For scent-sensitive folks:

Some people with scent sensitivity find luck with the Giovanni 50/50 conditioner.
Innersense has a fragrance-free all-purpose shampoo and a frag free conditioner (if this is not your preference remember the Giovanni conditioner as a possible option).
Curl Mix has a full lineup of fragrance free options. I plan to use the shampoo as an all purpose shampoo. I'm not currently purchasing the gel for aesthetic reasons but I may in the future.

Thank you for this video. Your last video of the botanical gel application encouraged me to try just a botanical gel on my hair. Also your tips helped prepare me so I was able to set my hair with no major issues. I love what you had said about being able to still enjoy your hair even if it's not in a super defined state (like your salon wng). It made me rethink my approach to my hair in that I am opening myself up more to exploring and enjoying my hair in the many forms it can take on. Thanks for sharing your honest and detailed experiences with us!
Thank you. Thought we may have to wait a few weeks for this video.
You're welcome! I'm happy that more resources are available now for everyone!
Thanks for sharing your video on tangling and webbing when using botanical gels. I really found it helpful, cause I used to wonder if there was something wrong with my hair. The ends would always get webbed, and I trimmed my ends a couple of times thinking that was the problem.
I'm happy it was helpful!
I have more fine to normal strands & curly magic works everytime for me!
My apologies Fo. I’m doing my hair this morning and yes, I’m having some tangling, not major but I am having webbing. But I did my hair outside of the shower and I usually do it in the shower.
I had the same experience using as i am curling jelly as a base, every time i applied it my previously detangled hair would become extremely tangled and unmanageable and I've concluded that it's the Aloe that is causing that flash drying effect on my strands - my surface texture is rough and it just makes it feel worse so i'm steering away from aloe based base gels - on the hunt for new base gels atm.
Yes! I noticed it's aloe in some stylers that's an issue and my stylist confirmed it yesterday! Before talking her I thought I was making something up 🤣.
@@FoAdunni I’m glad you confirmed it to me too lol it’s been challenging for me trying to pèrfect wash and gos with my current base gel jacking up my strands 😂
Now I just have to find an aloe free base gel that works well…
I’ve never experienced tangling with Curly Magic but I do apply it like you do.
What is your surface texture and strand size?
Smooth surface texture and medium strands.
@@ossier2796 yea that explains your experience
Fo I also usually do my hair in the shower but today I did it outside of the shower and experienced the webbing and tangling.
I just watched Abena’s video using UFD and another product the we’ve both used. I’ve never tried that combo but I liked the he technique of smoothing and not raking right away.
If you're wondering about my hair here this is a braid out situation. This look is not my natural curl pattern. My natural curl pattern is tighter than this unless a gel weighs it down some. I had a rough night with reactions to product ingredients so I put my hair into plaits with leave in conditioner. I sat under the hooded dryer but the plaits didn't dry. In the morning I took the damp plaits down and diffused my hair dry.
I also deducted that aloe Vera in any gel doesn’t work for me at all. I’m on the lookout for a base gel that doesn’t have aloe Vera in it. Please if anyone finds one, reply to this comment! ❤
I recently read about Flash Drying. The description is exactly what happens to my hair when it gets webby, and feels dry even though it is saturated with water and gel that is supposed to be moisturizing. Awful feeling!
I've heard of the flash drying concept and I think it has truth to it but I'm hesitant to discuss it in detail because science is not what my degree is in 😂. I just know I will not be dealing with hard to apply products.
How long did it take you to see results for your hair? Hydration levels? I’ve been doing it for two weeks and I can’t keep a wash n go for more then a day. At least my hair is softer. I’m about to buy some good quality shampoo and conditioner from my natural hair stylists. She makes them handmade vegan with some good ingredients
It probably won't take you as long as it took me. I damaged my hair pretty bad. It took me 8 months to start having lasting definition in my wash n gos. I had a short sharp cut so it still looked good and if I really didn't like it I wore scarves.
I would say 2 weeks is a very short time to expect a big change in your hair. I have heard several stylist say to give your hair 12 months (sometimes more). That being said, I started seeing a visible change in my hair after 3 months (in terms of better definition and set longevity). I did exclusively wash n go's for that amount of time (using black girl curls as my resource). Give yourself grace to go through the journey and the transformation. The more you practice the better you'll get, and sets will look better and last longer due to your hair condition and technique improving at the same time. I hope it goes well for you!
Hello Deneesha, give yourself more time than 2 weeks. I've been following BGC for a month now. I learned about them 4 months before and liked the science behind their talk. I'm in my 4th week and like the techniques used that are giving me small results. I'm happy with what I see so far. Give yourself some grace and patience. Remember this is a journey! Best wishes to you and your crown!
You all are amazing and supportive 😭😭😭 I hope this helps Deneesha. Also I was hoping by telling you that my journey took a while and your's would likely take less you would feel comforted. I also recommend if you can joining a community for professional and peer support such as Carmen Veal Conway's community. It is around 6 dollars a month

Thanks everyone! I’ll be patient. I noticed a small change in my hair, but not a significant one. It will come with time
