"Trash Is Gold" The Surprising Value of Production Waste | Changing Tomorrow

  • A small group of designers, product developers and R&D experts from across Salomon looked at the production waste around them and wondered what they might be able to create using only these materials that were about to go out in the trash. They got their hands dirty, picking through ABS, Polypropylene, PU and PA materials in the trash bins of the Salomon prototyping center. Then, with a shredder and a heat press machine, they experimented with the materials they collected, creating everything from snowboard binding pieces to ski boot shells to running shoe parts and even snowboards and skis. Their goal was to change the way people look at trash.

From trash to shredding slopes! What do you think of this innovative upcycling idea?

Great to see this effort taking place. It will be interesting to see how this evolves. Eliminating materials or processes that are superflous, but then also looking at means by which to reutilize materials once their function has ceased, post consumer. Nice that these stories are coming to light and becoming part of the narrative that is Salomon.

This is great. One of the coolest ideas I've seen in a while. I LOVE those sidewalls and topsheets! I would love to ride one. Way to go Salomon with your forward thinking.
This is the way of the future. I really think people would buy these products up. I personally love the idea of a unique, one of a kind board.
Skis and snowboards are typically not very green to produce at all. This is a great way to offset the burden of plastics.
Great job Salomon! Hopefully other brands follow suit.🍻

Does this mean the snowboard and skis are just one piece of plastic or is it made out of layers?

Our snowboards and skis are crafted from multiple layers, including core materials, reinforcements, and outer layers for performance and durability 😉
