- In 1999 The Stormers were the premier side in South Africa and played some brilliant rugby. They went all the way to a home semi final where they lost to The Highlanders, but it's fair to say that the Stormers played the most attractive rugby throughout the season.

This video took me back to primary school. These were my heroes. Imagine seeing Bobby, Breyten, Slaptjips, Percy, Corne Krige, Toks etc... All legends. I don't think Braam missed a kick all season.
What a team! Legends. So many great Sprigboks in one team. Unbelievably, this team only made the play-offs - and only once!
Skinstad, Leonard, Brink, Corne Krige, Boome, Visagie, Van Der Linde, Van Zyl, Van Straaten (and Koen), Rossouw, Daniels, Marinos, De Wet Barry, Fleck, Paulse, Montgomery etc etc.
I had season tickets for Newlands on the Railway Stand that year and ‘98. Good old days for WP and the Stormers.
Dont know where you find your footage, but your videos are and have been amazing. Deserve 1 million subs. Please keep them coming.

Dude, this is the best video I've seen all year! I remember this season so well. I was in grade 8 at the time and had broken my ankle in two places - the Stormers performances (bar the semi-final fiasco) was the only thing that kept my spirits up.
As a born and bred WP/Stormers fan, I dream of one day watching this brand of entertaining rugby again, sadly though, I don't think I ever will.

He was forced on to the wing, to make space for Percy Montgomery, Pieters best position was always the fullback.

@@moosa9850 Justin Swart was moved to fullback and Rossouw to left wing by Harry Viljoen back in 97...slaptjios use to give my brother nightmares when he decided to counter attack when he played fullback 😅😅😅
Those were the days when kids used to watch the Stormers because they were the Stormers, not because they dressed up like Marvel superheroes!

Newlands has such fantastic crowds then.. on average had the highest attendances per game in Super Rugby …sadly Western Province rugby is moving to Cape Town Stadium.

Ek het daai jaar Boland o/13 gespeel en ons het 'n paar keer voorwedstryde vir Boland se senior span gespeel. John Daniels was by die Stormers vir super 12 en terug by die Boland vir die Currie cup - dit is mos hoe die streek stelsel gewerk het. Hy was die ster van Wellington en ek het ook nog altyd gewonder of ek sy Stormers drieë weer êrens sal sien.
Rugby used to be way better back then now the referees are making the game soft
