You are awesome 👌 my son has dropped his switch multiple times he was always taking it out of the case i got him to dock it and never put it back on. So last time yhe screen went black still had sound and when docked it still came up on the tv but black screen in mobile mode. Opened it up couldn't even see the black light ribben was under the board took some tweezers pulled it out and plugged it in and it works perfectly 👌 thanks so much for the help

Thank you for the video! My son spilled water on the switch and the was corrosion on the back light ribbon. Cleaned it off and Boom! Screen came right on. Thanks again!
My switch was doing the same thing and since I have experience tinkering with electronics I decided to open it up and take a look at what was going on inside. I disconnected both ribbons to the game card holder and cleaned them. Sure enough after reconnecting the battery the switch fired right up. No water damage and had never been dropped. Idk what happened but it fixed it. I bought a small tool kit at best buy for $25 that came with everything. I recommend if you have this issue and none of the hard resets work, just open it up and clean it up. Itll save the hours of aimless research and anxiety. Trust me I was there last night lol. I referenced this video while taking mine apart. Super simple and honestly anyone with some attention to detail will be able to do this.
I guess I’ll do that before I spend $100 to send it to Nintendo

Already broken... if you’re a kid and parents don’t care or know what to do then just do it. SLOWLY
Make sure you keep the different screws separate
If your Device is allready broken, there is literally NOTHING to fear. Either you fix it and have a working device again. Or you break it - which it allready way before.
In case of a broken switch... Sell Joycons, Dock and everything seperate (will get you more money) and the switch itself as BROKEN. It doesn't really matter if you fucked with it yourself or not. Broken is broken.
So if you try to fix it - you can't really loose in any event. You allready lost when it broke, either options tough won't make your situation any worse. Except if you are a total fucking moron. Seen a UA-camr last week who killed his battery, because he tried to yank it out with some very sharp metal pliars, LOL. If you got the bare minimum of common sense tough, you propably won't do that.
I had a backlight cable problem, too, but I fixed it thanks to you.

I had exactly this issue. Gazillions of attempts to reset the system failed. The jumper anchor was loose and needed to be pushed back down again. You saved me from having to buy another one or pay for expensive repairs. Thank you!!

Thank you SOOOO MUCH! I was wondering if it is the battery issue that cannot supply enough power to light the screen up, and it cost me 30$ for battery replacement, The repairman can't even notice the problem is the ribbon you pulled out @1:50, just clean that ribbon like the way you did with finger rubbing and push it back (remember to lid up the cable cap before ejection and pull-back).
It saved my day! now I'm gonna make a complaint about the unprofessionalism of the local repairment department.

Mines doing this and has possible water damage, can't get a straight answer from the kids. It won't work in the dock either. Is that normal? Idk why it's affect the dock part and not be on the tv screen. I can still hear everything and it has touch response but no visual

I have the same problem. My switch screen is popping out, so maybe I’ll try to see if anything is disconnected in the morning. Hopefully I don’t screw up though
When this first started happening, it would flicker on and off when I touched the screen. It got to the point where it won’t display anything, so maybe I’m right

Hi guys, I'm having the same issue here. I'm from Brazil, and I've already sent my switch to repair in the store I've bought it since we dont have nintendo here in Brazil yet... Guys in the store said that it was a problema in the Motherboard, but I doubt it seeing this vídeo... Do you have any tips of how to desassemble my switch? Videos or some online manual? I'm a doctor and I dont have any experience... But I wanna try it, since the portable feature of switch is the only thing that makes me use it while I'm in hospitals when not working...

Hi Paulo, I just fixed my switch with the same exact problem as this video.. screen makes sound and touchscreen working but no image displayed ..
You will need special small screwdrivers .. I got a smartphone tool kit that came with te 2 screwdrivers needed.

Me replacing a screen on my own...new screen black might be wrong type..resets the 32-40 pins 5 times and input old screen same problem...the black side up on power led...had golden up as it reached better= no power to creen :P thanks man now to reinstall new screen agan works :)
Didn't work for me sadly. I also noticed the backlight connector area looks different on my switch to your one, but it didn't feel loose regardless.
Hard to say what the problem is now, most likely the screen? I'm imagining that it's just a loose connection as the screen flickered a little before it went black, but I don't know what I'm looking at when I take the back off so hard to know where to begin with the screen!

Mine does the same thing but the screen works when i charge it with my phone charger... But i must admit its a really fast type c charger. I will tear down to look inside tomorow as well.
This video was very helpful :) do you know a good way to clean the ribbon cable for the backlight? I have a unit that was water damaged and has tarnish or corrosion on the rubicon. I can hear sound but there is no display.

That just happened too me yesterday. Only had it for a 2 week. No picture no sound i watch all these youtube videos about holding the button BS. I hold it for 12. 15. 20 seconds. Never works. I got my refund. The switch its the worst system ever!! Waste of $200.00 on the lite and its my very first time. Now i see this happens alot after reading everyone comment saying they just got it. Working or not that should never happened period unless you drop it or have it at least a year. Not 1-2 weeks after you buy it!!! I'm staying with my PlayStation vita and psp go
Mate every console has issues like this, most likely caused in shipping, Nintendo obviously wouldn't purposefully make this happen and just because say 50,000 people had this issue doesn't mean the majority of people will have the problem as millions have the system

Hey, mine has this problem: switch have sound and backlight but no image or tactile response. If I use it docked, it works fine. Tried replacing the screen, but it wont turn on. What could it be? The flex connector?

My uncle just held the power button for a long time and it turned off because the controllers turned off so we just turned it on again and it was perfectly normal but before the problem began i was playing fornite and the screen froze but my controllers were still vibrating and i got this notification saying there was an error and i tried launching fortnite again but the screen froze but on everybodys vid you could still hear sound of you moving the joycon and stuff but mine had no sound so maybe it was just a glitch or something

My backlight is on but no picture. Kid smacked the screen with a stick and no picture. Can't see any cracks. Can't get it open because of the tri-wing screws.
Hi...you should get the tri wing screw driver and try to re-seat all the flex cable connector..
