I'm a 50 yr old man and felt my inner child was seen. That was my childhood, playing with Star Wars figures, random lightsaber fights with friends, and even the hilarious nightmare that is the Star Wars circus. Even the concept of taking shortcuts through the woods and finding abandoned junk and thinking it could be lost treasure.
That's cause you guys are old and unwilling to give new things a try. There is so much more to Star Wars than 80's nostalgia. We could literally have a new Jedi Order right now, and some villains who are a threat.
@@Infamous1892 no, it's because this was just good. It had nothing to do with nostalgia or memberberries. Acolyte could have been great, they tried something new, I thought that was horrible.
Guys I loved it, it nailed the childlike wonder. It was legitimately really funny, I loved how they made school and the adults as square and as terribly boring as possible, like how kids imagine adult life to be. It had a genuine sense of adventure and really took me back to what it was like to be a kid, especially a kid that loved Star Wars who used to play lightsabers with my friends. Legit got me teary for some reason it got me good. Protect these kids at all costs. It's great there's a show for the kids. Adults that only want Star Wars to be dark and gritty and for adults are selfish since they fell in love with Star Wars as kids themselves.
Pretty solid first two episodes. Nothing crazy but way better than acolyte overall thus far. The mystery with their home planet has me pretty intrigued
This show is very cool, it feels like if tomorrow morning we wAke up inside the Millennium Falcon in hyper space without knowing where your going. From the first 2 episodes I feel like that it is a easy approach for new coming Star Wars Fans.
When Jod made his entrance then it got interesting. It's literally Goonies meets Ferris Bueller's day off meets Stand by Me meets Stranger Things. Ferris Bueller's day off with the scene with Wim and Fern scene paralleling Sheen and Grey scene in the end of Bueller's day off. The suburban life in the Star Wars galaxy looks really amazing.
As someone the same as you Coy, I put Andor as Top Tier Star Wars. I absolutely loved these first 2 episodes of Skeleton Crew. The world building and characters fit so well. Love this story so far of these kids figuring out there is way more to their universe than a suburban house and school. A naive innocence expanding to a new reality. A perspective from kids that we haven't truly had in Star Wars.
The first few minutes of the first episode revealed that even though they will reference Goonies alot, this movie will be a love letter to "Treasure Island/Planet" and Jude Law's character is Long John Silver, and I wonder if we will run into some Rebels characters (if timeliness allows)
Lore, I guess, but it did say at the beginning of the first episode that this was taking place in the New Republic era (around the end of Mandalorian). The Empire was no longer what the Empire was in the original trilogy, changing ovwr to the First Order. Also, the werewolf pirate was a species first seen in A New Hope at the cantina. Lastly, one of the pirates is Vane, the same from Gorian Shard's crew in season 3 of The Mandalorian.
Solid review, Coy! Really digging the show through 2 episodes, can't wait to see where it goes next! Oh, and... Jod is Captain Silvo right!?... riiiight??
I'm getting the feeling their planet is hidden by The Barrier and it's very disconnected from what's been happening in the main SW storyline. That's why the pirates think the planet is a myth. That's why they have mint condition Old Republic credits. I found it interesting that he had a book of Jedi versus Sith but it seemed "old"/lower tech; considering the Empire stamped all references to the Jedi, it doesn't seem possible to own something like that... *shrug" Just a " stab in the dark" theory so I'm looking forward to how this unfolds. 😊
You didn't miss any lore. This planet is a mystery, insolationist planet. I'm very curious how they seem to have hidden away from the rest of the galaxy. I love the cast. I can't necessarily relate to them as well as I'd like, but I think that's because I'm at a point in my life where I'm relating more to the parents. Even though I'm still an engineering student, I definitely relate more to Wim's dad than any of the kids. Haha. I can't wait to see where this series goes. It's been fun so far.
Enjoyed this very much. Appreciated your balanced (and positive) perspectives on the Sequels which most UA-camrs have only vitriol for. After Acolyte I wasn't even going to bother with this series, but now I will. Thanks, subscribed!
I had the pleasure of viewing the eps at a local screening so got to enjoy a communal watching experience. Was happy to be in the midst of people who clearly appreciate Star Wars and were open to what this show has to offer. Fun so far. Liking the mystery behind their planet. Am looking forward to seeing where they go from here.

I'm 55 and when I was 12, my friends and I would leave the house on our bikes early Saturday morning and not return until dark. We'd explore other neighborhoods and meet up with other kids and their friends. It was fun. I notice that kids today don't do that. They're more focused on 'indoor adventures online' and have a lot more parental supervision. Sorta sad.
Yes, I see what you're saying. I didn't feel very connected to the characters either at all like to me. The force jedi, that's Star Wars, and I didn't really care about the kids that much, but.... I really enjoyed the first episode because of them. Finding the ship The severity of the father realizing his kid is past that barrier, realizing that there's this world that is hidden away, tucked away and outside of it. It's piracy, and like I just really remember feeling like Whenever the credits rolled I was like. What? That's it I was very excited and then the second episode really amped it up. I felt exactly what you felt like the pirate Lord. The severity of the situations More fluid movement between the alien characters I feel like. You said his name a million times I know his name. I'm not looking it up. Because I want to remember it, but the director watts tim watts, maybe I love that. He directed the Spider-Man movies. I love the Spider-Man movies. I love Spider-Man. He and Batman are my 2 favorite superheroes. They're tied for 1st for me. The best superheroes have the best villains and Batman and Spider-Man have the best villains, their universes and That, to me, makes a great comic and a great show. But back to this, I really like the second episode. I know exactly already who Jude Law is and I don't think and I don't know he's a jedi, but I don't think he is, I just think that he either uses the force or he might have had some kind of magnetic. Fielding, and that's the first time they left the key out because they forget about him because he's the pirate leader. Yeah, you can just tell to me anyway. The one that they robbed the ship at the first and it had one credit. And then the fox character, the black fox i don't remember his name, but like he was the guy in the mask, and he was their pirate captain, and it was survive or die. And that's written on every pirate ship, and they're lost, and there was the goony moments like with the skeletons, and it does work for me. And I hope to see it grow. I am with you on the fact that andor And rogue, one amazing The last show you mentioned the name of it. I watched it all. I hated it. I thought it was terrible and it was so over budget, so out of the realm of Star Wars into witch's and I understand there are witches in Star Wars. But it just didn't work for me at all, so I agree with you there. And I loved the first trilogy, I really liked the first episode, but I then quickly realized of the sequels, so episode 7. I really liked it at first, but then I quickly realized, "Wait a minute." This is just a copy and pays version of a new hope, and then they actually kind of Screwed with the story in episode 8 brian hmm, Johnson, I think, is his name that directed. It changed things up quite a bit. A lot of people hated it but I think it needed to change from a copy and paste. But then they went right back to copy and pace for return of the jedi, and made ray palpatine's daughter ridiculous, but anyway. I really did enjoy the show. And I enjoyed this review, so thank you
I hope I'm wrong here but I feel like Jude laws character is the pirate captain with the mask on in the first scene . He's going to be this cool mysterious guy that helps the kids . Builds everyone's trust . Then plot twist he's a bad guy . Just in it to find their planet for the richest and take his crew back Please be something different
(If someone doesn't want potential spoilers (based on speculation), don't read it to the end. I liked what I saw. I'm hoping it won't be wasted, because I was open on the first 2 episodes of The Acolyte, but on the 3rd it went down, down and down to me... Wow, you mentioned Andor, Last Jedi, Rogue One and Solo... haha Ok! I like Rogue One and Andor. Solo is almost ok, but the plot twist doesn't work for me, because those guys killed Rio and Val, so Beckett would never forget them, nor should Han... Last Jedi is almost ok too, but that part on the Casino planet doesn't work for me, nor the random code breaker. Also, to me, the sequel trilogy was wasted by their third chapter. I don't like the prequels. And I'm with Denis Villeneuve: Ewoks derailed Star Wars. There should have been Wookies on that planet. I hope Skeleton Crew will be a good show. I'm enthusiastic about it still. As for my (potential) SPOILER thought: do you think it's obvious that the masked pirate captain if the introduction of episode 1 of Skeleton Crew is Jude Law? To me it's as obvious as the fact that Carrie-Ann Moss would die in episode 1 of The Acolyte... (Not everyone saw that in the trailers though...)
You should read Darth Plagueis. Libby or Hoopla should have it. Star wars is a Universe built to house a certain type of story telling that can go anywhere, but has to hit the right beat. This Universe a wide diversity in the novels and comic that create both Canon and the Expanded Universe. I loved the prequels growing up, but I tend to not go back because I fear seeing flaws with an adult mind. However, the story and heart of Star Wars is in the enjoyment of and personal opinion you form, not other people. Love your take. I saw some clips of superman and Lois season 4 Finale, is sad and joyful
I want to ask, would most people enjoy this even though they did not watch the Goonies? I mean I dont think I have liked let alone remember watching any media that is a group of kids discovering the unknown type of thing in general so Im unsure if I would enjoy this show
It’s just a fun space adventure following kids as they deal with pirates. It’s very fun, and yeah anyone over the age of like 8 or 9 can very much enjoy this show, no matter what they have or haven’t watched besides this.
I liked the episodes quite a bit! Im willing to suspend disbelief as to the weird planet, whilst we uncover exactly whats going on. I have theories but theyre giving out just enough to get me to think and theory craft without revealing the whole thing... So far. The planet seems like its trapped in time. Everything is almost Orwellian or Big Brother-y. The non-questioning droids handle all security and teaching of kids. The whole population seems indoctrinated in working towards the great plan. So much that they all just want to work the most menial jobs to help keep the status quo. It kinda speaks to the question of what would happen to a society run by ai and or advanced enough to not have to worry about typical himan hardships. Star Treky in a way. BUT we have seen that both Fern and her mother seem to be able to manipulate things on the planet more than most. Fern knows how to override her house droid. Her mom is using her power to make sure Fern is head of class. The Illusion of meritocracy. Fern's mom mentions the great plan is helping keep the Republic safe. But which one? The New Republic... Or the one that was overthrown by the Empire? Wim has mint comdition Old Republic credits. The planet is surrounded in a barrier that has kept them from leaving or even seeing the stars in the sky. My mind with to Rogue One and Scarifs shield gate. Which literally kept everything in and out. The red dots in the sky seem like some type of camouflage and or defense seystem and or communications jamming. The droids said no starships can enter or leave. No on knows about the planet. At least by its internal name. Theres definitely more to be revealed. I think theyve dropped enough breadcrumbs to create interest without completely laying it out.
Every time I read people's comments about TLJ, they don't seem to care about filmmaking and screen writing. It's sad that some Star Wars fans are just Star Wars fans, and not really movie fans. They just didn't like story points in TLJ, but don't care about how great the directing and editing was in that film. They hate how TLJ answered the questions raised in TFA, but don't see the inherent issues in those questions and that the movie addressed those issues in an honest and creative way. They don't see that TFA was just a remake of ANH and TLJ attempted to free the Star Wars films of its original legacy and move it into a new phase. Instead, The Rise of Skywalker was made and it is one of the worst things I've ever seen. There were cool visuals, costumes, art direction, CGI for sure, but the editing and script was so horrible, I barely felt it was an actual movie.
George Lucas famously said Star Wars was originally made for 12 year olds, and this show made me feel like a 12 year old kid again. My favorite characters so far are the freaking adorable Neel, and Nick Frost as SM-33 or as I’m calling him One Eyed WALL·E my new favorite droid.
I liked it, it felt innocent and indeed nostalgic. I just think they overdid the parts where you could recognize stuff. I mean the suburbs, bikes and the school bus are nice, but a bit too on the nose and too obvious. And a bit ridiculous how a planet in a galaxy far far away, would look like 1980s earth.... Same with the pirates. The robot that walks like he has one leg, the gigantic pirate hats on the space craft.... it was just a bit too much for me, it took me out of the show. Because it was so obvious and forced. I can understand kids might like those parts, though. But even then, it could have been a bit more subtle, without diminishing the vibe. Also, kids these days don't play outside, ride dirt bikes or go on adventures. We did. So ironically, this show is more aimed at older audience and tapping into their nostalgia, instead of newer audience - hence the 1980s buddy kid adventure references.
This is Star Wars for adults born in the 80's. I wasn’t born in the 80's so the nostalgia has no effect on me. This feels like someone wrote their slice of life fanfiction and made a Star Wars show. Where are the Jedi? Where are the Sith? Why are we following these kids? I don’t wanna watch the goonies. I don’t wanna watch Stranger things. I wanna watch Star Wars. You know the Galaxy far far away, not 80's suburbia.
I wonder what time frame this show is taking place. The deal with their planet is interesting, the fact that no one thinks it’s real. Why would that be? Why would a pirate ship on that planet? Possibly looking for the treasure. Hopefully these questions will be answered in a fun way. So far go good. It’s kids, but it has some real world violence.
I think they went through a gateway. Or the ship is modified for time travel. But somehow it was left behind after so many years. Whatever happened after the opening battle. It leaves a lot of questions. All of the pirates only know the kids' planet as a fairytale of legend. Timey wimey wibbly wobbly
I wasn’t looking forward to this show at all. Maybe it was just cuz after the acolyte, but my expectations for this one were basically in hell. I gotta say I loved the first two episodes. I especially loved the pirate droid. I’m shocked. Right now this is my 3rd favorite show. Andor, Mando, then this one. And I really liked Ahsoka. But if it can keep the quality at the level of these episodes it’ll top Ahsoka for me by a lot.
If you think that she was flying then you have no idea what you are talking about. Leia was using Force Pull. An established Force power that George Lucas himself came up with.
Im a massive star wars fan, however I hate Disney star wars. I don't think i'm going to watch this show. Ive been disappointed enough and I'm not needing a new star wars show right now. Maybe in the future but I doubt it.

And I enjoyed this review, so thank you
It’s dare I say fun? Think about it in these terns: everyone fought the Empire to protect this story and its characters.
We all think Jod was that ‘captain’ in the first ep yeah?
SM 33 is a droid version of "Pop-eye"
SM-33 is literally Smee from Peter Pan
I hope I'm wrong here but I feel like Jude laws character is the pirate captain with the mask on in the first scene .
He's going to be this cool mysterious guy that helps the kids . Builds everyone's trust . Then plot twist he's a bad guy . Just in it to find their planet for the richest and take his crew back
Please be something different
I think it was obvious for everyone.
Ive completely tuned out of disney star wars totally forgot about this coming out. Oh well
SWoonies never say die!
You'll lose more over loving The Last Jedi than anything else. LOL
Don’t need / want people that don’t understand opinions
@CoyJandreau It was a joke, man.
If there ia somenthing that definitely work in the space ia Goonies.
Thank you for defending TLJ ❤🎉
Always and forever
@@CoyJandreau couldn’t freaking agree more! TLJ was the slap in the face Star Wars fans needed and Lucasfilm cowardly backtracked.
😎
This show has lots of potential. I agree that ep 2 was better than the first. Hot take: Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo could cross paths with this show.
I like that SM-33 is read like Smee, another pirate reference (from Hook)
The mean girl really is gonna teach the young generation it's cool to lie and be cruel at others expense.
Bro, sometimes its not that deep 😂
Bro, live as surface as you like 🤷♂️
This is Star Wars for adults born in the 80's.
It’s just sometime between the events of ROTJ and TFA.
The show takes place in the Mando era.
Wim is Greg and Neel is Rowley
I wasn’t looking forward to this show at all. Maybe it was just cuz after the acolyte, but my expectations for this one were basically in hell. I gotta say I loved the first two episodes. I especially loved the pirate droid. I’m shocked. Right now this is my 3rd favorite show. Andor, Mando, then this one. And I really liked Ahsoka. But if it can keep the quality at the level of these episodes it’ll top Ahsoka for me by a lot.
Disney needs a hit, and this show isn’t it.
This show is a bit too kiddie for me, but glad kids are enjoying it 😊
you didn't connect w/ the kid reading 'comics' about Jedi?
Yeah, turned off after your love for TLJ. Almost destroyed Star Wars. I walked out the cinema when Leia started flying. Final straw that moment was.
If you think that she was flying then you have no idea what you are talking about. Leia was using Force Pull. An established Force power that George Lucas himself came up with.
@ turn it in mate. The whole sequence was terrible and did a huge disservice to the franchise.
Good :) saves us both the time
Nope. Didn't like it at all. Kids in shows are just annoying.
SW is less and less interesting for every thing they release.
Im a massive star wars fan, however I hate Disney star wars. I don't think i'm going to watch this show. Ive been disappointed enough and I'm not needing a new star wars show right now. Maybe in the future but I doubt it.
Won't watch, will wait for Andor
This show is great your opinion on Star Wars means nothing to me i have more go read your comic books
Then why are you here?
It was bland, boring, and not well written or acted.
It's yet another continuation of rip-off crap from better movies.
