- Optifine capes are meant to be a harmless reward for donating to Optifine, but in hypixel skyblock, they would lead to one of the most widespread and controversial exploits to date.

There was actually one more entity that had an optifine cape that being decoys they had a black cape with a red heart
if i recall correctly, there were some blood room mobs that had capes as well
i thought that was a feature for so long lmaooo didn't know someone bought that for decoys

nah they dont have control over optifine, its under the allowed mods list but its still considered “use at your own risk”

@@koloiyolo sodium is fabric exclusive and is for pure fps rather than other visual enhancements like shaders and zooming.

@@mavcotm8006 yeah, lots of PvP servers (most popular i can think of is pvpland) have programmed bots with player skins for practice, hypixel isn't the first though the devs probably had to work around compatibility and such

NPC skins don't have to be connected to accounts, the server can typically send "this user has this skin/cape" I believe that is what Hypixel is doing
Yeah. I was thinking the same thing. The client gets all the data from the server, including player textures.
I've done this myself experiencing with the Spigot Api
@ssammyboi wdym by "moving enemy NPCs" i've used the Citizens & Denizens plugin (spigotmc) and am able to script NPCs with custom skins to walk around and do things without a real account being attached to them

The only mod I use is Optifine and the only controversy was fast math varying your reach by 0.1% depending on the angle.

@@DownloadableFox If you are not joking, it's just a setting in optifine that rounds many numbers to still meaninglessly low differences, which boosts the performance. One of those is reach but again, the difference is tiny.

You can use any skin and any Username and they don't have to be connected, so that method to find them doesn't work

Since the capes are loaded client-side, you could also just write a mod to get the player you have to gift a skin to.
But you could put special characters into the name of the NPC
