He sure does seem dejected and has no familial support. Seeing he has come from gang life it's very likely he has had no parental support or guidance. His inability to create a stable life is proof of that. I think he needs some counseling. He has no idea how to do a stable, secure life. I hope he is able to do it.

Romain! This interview is such a great example of how dreams and plans are not enough. It's the action that brings things to life. Even then, more often than not, plans do not work out as we hoped and we have to learn how to get up, reassess, and try again. Our culture wants everything easy and fast, and that is not how it works. Talk to anyone who has reached their goals, and you'll hear a tough journey of ups and downs. I've been in Rio's shoes and the lesson of dreams not being enough is a hard one. If we make today plans on "hope" future money, we end up in this example of debt vs. dreams. Thank you so much for this interview! I I hope Rio has good news next time.

You've expressed it perfectly! It's about balancing debt and dreams. I'm all for pursuing your dreams, yet I also believe in being realistic and establishing a solid foundation first. This approach ensures you have a fair and informed opportunity to achieve your aspirations👍

His answer to missing the goals is “it’s mentality, it’s programming, people hate to see you succeed” but you had laid out a clear path, I hope he applies himself to the strategy moving forward. Strategy & action is what’s needed here, without a plan all he really can do is get swallowed up by the excuses he wields

Yes but emotional blocks, stress and the way a dysfunctional childhood mis-wires you neurologically are like mountains to climb every day. It takes confidence and a degree of faith just to get started. The trauma and stress are like a virus running your software. And he's right, even given all the tools, there's another piece preventing people from progressing. He seems to recognize that and is trying to overcome it.
What I have learned in my own experience, is that you can't wait for that to go away before you take steps. You have to take steps and fumble through it, even if you're filled with anxiety and shame or whatever. The rewards will slowly replace the blocks over time as confidence is built through repetition. This is essentially what healthy parenting would have done for a child, setting them up psychologically to do it for themselves in adulthood. Traumatized adults have the very difficult task of trying to do this for themselves, without really having the tools yet. It can be done, but people without this wounding often cannot relate to how hard it really is.

Excellent comment! This underscores why I strive to acknowledge my biases, approach conversations without judgment, and genuinely attempt to understand what matters most to the person I'm engaging with. In this interview, rather than offering direct recommendations, I continuously asked How? How? How? diving layer by layer, encouraging the Rio to arrive at his own conclusions. This approach allowed me to potentially uncover something that might truly resonate with him. Only time will tell if this worked 🤞

He’s living his life to be entertaining to everyone around him instead of being the guy who he needs to be to get this done. He’s programmed himself to live an Instagram story instead of doing the work of actually being different cuz he feels judged. He’s still far too concerned with what the negative people think. He’s striving to look like what he thinks “rich” people look like instead of actually being rich.

This young man reminds me of my cousin, so so much - big dreams and waiting for something to happen. I have talked to him till I'm blue in the face (and that's hard cause my skin is brown) to tell him, "if you start small the big things will come." I told him go get a job at wal-mart (night shift paying shift differential) he told me "he was too good for that", can you believe that! My parents (my mom especially) would have knocked my out the front door if I had told her that, and my dad would have let me starve).
Young ppl want instant gratification in a career or job- it's not working out for my cousin and it's not working out for Rio.
I feel so sorry for young men like Rio, but they think they can just start in the middle and "boom" they've made it to the top. Rio might need to take the $150 and get some counseling. Also, the EBT is govt. assistance (just a new name for food stamps), Romain. it may take 6 months or a year for Rio to have stability in a job, but have a positive cash flow before you chase a dream, because one thing for sure dreams do not chase any of us.

Rio needs to get grounded. Take pride in small steps and little victories. When you set your sights too high you will feel like a failure if you can't reach them. He needs to stop reading self help books and listening to inspirational speakers and just do the daily grind. Don't try to impress anyone.

Glad you’re back to regularly scheduled content Romain!
    Have lots of thoughts…
Rio seems like a classic case of “addicted to the struggle”. Subconsciously clinging to his identity as someone that is in a poor situation regardless of how hard he works. Hustling and struggling every day. He then lives above his means to get tastes of luxuries like a 2BR apt (I’ve made six figures for years and JUST upgraded to one!), expensive TV, gaming consoles, etc.
I think this is an issue better suited for a therapist, if he could ever humble himself enough to try that.
Also a restaurant job, or even a data-entry office job could bring in the stable income.
Wishing you the best Rio, find people to encourage your growth. Who you surround yourself with matters. Good luck!!

20-28 FT job 1 Mon-Fri. Fri overnight plus Sat & Sun at job 2.

Honestly, if he was truly in the gang life, he would not want to be a model or actor. The minute you "leave" that life, someone is going to find you if you are putting yourself out there in the public eye. What he wants is fame and a life with money and minimal work. But you can't attain that without doing the work.
In an LA context, this is just the ghetto life. The people really in the "life" will not romanticize it with delusions of adequacy. It's completely wrong.

Awesome interview Romain and I am truly rooting for Rio! Focus is what he needs, because, what it sounds like... Rio has too many things he is trying to juggle which causes one to spread themselves out too thin. So for example: If you have one job that pays $23/hr then another job that pays $15/hr and then something that pays nothing at all but is a passion of yours, and you try to do all of them in equal amount... It's financially not going to work. Your main focus until you start producing incoming with the "passion" job is to stick to the job that pays $23/hr until you have your finances under control as well as having an emergency fund in place. As Romain said, one needs to have their foundation setup before they start exploring other things. I am all for following one's dreams but don't let those dreams cause a financial nightmare.

Love your show. But this was the most frustrating and painful episode. Not judging him - but his aloof answers taken at face value come as a person with little focus and used to using excuses. Does he have this attitude on a real job? No boss likes dealing with excuse minded employees. Thus - maybe he’s not being transparent and he’s not sharing the real reason for those road blocks. Not in any ways criticizing- I just think that psychology and mental health tips some time need to be part of the plan to get some people back on the train.
