im a 32 year old man and was absolutely giggling during Skeleton Crew. it really did make me feel like a kid again. also the little elephant kid was hilarious.
Honestly, just these first two episodes are higher quality than ANY of the other Star Wars shows since Mandalorian S1. Even if it’s for kids, I am just loving loving loving this show SOO much more than kenobi, the acolyte, and most of the mandalorian. Andor is really up there too imo but this is just really fun.
I'm 51 and this show is near perfect star wars. I felt ET vibes. I can't name one thing that wasn't good. The dialogs make it even better. They really say something and not the over serious crap from previous stuff. I watched both episodes 3 times in 24 hours.
I loved how they did the opening text, it was like the intro to an old sci-fi comic. That style should be the standard opening for any of the Star Wars shows.
The first episode alone is much more better than the acolyte series overall, and the 2nd eps left me wanting more by the end It's like Star Wars mixed with the Goonies, E.t., Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan and John Hughes
I thought that looked familiar! Isn't that the one Lumpy was watching? (Another weird thing about that special is that Boba Fett is seen in a "fictional" cartoon and yet he turns out to be a real person!)
This show was the Star Wars show I was least interested in. It surprised me, especially for being a kids show. Enjoyed the first two episodes. It's cozy, adventurous, and joyful. Will it stick the landing? I guess we'll see, but just like Andor I had no expectations and have been pleasantly surprised so far. More like these 2 episodes please, Disney!
Best easter egg for me was discovering the biker bully character is called Bhonj Phalfa which is taken from Harrison Fords character Bob Falfa in American Graffiti - that's a seriously deep cut. Loving the series so far.
Loved it - In the future this will be the perfect entry point for kids to get into Star Wars. I saw Star Wars when it first came out, I was six, and I fell in love with it. If I saw this show when I was six I'd have the same reaction. Finally a show that adults and kids alike can enjoy (much like the original trilogy). You can tell that the makers of it grew up with Star Wars and want to create that same magic they felt.
The answer is sense of wonder. No "we gonna change everything you know about the jedi", no "sad old man Obi wan", no depressed Ahsoka. Just what has always worked with Star Wars. Sense of wonder, thats what worked even in Force Awakens, we had Rey, new to the wide universe, spark eyes, amazed with the jedi, with everything. Something that they immediatly throw away for the sequels. Star Wars needs a sense of wonder, of mistery, good mistery, not "everything is horrible" mistery. Even the darkest movie of the original trilogy had a sense of wonder. A city in the clouds, an old wise master that do jokes but hides an immense power. Yes, now and then is good to change a bit, with Rogue One, with Andor, but those moments should be the exception not the rule. I hope they keep this tone and the series is a hit and disney finnaly learns that about Star Wars. We dont want everything we know about the jedis to be change, we want heros, we want a samurai, a gunslinger in a western. We want adventure.
I had 0 expectations for this show. I even forgot it was out (thanks internet)! I'm kind of afraid to say I liked it because they screwed so many things lately. Being 80's kid I'm afraid that people who didn't grow up with E.T. or Goonies will not get the same vibe from it. That it actually works for me because of the same key elements Stranger Things S1 worked. Excited to see where this goes but also kinda sad the only way they can keep us hyped is "hey, you get the same feeling as watching Goonies and E.T. but in Star Wars"...
I felt like Fern was channeling Charlie Sheen’s cameo in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when we see her sitting on the bench seats outside the office & the dad seriously was reminding me of the dad from The Neverending Story in the first episode at the start of the episode!
At first I wasn’t sure about it. I thought it was gonna suck. I just finished watching both episodes and love it. It was different and now I’m hooked. Hope the whole season is like the first two episodes.
What a surprise this show is so far! Really liked the premiere episodes. Hoping the show doesn't go off the rails like a lot of Disney + shows do. Hoping this turns out more like Agatha and less like Secret Invasion.
At Atan seems to be compeltely unaware that the Republic gave way to the Galactic republic, then the empire and now the New Republic. This means they have been separated from the galaxy for at least a 1000 years.......MUST. KNOW. MORE. On another note, I sat down with my wife and kids last night (12 and 9) and we all loved every frame of the show. It was such blast. Cannot wait for more.
Oddly enough, episode 2 didn't 'feel' short - or too short. I felt like we got an awful lot. I didn't realize how short it was until you folks brought it up. That counts for something.
Sean Chandler gave The Skeleton Crew a glowing review yesterday as he’s seen the first three episodes. I guess you can say TSC is making up the disappointment from The Acolyte so far. The keywords are “so far.” I haven’t seen it yet. I did watch The Goonies last night to prepare myself from getting in the mood…. *The* *Goonies* *(1985)* To me, this is a grade A kids’ movie that still holds up. I keep forgetting Robert Davi is in it. Between The Goonies, The Sandlot, Super 8, and Stranger Things, The Goonies is the closest to how kids talked in the 80s. How they dressed. Closest to capturing my childhood nostalgia. The Sandlot came out in 1993 but was set in the 1960s. Super 8 was JJ Abrams’ tribute to Spielberg’s movies like Close Encounters and E.T., was set in 1979 but was released in 2011. Super 8 is probably the closest to the look and feel of The Goonies. Kids around 1979 did banter like that. Then Stranger Things is for Gen Z but I don’t believe it captures the 80s as well. The technology they have is way beyond what the true 1980s had. Don’t sleep on Flight of the Navigator (1986). Another charming 80s kids movie. The Goonies came out in 1985, the story was written and produced by Steven Spielberg, and it’s the essential 80s kids movie because it’s not traveling 10-30 years back. That’s how they talked and dressed and it was released in the decade it represents. I remember thinking as a kid, what the hell is a goonie? Isn’t a goon a bad person? Now I just think of a goonie as a child adventurer. A young treasure hunter. My favorite Goonie is Jeff Cohen’s Chunk. Childhood obesity! Jeff is a skinny guy now and grew up to become a lawyer. Is Ke’s lawyer. He’s the funniest Goonie followed by Mouth and maybe Data or Bran. “Is your mommy home?” “No, she’s down at the market to buy Pampers for all us kids.” But the best line came from Data…. [watches goons carrying a BODY bag into the back of a car] “I’m wondering, what’s in the bag?” 🤣🤣 Better than the booby/booty traps line or his $50 dolla bill. I listened to the DVD commentary in the early 00s, and both Martha Plimpton and Kerri Green, egged Ke to say it again. That wasn’t intentional to be funny. I know Ke was kinda getting mocked for that line, but he was kind enough to say it again. I was watching Scrooged (1988) for the first time in my life last night and recognized an actress I had seen before. Then I watch The Goonies right after and realize it’s the actress portraying Bran and Mikey’s mom! I didn’t know she passed away already in 2015 from pancreatic cancer. RIP to Mary Ellen Trainor Josh Brolin obviously had the best acting career out of that Goonie bunch. A new generation now sees him as Thanos. Then Cable. And in the DVD audio commentary done in 2001 when they’re all sitting there and watching it next to the late Richard Donner, he’s actually quite a funny guy. He’s very witty. The most grown up among them all as Josh was born in 1968. Kerri is actually older by a year. My Favorite Goonies 1. Chunk (Jeff Cohen) 2. Mouth (Corey Feldman) 3. Data (Ke Huy Quan) 4. Bran (Josh Brolin) 5. Mikey (Sean Astin) 6. Andy (Kerri Green) 7. Stef (Martha Plimpton) Hey, no diss to Martha as Stef. She’s also quite hilarious in the audio commentary. Ashley from The Boys reminds me a lot of Martha Plimpton. Kerri Green got more beautiful as she got older. She’s 57 and maybe passed her prime, but she was still hot in her 40s. Her other big movie was Lucas (1986) with Corey Haim and Charlie Sheen. I love the story of Ana de Armas telling Jimmy Fallon not recognizing Ke Huy Quan from The Goonies the first time they took a selfie. The Goonies weren’t the original kids gang. It dates back to Our Gang aka The Little Rascals back in the 1920s. But The Goonies remains timeless even nearly 40 years later like Back to the Future is. There’s a certain magic from the 80s that will never go away for future generations. “Hey you, guys!” “Goonies never say die.” “I’m wondering, what’s in the bag?” 🤣🤣 “The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough” ua-cam.com/video/Scu81EW4UC8/v-deo.htmlsi=FX_8fE815Xq287oP Four waters. Is that all? No! I want the veal scalopini. Shut up Mouth. I want a good fettucini alfredo. I want a bottle of fettucine, a 1981. The only thing we serve is tongue.
I loved this as well. Watched it with my niece who’s 15 and she loved it as well. Neel was our favorite character. The other’s were great but we loved Neel.
The kids' casting is great, I wasn't sure when the first reviews called it a "Spielberg Star Wars", but the execution is top notch (I would prefer less Spielberg though) and elephant sidekick came straight from the Spiderman. Very pleasant surprise
Just don’t look at the run time and it shouldn’t be an issue - I never look at the run time and it’s never once bothered me. Just left me wanting more which is entertainment 101
I think At-Attin is the Republic's Mint, from clone wars era. The barrier, I'm guessing, is a planetary cloak. This is why the pirates remember ot as a treasure planet, and why the kids have shiny new coins.
@republiccommando1463 I'm hoping not Old Republic as that would only male sense if it is only centuries, era before High Republic as example. I think Old Republic should remain like Legacy; thousands of years old. Edit: to clarify, if thousands of years, lost to time, why do they have clone era credits (I believe)
@@sterlingarcher5698 that’s true, I didn’t even consider the fact that the credits they were using had the galactic republic logo on them. I wish it was older though so the mysticism around it was built up like it being a lost civilization, but no matter what, the concept is super interesting.
I didn’t enjoy the trailers for this show. Maybe this was because of my hatred for the acolyte I was ready to throw the towel in with everything to do with new Star Wars content. Maybe this blinding my judgement on the trailers for skeleton crew. I watched the first two episodes this morning after the good reviews came in and I immediately clicked with it, the show was so captivating and entertaining that I couldn’t stop smiling all the way through the episodes felt like I was back in the world of Star Wars with a unique twist on it. The characters are great the story is really good the vision and writing are really strong. But also how it’s directed how it’s set up it does so many good things I really hope it can keep this up and almost become a sleeper hit like Agatha with fans
@ Agatha was a great show that no one asked for no wanted and no one would give it a chance until it actually came out and people started turning their heads and watching it, skeleton crew feels like it’s going to be the same thing but for Star Wars I hope I’m right because it deserves to do well with audiences it deserves high praise and lots of viewership like Agatha got
@@crypticghost6810 I hated Agatha. First episode as police procedural had me interested but after that garbage. I liked Wandavision but pretty much nothing else on Disney+ . Agatha was the worst of them all.
I liked it quite a bit, but I do think it will suffer the same flaw as most of the other Disney+ shows. This really feels like it should have been a movie, which I think the runtimes are a result of that. Some parts the pacing to so slow, but at other times it goes at a breakneck pace.
There is so much Goonies influence in this show, I was absolutely giddy watching this. I absolutely enjoyed the 1st two episodes. The Goonies in Space!!
I just hope they leave the 4 kids as regular kids , I hate the idea , we find out one has , surprise , surprise , Jedi powers , I hope they just leave them as 4 regular kids
I had not heard that it was compared to The Goonies, which is funny because that's exactly how I described it to my friends after watching the first two episodes. So, on-point for that comparison. After just the first two episodes I already think it's better than the entire one and only (probably) season of The Acolyte. I didn't hate The Acolyte as much as some people (though it has many problems), but this is much better. Andor is still the best Star Wars series so far though, hands down IMO. Can't wait for season two starting April 22, 2025!
Overall I enjoyed the first two episodes. I would rate the first two episodes 7.5 out of 10. I hope the show continues to get even better. I recommend watching it
I'd be careful how you label it this early on. The creators said it's featuring kids, but it's NOT a kids a show. Made for all ages like all Star Wars but I'm expecting it to have darker moments. Don't forget how brutal that opening scene was with the pirate attack.
I am going to mention, yet again: watch the breakdown videos put out by Charlie, over at "Emergency Awesome" Additionally, I would also recommend the videos on this show put out by Alan, over at "Generation Tech". That being said, so far, I am really enjoying this show. Incidentally, there definitely does seem to be something going on... underneath.
Well, it's a contained society where people are not allowed to come into or leave the planet so who knows what kind of societal rules they've concocted to maintain control.
with the amount of time it takes between seasons; won't these kids be in their mid/late teens when the next season rolls around? I wonder how they'll handle that?
Trailer showed the ship getting eaten by some massive machine, but other than that i feel like we've seen most of the trailer footage already which is great
This show is for everyone not just kids To people think that this is just for 10 year olds is complete idiot even animation is not just for kids either I’m 30 and still like cartoons and I’m in art school 😊 And watching Nickelodeon is not childish either I love loud house paw Patorl TMNT and Bluey And just so you know I’m autistic And plus I’m seeing flow on Thursday then lord of the rings on the 13th then sonic 3 tell me again that animation is just for kids it’s not And btw Kris loves the loud House like I do even Hilda
my favortie part was when they where in jail discussing how there planet was some mythical treasure planet and the kid that day dreams says thats stupid who would believe that loland im like YOU would wim ! you would
The home planet of the kids look like old republic and high republic that doesn’t fall of republic and rise of the empire and wym will found out of the Jedi are myth
I enjoyed the first episode. It was alright. I don't really care for the kids characters yet. Like I thought. Well... At least the human kid characters but Neel on the other hand. So cute! Oh my god when he starts playing Jedi with Wim 😂 so fuckin' cute. I liked the wolf like Character. I loved the cinematography lots of beautiful, wide shots. That's my shit! It didn't even feel like I was watching a show. Episode. I liked much more. Besides the part where Neel randomly falls down when the Pirates are chasing him and Wim. Wim gets knocked down they Neel is just like.... Oh ... I'll fall too 😂 But yeah other than that. I thought it was fun, all the pirate characters looked great. Seeing Fuzzball was a treasure. So overall is a pretty good show so far.
I'm in the minority but I'm not a fan of the Goonies/E.T/1980's suburbia in space vibe. Once again, Disney cheaps out on the runtimes. And we again seem to be presented with yet another Jedi that "somehow" avoided Order 66. That being said, I am intrigued by the apparent mystery of At-Attin and how they seem to be cut off from the rest of the galaxy - I hope this gets paid off in a satisfactory fashion. It does look nice, it's generally well acted & the music is good. Despite some minor story/continuity issues it was entertaining and I'll watch to the end.
Episode 1 was good at world building but some of the dialogue was pretty blah / cliche. Episode 2 helped redeem it with putting mystery front and center.
I've yet to see it. I'm going to tonight soon. I'm not too excited. I'm not a fan of following kid characters. Even when I was a kid. I've generally preferred adult Characters. Of course there's a couple exceptions like ET. The Lost Boys. Arguably the Best Vampire movie That's about it. Goonies, Stranger Things, Modern Ghost Busters Ghosts. IT ect... eh... I take that back I do enjoy the kids in the MiniSeries IT a little bit, I can stomach that. But yeah. I'm hoping Skeleton Crew with be another Exception. The main Reason I'm watching is cause of Jon Watts or however he spells his name, I love his Spiderman Movies so. Hopefully so... Hopefully this will be no different, at least... The Episode he directs 🤞🏻
I think that every bad Star Wars show has a hint in the first episode that say to us how bad the show would be. In Obi-Wan we have the terrible chase scene of little Leia. In The Acolyte we have the scene where two jedis think it is ok let a ship with only a droid crew take the prisoner. I don't think we have any hint with Skeleton Crew. On the contrary, the two episodes were very well.
"I will say this once" and then says it every single time he's talking about Star Wars on Disney+
im a 32 year old man and was absolutely giggling during Skeleton Crew. it really did make me feel like a kid again. also the little elephant kid was hilarious.
Same here and I am past 40. It just hit the right button for me.
I loved EVERYTHING in SKeleton Crew!
Probably the most accessible live action Star Wars story for kids to date. And as an adult, still very enjoyable.
I sat with my six year old boy and we both loved it
It's certainly made for 6 year olds. Unwatchable for pretty much anyone who's seen good TV
It's like what we would've gotten if Spielberg did a SW project in the 80s
thats what they said they were going for
I'm 51 and this show is near perfect star wars.
I felt ET vibes.
I can't name one thing that wasn't good.
The dialogs make it even better.
They really say something and not the over serious crap from previous stuff.
I watched both episodes 3 times in 24 hours.
Love that the droid is literally called Smee lol
My kids and I just loved it. Perfect casting through and through
SM-33 standing for Smee from Peter Pan is so clever.
I loved how they did the opening text, it was like the intro to an old sci-fi comic. That style should be the standard opening for any of the Star Wars shows.
Now that’s classic Star Wars
yes watching the first 2 episodes brought me joy and smile on my face. goonies meets explorers 80s vibe.
These episodes were absolutely fantastic. Genuinely loved them. Excited for the rest of the season
The first episode alone is much more better than the acolyte series overall, and the 2nd eps left me wanting more by the end
It's like Star Wars mixed with the Goonies, E.t., Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan and John Hughes
I was enjoying the show until the circus recording from the Star Wars Holiday Special started playing. From then on, I LOVED it!
I thought that looked familiar! Isn't that the one Lumpy was watching? (Another weird thing about that special is that Boba Fett is seen in a "fictional" cartoon and yet he turns out to be a real person!)
Finally a Star Wars project I can enjoy. I was all smiles watching this
Dying laughing at the people pissed at not being awestruck by a kids show LOL
I was impressed with the show. I really liked the score, then I saw it was Mick Giacchino. So between this and The Penguin, he's having a great year.
Just shows that when they break formulas and try something creative and new, and put passion and love into it, they CAN make good Star Wars shows
Loved it! - watched them twice already - What a lovely bunch of characters. AND the little Holiday Special easter egg was funny. ❤
I thought it was fun❤ Clearly people should take it as it is. A fun kids show
Best easter egg for me was discovering the biker bully character is called Bhonj Phalfa which is taken from Harrison Fords character Bob Falfa in American Graffiti - that's a seriously deep cut. Loving the series so far.
I can't believe you guys didnt talk about Jaleel White at all. Freaking Steve Urkel is in Star Wars!!!!

A Star Wars show that doesn’t immediately disappoint, a surprise to be sure but a welcome one.
The Droid is cool.
Skeleton crew made Star Wars fun again.
I think this World is an isolationist world. And the barrier Cloaks the entire planet.
I think Nick Frost has now already had more lines in a Star War than Simon Pegg.
Whoa! I had to look that one up: He's the voice of SM-33!
I thought the droid was one-eyed Willy. I mean he did have only one eye after all.
But no willy.
LOVED IT, finally something fresh and new.
this could be a new starting point for star wars

So a regular tv show

Gonna grade it like an o.w.l exam, outstanding.
I loved the "aliens" comment. That word just means people from other worlds. They didn't consider other species from their planet to be aliens.

That’s a solid theory. I’m thinking it might be older like high or old republic so it can be 100’s or 1000’s of years lost to time.
"sleeper hit like Agatha" . Now I can disregard everything you said before that. Unless you mean sleeper like it makes you sleep.
Glad to see you happy with SW again John. It's been a long time.... haha
I love it!!! Is Awesome ❤
You know Hondo is going to pop up if this show is about pirates
Actually, Jude law was in it for more than 2 minutes. He's the guy with the helmet in the begging of the episode. 😉 Pretty easy to tell.
Thought so too..
There is so much Goonies influence in this show, I was absolutely giddy watching this. I absolutely enjoyed the 1st two episodes. The Goonies in Space!!
Only one word to describe this show - FUN
Stranger thing mix with Gooonies 😊
The second watch through is better once your brain is over the "is this gonna suck" mode.
Love it!
What if their planet is the one from the end of jedi survivor.
Liked it didn’t love it. It’s cute and harmless, but it hasn’t gripped me after the first 2 episodes. Will definitely check out episode 3 though
I just hope they leave the 4 kids as regular kids , I hate the idea , we find out one has , surprise , surprise , Jedi powers , I hope they just leave them as 4 regular kids
Mary Sue Hermione has lesbian parents and is force sensitive.
Book it.
When is it in the timeline? Like in between which episodes?
5 years after return of the jedi
same year as mandalorian
I had not heard that it was compared to The Goonies, which is funny because that's exactly how I described it to my friends after watching the first two episodes. So, on-point for that comparison. After just the first two episodes I already think it's better than the entire one and only (probably) season of The Acolyte. I didn't hate The Acolyte as much as some people (though it has many problems), but this is much better. Andor is still the best Star Wars series so far though, hands down IMO. Can't wait for season two starting April 22, 2025!
The dad is the lead singer of the super underrated awesome band TV on the Radio
2 episodes in and I'm already liking the cast. Unlike the last few Star Wars shows.
Overall I enjoyed the first two episodes. I would rate the first two episodes 7.5 out of 10. I hope the show continues to get even better. I recommend watching it
It's actually good, but strictly for kids. It is not for me, but it will be great for introducing the younger audience to Star Wars.
I'd be careful how you label it this early on. The creators said it's featuring kids, but it's NOT a kids a show. Made for all ages like all Star Wars but I'm expecting it to have darker moments. Don't forget how brutal that opening scene was with the pirate attack.
Definitely different vibes from the acolyte...that's all that matters
Disney still in love with the short run times and 8 episode formula though.
I am going to mention, yet again: watch the breakdown videos put out by Charlie, over at "Emergency Awesome"
Additionally, I would also recommend the videos on this show put out by Alan, over at "Generation Tech".
That being said, so far, I am really enjoying this show. Incidentally, there definitely does seem to be something going on... underneath.
I ain’t watching until I hear 👂 this show doesn’t unravel itself like toilet paper 🧻 into a toilet 🚽 bowl
I loved it
Yes i love this show. But i think this show can build out season after season 🎉
My only gripe was the idea that you study for an aptitude test.
Well, it's a contained society where people are not allowed to come into or leave the planet so who knows what kind of societal rules they've concocted to maintain control.
You’re definitely not Korean.
😂
with the amount of time it takes between seasons; won't these kids be in their mid/late teens when the next season rolls around? I wonder how they'll handle that?
Doubt it will go for another season.
There will be no season 2
There will be no season 2
It should help. The kids are cast 3-4 years too young.
Trailer showed the ship getting eaten by some massive machine, but other than that i feel like we've seen most of the trailer footage already which is great
Thank God!
This show is for everyone not just kids
To people think that this is just for 10 year olds is complete idiot even animation is not just for kids either
I’m 30 and still like cartoons and I’m in art school 😊
And watching Nickelodeon is not childish either I love loud house paw Patorl TMNT and Bluey
And just so you know I’m autistic
And plus I’m seeing flow on Thursday then lord of the rings on the 13th then sonic 3 tell me again that animation is just for kids it’s not
And btw Kris loves the loud House like I do even Hilda
The fact that the planet doesn’t know about the empire, that explains why the kids only have old republic credits
They literally referenced the empire in the episode lol
Could At Attin be a nod to AT-ATs?
I Loves Two Videos Skeleton Crew Series too But I See More too
my favortie part was when they where in jail discussing how there planet was some mythical treasure planet and the kid that day dreams says thats stupid who would believe that loland im like YOU would wim ! you would
Im down
And then I clapped
It seemed shot awfully dark. Like it so far but just couldn't see some of it.
What are watching it on?? Looked great on mine, but I’m on an OLED
Yeah, watched first ep on TV and second on my phone, and both looked perfectly fine.
You can say that again.
I Just watch this as a standalone series no connection with other star wars stuff low thought and it was fun and entertaining
Oh ... I'll fall too 😂
But yeah other than that. I thought it was fun, all the pirate characters looked great. Seeing Fuzzball was a treasure. So overall is a pretty good show so far.
I hope it does amazing! It's not for me, I won't be watching. But if it's our "win" that gets Kathleen to relinquish star wars. Let's go!!!!
@@robertdickson9319 I dont think he's a jedi, but a pirate with tricks.
Episode 1 was good at world building but some of the dialogue was pretty blah / cliche. Episode 2 helped redeem it with putting mystery front and center.
Seeing curbs, streets, and sidewalks in Star Wars is weirdly jarring 😅😅
They should have named this show “Star Wars Prodigy”. 😂
Show is okay. Hopefully it picks up. I do love the music though.
I've yet to see it.
I'm going to tonight soon.
I'm not too excited. I'm not a fan of following kid characters. Even when I was a kid. I've generally preferred adult Characters. Of course there's a couple exceptions like ET.
The Lost Boys. Arguably the Best Vampire movie
That's about it.
Planetary Intercourse.
