This is amazing steam action and being able to follow the two locos like that is something we just cant do in the UK where i live. God i need to visit Australia one day!!
3801 is a true beauty of a steam engine, one expects steam locomotives to be strong, muscular with a lot of pulling capacity !.....3801 has added beauty and grace to that list as well !....Thanks to the pure labor of love put in by its volunteers we are able to see it in action today !!!
What a fantastic video, its rare to be able to watch sustained operation of the valve gear, just fascinating. Particularly as we have just been finalising the valve timing on 01.
What great video and how nice to see the valve gear work8ng in all it glory. Always fascinated by the rocking motion of the combination lever and the radius rod.
Not wrong, great bloke that is sorely missed. Was a pleasure to chat to Ian on brief basis when he brought 01 down south to the Riverina in the early 2000's R.I.P. Ian Thornton.
The real heroes of this trip are the firemen. For those who don't know, the grade is in 33 or 3% and the 38s are said to be the largest hand-fired locos in the world.
WOWEEE! Amazing filming. In G.B Permission would never be granted to cover filming from this unique filming, mobile platform. Hee! Hee! Loved watching this. Take Care & Stay Safe everyone. :-) :-)
I think I can , I think I can , I think I can , I think I can , I think I can , I think I can , I think I can , sorry , had to do that . And later , I knewIcouldI knewIcouldI knewIcouldI knewIcouldI knewIcouldI knewIcould . Our beautiful Old Steam Loco's singing their Song . EXCELLENT Video .
Seeing 38s preserved so wonderfully reminds me of the tragedy of the destruction of the streamlined Victorian S Class Pacific locos in the 1950s. Such a pity we can't see a 38 and an S Class meeting at Albury as they did for many years.
Magnificent footage of these awesome NSW steam locos going up the grade. Beautifully filmed, lovely Australiana scenery. Is the 3830 likely to be restored so that this can happen again?
I would assume the Hi-rail is running on a special form of track authority and hence need not obey the signals within the area of that track authority.
I think that after the floating crane Titan sunk on a scrapping trip to Asia, there is nothing big enough in Australia to load or unload such a heavy load onto or off a ship.
Many belated thanks, for a truly brilliant video. More power to your elbow, from this late comer.

Great shots, love that sound, nice to see some old machinery working hard.

I've always wanted to ask someone, how does one set the valves on a steam locomotive?
So great to see the first and last members of this class paired together.
A classic steam video...thanks for putting it out on You Tube.

Good to see the late Ian Thornton on the regulator of 01. Such a big grin.

Best steam video I’ve seen, thank you!
Brilliant video, especially with both 38 class loco's, 1 streamlined and the other one non streamlined

I think you will find the LMS Princess Coronation class have a larger grate - 50 sq.ft vs 47 for the 38.
What a great Video , Thanks Bevan !
Magnificent. Camerawork and sound recording are excellent and I swear that I could smell and taste the coal dust👍😋
I love this I would like an hour long one of just the train noises

Excellent video, camera vehicle is right along side them.

Great video.
MAJESTIC
Smashing that power out 😁
BEAUTIFUL
3801- she seems to puff out of steep banks inclines; is that usual normal?
Love it.
3801 looks so different
Love that sharp exhaust beat from a 38 working hard!
All the 'Top Link' Drivers...
I wonder why it took 2 steam engines? That's a lot of power! The locomotive in green brings back the images of golden age Superman cartoon :D
They are 4-6-2's - only half the mass is on the driving axles. On that gradient all the power in the world ain't much use if you can't get it down.
How are you filming them?
Loved the video. Just one question, what happened to the waratah it proudly carried?
Rather brilliant !
How could you dis like this vidio ?🤷♂️ seein that walcharts valve gear in motion was awsome!!!
Steam engine is very beautiful journey when start steam engine train in india,
I wonder how they record side view video? Running?
toyota land cruiser 4x4 maintenance vehicle that has fold down rail wheels .
Thats what we have in Victoria Australia.
Poor spotters (such as 2:06) get Their shot ruined by a Hi-Rail vehicle in the foreground...
I doubt if they bought a ticket !!
I guess that red signal he ran at 1:40 doesn't mean anything important, like STOP?
The signal does not apply to the track they are running on.
I would assume the Hi-rail is running on a special form of track authority and hence need not obey the signals within the area of that track authority.
I dream of 3801 doing the reverse of 4472 and visit the UK for a year, it would be awesome.

Russell Moore oh dear :( I likely wouldn’t fit in British loading gauge anyway.
wouldn't fit the loading gauge
when side by side how on earth is that being recorded?
If you look near the end it shows hes in a trackwork truck i think
