Love your videos. Taking some time to view prior trips to prepare for my journey of Rt. 66. You give a great perspective of the towns and uniqueness in the areas. Safe travels!
I remember back in 61driving thru the Needles area in a 48 chevrolet. It was so hot we had to roll the windows up to escape the"blast furnace"winds.🗽🗽🗽🔧🔧🔧
I make sure my gas tank is full before entering ca. The cost of gas there is the result of free stuff! , and that free stuff is going to get paid one way or another.
Your argument is nonsense the gas tax goes to pay for a lot of different things 9.5 billion to Highway repairs and maintenance 4.6 billion to enforcement and regulation and a general fund to include Department of Agriculture and state parks there are also other miscellaneous expenses but it's not free stuff and I'm guessing that the free stuff that you're referring to is probably what Social Security Medicare investment in education those are things that we paid into over our lifetime working.
@@bobbyquinn7871 I suspect the 4.59 per gallon in Needles isnt just the gas tax. While Cali has the highest in the nation at .61, Illinois has the third at .55 and our gas is 2.99 as of today on Gasbuddy. So im sure part of the high price is a combination of other taxes city, county.
They have a something like a 40 mile poker run each year at Pirates Cove for side-by-sides, thinking of taking my RZR their for the next one, place is pretty awesome.
🙋Hello Russ! I really enjoyed seeing the towns & sights on route 66. Oatman was a neat little 'ol town. Those wild burrows are sure friendly. The Colorado River is really a large body of water? I wasn't sure what to expect in Needles, it was more developed, bigger town, nice. Stay cool! 🙋
I lived in California for 35 years before I left 20 years ago. I’ve trucked all over the country in the last 38 years. I always referred to Needles as “Needless”.
The drone sure seems to give a steady platform to shoot Ariel shots? Great video appreciate the effort. We accidentally took 95, instead of 93 back in October. Ended on I10 just east of Yuma 95 had a lot of construction being done by California, lots of delays. Wasted about an hour due to the error. Didn’t get home, El Paso till 1 am. Went again in January didn’t make the same mistake twice lol. 93 is being worked on and will be I8 in the near future. Thank you.
Needles has the all time record for heat 125 degrees 6/20/17. Then on 8/13/12 a thunderstorm deposited rain with a temperature of 115 degrees, hottest rain 🌧 in world history, outside temp was 118 on that day. Thank goodness for the Colorado River. Safe travels to you and stay cool 😎
Love the drone footage of the area. The color of the water looks nice also. Saw gas at 2.19 yesterday here in southeast Texas. We have had high temp here also and my yard is getting to look like straw. What is new to you we both are experiencing. Thanks and safe travels.
Hi Russ , was just talking about you. I had traffic control on Main Street Tue, Wed. Stopped by the book store and found out the owner died May 7. Look Fwd to seeing you in Q again.
Pretty new subscriber here and I like your videos very much. I like your talking throughout video and your laugh cracks me up. I’m from So Cal and spent a good amount of time in the desert areas that your filming. The “Great Colorado” is an old friend and it’s always good to see her. Thanks!
Howdy Russ. Like Ric G. said who is that guy always waving to the drone. Did you see the crow sitting on the stop sign. I thought I heard it say “Never more, never more”. Boy it is still hot there in Needles at 9:18pm Pacific Time, 98F.
You can bet locals cross into Arizona to buy fuel, just a short drive across the river and save huge. I like US 95 to save time, and avoid the traffic in Havasu. My first trip through Havasu was in 96 on my Harley and there were a handful of stoplights back then, the same with Bullhead City. Now it is like the traffic lights are rabbits and breeding like crazy. My last trip I was loaded down with firearms and went to Kingman and across heading back to Montana. No sense in scaring Californians. My Uncle Suds loved to see my latest purchases. My next rip down I will avoid California all together, not worth the hassle anymore. Too many roads down there from Montana that I have not been on before.
Little known bit I found in a book by Ellen Meloy called The Anthropology of Turquoise. On the same turn off to Pirates Cove, if you go the opposite direction and into the area where all the gas wells are, there is the remains of a Native American Intaglio that can only be seen from the air. On the ground, it looks like windrows of rock, and in her book, Meloy states the majority of the intaglio was destroyed to make I-40. But, originally, the figure pointed up toward Spirit Mountain (aka Christmas Tree Pass) up by Laughlin. My mom and I walked the windrows but we didn't have a drone so we could only guess as to what was left of the figure and what it might have looked like. I understand you can walk into Grapevine canyon around Christmas tree pass from the Laughlin side, so might be worth checking out sometime.
You missed the Topoc Resort on the Az. Side. It is just the other side of the tracks a short bit. Not as big as Pirates Cove but they have boat as well as truck/RV and car parking. No hotel yet but it's in the works.
Hey Russ, how are you doing after your long journey? I hope all is well with you. When You and Scubby first stared your UA-cam channel, I commented to you about the Pirates cove / Park Moabe, I have had a river house their or I should say a mobile home, for years now. I wanted to get you to come down and do a little piece on Park Moabe / Pirates Cove? but I didn't hear back from you. With the whole Park Moabe / Pirates Cove thing? I personally call the little river resort by it's real name "Park Moabe" It has always been a little hidden jem? Well" until the company that purchased it re-named it the "Pirates Cove", they sunk a ton of money into the resort and just made it expensive, not to bad as water resorts go I guess? Its owned by the same company that owns the other Pirates Cove down by Parker. At one time I almost purchased the little bar / restaurant and the little store, which would have been a nice little money maker for 6 months out of the year? But there was a big problem with the liquor licences and some back tax issues with the sellers family? It quickly turned into a big mess and I had to pass on it, which I regret? But thats life. I would have just loved to own those facilities, it would have been a very fun business for my family and I. The plan was to open up another R.V park and a few other things, but it wasn't ment to be. Park Moabe itself is owned by San Bernardino county which includes the R.V park and boat launching facilities, marina ect.. A few years back the county spent a million and a half to upgrade the boat launch and bathrooms, the boat launch is quite large and it's very nice with lot's and lot's of parking for your trucks and trailers. Also the shower and bath facilities for the R.V section of Park Moabe is very nice also, one of the best I have seen "really!! Well Russ that's about it. Thank you so much for taking us all on your journey, I was awesome my friend. I always look forward to your videos for sure, they are always very entertaining and it seems that I also gain a lot of great information about a certain area that I did not know about before. You are kinda like the Huel Houser of the R.V world. Take care Russ. Hawk out!!
On the map outside Needles where lists attractions and one is the Goff Schoolhouse🌵🌵🌵 My Grandpa Jim is the one who rescued that from ruin and he hand dug the water lime from the UP water source near the tracks clear to the schoolhouse. His portrait hangs in the museum. Just an old Retired Navy Chief/Cowboy who worked and did what he could to keep history from disappearing. He and his wife made it their home for many years.
Boy that place sure has changed. I been through there several times. But first time was in late seventys an there was nothing but one service station an the sign said last stop for gas or water next 157 miles going west. Hot an wind blowing sixty miles an hour guy said that was a common thing.
Love your videos. Taking some time to view prior trips to prepare for my journey of Rt. 66. You give a great perspective of the towns and uniqueness in the areas. Safe travels!
A lady friend and I went out west last fall. I like Blythe and Needles. She didn't and left. I shall return, I am sick of Florida.
I can't physically experience these ventures, thanks for letting me ride along with you, enjoyed it very much.
I've been to Needles! We ate at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant on Route 66 and stayed at the Days Inn there.
Makes me more excited to do my Route 66 Road Trip in the Spring 2021. 😎🤗👏🏼. Thank you for the narration & drone views.

Love the drone shots so I can see the area!
That Pirates Cove looks inviting. Great video Russ.👍👍
Its ironic how Arizona is just as expensive as California now. That was only reason most people live in Az.
Thanks for showing me the Route 66 area! I enjoyed the tour. Waving 👋👋
Never get tired of 66................Thanks....
Thoroughly enjoyable road trip. I can see America from the comfort of my own armchair. Kudos from Australia.

It does get hot in Needles. I drove through there when it was 114 degrees.
Great job...planning a Rt 66 trip next year, love your stuff !!
Nobody who lives in Needles buys gas in Needles. Those stations are for the tourists. We just skip into Arizona for $2.35 gas.

Me and my dad use to go there to camp every summer when it was known as Park Moabi.

In the middle of July 2017 gas in Needles gas was 4.99 a gallon. About had a stroke glad I filled up in Kingman Az. Be safe and have fun.
Get your kicks on Route 66!
You have given me a hankering to go drive part of old Route 66 while I still can. Thanks Russ, until you are better paid! Dave
Fantastic video Russ!!

Love pirates cove...there are about 80 rv sites with full hook ups right along the river...really nice camping along the river
Just awesome. Would love to travel and site see. Thanks for your drone. ❤️

Drove through Needles last March when gas was only $4.29! Gps sent me to an overpass that was only 8 feet. I,m 10 foot 7 inches!!!!
Great vid Russ, do you have a detailed map of the route you took up through the North East? Thanks bro.
I used to live in El Centro calif. I worked in the heat. I always liked Needles, unless was over 119, !
Needles! AttaBoy! 🌲🐿🌲
Great Route 66 series Russ. We never get those temperatures in the UK ;-)
Nice drive today. ☕️🍩👍
Russ, what kind of drone do you have? We really enjoy the drone shots. Thanks, Stan & Gayla

10:14 Oh my Gosh, you finally said it. These are cracks...But I haven't seen such serious cracks in Roads. These should be properly maintained...
Those are the old roads from pre-freeway days. They fill in the cracks. It can get into the 120's . . . my childhood hometown!

Hey Russ
In all the westerns I grew up watching there were Forts out there in the desert. Can you show us some if there are any left? Please
they were probably just sets, and destroyed when filming is over. Not always, but usually
@@oxtuckian Don't think so. There are documentaries of them being on the Organ trail and such. I'm pretty sure some are still standing.

Two years ago I paid 3.25 for petrol (gas) near LA airport, looks like the price is still climbing.
No win by the Colorado River that's a rarity every time I go there it's windy
Needles wants to be part of Arizona...and should...
Hi Maybe this has been already ask, what is the brand and model number of your drone? It takes some great recordings. Thank You.
The wife and I just drove thru there. We also went to oatman.
A train within first minute.Yay.
Hi from Laughlin ... Welcome.
Too soon (hot) to be back in the Southwest desert. Russ, you didn’t stay in the Northwest very long.
Looks like Needles is a dying town. A lot of vacant lots that were never rebuilt. Thanks for the great videos Russ!
i have not been there in a long time
US = Universal Strength. US is amazing.
Are they strict on checking the stickers and registration on the ATV?
If it was in Ca.,it would be named Butt Pirates Cove. With a flag and everything
Pirates Cove is in California
