This is a great example of making a simple mechanic and seeing where it leads you and not the other way around. No game developer would ever think a 3x3 grid of letter in alphabetical order could make a puzzle or anything worthwhile. But if you just see where it leads you, there is so much potential. So many people get caught up copying others they don’t realize how much there is to discover. A+ from me
I was obsessed with those kinds of games growing up!! Still am, if I'm being honest. They're not as prevalent nowadays as they were before Flash died, but plenty of people (mainly Japanese people, in my experience) are still making them! If you're interested, I'd recommend checking out Neat Escape, Masa's Games, and Kotorinosu. Flashpoint Archive also has most of the Mild Escape series, as well as a lot of Neutral's games.
At 7:15, it seems like the order was based on making full circles with the cuts at the edges of the leaves. You know G is first since it's got only 1 on it's right, and vice versa for B, and then D and C would be determined by the angle of their left and right cuts needing to match our outer ones.
saw a few seconds of the vid, paused, went to download the first game, bought the second one and played them back-to-back. this is a really beautiful and underrated game series, eager to see more of it in the future!!!!
These kinds of videos are why this is now by far my longest consistently viewed channel. These more obscure games with cool concepts and the eureka moments the really good ones provide are just amazing. I like all the content, but things like this or N-Step Steve are what keeps me waiting for the next hidden gem and excellent video.
This game remind me of a series of flash game titled "Hoshi Saga/Find the Stars" where you need to find a star on every level. Some are obvious, some are tricky to find
7:21 I think you had it right, like the topmost up to the undermost leaf, but backwards (under to top). It you look at it, the pattern that worked was the opposite of what you had ordered your leaves.
7:20 when you put the white leaf (the you said to have the most holes) over any other leaf, you can see that the white parts aren’t the background but the leaf in itself. For that leaf, the only hole is in its bottom left edge. It probably goes with most empty area to least empty area. So first is the five holes, then the 2 holes with many tiny holes, then 2 holes, and then the 1 hole white leaf

2:00 The dice one is so obvious. The first letter is made by matching the cracks on the faces with 1 dot. The second letter is made by matching the cracks on the faces with 2 dots. For the G D C B, I think you "fit" or "match" the half circle edge holes together to form a sequence (the G edge cut fits with the left D one) :)
I was having trouble understanding,
But now I see! if you connect the leafs by the edge holes, only one match will make a perfect circle!
Correct
That makes sense! Thank you!
While not really a pattern-pattern, it does makes sense.
Really thought that the layers one would’ve been one.

I definitely want to see the second game, it was very cool to understand these puzzles over time and see your reactions too. Music was great aswell
the pattern for 7:20 is you connect them via those holes on the OUTSIDE, this creates a chain kind of thing that only works in one direction
