I’ve always been so self conscious about my lack of natural singing ability because my whole family is extremely vocally talented so I’ve never been able to sing without hating my voice. Nobody in my family sang and neither did I. However, my best friend is a gifted singer that can pull off almost any song. So I eventually wanted to sing too. It has been a very long journey for me (6 years) but I'm finally developing a nice singing voice.

I was in the elementary school choir and many of the things you teach I completely forgot, since I stopped singing 30 years ago. This will help me a lot. Due to a bad family I was prevented from singing. Now at age 38, I realize it's never too late to start over.
It is never too late to rediscover the joy! 38 is young anyway!!

I love how you said anyone with a healthy voice can sing. Can anxiety about how we sound affect our singing? I long to sing and have for years but I think this is my biggest problem.
Definitely! Anxiety and self consciousness will hold you back. Try just singing and having fun with friends or family!
Maybe try singing in front of dolls or stuffed animals. This can help you get used to the idea of singing around people.
@@rainnymph I taught piano for years and would suggest this idea to my kid students for helping to prepare for recital, then move up to family/friends from there. I think they thought I was nuts but I think a lot of them tried it! 😄😊💗🤓
The anxiety gets reduce as you get better in singing and if you really know how to sing like singing techniques
I had this issue as a guitarist growing up. Once i took the plunge and started playing with other people that really built my confidence up. Find someone you feel comfortable with, then sing with them, so you could both sing or say they play guitar have them play chords to back you up.
Life is way too short to not do the things you enjoy, go for it and i wish you all the best
I am 76 years old and had given up on singing, even though I'd sung in a choir for many years. I have a tremor that affects my ability to turn pages, and I finally decided it was just too much. Then I watched a concert presented by women in their 60s, 70s and 80s. The music was amazing. Broadway and movie music, which was fun, and so different from the oratorios I was used to. I desperately wanted to try out for this group, and talked to my neurologist about getting a surgical procedure done to my brain that will stop the tremor. I would never have been brave enough, but I want the singing back in my life. It's bad enough that I can't play the piano any more, but if I can get the tremor fixed (it's not Parkinson's - it's essential tremor), I may even be able to play at least a little. I decided to watch your video in hopes that I can work on my voice in preparation for tryout time and be ready in August when the tremor is finally under control. Thank you for helping me believe that I can find that joy once again. I'm not willing to let it disappear from my life any longer.

Thank you for this!! I am crying rn because this is really hitting me straight in my heart… I was denied the opportunity to learn to sing in HS. I wanted to learn so went to ask the choir teacher. She said okay let’s have a try out, but I had never sang before and I had to do it in front of a varsity singer. Well of course I did terribly and she said you have no range, no you can’t join the choir. I was shy in the first place and very obedient so never tried to advocate for myself. I just wanted to learn how to sing! I’ve been sad about it ever since so am incredibly excited to give this a try! Thank you, Victoria!!!

I am so excited and I will be watching all of your videos. The reason is that literally I received a miracle and got my voice back. I’m 58 and have smoked most of my life. For over 10 years my voice has been hoarse slowly getting worse. A few days ago I almost died twice because my breathing was blocked. I had emergency surgery and they removed a polyp that covered 3/4 of my trachea. I came out of surgery and the hoarseness was gone, I could breathe freely and I’ve been singing almost nonstop! I never was much of a singer, but for years I couldn’t sing at all, I could barely hum. I am so filled with thankfulness and joy that I can’t shut up. I figured this might make it bearable for people around me, lol. And I finally quit smoking! This is too great a gift to lose.

I just don't want to sound horrific at church.
Thank you for the info on the "Trills". I am a disabled veteran witha scar to the left side of my face including no upper left lip. Everyone always shows adn says to do the Lip trill, which I can not do. You said we can use our tongue or a "V" or a "Z"... I can do the tongue. Everyone else made me feel like this was an important exercise that I can not do, you showed me other options adn gave me hope. TY.

There are many things like that- I met a young woman whose left hand was not functioning since birth and when she found out I taught piano she said she was always so bummed that she couldn't play piano because of her hand. I told her about right-hand blues-improv and how incredibly fun and rewarding it can be! I told her I'm often just practicing blues soloing with my right hand to a left hand soundtrack anyway and told her how she could do this. She was so excited! There are so many ways to think outside the box and so I'm so glad that this woman was similarly able to help you with your singing!!! I loved my first lesson! I actually am a singer, but wasn't trained. Just lucky. (My training is instrumental -- piano, woodwinds, guitar, and lately, banjo!) But I'm retired now, and am finding myself doing a lot of singing jobs, (piano bar type!) I love it, but I get such a sore throat every time. So I know I'm not singing properly! Time for some training!! Can't wait for more!!
I don't really have a desire to perform anywhere, but I'd enjoy being able to sing properly and trying out something like this! I can't sing particularly well, but could carry a tune without sticking out for sounding horrendous in the various congregation signing at school etc. Excited to learn more!!

Just tried doing the Ah” mid way through I started yawning” proud to say I hit the high note 😭
The yawning reflex should decrease with time. Just don't overdo the yawn when singing and breathing.

@@jacobcrowder2600 I don’t sing but I played a wind instrument and my teacher said you yawn because you’re not used to taking in such deep breathes, so doing breathing exercises should help with the yawing

Although I just became a teenager, I realised my passion in singing and that I can’t just sit there and do nothing about it, so I’ve finally gathered up the courage to share it with my parents and start learning online and offline. Almost Everyone in my family can sing naturally, For like the past 3 generations except me. I never got any natural talant but I still love music and want to be able to sing, so I’ll give learning a try, even if I can’t get it to be as good as theirs. I wanna be able to sing with them at least

I just wanted to thank you for all these videos I'm ultra beginner and I've been learning so much in the last three weeks and just this week I got the exercise program and my singing has improved so much already all I had before was power now with the wonderful lesson you've given me the gift of music it's such a priceless gift thank you so much and it's also so fun and best of all the loud awful sound is gone I still need to learn keys but I sound much better and an added benefit is I've been drinking water again and I feel healthy again and life is just better with music thank you Victoria

I think I stumbled upon a gold mine here. I am embarrassed to let others hear me sing but would love to work on this.
Thank you. I am starting singing again after over 10 years. I couldn't sing anymore because of traumas and ptss. I have always been insecure singing solo. Singing in Holland's second-largest opera choir didn't give me anxiety. Actually gave me strenght. But when I have to sing solo I get enormous stage fright. I am starting to sing again because it is my passion, and I wasted to many years being afraid. I can still reach the high C, but it is not "singing". I have been asked to give a 6mnth vocal-trainig.. Since we begin at zero, it is also a training for my own voice and confidence. I want younger people to grab their passion and not be afraid like I was. No matter what other say. My parents didn't support me. So I started singing late, in my mid twenties. Everyone said I had beautiful voice. But because of the lack of my parents support, I was afraid. Then getting in to 2 opera choirs made e realize, I must be good. Because I had to do an audition . And directors were very strict. Anyway I have hope for the future now. And seeing these vocal-training videos, the exercises I had to learn are very helpful with putting together my lessons. So thank you 👏

Thank you so much for your channel and content!! I love to sing, I sing allll the time and turn everything into a song. I think I have a pretty decent voice but only when I’m singing quietly. It gets uncomfortable when I sing louder and then I sound choppy. I want to sing better so that I am more comfortable belting out songs in the car or shower and when I am singing lullabys to my kids at night 😊 this is very clear and concise information, I am very grateful to you! ☺️💙

What I really liked about this video is you explained the technique on how to sing from within.
Every singer I have ever asked about this points to their midsection and says "sing from here."
