If you consistently use Port and Starboard lighting your builds meet an existing standard for navigation and direction. I add a Blue/ Yellow pair for top and bottom.
I'm so glad you mentioned setting a low intensity like 1 is more realistic. I get a bit tired of people washing out their builds in solid white light that permeates through solid matter somehow. >.
It really should be the default 😑
I like using running lights on atmospheric and space craft so you know what direction you're looking at the thing from. Red = port, Green = Starboard (left and right respectively when facing "forward").
Some clever tricks here!
i like to set some of my air vents to fill the room and some to depresurize it to keep that venting fog look behind grates with spotlights looks great
The lighting in this game, is some of the best, and some of the worst I've seen in a space voxel video game. I can only assume it's user error, some of those effects look awesome!!
Thanks for the video! I am inspired to add more natural ambient lighting to my builds with these tips!
Awesome! Thank you for these tips! ^^ In the new automatons update, I may need help setting up drones to launch and cruise missiles, could you please maybe do a video on those topics?
I'm glad you're the tips! I've never tried to make a missile, so it will be a moment, but it's already on my list!
1:45 What is the advantage of memorizing specific numbers? I find it easier to just adjust the sliders with my mouse to create the same stair-step pattern. This can cause some lights to be slightly different colours, but that just adds character to your builds, just like as mentioned later in the video at 3:07.
If you have your GUI settings to be transparent, you can also adjusting it in real time if it is not quite the mood that you are looking for, making it either more white or more warm, depending on if it is a living area or an industrial area. You can also step them backwards to create cool lighting to create a more futuristic sci-fi vibe.
Good question! A lot of people feel like they don't have a good command over colour, or may be colour blind. By remembering these numbers, people can be sure to get something close to a warm light.
@@GleebTorin I prefer just a touch more green in my warm light, curving down the blue rather than a straight line. Takes the beige edge off.
@@BrianRonald I live that there are people as nerdy about this as I am haha
Yeah. I strictly use Fibonacci sequences and the golden ratio on literally everything...
For a specific orange light I use 225/158/97 for example.
The ratios can be mixed to create different but consistent colours.
Here are the RGB numbers in Phi: 225/158/97/60/37/23/14/9/5/3/2
Space Engineers are weird! 😊@@GleebTorin
Unfortunately lights cost 25 PCU and LCD panel cost 50 PCU.
We cannot put too many of them just for aesthetic.
I usually put blinking lights on high wind turbine tower, landing pad, and drilling rig.
For indoor illumination I use windows, interior block, and neon tubes from spark of future DLC.
Those are some great points. The Tubes are a great way of lighting your base, MadMavn used them to great effect. I love getting fancy, though, haha
Fantastic. I wish I had this a while back when experimenting more with ligthing, would certainly have made things easier.
Well done 💙
Glad you found it useful, Alice!
SECOND!!!
can you make a workshop of your creation/world ?
You know, I hadn't thought of that. I'm busy at the moment, but I will absolutely reply again when I do it!
Is there a way you can make position lights strobe twice and then go dark for a second to then repeat that process?
Not without using a script. :/

Спасибо! Я англичанин, а не русский. Вы можете увидеть информацию о моем канале на русском языке, так как я перевел ее с помощью Google для русских друзей и зрителей. Однако я люблю получать комментарии на любом языке. :)
@@GleebTorin oh that's why the channel name was in russian, gleb is an unusual name for someone who's not from Russia.
@@Sorinoir In English, it's Gleeb Torin, but Google translated Gleeb as Gleb. I think the long E sound (like in cheese) doesn't exist in Russian?
Use offset to stop light bleeding when you go above 4 in the diameter.
gave me a cool idea building green flashing lights on landing pads and what not
I have many SE youtubers subbed, and your videos are the highest quality of the lot. I just wish there were more 😊
Working on it! Are there videos you'd like to see?
Searchlights reset their position every time the grid is reloaded, just like turrets, so they're not great for aimed, stationary lighting. Spotlights with rotors/hinges are still the best option for this even when you have the Warfare DLC.
That's odd, I've seen the opposite behaviour from them, but then this was on a Dedicated Server, where they also don't do the random looking around thing. Space Engineers is a weird game, man.
@@GleebTorin you can turn the looking around off, just like with turrets in case you dont know
This video is too good and makes me happy. Thanks for all the tips!
I'm so glad!
Great video! It's a pleasant surprise to see someone consider colourblindness when it is so often forgotten.
