I would love to see how this was developed, as in, how the enemies HP is calculated based on your current squad. It seems like there is something going on there that dynamically changes based on what you choose, otherwise it would be way too easy to make a situation where you cant win without taking HP. Would be fascinating to see a devlog on how all that was done.
My bet is that it has a list of possible numbers (the soldiers you have) and also a list of possible equations (scrolls and abilities), then it just randomly combines stuff until it gets multiple big numbers (all the enemies). That way there's always a guaranteed solution, or at least that's how I think it would've worked
I'm the gamedev : I started algebrawl as a perfect puzzle solver where ennemies HP were indeed calculated to fit a random squad. But It was boring and slow, because, if the player know a perfect answer exists, he will spend a large amount of time to find it, killing the fun. So I changed it to a roguelike, with levelup options VS ever-growing monsters. It can technically lead to impossible level ( Shotgun King also ) but they're most of the time the result of bad progression choices.

I wonder if the game calculates enemies depending on what you have so there is always a solution so in the shop phase you actually want to not pick things you think are most useful but actually those that keep the complexity as low as possible.
if you’re not planning to multiply after, there’s no reason to add ur units together before attacking the enemy as them attacking separately accomplishes the same thing unless you’re against a slime tho i suppose
In Germany, we needed to memorize a bigger times table containing the squares up to 20 and 1-20 times 1-10. 17x3 is a part of that. Or maybe the editors cut there...
Does it generate enemy numbers based on your possible moves? I mean, if you have only 2, 3 and 4, and could only multiply them, enemies should have either 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12 and 24? For me it seems it does, so you can never get an unfair match up, as the whole point of this is not to "beat an enemy", but to "match a number for each wave". Then, the strategy should be to go for easy calculations, like having multiple mice with the same number
pretty sure it does because otherwise you could just get an impossible fight, but for me it seems that taking upgrades that seem powerful doesnt actually help that much

The multilayered 8:02 joke is amazing
You never combined the bunny with the badger for multible halving abilities. That might have saved you the 1 HP.
Or combine the squirrel and the rabbit to get a new spell to combine a squirrel and a rabbit to get more spells to combine...

Now THIS is what should be on cool math games.
I see a funny glitch in this game already, when you pick up units to move them, the king un-sinks and shows his feet.
Imagine if there were several "1" enemies, so your entire squad gets corrupted.
