  • Do You use a botanical gel in your styling routine?
The conscious consumer and the advent of the clean beauty movement have made pant-based everything more popular. When it comes to hair care, plant-based products bring promises of healthy, conscious curls, definition, and ease.
While this is very enticing, all plan-based products are not equal. The use of plant-based is good, but the overuse or misuse of the wrong plant-based products can lead to more of the same with natural hair care. If you’re curious about botanical gels and their benefit, you’re in luck! Today we’re taking a closer look at botanical gels and why they might be right for your styling routine.
Don’t just take my word for it. While layering of botanical gels has become part of my go styling technique, I challenge to give it a try and test the results yourself. Whether you like it or love it, comment below and let me know how it works out.

Please keep up the work! I've been searching for a Black scientist (not just a stylist) who can explain hair care in the simplest terms. I trust what you say, that degree and experience really make a difference. Everyone else just seems to be guessing but you have done actual research! The search was long but thank you 🙏🏾

Awe thank you so much. I appreciate the level of respect you have for my point of view and the research I’ve done to develop it. I’m glad you’re enjoying it.

I use a botanical gel in the place of leave in. And I use a topper or more synthetic gel for more hold. My hair stays nice for up to a week.

I do the same. It works really well for my curls and my styles last longer as well

Is there even a need for a cream between both gels?

Great video. What Botanical gels do you suggest for layering? Does it matter which gel is used first?

      Hi Mahlet!
Thanks for your question. Yes, it does matter but depends heavily on the key characteristics of your hair and other factors that affect the way your hair behaves/responds to products. I released a blog about today. You can check it out here:
      boldkulture.com/2020/12/03/botanical-gels-for-my-tight-coils/
It will answer your question in more detail and give some combo options that work well.

What do you pair your botanical gels to seal in their hydrating properties?

Hi Lady Gem! Thank for your question. I like to layer my botanical gels with each other for maximum effect. I don't seal my hair with additional oils or anything else bc it is not necessary. The most beneficial point of hydration occurs during the shampoo process & the cuticle is closed and sealed during the conditioning process.
While botanical gels can draw moisture to the hair, our stylers are not be the main source of hydration. I should expect my hair to lose moisture over time which is why consistent shampooing is essential.
I wrote a few blog posts with some great information on moisture and hydration, you can check them out here:
