You forgot to mention that the 4k 120hz pass through should eliminate the audio delay that plagues the Xbox Series X/S consoles when playing Dolby Atmos. I find it funnny that no reviewers ever seem to mention about this when it's such a big issue that might finally be fixed due to 2.1 pass through.
That delay is from the internal audio reformatting of the Xbox. It has nothing to do with HDMI 2.1 passthrough. Always run the Xbox in 5.1 or 7.1 LPCM for surround.

Dolby Atmos works perfectly on the Xbox when you pass through my soundbar BUT my soundbar is only hdmi 2.0 so I lose access to 4k 120hz HDR, etc doing it that way. Therefore my only option is to connect the Xbox to TV, then TV to soundbar via earc. This is what creates the audio delay. Now the new soundbar has hdmi 2.1 I can finally feed the Xbox through the soundbar without having to sacrifice ANYTHING and I also will have zero audio delay. Hopefully you understand now 🤞
unfortunately it's only the Q990D that has 4k 120hz too so if you don't want to spend that much or need that many speakers, any of the lower tier Q9xxD or even Q8xxD will only have 4k 60hz
I think the biggest upgrade they could have brought is to allow connection of an additional subwoofer, as just 120hz input is not changing much for the extra price 🙃

Did they update the fact that the 990c only automatically says Dolby Atmos on the display, but no other codecs like DTS-HD, DTS:X or Dolby 5.1 display. You have to press the information button on the remote. It would be nice for each codec to show on the display automatically. Also, the Smart Things app has not information button for the soundbar control. Not big problems, but they can be resolved with software and firmware updates. The soundbar is amazing though and easily fills the room.
I have an old LG B7 with no eArc. If I want to connect a blu ray player with dolby atmos, can i plug it into the 990c as input and output to TV? Or do I need the hdmi 2.1 input on the 990d?

not important if you have more then one earc connection on tv. is it even important with gaming on console? i tried it never used it again. graphics downgraded, horrible controll with joypad, it start to get annoying very fast.
I down sized from a 5.1.2 AVR setup cuz tower speakers and others were too big for the wife and space. My Q990D just arrived yesterday and have it paired with my 2023 85" QM8 and I could be happier. The size of the bar fits perfectly under the bezel, but does need to come some so it doesn't block the TCL remote from properly working. I'm still trying to figure out if I need to adjust any channel levels, but with the adaptive feature set, I'm not sure if I need to. Been searching online for recommendations. I highly recommend this soundbar!!!

I have both q990b on 77C1 and q990c my daily 65C2. If I mention "another soundbar" my wife gonna kill me... Honesty, only bass is little better on C model, but if you you bass enchantment on B model you can get 80% close to C.

Feel your pain. I changed up from a 2.1 to a 5.1 bar. My wife said it's a soundbar it doesn't matter. I was hurt. We spend time anally tinkering for the perfect mix, when wives, in general, are just happy to enjoy it 🙃

Roon users would most likely have a dedicated hifi stereo setup or an avr setup at the least in the same space as the tv on which they would listen to their music (facilitated by Roon). But if you have a separate tv room or something it's nice to have it as a Roon endpoint as well I guess.
Alot cheaper then sonos arc and many have said sound better too. I love my q950a which is almost the same exact thing as this one...better than my actual circa1999 cheap 5.1 RCA home theater from Walmart

If I connect the soundbar to earc to my Samsung s90c and then connect my pc to the other hdmi 2.1 and passthrough the audio. Will I get the best audio possible without any loss or would it be better to connect the soundbar directly to the pc ? That’s the only thing keeping me from buying the q990c. Can anyone help ? The s90c has 4 ports hdmi 2.1 so that is not an issue. I just want to know if will affect anything with the audio passing through.
So, this passthrough is all I care about. I have a RTX 4090 and a LG C3 TV as my monitor.. like a whole lot of other PC users. Is it still better to use the HDMI Cable straight to TV and eARC port from TV to soundbar.. OR should HDMI 2.1 cable from graphics card (with hdmi 2.1 out) straight to this soundbar then TV? So, while I dont notice any or if there is just a micro sound delay sometimes. Yet, does that mean by going through the soundbar, the HDR will be worse? or VRR, ALLM yada yada?? !!

If your consoles are directly plugged in your tv, it won't make a difference. Only the sound will return to your soundbar. And 2.1 doesn't do any more for the sound 🙃
@@TheLorDRex dts will shoe up as multi channel pcm in some situations, but just now it's a bit of a minefield. My Amazon music is Atmos on firestick, but not on TV app, but hdmi sockets tend to behave better 🙃

get the samsung soundbar. I had the a7000 with the bigger sub and the lack of a dedicated center channel kills this system. samsung sound bar sounds way better
If it's basically a firmware update will this update be available for people who already own the 990C, If so sticking with what you have and just adding the update surely is the best bet.
You can use the photo wall frame speakers as speakers if you use a 2024 Samsung tv...it is part of the Q symphony that enhance the 990 C or D sound bar
But it works only one frame, so u can maybe use that back center or other side only, so it's very stupid thing. If u can use two frame both side it would be great, but no u can't.

They are different speakers. As far as I know, Samsung does not sell the rear speakers that come with the Q990c or D. Wish had a tech support that could actually answer a question like yours rather than just speaking to a rep in Guam and your speaking with a person that doesn’t have the system and it’s probably never used the system and just read from a script. Bose needs to come out with rear speakers that fire upwards.

As a PC gamer, i was obligated to get the Q990D for the 4k/120hz playthrough. With the Q990D paired to the S95D, my home theatre setup is fire for gaming on an RTX4090
@SovettaParmetta yes. Wireless keyboard, mouse and controllers. The PC is connected through my QN990D soundbar using pass through on full spec HDMI 2.1. So I get fully DTS or Dolby Audio if provided.

I have the Q990C with the second sub mod and Atmos mod! 🎉 I can say for sure it awesome! And def cannot be beat for less than $999.0. Samsung website has the Q990C for $668 on the partner portal. 🎉 For the voice enhanced mode on the Q990C, you don’t need it if connected to a Samsung tv and use QSymphony. Without QSymphony, you can manually adjust the center channel in smart things. Otherwise the voice enhanced mode is very very intense. 🎉
I have the Q990C and the voice amplifier I don't like and never turn it on. All it does is make it sound tinny and way to much enhanced treble. Even without the voice amp off , I have the treble set at -6 and even on this setting, at times it still sounds like there's too much treble & tin type sound quality.
@@timoschmidt1136He shouldn't even have to do that except to get DTS. I don't believe for a second that his TV's eARC can't passthrough Dolby Digital or PCM. Even old school optical cables can do that.

@@chipmccray7546All Soundbar systems and Receiver Systems are going to be powered in order to play audio. The only option would be the JBL 1300X with wireless rear speakers that are rechargeable (and can be powered as well). It’s more expensive, but will meet your completely wireless needs.
So if the amps, power, speakers, assembly, hardware are all the same.. Samsung could have just literally pushed out a firmware update to turn the 990C into the 990D?
Well that's disappointing and unsurprising, all the other Q series D soundbars from Samsung all have 4k 60hz except the most expensive bundle of Q990D. I don't need that many speakers
I get the impression that the B, C, D in the model name is a bit of a con. I’m pretty sure the improvements the last couple of years are primarily software driven and the model number change is solely to hold back updates and improvements from existing owners in order to try and extract more money in upgrades. Spending so much on these and then having them hold back updates after just 12 months is pretty poor.

Also. For anyone buying the Q990C/D.. trust me when I say the 2nd sub mod is extremely easy and awesome!! I strongly reommmend the RSL SPEEDWOOFER 10S if you just want to add a second sub to match the factory sub. Otherwise get the SVS PB1000 or even better the RSL Speedwoofer 12S which plays down to 16hz and has high level outputs that can be used to add a 3rd sub! 🎉 cheers!!
Samsung is ridiculous. The ONLYYYYY Q series D that has the 4k 120hz passthrough is the Q990D btw, all the other -D soundbars only have 4k 60hz so buyers beware if you assume they all have it.
if you have the money and patience. you have to wait along time for preorder. nakamichi does not have production capacity like samsung. some parts are even handmade
I got a real dilema here hope someone can offer some advice. I want great speakers, google home connectivity, and good voice amplification. The q990C and D both have the good speakers and google home connectivity. Can anyone say if the voice amp is fine on the C or just way better on the D? Lastly your choice comes with the option to buy the (q990C at $570) or (q990D at $937)... Any advice will be appreciated. Im just tired of constantly raising and lowering my tvs volume during movies or tv shows

Honestly I have not been able to tell the difference in sound quality from the 2022 2023 and 2024 version of their soundbar 😅 and in terms of 4k 120 pass tru most ppl will have more than enough ports on their tv and for the Roon certification is honestly pointless is a soundbar after all .

Any soundbar with a non-ARC hdmi port will work. Soundbars with just one (arc) hdmi port would require an earc/arc extractor.

The s90c has 4 ports hdmi 2.1 so that is not an issue. I just want to know if will affect anything with the audio passing through.

Hi , my tv has 4 hdmi 2.1 inputs so am I loosing something ? , my ps5 and pc are connected to the tv and I use a 990C , it doesnt have hdmi 2.1 as many people want this feature , is it because they dont have a tv with hdmi 2.1 ?
If your consoles are directly plugged in your tv, it won't make a difference. Only the sound will return to your soundbar. And 2.1 doesn't do any more for the sound 🙃

@@TheLorDRex dts will shoe up as multi channel pcm in some situations, but just now it's a bit of a minefield. My Amazon music is Atmos on firestick, but not on TV app, but hdmi sockets tend to behave better 🙃

tbf i think based clean setup and user friendly and sound quality, it rather go for sony then for this years 990d.
get the samsung soundbar. I had the a7000 with the bigger sub and the lack of a dedicated center channel kills this system. samsung sound bar sounds way better
If it's basically a firmware update will this update be available for people who already own the 990C, If so sticking with what you have and just adding the update surely is the best bet.
Upgraded from the Q950A to the Q990C. No reason to get the D since you can connect your 2.1 hdmi to your TV instead
You can use the photo wall frame speakers as speakers if you use a 2024 Samsung tv...it is part of the Q symphony that enhance the 990 C or D sound bar
But it works only one frame, so u can maybe use that back center or other side only, so it's very stupid thing. If u can use two frame both side it would be great, but no u can't.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a Q900c and then buy the rear 9500S speakers separately? I saw that they were cheaper together, than the full Q990c. Are the 9500S' the same as the rear speakers on the Q990C, is that true?
They are different speakers. As far as I know, Samsung does not sell the rear speakers that come with the Q990c or D. Wish had a tech support that could actually answer a question like yours rather than just speaking to a rep in Guam and your speaking with a person that doesn’t have the system and it’s probably never used the system and just read from a script. Bose needs to come out with rear speakers that fire upwards.

@SovettaParmetta yes. Wireless keyboard, mouse and controllers. The PC is connected through my QN990D soundbar using pass through on full spec HDMI 2.1. So I get fully DTS or Dolby Audio if provided.

I have the Q990C with the second sub mod and Atmos mod! 🎉 I can say for sure it awesome! And def cannot be beat for less than $999.0. Samsung website has the Q990C for $668 on the partner portal. 🎉
For the voice enhanced mode on the Q990C, you don’t need it if connected to a Samsung tv and use QSymphony.
Without QSymphony, you can manually adjust the center channel in smart things. Otherwise the voice enhanced mode is very very intense. 🎉
I have the Q990C and the voice amplifier I don't like and never turn it on. All it does is make it sound tinny and way to much enhanced treble. Even without the voice amp off , I have the treble set at -6 and even on this setting, at times it still sounds like there's too much treble & tin type sound quality.
WHAT'S DISAPPOINTING IS WHEN PAIRED WITH A SAMSUNG TV 📺 THERE IS NO DTS X OR DTS DD PLUS, DOLBY ATMOS AND MULTI-CHANNEL PCM ARE AVAILABLE
You have to connect your Blu Ray Player / Console directly to the Soundbar then you have all surround formats available.

I have the 990C and the rears are wireless. You only have to plug them into the wall for power. No wires to run to the soundbar.

@@chipmccray7546All Soundbar systems and Receiver Systems are going to be powered in order to play audio. The only option would be the JBL 1300X with wireless rear speakers that are rechargeable (and can be powered as well). It’s more expensive, but will meet your completely wireless needs.

I get the impression that the B, C, D in the model name is a bit of a con. I’m pretty sure the improvements the last couple of years are primarily software driven and the model number change is solely to hold back updates and improvements from existing owners in order to try and extract more money in upgrades. Spending so much on these and then having them hold back updates after just 12 months is pretty poor.

I strongly reommmend the RSL SPEEDWOOFER 10S if you just want to add a second sub to match the factory sub. Otherwise get the SVS PB1000 or even better the RSL Speedwoofer 12S which plays down to 16hz and has high level outputs that can be used to add a 3rd sub! 🎉 cheers!!

I got a real dilema here hope someone can offer some advice. I want great speakers, google home connectivity, and good voice amplification. The q990C and D both have the good speakers and google home connectivity. Can anyone say if the voice amp is fine on the C or just way better on the D? Lastly your choice comes with the option to buy the (q990C at $570) or (q990D at $937)... Any advice will be appreciated. Im just tired of constantly raising and lowering my tvs volume during movies or tv shows

Honestly I have not been able to tell the difference in sound quality from the 2022 2023 and 2024 version of their soundbar 😅 and in terms of 4k 120 pass tru most ppl will have more than enough ports on their tv and for the Roon certification is honestly pointless is a soundbar after all .
