    I went fishing and someone locked a gate behind me, was stuck in the woods for an hour before I came across your video. Made a shim from a plastic package and managed to get home. Thank you so much for this.

    Thank you for the guide, helped me to eventually open an old lock with a forgotten code that have been laying in a drawer for at least a decade. Thing is the right number is not situated opposit to the holes on the wheels but at the right number. After I discovered that it was an easy pick.

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  10 місяців тому

      Well done for getting it open - excellent! Well done for figuring out the correct numbers in relation to the holes too. I find on one side (left or right) the holes line up differently as opposed to the other side. If you do this method for other types of locks (it works on some models), align up all the holes (probing the same side for each wheel) and then turn all the wheels one position on, see if it opens, turn all the wheels one position on, see if it opens, etc until it opens. Cheers!

    I just decoded an abus bike combination lock using mostly this method. I used the popcan triangle to align all the dials to the same "groove pattern" (e.g., smooth from the top, small bump in the middle for each dial), then just kept turning all the numbers together one rotation at a time till the lock popped. Maybe I got lucky. Thanks for this.

But i tried what you did, and i couldnt really feel them. But i went ahead and used a flashlight on my phone and i could see the groves/pins with my own eyes on the left side! So made them all point upwards and it opened! Barely needed any tools at all to crack it 😂 great content!

    In fact you don't even need a thin metal sheet. I used to decode one by taking a look inside the wheels in clear light. I was able to see a small notch. By setting all the notchs updwards and rotating all the wheels at the same time, you easily can unlock it. I did that when I was a kid :)

    I have both the wetter and pat. pend versions. The wetter is super simple to decode but the pat. pend seems to not be possible to decode for me. I could only find a cut in the first wheel but no in the others. The pat. pend also seems to be much higher quality. No rust unlike the wetter and is much smoother.

    So much fun and information from an little ABUS is amazing. You probably found all ways to get into this lock nondestructively,. Very well investigated and demonstrated - thanks for the entertaining video buddy. If you find another one to buy cheap, you can open up one and look inside.

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  6 років тому

      Thank you! :D :D Yea I found that when I "false" locked it where I could see one of the locking bars, and when I press on it with a pick (to tension it) and I turn each wheel, I can see the locking bar retract in a bit on the true gate and also a false gate on the other side of the true gate - amazing that it has false gates also! I'm tempted to drill out those rivets (although I've never drilled metal before) but it's a nice lock - I'm not ready to destroy it yet ... but yes you're right it'd be interesting and also good for my learning.

    • @Potti314
      @Potti314 6 років тому +1

      It's really cool with the false gates although they are not necessary as the lock usually cannot be opened by pull-picking.

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  6 років тому

      Yes - I don't know why they are there. They will be the ones I feel on the right side of each wheel (the true ones being on the left of each wheel) - if I understand correctly.

      On the back of the lock in video it's written "Pat. pend.", on the one I have "ABUS D-58292 Wetter", that's the only visible difference.
      eldontyrellcorp comment helped, I used magnifier and it was quite easy to see mini pimples on left side of the wheel. As I followed video instruction, couldn't feel/find anything on the right side and on the left side my "instrument" was going in the same deep on every number, but maybe I just was too lame to do it correctly. :))
      Anyway, because of your video I found a right way, thank you!
      P.S. the right numbers are on the other side of the ones where you find the "pimples", or in another words just five numbers more or less.

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  Рік тому

      Yea sounds like the lock could be broken. When you use left vs right, is the left big hole 5 positions away from the right little hole? When it's at the combination that it should be (that you decoded it to be), does it help if you push down and then lift up? ... and lift up hard (it could be stiff or jammed). Also, another way to see if you've set it to the correct combination is by trying to turn the change dial ... it will only turn (a lot) if the correct combination has been dialed in. If it turns (a lot) yet the shackle wont open, then the lock is broken. If the change dial wont turn (a lot) then it's either the wrong combination or the lock still could be broken, but there are other things we can try. Lemme know!

  • @MIXT55

    Well I have tried everything now... the left side, the right side and even just looking at different angles as someone mentioned in the comments but I can not manage to find anything that feels different. I have seen this video at least 10 times now... is it possible they made new revisions of that lock which can not be picked as easy?

    • @Swynndla
      @Swynndla  4 роки тому

      I don't know if they have made a more recent version ... does it still say "Pat. pend." on the back? If so then it'll still be an old one. It's possible that the gaps are extra tight on your one.
      Tip 1: Make sure your probe is thin enough - do you have thinner cans?
      Tip 2: make more than one probe, and try bend the tip slightly outwards or inwards, as sometimes it helps to have a slight angle before the probe will drop in.
      Tip 3: See if you can visually see the gap / indentation between the wheels using a torch and a magnifying glass or using the zoom on your phone's camera.
      Tip 4: Try to make a "shim" that can fit down the side of the shackle to tension the bar at the back as described in my video at 8:35 ... it has to be thin enough to go down in the gap by the shackle, but strong enough to tension the bar. You might be able to use some sort of modified hair clip. If you're able to tension it, then turn each wheel until you feel a difference (a jump or a sudden looseness). Start with the wheel that is "binding" (tougher to turn when tensioning the bar).
      Let me know how you get on - good luck!

      @MIXT55 4 роки тому +1

      @@Swynndla I will try my best. It says "ABUS No. 160/50 ABUS D-58292 Wetter" on the back. I saw another video where someone used a piece of paper on the left of the wheels and when it was the correct number it went slightly deeper but that does not work neither. I will take all your advice and see what I can do. I will attempt at cutting more pieces of metal and bending them to see if I can figure something out. Even with light and a magnifying glass I see nothing when it comes to the correct numbers.
