Thanks pal. That picture on the back had me scratching my head. 👍
The "Stop Ferrule" could be used in several different ways. It could be used as this video suggests, but I would suggest only in cases where you have the stop Ferrule and have no other use for it in your application. Honestly, there is no "Need" for it to be used in this way. It's more a case of "I've got it, and it might be a bit of extra security, why not". In the end, while you can use it this way, it's not really it's intended purpose. You can crimp the Stop Ferrule on to the opposite end of the cable to prevent it from pulling through some sort of hole. This is NOT intended to be a point that will hold extreme tension and should never be used in that way. It's merely a way to attach a cable to something in a way that will prevent the cable from falling off and getting lost. Alternatively, you could attach the Stop Ferrule at some mid point of the cable to prevent the cable from passing through a certain point. Once again, this is not meant to hold tension. It's merely a way to stop the cable at a desired location. At the end of the day, there is no "NEED" to use the Stop Ferrule at all. Finally, the Ferrule used to create the loop in the cable is ABSOLUTLY MEANT TO BE CRIMPED USING A SWAGE TOOL. If you do as this video suggests and don't crimp the Ferrule properly, you're defeating the whole point of the Ferrule in the first place. Not to mention that if you put the cable under any tension, the loop will constrict around what ever you put the loop around. The Ferrule that creates the loop is meant to handle the a tension load and must be crimped properly.
Thank you
I just learned more from your single comment than I did from over an hour of youtube videos and Google searches, goat comment 👊👍
Rofl nice satirical video . Should be good for your little picture frame buddy. I got a good laugh when you crimped it with linesman plier blades 😂. BRAVO
Glad you got a laugh out of it, but what ever i did actually worked, instructions are confusing 🫤 and look at the views, I am not the only one, but instead of complaining I found a solution that works as funny as it is
@@ZimaletaMotors yeah it works good especially for a picture frame but not for construction
You do need to crimp the larger ferrule so that the wire rope does not slip in or out of it.
That picture is the exact reason I searched for this video. It was very confusing.
I wondered about the stop. It could be used any way. But I get that it's made for the other end. But it is also a way to keep the cable from poking you if you don't "need" it as a stop. Also, I don't have a "swaging" tool" and am not going to buy one unless it's for some thick cable for" load bearing" or "protection". For these little picture hanging projects I just use electricians Pliers and it works fine on these little aluminum ferrules. The kind of pliers that crimp a wire connecter shut. It's a dull squeezing.
Thanks. I just got some ferrules and they came with the little stop and I (and the guy at the hardware store) couldn't figure out where the little stop went.
Stop goes on the other end of the cable to prevent cable from passing through like when using on a gate latch
Thanks. Supper helpful.
You’re so welcome glad it helped
I work at HD and I agree with his presentation even though it is just an example of how to use and not a full diagram. Yes, the illustration could show more, but it is also intended for those who know how to use these cables and crimpers together with the stop ferrule, and also in reference to the comment below from stanjuan1178, he is right on with this ideal application. 😉
Thankyou sir
Your welcome
Great video
You are wrong. That's not where the stop sleeve goes, the stop sleeve goes on the other end of the wire, it prevents the open end from slipping through an opening where the wire is attache to.
Good to know
Thank you. He is wrong. But at first I agreed with him. But the more I think of it... If the long end slips and you need that stop to make it more sturdy, then you need a larger/thicker setup. The way you explained it makes perfect sense, the stop can be inches or feet away from the ferrule. My situation is using a pulley and now I see how the stop can come in contact with the pulley even if the stop is several feet away from the ferrule. So the picture on the packaging is correct but for size constraints on the packaging they show the stop butted uo agaisnt the ferrule. Thank you!
I can see how the method in the video will "help" if you're transferring too much weight OR you have a crappy crimp on the ferrule and things are slipping.
Thanks, I was hanging a heavy mirror and I must say I have not had any issues lol
To say you don’t need to crimp the ferrule is extremely wrong and dangerous advice. The ferrule is the part you absolutely crimp.
Thanks. I was confused
Thank you that was very helpful
Is the steel cable also 1/16th? It feels so tight and nearly impossible to fit through the ferrule.
Thanks
Thanks 👍
The stop sleeve is for the other end of the wire to stop it from going through a hole. It's not for the loop end. The picture is confusing but that's why.
Thank you. I purchased the 10 piece set, tho it doesn’t come with the smaller end to lock it. Any ideas as to how to make it satay?
I don’t know lol I did mine my way and was told by some it was wrong, but my heavy mirror still hanging no problems
Thank you Brother,
Thanks so much for showing and explaining the video help so much
Thanks dude
I suspected the diagram on the packaging had the stopper on the wrong end of the wire, thank you!
Are you sure you don't crimp the ferrule? The stop set is not that strong under tension.
Crimp it so that it makes you feel safer, I hung a heavy mirror about 2 feet by 6 feet size and it’s still hanging no problem
You are wrong on the correct procedures to install and properly swage ferrules and stops. There are specific number of stages applied by the size of the ferrule, material type and ferrule type.
You helped me fix what my wife messed up 😂 thank you
I don't think you know what the stop actually does.
He sure doesn't
Don’t do squat far as I’m concerned. Payed $3.78 for these. Waste of $…
One is an oval sleeve to make cable loops and the other is a cable stop sleeve. So you should change the video.
Yeah, I saw that right away, that's why I went to UA-cam to see if I am the crazy one... Weird that they would show that wrong...
Yes the picture is wrong!! I thought I was crazy!
Glad I am not the only one, btw this is an old video but I can honestly say that heavy mirror has been hanging all this time and never fell, maybe I did not do it like the picture but my way worked just fine
Thank you!!!
Your so welcome
It's not completely wrong dude it's jus a smell scale for both ends of the wire ... You are completely wrong ferrule is for the loop end an the stop is for the other end of the cable if u were to run the cable thru a hole u would use the stop on the back side
That helps !! The picture did not make sense!
Hey Guys I decided to make a video today after noticing that instructions on the box was confusing, maybe it’s just me but I decided to explain it how it really works, hanging a large mirror today I bought this Ferrule and Stop set and made my own setup for hanging the mirror
Thank you
Your welcome
You need a swag tool and the correct way to crimp that wire. This is all wrong. If you wanna do a small morror like you have here you may get away w your method. However this a clear video of what NOT to do if this were an application where a heavy load would be brought into the fray.
So much wrong with this video, You absolutely have to crimp the ferrule, the stop is supposed to be used for the other end of the cable to keep the wire from pulling through a hole. Its not needed in every use case but they include it anyways. You absolutely can use the stop as extra protection to keep the wire from pulling through the Ferrule but its not what its intended for. But, you should absolutely always crimp the ferrule... its not supposed to be a slip-knot.
Thank you for clarifying, but just so you know, I got a heavy large mirror still hanging till this day. This is a very old video. Whatever I did did work. It’s too bad you wasn’t there to help me figure it out, but maybe it will help somebody else.
@ZimaletaMotors glad that what you did works.
This video is WRONG on two major points:
1: The Stop Ferrule is intended to stop the cable from going through a hole or pulley at some distance from the loop. It's not just intended to stop the cable end from fraying, though of course you could use extra stop ferrules for that purpose.
2. The loop ferrule MUST be swaged (crimped) in at least two places or more depending on the cable diameter. You should NOT just leave the loop ferrule loose on the cable.
This person should delete this misleading video.
Wrong, The stop is designed to keep the wire from unraveling, that’s all it does.. Mike Drop😎
Is that a Moldovian accent you have?
Maybe lol or it’s Russian
You never showed how you screw the metal piece
Really?
I mean the smaller piece of metal is still loose, do you smash it to keep it in place? You use a swaging tool I believe.
Totally wrong!
Actually
This is b.s. These don’t even work without having to use the stup1d tool thing. I payed $3.78 for these plus tax… Waste of $…
First
Thanks!
you really don't know do ya....
lol
