 That's Victor Creed Aka Sabretooth
Rumour has it wolf lord rho got stuck between portals on prospero during the purging and now occupies his time making lore videos whilst stuck there
Of all the lore, this is something I do not really know how I think about it one way or the other.
May be Valdor being king in yellow means not his return, but disappearance of the inquisitors and the author?
I tell Valrak that Wolf Lord Rho is the best Lore master every time I get the chance too. =)
Would be nice
Roboute needs to make his own quasi primarch son to share the burden and support him against the Lion as conflict between the Lion and Roboute is inevitable.
The galaxy trembles with that two titans
I like to think Alpharius will be the next primarch. He steps out of the shadows as a Loyalist primarch and his book will combine Chaos and Loyalist marines for the first time ever. Am I wrong? Prob but I like to hold out some level of hope.
I've never witnessed someone trying to psy-op himself. Brilliant work.
I think we will all be dead by the time GW gets on with it already.
To answer your question you beautiful voiced bastard, Valdor and Russ are like 2 Metaphysical blades....
In what year do you think Russ will return?
Sweet Valdor art
As much as I want the Wolf King back now, I think he and Valdor will be the last of the missing loyalists to return and help save the day in the final battle for the Imperium, as well as resurrecting the Emperor.
Bless the Allfather, he will return soon, I know it. It is a good time to be a space wolf indeed.
As for the timeline, I'm not really sure when Pariah & Penitent happened, sure it's a bit before the present timeline, but I'm not really sure how big of a jump they made, it's clear there's a time jump however.
king in yellow is probably Dorn. maybe even a cloned Dorn.
The 'Bros before... Legion Crusade'?
I would like to see russ them the Lion and have russ leading a defense of the Lion's body. Putting the rivalry to bed.....which fits as it seems like Papa Smurf wanting to end the rivalries.
What if the King in Yellow is Rogal Dorn?
In centurion armor? Yes.
I’m betting this is just one big Blood Game, Valdor is looking for the Emperor’s name because it’s a weakness. He doesn’t want to to resurrect Big E, he wants to destroy it so no one will ever have power over the Emperor. In my opinion anyway.
a King in yellow ? would that not be the prymach dorn ?
This Army of blanks… think they could be used to repair the web way project?
Still got Johnson juuuuuuuuust waitin
What if: We get Fulgrim, Russ, and Lion'el Johnson all at the same time?
its going to go like this Russ and Valdor will come walking out of the warp side by side drinking fenrizian ale singing battle songs with Russ holing the head of Nurgle and Isha walking next to Valdor.
Awwww! Valdor got his own Waifu!
I wonder how did Lorgar manged to do 7 dislikes with one click... must be some chaos fuckery involved =))
Hm is valdor actually related to malcador
