Hi! Do you know if I need to go to a perito in Mexico to translate my documents or if I can have them translated in the US and take them with me to Mexico? I was going to register at a consulate in the US but I can't get a hold of anyone in any nearby consulates to answer questions on documents needed for my mom since she remarried twice after divorcing my dad. I did email the consulate office several months ago and they said I could not register due to my mom's last name not matching her birth cert. They never responded to my follow up email. So I plan to try within Mexico with my dad. Also, did I understand that marriage certificates for my parents will be required in Mexico and should they also be translated? Thank. you so much!!
Hi @tasteoflucha Peritos do exist outside of mexico, so you shouldn't have a problem if you desire to get your documents translated prior to travel to Mexico. If you are going to register in Mexico, you only will need one of your parents' Mexican documentation; and you should not need their marriage certificate at all for the registration. I hope that helps!
How did it go processing in Mexico? I have the same issue where my American mom has been remarried so of course her ID has a different name. That's a relief I don't need to use my mom's info in Mexico or the birth certificate - thank you!
Does the translated version also then have to be apostilled ? And can we get documents translated in our own country by an official person recognised in our country or does Mexican embassy only wanted it translated by a perito in Mexico ?
Hi @justyoutube5829 You can get your apostilled documents translated outside of Mexico, no problem. And once it is apostilled and translated, there will be no need to apostille the translated version again. I hope that helps!
I'm planning a move to Mexico myself, does it matter in what order I do this like can I apostille a document in my country of origin and then hand it to a Perito in Mexico? Or does it not work like that?
Hi Quintin! Excellent question. It does not matter the order. My husband and I had our documents apostilled in our home country then waited until we arrived in Mexico to have them translated by a perito. [helpful tip: you may find an official translator at most Notaria offices; depending on the language of origin]

They will need to have all documents translated in Mexico into Spanish by approved translator.
