      If you can find a none service fuel station it can be cheaper again. I recently did the same as you. The cheapest I've seen two weeks ago was 1.15 a litre euros

      If you do eat out, do so where locals go, NOT where tourists go.
      If you drink wine, buy it in the self fill bottles in Supermarkets.
      It is actually cheaper than bottled water and very nice too.🍻

    Spain is just amazing. I walk around Pamplona, San sebastian and stay das in those places. San Sebastian have the best pintxos(like tapas, but more elaborated) in the world! 😁 Also, after Tokyo, San Sebastian have the most Michelin stars places to eat per capita. Have a nice journey in Spain.

    Van life is the perfect life/lifestyle for introverts, I agree! 😆 I do like to dip into community to get my social fix, but I love doing my own thing much of the time. Hitting a space like that with no other vans is the jackpot. Great video & insights.

    Beauty spots like lakes/mountains in France/Spain are usually great park ups for the night as day trippers leave about 5/6pm so the car parks are then quiet. Wonderful for evening walks and then waking up in a quiet, scenic spot. And nearly always free. Or car parks on the edge of villages, set aside for campervans: clean, peaceful and a short wander to get your breakfast, and again usually free. It’s wonderful to tour in countries which encourage people to stay overnight. Enjoy your trip, from a new subscriber.

      @@TheCuriousCollective_OfficialI totally agree about putting the UK to shame. We've just stayed at 2 different farm CL sites and they were £22 a night! That's not sustainable for us pensioners. Both with ehu granted, which we didn't need. One had clean, grey and black water, no toilets or showers. The other had full services. But still. Europe really is far more van friendly.

    Which way to park your van.....?
    Park it facing an exit in case of needing to move in an emergency
    Or at least Not having to do 3 point turns etc.....
    Not wanting to cause you fear, simply peace of mind.

    A very very helpful and insightful video, thank you! I’m going back to France and Switzerland next year and I’m going to order a toll bird! Which you can put in your window and pay for digitally as I’m right hand drive and it’s help, apologise if it has nothing to do with the video, but you have absolutely beautiful hair just had to say sorry 👍🏻 PS air fryers use hardly any power at all! May I ask what power are your lithium batteries? I’m yet to buy some about what ah to get. Was also meant to say if you go with EE they have a contract called Roman & go further! You don’t have to pay for Roman at all anywhere in the world world I’m not too sure how much the contract is though I’ve got this information from, the urban motorhome! Which is a brilliant channel on UA-cam very helpful

    • @TheCuriousCollective_Official
      @TheCuriousCollective_Official  Місяць тому +1

      The toll bird is a good idea if you’re going to do the toll roads. I have winding windows so climbing over to the passenger side and manually winding it up and down is a faff.
      I don’t have lithium batteries unfortunately, I have 2 x 95 ah batteries that came with the van. I do plan to upgrade and have done some research. I think I’ll need 260 ah lithium batteries in total as a minimum.
      I looked at a few UK networks for roaming, but most limit data in the EU to 25mb. Tesco do unlimited but only until Jan 2025.

    Another great video. I am very envious of your journey! I walked across Northern Spain following the Camino de Santiago last year. It is a beautiful region of Spain. A couple of suggestions, consider parking your van in the direction of the exit so you can leave quickly if you feel unsafe. Read up on the city or village you are heading to - especially the history - it will make your visit much more worthwhile. Pamplona for instance is the home of the running of the bulls. It has a lovely historic old town in the centre - as do most larger towns & cities in Spain and they are a must see. The camera function on Google translate is your best friend. Use it in the supermarket and for reading menus etc. Buen viaje!

    • @TheCuriousCollective_Official
      @TheCuriousCollective_Official  Місяць тому +1

      No, quite the opposite actually. Most of the vanlifers I have come across have been in not so subtle motorhomes. Maybe that’s the time of year though. It can get colder at night so an insulated van is more popular in the winter.
      I can see a benefit to car camping in the warmer months. It’ll mean you can get park ups easier when it’s busy too. And, you’ll find shade easier. Some car parks are covered in order to provide shade but, my van won’t fit under them.

    • @theobotha1009
      @theobotha1009 Місяць тому

      @@TheCuriousCollective_Official yes, it can get cold, but I’m putting electrics in. I only have a Renault Scenic, but doing with it. I have a power station, but it also has to be charged, especially if using a heater. Not fond of gas in a car. So put a solar panel on the roof, had some spare parts and a lifepo4, so installing that as well. So would be able to be off grid for quite a while. Really looking forward to try it out in a couple of weeks time.

    • @TheCuriousCollective_Official
      @TheCuriousCollective_Official  Місяць тому +1

      Yes sadly. The 90 day rule is a real pain. I plan to be back in the UK for Christmas so that’s within the 90 days this time. I’ll still have a few weeks left so, in the new year, I can use them to travel through the Shengen zone to countries that are not in it. Perhaps Morroco, or I might go the other way down to Albaina or Turkey.

  • @pjgwiltshire
    @pjgwiltshire Місяць тому +2

    You do not mention the size and type of batteries. You have a 2000w inverter that will eat your batteries as you start using 240v items. Do you have a B2B. This charges your leisure batteries faster when driving along.

    • @TheCuriousCollective_Official
      @TheCuriousCollective_Official  Місяць тому

      I have 2 95 ah batteries, they are not lithium unfortunately. I also have a mains battery charger but not a B2B. These were already in the van when I bought it. I want to upgrade as soon as money allows, the batteries especially. Luckily I don’t use many 240v items (yet 😂)

    • @pjgwiltshire
      @pjgwiltshire Місяць тому

      @@TheCuriousCollective_Official Just be careful using the inverter . You only have 95 ah available to use and the inverter will cut out when the voltage drops on use. So you will find that when the batteries are full you can use the inverter for hairdryer. If the batteries are a little low the dryer will cut out as the amp will go past 50%
      To change to Lithium with all the required changes will cost around £1000. Until Lithium you will not get away with Air fryers and the like

    • @TheCuriousCollective_Official
