the fact that Silco spits at Vander for caring more for his adoptive daughters than Zaun and how Vander gave up fighting to get their own nation for his daughters and then 10 years later Silco is doing the same thing, and that *he acknowledges he's doing the same thing* because he said "is there anything as undoing as a daughter?" and that he knew right then and there he would never give up Jinx for Zaun even if he knows it's hypocritical, but that Jinx didn't understand the context so she misread it is all one huge messy beautiful tangle of emotion that really rips me up
The scene envolving Ekko and Powder is a masterpiece of emotions and storytelling, the hability to drive you back in memories *you didnt have* is astonishing.
The animations were incredible in that scene. I don't have the words to describe it. They just nailed it. The emotion it conveyed with the stylish flashbacks, creative shots amd music. It's just art
You know exactly what's happening and you understand what's going on so perfectly and it's all visual storytelling. You can see that both of the characters know what's about to happen, you can see it on their faces. It's so masterfully done.
This show has one of the best character developpements ever. When he was first introduced, Silco was mad at Vander for trying to stop him from waging war against Piltover, and denying "the Nation of Zaun" only because Vander cared too much about his supposed daughters. And ten years later Silco literally does the same thing. That's why he sat in front of Vander's statue when he was considering it. Also in the first episode Silco says "Power comes to those who would do anything to achieve it." and in the last episode he says he wouldn't have given up Jinx no matter what, not even to achieve the power he always dreamed and worked for. It's these details that make me truly admire a show.
This is a great contrast between Silco and Singed. Singed would sacrifice anything for progress, his line "I too once had a daughter" when he was saving Jinx sorta signifies that he is the ultimate extreme, willing to sacrifice anything
@@sineowl443 his locket looks like another character in the show. a kind of...... living magitech clockwork android, who used to be a very sick, living girl. but it is entirely possible that he could have put his dying daughter into the pink dragon thing as a means of preserving her. maybe it leads to magitech body?
@@taddad2641 Orianna never appeared in the show outside the possible image of her in the watch. Although it’d be very hard for Orianna to be Singed’s daughter as the father already had easy access to Hextech similar to what we have in current time period league lore, which isn’t a thing yet in Arcane.
what makes it better is that act 3 scene parallels the first meeting of the two, and that quote was the contradicting line of viktors "if you wnt to change the world dont ask permission"
"I never would have given you to them. Not for anything. Don't cry, you're perfect." Goddammit Silco made the whole world get in their feels with that shit.
@@SSD_Penumbra Nope, this show's timeline is set before that. That's why Noxus wants to weaponize the Hextech but probably won't get it so they'll turn to Zaun, find Singed, and ask him to weaponize Chemtech, which will bring us to Singed making a gas poison for the Noxus to use in Ionia.
@@itrymybest1 Don't even need to look that far, the show starts with Vi and Jinx's parents being slaughtered by the Piltover police force. We get Silco using chemical weapons, and the show ends with Jinx nuking the government. Plenty of war crimes to go around in Arcane.
From studying boxing, kick boxing and muay thai. Jesus christ Vi's combos are so realistic and soo perfectly executed that it puts some amateur boxers to shame.
Exactly, Im a lifelong student of the sweet science and damn after the combo's she was making I was an instant fan, damn Vi was such a badass. The fight scenes are such a pleasure to watch that it puts live action movies to shame tbh. Plus they added emotional depth to it.
Oh, for such a company to have a life destroying game to have a series that is an absolute masterpiece especially on how they handled Silco and Singed.
i still think that league itself isn't the problem, as it's issues are inherent to online team games. riot is amazing at creating their world, and the game is a great way to bring interest into it
i sometimes play league of legends and i didn't destroyed my life. its about how much you care about things that doesn't deserve your attention. and i think games in general can be really dangerous in your low points so yeah show slaps anyways
The thing that impressed me most about Arcane was that the show wasn't scared to be Visceral. There are moments that will and are designed to make you uncomfortable. From Powder's screaming fit in episode 3 to the child cracking on the ground in episode 8, this show is not afraid to turn it up to 11 when it needs too. It's been a hot moment since an animated show has had the balls to show me dark things to indicate something's fucked, and I'm really happy that Arcane is willing to go that extra mile to make the story impactful.
I'll disagree with you about "not afraid of turn it up to 11" because they made the show on a PG13 basis. Not saying that this is a problem, but that it could be a lot more bloody if they made it PG16.
@@RutraNickers There was enough blood. The show knows when to be visceral and when to restrain itself. You don't need piles and piles of blood to get a point across, it's just as impressive if you DON'T use piles of blood. We didn't get to see Craggor's head blow off but we certainly knew exactly what happened.
I also appreciate that the villain felt like a clever manipulator and schemer without everything constantly going his way. In fact, he is constantly encountering problems and set backs, which makes sense with how huge an operation he’s running and what he’s trying to do.
Not only that but the very thing causing most of his setbacks is what he loves most, he can't bring himself to get rid of Jinx because he loves her, even if it would make things much easier.
His love and loyalty to his main problem was extremely believable and made him immeasurably relatable and idk almost anti-heroic in a way. I was rooting for Silco the moment I realised he would do anything for his people, even if he had to make shit choices.
I finished Arcane today. Honestly I cannot even begin to explain how imaginative and amazing this show is. Top notch show and probably my favorite of all time.
@@JohnDoe-ry8sr not an insult. Arcane is good and all but the recency bias is showing. Its overhyped. Not saying its better than castlevania but it certainly isn't close to best shows.
@@manwithnoname8229 Sir, I do nothing but watch tv for like a decade. I've watched every DC and Marvel 2d superhero movie. This is easily the best animation I've ever seen. If Arcane was truly overhyped then the user review score should have a big disparity with critic score. Castlevania's first episode plot is just garbage. Vampire falls in love with a girl who's not like other girls. Church has her executed cos of course they do. Vampire gets school shooter mad and kills everyone. That's it. That's the plot for the first episode. You even comparing Castlevania to Arcane makes me vomit good sir.
"They don't want to kill any of their league characters" Knowing that didn't keep my heart from jumping out at the "I made her a snack" scene Also, it's probably for the better you don't know any of the league champions or the game because of this
It also gave fans of the game something to look forward to, like how their story will lead them to become the character we know from the game. (Aka Viktor and his “glorious evolution”)
@@jack90054 yeah, I'm incredibly excited and intrigued to see how the Viktor of now will come to spark the glorious evolution, and how his fall out with Jayce happens (especially since they are A LOT closer in arcane than in lore, as Jayce even calls him like a brother)
I wouldn't take for granted that they won't die some point in the future, but you can be sure that they won't die before they fulfill their final selves (how we know them in the game). Caitlyn isn't sheriff yet, Vi isn't an enforcer, Viktor isn't half robot, so they all still have a story to tell.
I found the Vi/Caitlyn relationship pretty believable tbh. Caitlyn has demonstrated she is open to change and does care about the Lanes, and has helped Vi and saved her atleast once or twice (by freeing her from prison, and then saving her from Sevika and getting her medicine). Moreover in the talk with Ekko, Vi is visibly moved by Caitlyn’s admitting she was naive about the truth and her desire to help the Lanes. The whole relationship is about how two opposite sides of the conflict can work together and come to understand one another. By the end they have gone through some stuff and can depend on one another. The time period was short but it was packed with these moments of clarity and understanding so by Act 3, it felt realistic that both developed camaraderie and understanding for each other. Both learned that the other side wasn’t “bad” as they thought, and that they could at least depend on and trust each other.
I also thought too that at the end when theyre all around the table, Vi is also super concerned about keeping caitlyn safe because if she were to die that would make her see powder in as evil, and she for sure does not want to see that.
I know that the Cait / VI is a fan favorite and obvious lay up for a relationship. Though they have known each other for about a week and i want to see some of that trust / class issues to spring up to flesh them out a bit more as a couple or even just partners in piltover law enforcement ( ekko's in game line about her being a sell out for example). I also will be very disappointed if Cait's mother ends up dying due to what happens not creating some sort of tension or resentment.
Yeah. It only falls apart because the final six episodes happen over just a handful of days (and the first three happen in less than 48 hours). But it's easy to forget that while watching and your mind just fills in the gaps that technically aren't there, but still feel like they are. That's actually quite a masterful storytelling technique in itself. I was taken out of the suspension of disbelief once or twice while watching but they managed to fill the screentime they had with stort pretty well.
One point that i think deserves more recognition is the voice acting. They did an amazing job, casting stanfield as Vi was on point but the true mvp is the VA for Jinx. I could feel jinx going insane trough her voice. 11/10
How has nobody mentioned Silco in this thread yet? Sure everyone else was amazing too, but for me Silco's voice acting was the best. His voice was so soothing and fitting in every scene.
Love how the show breaks character molds. Examples include: - Jinx being a genius that def needs some help instead of the typical chaotic villain always having a blast - Vi having streetsmarts and recognizing certain details to be clever which shows she's more than some hotheaded thug. And she has experienced lots of trauma and pressure meaning she is not just strong physically but also emotionally and mentally - Vander being practical and forward about the realities he, Vi, and the gang were facing rather than being the “I said so” type (credit to Mackie Lunkey in the replies btw) - Silco somewhat resembling a parental figure to Jinx in his own way with a high level of trust but also being conniving to the point where people argue on whether or not he was good for Jinx - Caitlyn's parents being understanding in some cases rather than following the typical rich snobby parents that only cares about image - People actually getting injured, bruised, bleeding but not overdoing it that way the fight scenes are somewhat realistic and it’s as if you can feel their pain Unrelated but honorable mention: The soundtrack, both songs with vocals and instrumental scores, are a work of art
Silco lived a life of struggle and projected that struggle onto Jinx, but he did so by being caring. He had a brother, and he betrayed him, so when he saw Jinx abandoned by her sister he saw himself, and taught her the lessons he learned by living. He was not a good father overall, but he was a good father for the city that is Zaun.
Coming from someone who knows nothing about League and loves shows like ATLA and Clone Wars, this is the best show I've ever seen. Everything about it was a masterpiece.
@@sama2086 genuinely im not a league fan but omg its amazing the story telling the characters and tbe setting are genuinely top tier not for a video game show but just shows in general I really would reccomend it
I actually though Caitlyn and Vi's progression was pretty believable. They started out (understandably) suspicious of each other but hardly outright enemies, then set out to accomplish a common goal and quickly went through some extremely dire and emotionally-charged situations together, both saving the other multiple times in the process and all around doing plenty to earn each other's trust. Add a pretty apparent romantic/physical attraction to that ("You're hot, cupcake" literally in like their fourth scene together, plus all the little cheek strokes, and the scene on the bed in ep 8) and it's not at all unreasonable that they could very quickly form a strong emotional bond. Just look at all the historical epidemics of overnight romances during wartime to see that times of crisis tend to speed things up a lot.
@@fdntrinity This, it very much felt to me that Mel was CONTROLLING Jayce for ulterior motives, even now mel is such a fucking wild card to me despite her cooperation with jayce at the end. @@fdntrinity jayce and mel, as RobbInn above me said, had FIVE years of time together, to build their relationship. But she chose HIM, she took of her family's ring, and raised her hand to approve the peace, choosint HIM OVER her mother and country.
The thing with the league characters not dying is that arcane IS actually tied to league lore, the updated one. It is very much a lore series and these characters just don't die in their stories (wich are available to read on the league universe site) but yeah arcane is a lore show but is a great lore show
Exactly my thoughts. The show is in its core an origin story of certain characters. It defends itself firmly even if we separate it from the game, but you cannot say it had nothing to do with it :)
Yeah, the first two seasons are probably going to be catching up to the current state of the world, and from there new things will be happening. But a lot of key moments are definitely pre-known right now.
Yeah I was confused when he said that and then I remember him saying he’s been sober from league for 3 years. Most people who play league don’t even know about the universe website so they don’t know about the lore being created and posted there. Common mistake but hope he reads this comment thread. 💀🤙🏻
@@artursakis8668 It ended conclusively? That ending left so much open, they pretty much have to do a season 2. And yes, season 2 did get announced about a day ago.
Silco couldn't understand why Vander would stop his fight for Zaun over his kids. At the end of the show, he was given the choice to get Zaun but he had to give up his kid. Very poetic.
Yeah, he even said (while sitting in front of Vander's statue) that he finally understood him (Vander), while in the back of the statue there was Jinx, she heard all of it (Like silco killed vander stuff) and etc (Ep9)
The emotion they expressed with just the animation of the eyes (the ways eyes dart around when someone is nervous or the way light distorts in them to create a life-like shimmer, no pun intended) is some elder god tier shit. I've watched a ton of animation in my life, but this is the first time animated characters felt so real to me (the great writing and voice acting was a big plus as well) despite being heavily stylized
@@darko1295 I really liked the subtle movements in faces. Like Jinx saying "Hi" or Powder mocking Mylo after shooting the targets. Caitlyn and her mom subtle signalling each other, stuff like that. It was all gorgeous, both when subtle or when exaggerated.
@@darko1295 Seriously. I can't get over how good their facial expressions were. During the first few episodes, before I had gotten used to it, I was just amazed at how emotionally effective practically every fucking expression was. It's the little things. Like, during the first two minutes of the show, I audibly noted how great that little gesture Powder does when she sees her dead parents is. It's so small, her sort of averting her eyes and clutching her big sister, retreating behind her a bit like she's almost hiding from the sight. And her eyes look up to Vi, like she's looking towards her for how to react, and her eyes glaze over. Then she starts crying as Vi sobs. That's SO fucking realistic. THAT is how a child reacts in such an overstimulating, traumatic environment. A thousand mediocre stories have does this exact same scene, a thousand great ones have too, but they'd have Powder start bawling immediately. It was so, so much more effective to show the mind-numbing shock and to show the subtleties of her reaction... _all without dialogue!_ Fucking incredible.
JINX. Never played League. Never read up on lore. Never did anything related to it. Watching her progression from act 1 to 3...like..Holy shit. And Silco thinking she was abandoned and taking her in and truly loving her and just FUCK I NEED MORE OF THIS SHOW

In Arcane pay CAREFUL attention to the emotions and the eyes of the characters. They put PAINSTAKING ability into these emotions coming across as real. Some of the best facial expressions Ive seen in animation. Hats the fuck off to the team.
@@thealessi For real. The absolute terror and pain in her eyes felt so real and it made me feel so incredibly sorry for her. The emotion and motive behind every action of every character is so amazing and so well executed. They really went all out with this show and I’m so glad they didn’t hold anything back when it came to displaying emotion.
Absolutely true. In the scene when cait and Vi laying on the bed together, you can see minor drifting in cait's eyes while Vi's are steady, shows that in that moment they have different feeling and cait are focusing on Vi, then she actually touch Vi to comfort her.
Silco was one of the best villan characters I've ever seen. You don't like him, but you love him. Arcane does an incredible job of showcasing the most important rule of writing: Show don't Tell. The art style and animation really is incredible. I was hooked from the first minute and before I know it 6 hours or so passed lmao
@@tasya_nabila pathetic ending to his character is one of the main reasons. He's a stereotypical villain, having a girl who he sees as a adopted daughter which proves to be is ultimate weakness. His dialogue is rather cringe and clunky at times. Honestly the dialogue in the whole series was rather bad. Gave off an impression that it was meant for a younger audience, typically teenagers and young adults. Also the characters were mostly young as well. Lastly, if you compare Silco to some of the greatest fictional villains of all time, you'll find that Silco does not stand shoulder to shoulder with them. I mean y'all need to consume more better fiction if you're calling him one of the best.
The animation during Jinx's insanity moments peticularly stand out to me, with the scribbly chaotic images n' shit, they were genuinely stressful at times and really complemented her character.
The one thing everyone I've spoken to agrees on, whether they hate league or have never even played it, is that the animations and lore has always been phenomenal and far better than the game ever could be. I'm glad the people behind those finally got their time to shine in a long form medium.
Idk, league is a great game, regardless of all of the hate for it. There's a reason it's been so popular for 12 years. Yes there are games where you get stuck with toxic teammates, probably at an increased rate than most games, but it's all chat box (no hot mic) and can easily be muted! Each match is like a mini chess game so obviously people are going to have different outlooks on how to play that state of the game (which is often where to arguments stem from).
Man, these are two very specific replies to a thing I never said? I said the animations and lore are far better than the game, which is just objectively true. I never said the game was bad, I've been playing since like Season 3
@@KDA_SIMP they defined should explore more of that on Arcane, but a series focused on them individually in one specific story to each of them would be awesome

They're going to be using Arcane in classrooms for years to come, this series is a master class in writing and excellent animation. Bravo to studio Fortiche, they knocked it out of the fucking park.
Silco being scared, making mistakes, getting angry, mixed with his charisma and many successes kept him as competent and dangerous while humanizing him as the series went on. He's become one of my favourite villains ever incredibly quickly.
@@djomla9999 Yeah I was really surprised that the dude was breathing heavily, nearly pissing himself after Savika made her move. It made him human, a man using the cards he was dealt with.

[SPOILERS] * * * When I saw Powder getting ready to help out I totally thought she was going to save the day and everyone would walk out happy and fine. Seeing her kill her best friends and being responsible for the death of her “father” is brutal. It’s not what I expected and I was literally in shock the rest of the day after watching that.
@@gf408 I know right and can we also mention the expressions and detail are glorious. I have cried how Powder cried. When she says "she is not my sister anymore" and we see her eyes bloodshot from all the sobbing. It's ugly, it's good, I love it!
I don't see much people talk about it. But the cinematography should also get amazing credit. Almost every scene is a painting in it of itself. Alot of the big action song and tension scenes have the smoothest fucking transitions I've ever seen. Not to mention the composition and constant iconography and symbolism in each scene.
the CONSTANT play with eyes, the sides of people's faces that are showing, the "human" right eye and the "monster" left. Silco's scar out of sight when he holds Jinx. Vi turning and showing us her right side monster eye when we first see her in the cell. Jinx's one lock of hair hanging in the way of her "human" right eye. There are loads more examples - these are just off the top of my head.
Every scene is composition is at least shown twice, to give a constant reminder of what the specific character has gone through and experienced. Give for expample the jinx bar scene.
EXACTLY, couldn't agree more! Nearly every scene has a tear away, fade, burn or color matching transition. Seriously, for something animated to have camera awareness at this level is very rare 🔥🔥🔥
When you talked about the pacing and with vi and caitlyns relationship being rushed I was actually thinking of ekko and jinx’s friendship as kids, and overall everyone’s friendships as kids. I wish they had more of that
Hmm yeah. But i think putting flashbacks with him would lessen the reveal of Ekko being the Firelight leader. Plus there was almost a strict "rule" that we got no flashbacks at all from Jinx and Vi. I do hope we get that in s2. Ekko and powder flashbacks (from Ekko's perspective) And jinx and Silco flashbacks.. But hey, we got q bit of Ekko and Powder moments in the Enemy Music video!
@@Crystalitar I wasn’t even saying flashbacks, just saying in those first 2 episodes more of them being friends. It probably would’ve ruined the pacing tho. I just always find the enemy music video very interesting how much it shows them as kids
Bruh it really is a shame for powder and ekko cuz you can see more of their childhood together in the frickin imagine dragons music video of the show's theme song.
Yeah, I thought I will get some impact when they fight at bridge. If the kid phase Ekko and Jinx have few more screen time. maybe the scene itself that didn't work for me, it's amazing scene tho. Or I'm just stupid because vibing with the music and have no idea what happened
Victor was my favourite character by a mile, his story is so incredibly well built, started from nowhere to wanting to save the world at the top echelons of Pilt, with the ultimate goal of bringing good to the world rather than getting caught up in the glitz and glamour of the city and his character in the game in general is freaking cool. Also I feel he isn't appreciated enough, without him, Jayce couldn't have gotten his research off the ground and his research would have probably taken longer without him, honestly Victor is a legend.
Jayce worked on hextech for what probably years and couldn't even stabilize it, viktor chimes in and fix it in a matter of days Viktor is just a fucking chad
Not just the villain. Honestly almost every recurring character in this show had depth to some degree. They all had motivations and they were all struggling with their own morality and principles.
even singed had enough sense of morality to sedate that one character before that one thing happened bc he himself had a daughter. was really insightful.
Even marcus who was a coward and corrupt thought about his daughter in his last moments. He was doing all these things so Silco wouldnt hurt his daughter
The only character that doesnt really have that much depth was sky. She was introduced for victor and killed as a plot device for Viktor. Even Marcus had a character development.
Regarding the spoilers section, I thought Vi and Caitlyn's relationship was developed perfectly. They never hated each other, idk where that idea came from. Vi isn't the type of person to hate somebody just because they come from Piltover, especially someone who freed her after being imprisoned for years
Yeah I thought it was done well. It wasn’t rushed. From the start Vi is antagonistic but opens up when she realizes Caitlyn genuinely wants to help, and cares about the Lanes. Her life is also saved atleast twice by Caitlyn. There is a foundation of trust there. They only knew other for a short period, but in this short period they went through a ton of eye opening events that displayed both of their true chatacters and helped to facilitate that loyalty and camaraderie between the two.
i agree, they never hated each other, they just didn’t know each other and had bias towards the others identity. like of course vi wouldn’t like an enforcer after an enforcer killed her parents, and caitlin simply wasn’t taught right about the undercity. throughout their relationship, they had plenty of banter that eventually turned into friendly jabs. it wasn’t sudden at all to me.
They didn't really hate each other, they hated the idea of someone from the other side. Once they got to know each other a bit, they were able to see past the caricature of what they imagined the other to be like.
A fun thing about characters feeling "un-killable", during an event way back in 2015 (I think) League of Legends they actually killed a character named Gangplank and disabled him as a playable character in the game for a while. Makes me confident that there shouldn't be too much plot armor and excited to see what comes next.
gangplank doesn't die only mf thinks that he dies after she blasts his ship so only when u see from her pov hes dead but he survives and goes to illaoi to show him the truth of that sea god thing lol characters dont die and i think thats alright, it didn't ruin my fun from watching arcane
@@mrinchantubeI'm more-so referencing their bold decision making in 2015 directly in League itself when they decided to completely disable him from the game prior to what we know now (Ruined King and additional lore drops) about Gangplank's fate which we only learn about more years later. At the time, they had fully committed to the story they had woven, even if it meant messing with people that mained the champ! Riot themselves said "“Champion death is unprecedented in League of Legends and we do not take it lightly.”
one thing i absolutely loved about this show is how the characters are all basically morally grey. everyone’s got blood on their hands and it allows the viewer to relate better. riot did so good.
Over the last few years, Riot has really been sanitizing Jinx, toning down on her violence and the evil of her random crimes to make her a more palatable brand ambassador, so I was really impressed that Arcane is *not* afraid to have Jinx kill people. She kills a *lot* of people.
Dont want to sound like RIOT paid me or something. But there was scenes in this series after which I had bad time sleeping because i could not stop thinking about them.
spoiler but the ekko and jinx fight scene on the bridge was some of the coolest art shit i've ever seen in an animated show, there are other scenes that give the same vibe but that one really stands out
I’ve never felt so emotionally attached to fictional characters in the same way I got attached to every single character in this show. It really shows how much life the characters are given- their facial expressions, body language, voices, and their stories really make them all their own person and it shows. I finished watching arcane a few days ago now, but last night I saw something that reminded me of a particular character death brought me to tears again without even really trying, and without actually rewatching the death scene. I was reminded of the actual pain I felt knowing said character was really gone. This show is special. ( for those who’ve seen it, “don’t cry you’re perfect” for those who haven’t seen it…. Vi and jinx were the real stars of the show for me. Both characters felt so real and seeing their relationship go up and down was so interesting. What an incredible show. I wasn't expecting this from riot.
They aren’t killing the characters because the show is cannon, the show does lead into where the characters are current day in game so if a character dies in the show how would they be in the game, I did like how the gave decently valid reasons why the characters who should’ve died have not died, especially jinx, she’s alive but the process has completely pushed her over the edge and destroyed whatever was left of powder
Yeah that's why I'm not really upset league characters had plot armor in Arcane since it was all a prequel to current day lore. On the other hand though I hope with season 2 (if it's current day which I'm pretty confident it will be) they take risks and do kill off champs if it makes sense in the story.
@@herculet Killing off a character isn't viable because it would break all semblance of lore adaptation. They are covering a timeline where these characters are alive, they fill in some blanks and alter some aspects for creative expression / easier story telling, but the results will more than vaguely resemble the lore. @@stratus- yea I mistook lux with Camille I haven't played league in years, I realised after I made the comment and was to lazy to change it I guess it also retcons some of Jayces lore since he never invented hextech in game but its pretty minor compared to Camilles retcon, although fortiche has said Arcane is not canon so I doubt it matters anyway
It's literally not possible for them to have killed off any League Champions in Arcane yet, this is a prequel. We already know who they became, this is just showing what shaped them.
Not exactly "completely canon", but yeah - most of the stuff is on-point. Hextech wasn't invented by Jayce and Viktor in the original lore. It should have been invented a loooong time ago. Some other things were a bit different, like Jayce and Viktor's relationship. But generally speaking - Yeah, it's mostly canon.
@@barrel5168 What you said, yes. The lore was made when they were just starting out I'm pretty sure, so obviously wanting to make changes to lore would come with being such a long running franchise that wasn't expecting to be this big when they first started.
I know exactly the scene Charlie is talking about, that scene with jinx and the firelight leader literally gave me goose bumps. The music and the scene together just absolutely blew my mind.
Ekko vs Jinx was my favorite fight scene but I'm a bit biased. Ekko's lore is what got me into reading the rest of leagues lore and them foreshadowing his ult was cheeky
"3 years sober" - is the perfect, just so perfect wording. Nothing describes my craving for LoL (that I hated so much while playing) after years of being sober from it. The high of that epic win, the need for that epic win, it's literally like a drug.
The silco jinx relationship is so beautifully and toxically crafted. He's a Terrible man who used jinx for his purposes and grew feelings for her as a father. She shouldn't listen to his words but he was the only person "there for her".
Idk when she kept sitting on his lap it was weird. I dont understand because jinx doesnt really return that. It was digusting for me to watch it honestly I didnt like any of the scenes with them.
I don’t think there’s anything sexual between them. Jinx is just very childlike obviously, and hasn’t really mentally aged all that much from when he first found her. It’s likely shes just been keeping up her childlike tendencies, and he’s learned to accept it. Their relationship is anything but romantic.
silco never used her for his purposes the reason he adopted jinx was because he saw what happened between her and vi and it reminded him of what happened between him and vander
A relationship between Silco and Jinx is surprisingly heartbreaking. even tho there are some sort of manipulative and abusive behind the scene, but in some sense, This two still connected to each other.
Right?! I was genuinely surprised by that. Their closeness. It seemed they were both broken people who connected to one another - although in Powder/Jinx's case it was through manipulation on Silco's part. I think he probably developed some kind of fatherly protective feelings towards her that surprised even him. It's an interesting dynamic that first made me furious then I was kind of sad about how it ended?Only great writing/voice acting can do that.
@@EllawoodBlues I honestly feel like he didn’t try to manipulate her much at all, I think he saw himself in her, vander turned on Silco the same way vi turned on powder, she even says it wasn’t silco that made jinx it was vi, and especially in that last scene you see how much silco really cared for her. They built up this father-daughter relationship over like 5 episodes and I think it’s meant to show how genuine it was, despite the fucked up circumstance that started it all
For me it was really tragic and jarring. They play that game like they did when they were kids having fun, but then we cut to reality where they're trying to kill each other. To put that into perspective imagine you and your sibling are playing cops and thieves or something, and this is the memory that plays along while you are literally trying to shoot and kill them.
The fight scene was incredible, I loved the stylization of the beginning and I loved how they represented Ekko's Ult in game instead as a memory he was learning from in a child like way, then immediately juxtapose with the real, gritty violence of actually trying to kill each other. I don't think there was a scene I didn't love in this show
The only major problem I have with arcane is that whenever I tell somebody to watch it they think I’m a league player. Please god no don’t think of me like that
@@Pepsimaximo1 considering Ekko doesn’t have his time gadget and Vi isn’t an enforcer, Warwick doesn’t exist yet, among other things, it’s pretty confirmed.
The voice cast absolutely knocks it out of the park. Silco being the big standout but pretty much everyone does extremly well aided by the outstanding facial animations that take the voice actors lines to a new level.
"You can have powder back" that line hits, to be honest, and I think I actually for a second considered the conditions for getting powder back, real hard.
My favorite character was definitely Silco Spoilers : I thought in Act 1 he was gonna be your typical creepy one eyed villain but by Act 3 they added so much depth to his character that I wasn’t expecting. I love that he actually did love Jinx the way Vander did and wasn’t just using her.
The best part about this and other twists is, they all happen naturally. By the time the statue scene rolled around, I was completely on board with him making the decision that he did.
It was actually kind of ironic or poetic(idk what's the right word) that silco kinda ended up somewhat like vandar. Sacrificing his dream over someone that he thought of as his own daughter. That part actually surprised me
God dude that scene when he's talking to the statue of Vander, realizing that he couldn't give up Jinx just like Vander couldn't give up Vi. Absolutely brilliant.
They're making something like that, it was announced back in 2020 when they dropped all their other games. Not to mention an MMORPG as well. And Ruined King dropped a few weeks ago!
Wrong about one thing: Arcane IS DIRECTLY tied in to League's lore. Everything that happens in the show is a precursor to who the characters finally end up being as we see them in the game, like Jinx getting her pink eyes, Vi getting her gloves, Singed experimenting on Vander to eventually become Warwick, so on and so on.
Vander becoming Warwick is heavily hinted at but not fully confirmed at any point. Additionally, the lore aspect is changed quite significantly since it's stated that in her original lore, Vi used Chem-Baron Mining Gauntlets to save trapped people in a mine before being noticed by Enforcers/Wardens from Piltover and had them upgraded. This is of course similar to what happens in Arcane but altered slightly.
@@lachlanwu2838 That's incorrect. Riot a few years ago had announced they were separating the lore of the rift from the lore of the world of Runeterra. If you go and read Vi's biography on their website, you'll see how closely Arcane follows it. Every champion is out in the world doing stuff, and aren't drawn into the League of Legends for one reason or another like in the OG lore.
thats a warwick quote. which is either a very nice coincidence because warwick is basicaly announced for season 2 or you did it on purpose knowing what i just wrote
Arcane is actually heavily based off of the lore, to the point that they only retconned/changed a few minor things. It's mainly just a large expansion of the story that details things we didn't know about before
yeah.. that's a lie right there, arcane it's reconecting tons of pieces of lore that league has been changing over the years, this is maybe the thirth remake of the lore. idk why people keep saying the same when the lore wasn't the focus of the game until recently and has change alot.
@@radielkill that barely made sense but Jinx and Vi’s lore has never been that in-depth… it has always just been “Vi works with Caitlyn as an enforcer and Jinx is crazy.” It has barely been explored, especially not their lives earlier on ( which this show is now filling in)
As a non league of legends fan, I wasn’t really excited for arcane, but then I started watching it, and just now I finished the whole series and it is a MASTERPIECE of animation. If it doesn’t get a second season I will be very upset!
Tbh it's better than the game despite Arcane not being a game at all. At first when I saw it on my page, I cringed. What made me watch it was the famous "you're hot cupcake" scene that got recommended to be on yt. I have no regrets at all, and I always find something to complain about. Arcane deserves more than 10/10
SPOILER ALERT: I love how the ending is mirroring what happened in Act 1: We have someone who has worked all of his life for a cause and for his people, and the moment he can achieve his goals in exchange for his adoptive daughter he realizes he's unable to let her go (first Vander with Vi, then Silco with Jinx). At the same time, both deaths are Powder/Jinx's fault and both are important moments in defining Jinx's personality and identity. Apart from that, in both situations everything would have been ok without Jinx: The kids had freed Vander and were ready to go, but Jinx screwed it up, killing them, while at the end of act 3 the council had just agreed on going the peaceful route and everyone would have gotten what they wanted, but Jinx completely fucked it up. Jinx is destined to Jinx things up, it's almost poetic
There is one problem with your analysis, which is otherwise pretty good. The peaceful route the council agree to go with was dependent upon Silco handing Jinx over to Piltover, which we know he wasn't going to do. It was going to go south whether or not Jinx nuked the council voting chamber, because Silco backed out of the deal.
Vander was never going to sell out Vi. Vi knew about the deal with grayson cuz ekko told her so SHE HERSELF called the enforcer and she was going to turn herself in. Vander noticed it and went as fast as he could so vi wouldn't get taken.
The Vander tease at the end just made me want more of this. Also would like Savika to become a champ, those laser slashes with her arm thing were dope and she'd be able to have a cool use of shimmer as an ability
@@SorakuteeYT Thats a theory about Vander being Warwick and at the end of season 1 we can see Warwick hanging from the ceiling. If its Vander or not is yet to be revealed (but its like 90% that its him)
With Vi and Caitlyn, I think the point of their sudden "closeness" is that even though they are oil and water in many circumstances, they both just wanted justice, peace, and literally just harmony. Just my opinion.
When Powder cries and sobs (both times) I felt that. The animation and the emotion in the expressions are so good. The fight scenes are good. Vi kicks ass, Jinx kicks ass. Even the baddies are cool and you can understand their plight.
@@dovade9988 I don’t think so, he can fight but what would he fight for? Zaun or Jinx? If he lose, Jinx will be handed over: but if he wins, he’s forced to give up Jinx in exchange for Zaun. It’s a gamble for him, and so he would rather see the world go up in flames than sacrifice Jinx. That’s why he talked to Vander’s statue, as a memoir of what Vander had done in the first three episodes.
SPOILERS: Silco definitely was not your standard villain. Charlie is absolutely right when he says that Riot did an excellent job with him. The two scenes that really stand out to me are when Silco takes Jinx to be healed by Singed, and when Jinx is doing her Joker-level mind games in episode 9 when she "accidentally" shoots him. Both scenes show that he thinks of her as his actual daughter and not just another hireling or thug under his command like Sevika or the others.
Moreover...the narrative sort of validizes him. He was almost able to get zaunite sovereignty, without too much bloodshed, but at the cost of his daughter. He wouldn’t have been able to make that choice though.
@@36shadowboy Agreed! He really is an integral part of the story throughout the series. And that last line of "I never would have given you to them" definitely shows his inner conflict between the cause and his family.
@@7GamesUnlimited7 It's kind of in a moral grey area for me, since part of her snapped and I felt that part of her wanted to, while the other didn't mean to do it. I dunno, it's just kind of how I judged the scene.
@@36shadowboy and at that moment he finally realized why Vander stopped his revolution. That reaching your goals while everyone you love dies isn't worth it. He tought Vander was weak, but at the end he realized you need to be strong to make such a decision.
Also "no abusive father." Yeah totally, Silco actually loved Jinx so the whole manipulating her into attaching to him and casting aside her most important relationships and doing whatever he says and weaponizing her mental illness.... Not fucked up at all
@@rileyjones6957 He never manipulated her into getting attached to him and in hindsight I kind of understand his reasons for putting so much pressure on Jinx and why he had to keep her away from Vi. All the things she pulled off on her heist in episode 4 were completely unexpected, but the consequences were clear to everyone involved. Zaun wasn't prepared for a revolution and Silco was already from the start against the idea of turning Jinx in which would've been a nonnegotiable demand by Piltover, due to her clear involvement in actual terrorism. The only way to keep Jinx and Zaun safe at the same time, was to trust in the weaponization of the gemstone which ironically only Jinx could achieve. So to keep Jinx safe he has to rely on her to save herself, which is impossible if she gets torn between Vi and Silco or - arguably even worse - getting arrested by Vi's enforcer friend Caitlyn who he knows nothing about except for the fact that she's eagerly investigating against his adoptive daughter.
Big Dota 2 person, and I gotta admit, although dragon's blood wasn't the fuckfest I expected for a dota 2 show, Arcane just was on another level, it was amazing.
Im a dota player as well but i have a great disdain for League. I find the game incredibly boring but i gotta say, everything around it is genuinely great. Their Worlds Championship always has a great music video and song to accompany. I've only watched the first episode of Deagon's Blood and I wasn't immediately hooked, is it really worth watching? I was hoping it would get really good, but i didnt have the time to jump in and find out myself
@@BapiBoozle After watching Arcane. This show makes Dragon Blood look meh. At first it was interesting watching Dragon Blood , give it a 7/10 but Arcane is beyond the scale. So not worth watching it when there a masterpiece show right now.

The sad thing is that people immediately turn down the show just because of the fast thats is an animation from a game. I gave it a try and it literally has NOTHING to do with the game, except the character from it. It wasnt made for solely fans of LoL and people who understand League, even if you never played games in your life you'd still LOVE Arcane, trust me. This show is one of a kind. There wouldve been problems if the show was called League or League of Legends or smthn
Something i highly value is the fact that it's a really newcomer-friendly show. You don't need to know anything about the game and the lore to understand the story and enjoy it. I'm sure there is some easter eggs, but the series is self-sufficient ^^
Exactly. I haven't touched LoL and I understood everything in this show and it actually made me do more research on the characters. This is the best way to make an adaptation of a long lasting video game
Also easter eggs for league players and even lore we needed for characters such as jinx and vis backstory and can't wait to finally see Victor's endgame
cuz the show doesnt really focus on the fantasy part as much its more of the characters. you could take it and apply it into the real world and it would still feel the same
@@micah459 you should watch Warwick’s introduction cinematic to get hyped for season 2. If you look closely at the end of episode 9 there’s a shot with Silco’s evil scientist guy and above him you can see a wolf looking thing. Also at the end of the season 2 teaser video they put out, they played Warwick’s theme sound.
The thing is, Riot has always released really high quality cinematics and animations, to the point where the community has been forever meming that "Wish the game looked like that". In fact, for almost a decade, with every cinematic release, it was "Wish riot made a movie or a series or something", and so, finally, they've done it, to nobody's disappointment
I didn’t touch Arcane until today, I let the hype die down and decided to watch when I’m ready because I was very sceptical. Just started watching the show two nights ago, knowing nothing at all about LoL. Even though I'm still only halfway through the first eposode, the show is really well made. The way it's shot and the musical score are my favorite parts so far. That opening was amazing.
Silco is a crazy good written villain, his whole arc is perfect. He goes form a villain who doesn't understand his brother and feels betrayed, to someone who is also a father, and finally understands why Vander wasn't willing to give up his daughters for Zaun.
I thought I disliked the guy, and wouldn't cry if he died, but I'm suprised that I did. I really thought he was just using Jinx, and manipulating her, but in the end we could see that he was genuine. His last words hurt so much 'Don't cry, you're perfect'
I knew in the back of my head that Silco was the antagonist, but act 2 and 3 Silco made me forget about it. I couldn't pick sides at all. I was intrigued and invested in every main character.
Honestly SIlco is so well written that I honestly forgot he was the main villain. Everything is the show is never black or white, there's so much depth in every side of the show and they wrote it in a way that I could understand and almost sympathize with most of the characters.
Arcane is the best show I’ve seen in a long while. The animation is crisp, beautiful, and moving. Everything in it was done so well and it’s genuinely amazing.

Well Jayce and Viktor's lore was completely rewritten. For example Jayce originally did not have an "obsession" with magic. The two also worked well before Jayce even found the crystal and they were separated long before Jayce made hextech.
I hope they wil just retcon some bios to make Arcane cannon, i dont see why it should be separate. I personally wouldnt like that and im sure many others won't either

I was super impressed by the foley work here. Seriously, the early scene where they are jumping over roof to get into the apartment. Just the wait of the sound effect when they jump down onto a beem or tightly clutch a railing. It really sold me. the fact that Silco spits at Vander for caring more for his adoptive daughters than Zaun and how Vander gave up fighting to get their own nation for his daughters and then 10 years later Silco is doing the same thing, and that *he acknowledges he's doing the same thing* because he said "is there anything as undoing as a daughter?" and that he knew right then and there he would never give up Jinx for Zaun even if he knows it's hypocritical, but that Jinx didn't understand the context so she misread it is all one huge messy beautiful tangle of emotion that really rips me up

It all feels earned too, it isn't just played for shock value.
I agree with everything you've said but theres a lot of dark animation out there... Just look at anime. Check out marai Nikki
Invincible was also great for this! Maybe better at this specifically imo

@@jack90054 yeah, I'm incredibly excited and intrigued to see how the Viktor of now will come to spark the glorious evolution, and how his fall out with Jayce happens (especially since they are A LOT closer in arcane than in lore, as Jayce even calls him like a brother)
Bro I’ve never played league or knew anything about so when I was watching that scene I was shitting bricks
@@smlgd Jinx have her shark already.....
Jinx's death on second season confirmed, fellas
Im 100% with you in this analysis.
Top notch enemies to lovers

How has nobody mentioned Silco in this thread yet? Sure everyone else was amazing too, but for me Silco's voice acting was the best. His voice was so soothing and fitting in every scene.
Love how the show breaks character molds. Examples include:
- Jinx being a genius that def needs some help instead of the typical chaotic villain always having a blast
- Vi having streetsmarts and recognizing certain details to be clever which shows she's more than some hotheaded thug. And she has experienced lots of trauma and pressure meaning she is not just strong physically but also emotionally and mentally
- Vander being practical and forward about the realities he, Vi, and the gang were facing rather than being the “I said so” type (credit to Mackie Lunkey in the replies btw)
- Silco somewhat resembling a parental figure to Jinx in his own way with a high level of trust but also being conniving to the point where people argue on whether or not he was good for Jinx
- Caitlyn's parents being understanding in some cases rather than following the typical rich snobby parents that only cares about image
- People actually getting injured, bruised, bleeding but not overdoing it that way the fight scenes are somewhat realistic and it’s as if you can feel their pain
Unrelated but honorable mention: The soundtrack, both songs with vocals and instrumental scores, are a work of art
Well, while Vander was a classical type of father figure for Powder, Silco had more of a DDlg going on with Jinx...
you know what was beautiful? Silco wanted to burn piltover down, but when he got a daughter (just like Vander got kids) he wanted peace
-Also, Vander expressing honesty to Vi and being frank with her rather than being the usual disapproving, stubborn "because I said so" dad archetype.

The thing with the league characters not dying is that arcane IS actually tied to league lore, the updated one. Exactly my thoughts. The show is in its core an origin story of certain characters. It defends itself firmly even if we separate it from the game, but you cannot say it had nothing to do with it :)
That's exactly what I was thinking. I was so confused when he said they only took the characters from league and made an original story
Yeah, the first two seasons are probably going to be catching up to the current state of the world, and from there new things will be happening. But a lot of key moments are definitely pre-known right now.
Yeah I was confused when he said that and then I remember him saying he’s been sober from league for 3 years. I loved the facial expressions and body language in this show a LOT.

I don't even want to see their encounter after Jinx fucked everything up
I don't see much people talk about it.
Give for expample the jinx bar scene.

even singed had enough sense of morality to sedate that one character before that one thing happened bc he himself had a daughter. was really insightful.
Even marcus who was a coward and corrupt thought about his daughter in his last moments. He was doing all these things so Silco wouldnt hurt his daughter

Well technically Vi did have a dislike/distrust for enforcers. but that quickly melted and they formed a very deep bond.

That was probably the exact part that made ekko my favorite character so far

@@Syorbic There's many, but from which medium? From books, I'd probably pick Judge Holden from Blood Meridian. From tv shows, Walter White or Lorne Malvo. From Movies, Hannibal Lecter or Heath Ledger's Joker. All I know is they and many others are all far better written than Silco who reminds of Askeladd, a great anime villain but a bootleg version of him.

As a sibling, this show absolutely wrecked me emotionally. It still almost hurts to think about the show but I can’t wait for a next season
I was super impressed by the foley work here. Seriously, the early scene where they are jumping over roof to get into the apartment. Just the wait of the sound effect when they jump down onto a beem or tightly clutch a railing. It really sold me. The world just feels so real because so much attention was paid to every little thing. Love it.
