      So I hope I don’t come off like a jerk but I was truly curious how you would hit rims on those drums. I’ve never seen a pair up close so I didn’t know if maybe the rims are higher or the cut outs for zones are smaller?

    • @EricPeelMusic

      @chrispbeats
      Listen to any book from early 2000s or earlier, even BD. Mostly, musically well written. Then listen to any book from early 2010s and on. It’s more technical, less musical. There’s little to no musical cohesion between the percussion and brass. Phrases don’t get finished. Arrangements are butchered. Its definitely a drum corps problem and has been for years. Concert percussion performers generally have little sustained interest in drum corps because of the writing. DCI rules set it up this way. More technical books win over musical ones. Its why BD seems to win every year. So I will agree with you that BD is the most guilty, but not the only guilty one.

    I’m so confused at measure 7: first, a normal quarter note, then 2 tuplets... why is there an 8th note after? Shouldn’t it be another quarter note so it would add up to 4?

    • @rafathama
      @rafathama 6 років тому +5

      It sounds like the quarter note takes up one count, then the 7 uplet takes up 6 sixteenth note spaces, then the paradiddle diddle starts on the upbeat of count 3 and ends with the eighth note on the & count of 4. There should be a 7:6 over the 7 uplet instead of just a 7. Hope this helps.

    • @0Aquamelon
      @0Aquamelon 6 років тому

      Rafael Feliciano yeah, I think it clears it up a bit more. I don’t exactly know how to play 7:6 lets or whatever, but I think I can figure it out. Thanks so much, Ive been stuck on this for a while.

    • @chaoshuffer
      @chaoshuffer 6 років тому

      Aquamelon! Count it based on the accented notes that start each grouping, which you will notice all fall on the right hand and form a simple eighth note rhythm. With the tuplets removed it’s just 1 2(and3) And(4) And, if makes sense to verbalize it like that. In other words, a quarter note, dotted quarter, quarter, eighth. Now using that skeleton to place the accented RH that begins each grouping, just add a seven across the dotted quarter and a sextuplet across the second quarter note. Keep the accented rights accurate with the metronome and just evenly space the seven across those three eighth notes. The sextuplet should be easy enough, it just starts on the offbeat. After you get that skeleton in your head and listen to how the seven sounds spaced across the three eighths, you’ll have no problem counting the 7:3 (or 7:6, however you want to notate it, what’s called a nested tuplet). Now you just have to have the chops and accuracy around the drums to play it cleanly. Hope that helps!

    • @0Aquamelon
      @0Aquamelon 6 років тому

      GUTTERED wow! That... is a long explanation! I think just saying it was 7:6 was enough, but I’ll use this as well if I ever need it. Thanks!

    BD writing has been ineffective for years. Chops and talent aside (they are definitely talented and some of the best players in the game), the composition just ain’t it. Can you hear the difference in the spock voicing at bar 6? Cringe.
