Nice! I used the 13" m1 to edit this video and holy cow this thing flies! A wild performance improvement, even in the most stock m1 you can get with no upgrades.
In the last year I bought two V2 Golden Age Pre 73 jr preamps and two Warm Audio FET 47JR microphones and those did the most to level up my recordings. Next thing will probably be better monitors but I gotta wait a while.
Lots of dope gear here! I got this sweet new air compressor that I’m pretty pumped about. No longer have to go to the service station to air up my tires!
love it! a lot of your upgrades are my goals… this year i upgraded my guitar from a behringer strat copy to a squire tele and mim strat, upgraded my bass from (nothing, stolen) to mim fender p bass. got my first patch bay, switched to ableton, traded a normal acoustic for acoustic w 1/4 out, and grabbed a 488 8 track and a little 4 track for cheap. also upgraded my cables and got a looper pedal , a vox pathfinder and a solid state mashasll amp ! :)
I think- good for you, that's a lot of nice gear. This stuff doesn't just fall into peoples lap, work hard, drive in the right lane, little luck. Im really happy for ya man, great to see a young guy making moves.
That's so awesome Andrew. Sidecars are so helpful when it comes to workflow... Especially if you are maxed out, lol. Also, the Apollo x16 is a BEAST!!! Thanks for sharing brother. Here's to another awesome year.
One of my favorite pieces of gear that I got this year that’s actually a Black Friday buy was a Peluso P-414, which is John Peluso’s take on a vintage AKG C-414 and it’s astounding. It’s become my new favorite vocal mic in most situations and it’s one of the few pieces of kit I have now that I genuinely get super excited to take out of its box. It’s incredible, I’m gonna have to get another in 2022!
Great job with this video! I'll be picking up the SSL UF8. The Diamond Studio tour made me want that thing bad!! Lol. You've got me intrigued by the Lauten Audio LS308. (The Eden was pretty damn solid). The WA73 is good (Have you tried the BAE 1073? You should get at least one lol)
Nice gear Andrew. I upgraded to focal monitors (Solo 6 Be) and they are incredible! My gear this year: Peluso 2247SE tube mic, Tegeler Creme and Mojave 301 FET mic. Love all of them!!!
A vid on your routing and signal flow would be awesome! I’m down for more in-depth videos. At this point I may need them more than the studio tours (they always end up costing me money!)
Yes! Please do a routing video. That is the next step for my studio and I would love to see your set up. I've also recently added some outboard pre's and compressors and I'm excited about the expansion. Thanks!
Great vid. You've got some killer stuff over there. The M300 is also my go to for most everything! Major upgrades this year were: Manley Massive Passive, Manley Stereo Pultec, Manley Variable-MU (T-bar mods), Dynaudio CORE 47s, Stager SR-2N matched pair, AEA KU5A. Hope you had a great holiday and best wishes for 2022!
how do you find the Massive Passive in combination with the Vari-mu? Been thinking about getting those for a year now, since I really enjoy using Acustica Audio´s Manley emulations
My biggest upgrade this year was a Stam Fet 47. Actually didn't have too many upgrades this year, as I've been focusing on getting better with what I have. But that 208 looks really good for it's polar pattern, just like the Beyerdynamics.
Thanks for the info and display of your latest acquirement of equipment. I really liked your video on your new Dangerfox genesis 24U. I liked it so much, I just ordered the walnut version. I’m new to recording and I have only one rack mount device to install, but hopefully in time I can add more. Thanks for the video.
@@AndrewMasters question about recording? I’m not sure if this requires a long answer, but because you are a drummer and know a fair amount about recording drums. I’m confused a little about microphones placed all around a drum kit. Doesn’t each mic pick up signals from the other sounds coming from the other kits, during playing? I always thought that was confusing when blending sounds with mic’s?
Congratulations on the fast growth of your channel. I think that is proof of how many people love studio tours. I think Colt has had his channel a fair bit longer than you but his channel hasn't seemed to be growing nearly as fast as yours. I love his content and watch all of his videos but you have good content as well with LOTS of studio tours and who doesn't want to see those videos? Keep up the good work and maybe save a few studio tours for Colt to do. :)
Great video Andrew! What happened to the video that you uploaded talking about doing a different method of treatment for your wall? Super curious to see how to implement that system.
I just got a couple of key pieces of gear for my studio: Dangerous Music D-Box+ (this thing is amazing - the converters are everything they say they are from what I can tell with a small amount of use so far; it's also built like a tank.), WA-273 EQ - haven't used it yet but I'm excited to see how it sounds. Feels really well built. WA-76 - can't wait to give this a go as well. WA Mix Bus compressor - looking forward to this on my mix bus. I'm going to finish hooking it all up today and then I need to write some music to put this gear to the test.
Question! Do you make/produce music for other people? I found you on Spotify! Do you have any more music, or is that it? This is so much gear, I am excited to hear some of your music!
Great video, your studio is really beautiful!!!! I love these kinds of videos!! - I’ve had both the MA200 and an earlier version of Focal-(love that switch feature)- great stuff!!! I have been curious about the warm gear i see a lot of it around….. mostly compressors and eq’s (those pultecs are beautiful - are they tubed??)……. I recently switched my entire setup to analogue- around a Tree Audio console- they are to me what you feel about Warm Audio- the other guy that i am really digging is a guy out of Chile- who hand makes replica gear- I have his 670, his 33609, and LA 2A/3A, a couple of 1073 500 series guys and recently purchased a pair of U47’s……. So not sure if you have ever seen or worked on any of the Stam Audio stuff- but there is certainly a lot of it here in Nashville…..
Thanks Joe, I appreciate it. I've seen pictures of your setup, it's awesome. Yes, the EQP-WA's are tubed. I've heard of Stam Audio, great quality if you can wait for it haha.
@@AndrewMasters i have seen some of the Pultec style eqs like the Klark Tecnichs with ICs so good to hear the WA is tubed, have you done some A/B ing with them- curious how they compare……. ??? A review in your future perhaps ;) one of the unfortunate benefits of the last 18mo- people purchase gear- and then when it arrives……. Their lives have changed - so the gear ends up on the market….. i do think Joshua has gotten much better at managing his orders than he was several years back- although i did wait almost 6 months for the SA23……. That being said- to be fair…… i ordered a set of new Pultecs and it was almost 7 months after paid in full…. And if you would like an CL1B- pay for it today- and you should have it 2024 according to Chad at Westlake……. So Stam has gotten most of the press- but other companies are finding themselves in the same boat…… Strange times indeed!!! Oh….. have you tried any of the Chandler stuff??
Don't get another x8p. Do what I did and get a Cranborne Audio 500ADAT and connect it to your x8p. Then fill it with mic pres you like. You'll still end up with 16 mic pres, but 8 of them can be whatever 500 series modules you love. Get a word clock cable and slave the 500ADAT to your x16 so that the x16 stays as the timing master.
I think I cut back in this more than I should have do to burn out. However I did some special projects that meant a lot to me and those who participated. The balance of client work and personal music creation is an important one to get right. How about you?
Hey andrew i love your content btw for your future studio tours why don’t you get in touch with Deryck Whibley of sum 41 he has an epic studio and I’m sure we all are gonna love it
@@AndrewMasters Hah, Fair call. I've got a mate the who's same. Everything he has is absolutely the best....until next week when he's brought something else even BETTER.
I got a Mg16XU Yamaha mixer (Love it) with Shure wireless headset mics. Is there a way I can route/group 6 XLR's through one preamp for a live setting? Or is this why we need many preamps on a mixing desk? P.S. What preamp is your favorite for vocals? Thanks Andrew for posting beautiful content
!!ALERT!! - Gear Porn Video... Hehehe... Love it! Would also love to hear about your video making tools and software. From lighting to editing and everything in between.
What gear are you looking forward to adding to your studio?
Getting a M1 MacBook Pro in a few weeks. I’m so excited for this
