- Jaws is without a doubt one of my all time favourite movies. It's a perfect film from beginning to end and actually is regarded as being the first ever Blockbuster. The films climax just screams adventure to me. 3 men on a boat fighting nature, I absolutely love it. Jaws is realistic but still manages to keep it's film magic, which is a thing movies don't achieve anymore these days. I wish they would still make films like Jaws. This movie has also kickstarted Steven Spielbergs career, which changed film forever. It wasn't an easy start tho, Jaws was a shit show to shoot 💀. Especially the boat stuff. But it turned out to be an incredible movie nonetheless and I doubt that it will ever be forgotten! ⛵🦈

It's amazing how many people will "swim with the sharks" irl. Fully aware of the danger that a certain activity holds, or the high chance of an unfavorable outcome/potential for a slippery slope and high negative consequences, and yet STILL, they cannot pull themselves away from its alluring siren song. Another volunteer casualty of circumstances that should never have existed, outside of self-perpetuating and harmful interest in dark things. And if the "shark" out there in the unknown doesn't bite you the first time, it will when you inevitably venture further out into the depths, once the shallows become not enough for you. Even if everyone else is in the shallows, there are many times when one should never have even entered the water. I love the shot with the skeletal jaws around his head, showing the imminent nature of this huge problem about to *snap* down onto him, great subtle foreshadowing.
I really like how you used the unusually paced lulls in the music and filled them with the soft, grainy but rugged dialogue, they had the air of grizzled sailor fireside chats. 🔥 The flash of red on the body and as the waves washed ashore was almost like a subconscious warning, that sort of "Spidey Sense" you get when danger lurks nearby, it appears and then fades but that's all the warning you get sometimes. Many movies before and since Jaws have strived to play upon those innate, instinctual fears that all humans are born with--in this case, fear of the vast unknown and unseen threats in common but wild places like the ocean. 🌊 I think few films have achieved that goal since, and none quite like Jaws. There are visceral fears like the dark, doppelgangers, insanity, etc. but it all seems so overdone now, all embellishments and no root substance. Perhaps the golden age of exploiting these core and shared fears is over, but at least we have films like these to look back on and cherish.
It seems like the 70s were obsessed with the coldness of black eyes 😅, this was like a precursor to Loomis's famous monologue about Michael Myers when he mentions "the blackest eyes...the Devil's eyes." ⚫👄⚫
