Just bought mine q990d for 1100 on site. Definitely an unprecedented from hw-n650 have a big living room and man this thing is a beast. Was going to go with sonos but it just didn't work well with tv samsung neo tv. Definitely recommend
@ivanpetrov7379 yes I definitely feel a big difference before I bought the sound bar I bought the Sonos arc because I was told that it would be better it was not that good and not even close to the old sound bar I got when I got the Q 990 D it filled up the whole room and it seems to read the room whenever I add or move items and adjust it it's just a really big game changer I would highly recommend it if you really looking for that Cinema experience. It works really great with Q Symphony as well if you have one of those Samsung TVs. And the volume can go up extraordinarily High without distortion. For me it is a 10/10
@@Sdancefear I had 650n. I just got 995D. And it does not seem much louder than 650n. If I use standart sound, it sounds similar to my tv. It gets up to decent volume only when I turn all the fancy features, q symphony, adaptive sound and etc. WHen i listen UA-cam from samsung tv, it does not sound very loud. I would say it is just as laud as my 650n was, which is 3 times smaller. Despite the 990C/D’s lower price you’ve somehow steered me into the Sonos ecosystem, and I’m happy to be here. My wife thinks the Era 300s are too loud, but I know they’re just right 😬
It’s clear to me now that I need a channel for the wives to tell them which systems will disturb them the least and probably stop working after six months … woman really dislike audio equipment … nearly universal

Thanks. Been looking forward to your take. I hope there will be some 990C discounts. All the while saving for a relatively cheap stereo system on the side.
With the Q990B, the rear speakers can be used as front speakers as well, just checked. Otherwise, my brother has the Q990C and we don't notice any difference in sound, I believe even the Q990D isn't worth the upgrade for either of us.
Thank you for the review! i have just purchased this with a qn90d TV. Initial set up was all great. but then i plugged my ps5 into the soundbar to try get the pass through and now the Tv thinks the hdmi connection is "Invalid hdmi eARC". its bizarre. Everything works, the sound all works, qsymphony all work the soundbar still shows up with TV eARC but i can't get it to show up as anything other Invalid hdmi eARC when i go into settings and connections. I've tested 3 8k ultra high speed cables certified as the supplied cable was too short with how i've got the wall mount. Any thoughts as to why?
I really wanted a solid reason to pull the trigger on the D, but it’s just not a big enough step forward. Guess I’ll just keep saving money until I can either afford the Dragon or the illegal Sonos. 😂 Hell by that time I’m sure the new Sonos bar will be out and the Music Frame mystery will probably be solved. What a time to be alive.
Hopefully Samsung will somehow allow an extra set of surround speakers to be brought into the picture with all the talk of getting more like Sonos ecosystems. Does anyone have anymore info regarding this? Not just room- room capabilities and also a more punchy subwoofer would be nice. Samsung needs to do something if they want to keep up with or at least compete with the Dragon. Have the Q990C and love it for the better part but it is missing a couple of key features which I have mentioned. Get on it Samsung, give us what we are asking for.
Thanks for the initial reviews of the up coming 990D. This may be interesting sonically compare to the previous generations. Even though the dimensions of the drivers appears to be the similar size. Can't wait for the proper hands on reviews. I wonder if the latest software makes any improvement or enhancement from the original Q990B?
I have this soundbar and just added a Klipsch w350 subwoofer and it turned into a beast. Bass is set at 40hz and low gain at 2 . Still it sounds insane. Pretty easy mod if you know what you are doing.
@@mamba101 it's pretty easy to do, you just need to connect the positive and negative terminal on the Subwoofer and run a speaker wire to the (second) subwoofer. As the new subwoofer just need signal to produce sound since it be a powered subwoofer. Let me know if you need help
One thing to note, and you see it on the graph, is the Standard sound mode limits the channels/speakers, you don't end up getting them all which sucks. I wish they had pushed 4k 120 passthrough onto the other D 2024 models, it sucks they only pushed it to 990D, come on Samsung, what's up with these minuscule changes and not pushing them to the entire line up
I get the impression that the B, C, D in the model name is a bit of a con. I’m pretty sure the improvements the last couple of years are primarily software driven and the model number change is solely to hold back updates and improvements from existing owners in order to try and extract more money in upgrades. Spending so much on these and then having them hold back updates after just 12 months is pretty poor. I have the B model and there has been no updates for 2 years. There was only a single update in the entire time I owned it. I don’t believe there are no improvements or fixes to be made.
1:43 I would like to know if I use the soundbar passthrough for connecting PS5 to TV, will there be a graphic difference than connecting PS5 to TV directly?
Depends on the TV and supporting tech like Gsync. But the soundbar merely passes data … the TV must support the data so the soundbar pass through will never be better than plugging direct into the TV but it will likely match.
@@recess7 I have the q600b and au8000, did you know you can adjust soundbar woofer equaliser and sound mode settings on the TVs home bar. Also anything passed through the soundbar hdmi input can be controlled with the smart remote.
@@MunKeeButt67 yes I already know that. What I would like to know is there any difference in graphics quality when using soundbar passthrough vs connecting directly to TV when playing PS5.
@@recess7 I think at 60hz there won't be much difference, I use the pass thru for a upscaling Blu-ray playee, and haven't noticed much difference in picture quality, but the audio recognition is better. CEC control has not been affected by the pass thru, meaning I can still use the smart remote for the Blu-ray player. So more up to date models like yours will easily do this.

Samsung have gone first then with the release, although not many differences. Klipsch Flexus will be next in April. New Sonos bar should be around June/July. Then Sony Bravia quad theatre when it gets announced ;)
@@neverenoughtechOn the Klipsch it's confirmed. The Sonos Lasso (codename) is being sent out to beta users currently so it won't be too far off. No idea what the Sony thing is yet although after some data mining it looks like it could be their own version of Dolby flex connect, so basically a ht-a9 system without the need for the connect box and the TV does all the work. Im really wondering if its worth spending the extra $400 on the D specifically the only feature im focused on is that ava "pro" no one seems to be able to answer what the difference actually is. If anyone here has a q990c do you like the voice enhancement on it or do you wish it could be better? Samsung rep told me both the D and the C are fully compatible with google home. The only thing to decide on now is if the voice enhancement is actually worth it.
Hi..are you saying that the Atmos and DTS:x will be available only if we pair with Samsung TVs? I have LG. What is your recommendation? In India, it is not yet released. The retailers are clearing off 990C before they start selling 990D.
Since the Q990B you could create a proprietary connection with higher end 2022 Samsung TVs for wireless atmos and dts -- it does not work if you mix Samsung and LG
I have exited the Samsung prediction business … that being said yes wait and first see what they will offer next year and make a decision between 24/25 model - which may be a significant change
I mean i want to buy this but this doesn't feel premium enough so was the 990c..gotta go for the 900 bose just the bar..in India both are similarly priced...only a stupid like me would prefer the bose when u get just the bar at that price.. But but, looks matter nd i think the 10inch bose base module is better... Why can't Samsung be premium enough like in sound.. the packaging is basic...poor unboxing experience...i know the 990c sounds better tho..ur thoughts?
I get where you’re coming from but I think you’re discounting Samsung too much - at this point they are offering a ton of features on a mature product. I really need Bose to offer proper (ultra) surrounds - then I would give them a more central place amongst my reviews and comparisons. If you like Bose get it and hope they offer ultra surrounds soon
Bose is excellent in their R&D and sound clarity. Huge respect for them. But for the price point for Q990C among others, giving customers a way higher than decent sound quality and true Home theatre experience in the entertainment zone. I have never used a Samsung product, but Q990C has changed the perspective. May b I am wrong in my view. But Samsung have is a 11.1 experience at half of the price of a 7.1 compared to sony and Bose. Just my thoughts.
@@loginmeeanish i understand that samsung sounds better nd big due to more drivers nd a even balanced sound, and that too at half the price. My major grype is in the looks department. I just dont like the hexagonal shape of the q990c soundbar, nd the surrounds. In 2025 with the e model design could change significantly
Before i purchased the 990C, i had auditioned the bose 900 w the 700 sub, & their surround speakers. The movie sound was good...but i found the bass was just too boomy. The sales rep tried to tune the base all the way down...did not make it tight or flat...maybe their demo room was too small...
Thanks for the buyers guide. i was thinking of buying the Q990C as the new D is a little out of my budget. Can anyone clarify if i can use the soundbar wirelessly if the TV is an LG and not a SAMSUNG. To the 2 HDMI ports, ill be connecting a TV Streamer and a Game Console ? Will i still have Wireless connection to the speakers and SUB with this arrangement ?
You can only do wireless atmos and dts:x with Samsung TVs (fancy 2022 and beyond) … most TVs have a way to connect via BT for stereo connections (that the SB system can upmix but will sound limited) How the bar connects to the tv will not impact the wireless playback of the surrounds and sub other than transferred audio quality. For the best results regardless of TV … do only wired connections
@@neverenoughtech thanks for the reply. That's very helpful ! I didn't see wires in the box for wired connections. Do we have to buy them separately? I only saw power connection cables in an unboxing I watch ...
Ahh, I misunderstood. You mean wired as in via HDMI. Yes, this will be how I connect the LG with the Q990C. I won't be connecting via wireless or BT, only HDMI. Will the wireless speakers and sub still work wirelessly if I connect a streamer and a game console to the other two HDMI ports on the bar of the soundboard?
Apple Music does not support Chromecast and no airplay does not support beyond CD quality - my understanding is that it can transmit that in a lossless manner
This is an interesting question...i am using an Android phone & sending both 24bit/96khz Flac files as well as 16 bit uncompressed Wav music to the soundbar...however, the interface is only SBC Bluetooth codec...is it considered as hi-res then?
Hahaha thanks for the mention, that was funny. I just can't find a system to make the jump still, but I'll definitely let you know when I can buy it for $800 but not sure what to do 🤣. There's always something holding me back, in this case the weak sub.
@@neverenoughtech Well, we are poor people, and for you, even though it will be sad, we all hope for the day you don't even remember about any of us because you got over a million subscribers!
I think a second sub link could sway people to go for this, the 120hz includion is too niche a market, as mostly gamers looking for an all in 1 system could be the only market, as it doesn't make much difference for movie or music fans 🙃
@@neverenoughtech yeah they probably do shift a lot thinking about it. I only use my wife's switch, never been that interested. But an amount of children gaming will probably only use a TV in their room, or the lounge gear. Samsung better push that market 🙃 Can I ask 1 question, that may sound a bit daft? If I have my linked subwoofer on full volume, will raising the soundbar volume make any difference to it?
You, sir, are a national treasure - we need to clone your DNA and pass it on the AI that will inevitably decide what the future of the human race looks like. Sure, they could base the template on Delta Force operators, but there isn't much point when even the Cyberdyne Systems 101 was virtually indestructible. Live long and prosper.
I’m thinking the D with the music frames up front and tv - might be pretty special - I’m getting that system together for a review - I think there are arguments for top official SB setup (given the officially supported front separation in cooperation with bar and tv
Samsung was a great quality company 10..15..20 years back.... Now they are shady af company, cutting corners everywhere, inventing ''new features'' with non existing descriptions or comparison data and this is why i excluded this brand form my electronic purchases for 4 years now. 😉 This can be 100% applied for every product no matter what category from their 2022, 2023 AND 2024 lineup.

It's not a perfect system, it was designed by someone who isn't interesting in bass. If they could go back to the drawing board and fix it to where we can add more subwoofers to it then it will be a perfect system. Right now it isn't which is why I will never buy it. Q990D vs JBL Bar 1300, which one u reckon deliver better sound quality for movie & music?
Im really wondering if its worth spending the extra $400 on the D specifically the only feature im focused on is that ava "pro" no one seems to be able to answer what the difference actually is. If anyone here has a q990c do you like the voice enhancement on it or do you wish it could be better? Samsung rep told me both the D and the C are fully compatible with google home. The only thing to decide on now is if the voice enhancement is actually worth it.
May want to lean into your instinct
@@neverenoughtech yup im thinking C with no clear "voice enhancement" winner I gotta save the money lol
Nice review keep up the good work
Hi..are you saying that the Atmos and DTS:x will be available only if we pair with Samsung TVs? I have LG. What is your recommendation? In India, it is not yet released. The retailers are clearing off 990C before they start selling 990D.
Since the Q990B you could create a proprietary connection with higher end 2022 Samsung TVs for wireless atmos and dts -- it does not work if you mix Samsung and LG
@@neverenoughtech Thank you. Can you confirm if we use wired connection with LG, ATMOS works? Awaiting your reply.
Yes, with wired connection ATMOS works with LG@@gvdiwakar1
With the possibility of new drivers next year, would you suggest waiting for the 990E?
I have exited the Samsung prediction business … that being said yes wait and first see what they will offer next year and make a decision between 24/25 model - which may be a significant change
At 1:26 what movie is the scene clip from?
Dune part 2
Awesome movie...caught it in the cinema in IMAX yesterday
Can we update the firmware to get the same benefits or nah?
That’s a big fat NO!
What is this? A charity? Go buy the new model! 😅
HDMI 2.1 was much needed on this soundbar.
Low hanging fruit to fix - next year they better do something big … or … else or whatever
True. Perhaps both front and rear surrounds would be interesting.
Why? Why everyone wants that? Can't you use your tv's hdmi? Am I misunderstanding something here?
@@dav1dparkerYou’ve acknowledged everyone wants hdmi which should answer your question why.
@@shemsureshot tv already have like 4 hdmis. Who needs more? Like 10 people?
The bass was too boomy when i played Hotel California...the acoustic version...the audio file is an uncompressed Wav file
You can only do wireless atmos and dts:x with Samsung TVs (fancy 2022 and beyond) … most TVs have a way to connect via BT for stereo connections (that the SB system can upmix but will sound limited)
How the bar connects to the tv will not impact the wireless playback of the surrounds and sub other than transferred audio quality.
Hi, can I play apple lossless music via Chromecast or Apple airplay??
Apple Music does not support Chromecast and no airplay does not support beyond CD quality - my understanding is that it can transmit that in a lossless manner
@@neverenoughtech any ways to listen apple hi res music in Samsung tv and Samsung sound bar ??
This is an interesting question...i am using an Android phone & sending both 24bit/96khz Flac files as well as 16 bit uncompressed Wav music to the soundbar...however, the interface is only SBC Bluetooth codec...is it considered as hi-res then?
@@richardlim1060 sbc codec's can reach only 320kbps. Clearly they aren't transmitting lossless music.

Can the hdmi 2.1 do 4k120hz with VRR?
Yes
@@neverenoughtech is there any added latency when vs direct console/ pc plug in to TV port?
Hahaha thanks for the mention, that was funny. I just can't find a system to make the jump still, but I'll definitely let you know when I can buy it for $800 but not sure what to do 🤣. There's always something holding me back, in this case the weak sub.
Y’all always rub it in that you get the same thing for at least half the price I pay 🙂

Vs Nakamichi Dragon ? Better ?
The dragon is on a different tier in terms of sound fidelity and volume
@@neverenoughtech and price and has 2 subs, and power up to 3000 watts. 😅.
I think a second sub link could sway people to go for this, the 120hz includion is too niche a market, as mostly gamers looking for an all in 1 system could be the only market, as it doesn't make much difference for movie or music fans 🙃
Don’t games make more money than movies and music combined? - but yeah not relevant to everyone - including me
@@neverenoughtech yeah they probably do shift a lot thinking about it.
@@neverenoughtech once again, your talent is exceeded only by your modesty. Now, about that DNA sample .....
Best sound bar of the year so far?
Jbl 1300 maybe
JBL was released last year - I don’t think it competes with the Q900 series as the bar is just too light weight
@paulgrog29 Rting website shows it to be inferior even to the Q930c.
The JBL's bass is really tight & flat...tried the 9.1 & the newer 800...
I got a 990C for less than 1000CAD, a steal. Hard pass on the 990D
I’m thinking the D with the music frames up front and tv - might be pretty special - I’m getting that system together for a review - I think there are arguments for top official SB setup (given the officially supported front separation in cooperation with bar and tv
2022 -> B to 2023 ->C no upgrade , to 2024 -> D no upgrade 😢, the price ⬆️ 😅
Guess it’s not worth it I have the 990b

I got my 990c for free when I bought my 900c
Samsung was a great quality company 10..15..20 years back.... Now they are shady af company, cutting corners everywhere, inventing ''new features'' with non existing descriptions or comparison data and this is why i excluded this brand form my electronic purchases for 4 years now. 😉 This can be 100% applied for every product no matter what category from their 2022, 2023 AND 2024 lineup.
This is an interesting comment...10 to 20 years ago, it was the Japanese brands that stood out in quality & innovation...in recent years, the Korean brands have been innovative & cutting edge...tho' quality is fair...not that great...i'm loving my newly purchased Q990C & hope it lasts at leat 3 yrs...my mobile phones have been Samsung note series since i happily left my iPhone 4s...loving my S23 Ultra right now. Native support for almost all audio formats, from Flac to Wav...just dislike the Tizen os for Samsung TVs...
It's not a perfect system, it was designed by someone who isn't interesting in bass. If they could go back to the drawing board and fix it to where we can add more subwoofers to it then it will be a perfect system. Right now it isn't which is why I will never buy it. A movie isn't good without a good bass with booming effects.
Another minor upgrade year and just as ugly
Sounds like samsung
Looks are a 6ish - I’ve seen uglier
