No issues at all, beside idle being 100-200 rpm more. It's been a couple of months now since install, and I actually havn't had any problems. This is just my experience
I got a 3.7 manifold with throttle body for $87 at a junkyard off a 12 TL sh-awd pretty good price, even though it’s in tuned when it gets hot can’t notice much of a difference but when it’s cold out definitely pulls Harder and better throttle response too.
it's an upgrade nonetheless, even if you dont feel the performance. car may run more efficiently also, better gas mileage with a tune. Also, if you have a typeS (3.5L) it would be less noticeable
I love my 2005 6MT. I know what you mean about small differences being felt in these things. difference between a full and empty tank of gas is quite noticeable. i need to get the 3.7 manifold and throttle body for mine now 🤩
Good video. Nice and thorough instructions. For that connector on the throttle body, it looks like the the sensors are similar enough that you could have just pulled the sensor from your old throttle body and installed it onto the new one. That way it would connect to your harness connector without any shaving. The way you did it can work, but sometimes Honda swaps pins around in the connector between generations and causes a MIL. Glad you got it worked out.
If u were on acurazine, you would see that this was a popular mod many years ago. And the problems that thecarfiend had, were already known for only the 6mt, the autos don’t have idle issues. I installed both on my 6mt type s and had idle issues. Fixed 95% of the issue by swapping the motor and throttle position sensor from a 8th gen v6 accord j35 throttle body into the 3.7 zdx throttle body. All this information is available if u dig deep enough. Fixed 100% of the idling issue after hondata. Hondata may or may not fix the issue 100% without having to replace swap throttle body parts
Did you ever get a tune? Thinking about it ive wondered how your air/fuel ratios have been mapped considering you just stuck on a lot more air on a vehicle that was tuned from the dealership. But for a swap like this id definitely take it to a tuner shop.
Keep up the good work. I like how you explained the pros n cons. I daily my TL also and it's my cruiser. With gas prices the way they are, I'm keeping my TL stock. Still love her tho!
Car looks sick. I recommend EGR valve delete to go with the manifold. Deleting the egr smoothed out the rev hang and high idle issues for me, but I have an automatic 😢 so results may vary.
Very nice indeed, I always thought that the 4th-Gen TL had the prettiest engine bay out of all Honda/Acura products. I just love how the J-series V6 engine looks in general. But Acura took it a step forward when they developed the 4th-Gen TL. They just really wanted to make the engine the centerpiece if someone opened the hood & took a look. Kind of reminds me of how Apple develop their products… open one up & you’ll see what I mean.
Bro... you gotta do something about those idle hands lol. Put them down every once in a while! Reminds me of Will Farrell in Talladega Nights. "I'm not sure what to do with my hands. " All jokes aside, great video. Lots of info and tips. Makes me want to get started on my 3.2 swap for a 3.5.
Funny because people always make comments about my hands in my early videos. So I actually do it on purpose now to troll you guys LOL =] I appreciate the support tho
Great Job always have had a sweet spot for the 04-07 TL I had an 03 Maxima 6 speed manuel And my friend had a white 04 Tl we use to race all the time But yeah my manuel always got his Auto we always wondered How much better the manuel MT would compare to manuel 03 Maxi 😆 loved both cars - Mine was dark blue with black leather interior miss that car but now I drive a ISF thats been super reliable thanks for the video
Thanks for sharing. That sounds like an awesome race, both has close specs. Manuals are always more fun, imo. ISF is a great, reliable, and pretty fast car (Father-in-law has a Fsport RX350, super reliable and fast for what it is).
the 6MT has different gear ratios so it does pull harder for longer in each gear. also fourth gear is way better than on the auto. (based on the videos i've seen) 4th gear still weak though compared to the newer 8 speed 2.0T's. I watched a video where a nice 3.7 SH awd 2011 i think went up against a 2.0T accord, 2021, and a 2021 TLX 3.5 SH Awd. The old 2011 pulled them until fourth gear.
I put on an Acura 3.5 intake manifold and 3.7 throttle body on my 2003 Honda Accord V6 coupe. You should add on a P2R spacer, port/polished runners and high-flow cats. I just added those 2 things
Awesome man, that's a great upgrade for the Accord too. Full bolt on and a tune is my goal for the TL. In due time, I'm in no hurry and mod at my own pace
I’ve heard the P2R spacer doesn’t do anything tho coming from the manufacturer but if there’s a gain lmk but high flow cats are definitely worth it tho
Great build & honest review. How are the thermal gaskets working for you? I've heard of them having vacuum leak issues over time. Also, have you had additional issues since you did the swap? I have an '05 TL-base Aspec w/ P&P IM/Runners. Been considering this build for awhile with my setup. Any feedback would be appreciated, keep up the great content! 💯
Much appreciated. I tried to document as many cons as possible in that video. So far, so good. it's been a couple of months since install, and i drive the car daily. No issues, other than 1-2 loss in MPGs. No idle issues, no vacuum leaks, nothing. But this is just my experience. If I did have issues, I would most likely swap back to the stock 3.2 IM. since winter is around the corner and I try to avoid working on the car in the snow lol. So definitely keep your stock setup when doing this mod, in case you run into issues
Just passed up a white '08 TL-S manual. One of the smaller reasons i skipped it was no performance mods. This vid just came up on my FY page. Your car looks good and sounds great. Keep modding. 👌 Also, whats your MPG??? (before/after)
Much appreciated. And yeah, there's not much aftermarket support for these J-series TL's. But you'll be able to mod them nonetheless, with some creativity and skills
Edit: was your TL always manual? Your shifter box looks different than my 6mt. Anyways awesome build. Loving that even after a decade people are still modifying their 3rd gen TL's. Do you plan on supercharging your TL? I wish comptech still made that supercharger for the J32A3 I swear I should open a shop for fixing Acura TL's dashboards. Ive wrapped mine in a two tone alcantara. The only pain was grinding down the cracked areas after filling them. But having taking out my 06 dashboard multiple times I feel like a pro lol. I wish Acura had put more money in a better material dashboard.
Hey man, thanks for the detailed installation of the 3.7 manifold. I do have a question about the connector for the butterfly valve. Was it just a straight plug-in or were there any modifications done to it to plug-in?
@@thecarfiend11 oh yes, I saw that. I was asking more about the butterfly valve connection that sits on the intake cover instead of the upper manifold.
I have a scan tool that I used, along with a video I followed for the idle relearn. Scan Tool: amzn.to/3rXdKPn Idle Relearn: ua-cam.com/video/Of_llbYNwww/v-deo.html If you don't have a good enough scan tool, you can always bring to a shop or dealer to get your idle relearned. Car was driveable after the install, without the relearn (for my case)
I got mine's off RockAuto.com. It's OEM refurbished. You have to know which car the Intake manifold came from, so you can get the right one (they are generally the same with the 3.2, 3.5, 3.7 but sizing may be different)
When I did mine I used my plyers I gripped the hoses and twisted them side to side and they broke loose for others that’s don’t have a picc or scared to poke holes
Not sure, as I did not do any dyno before and after. Should add 5-10 Hp, in theory. Also could be even more if you add complimenting mods, like a cold air intake and intake runners
Usually connectors can be disassembled and repinned. Could look into buying the 3.7 connector for that sensor (or finding one at a salvage yard for free) then replacing it on your harness. Not sure though I'm new to this. Believe it or not I'm thinking about doing this to my 1st gen Pilot lol.
Yes, they can be repinned to the correct connector. But since both connectors are very similar, and I do not have the correct one, a simple 5 minute job did the trick
Who ever you got that trottle body from probably moved the butterfly valve and alter the valve causing the idle to fluctuate therefore you have to do an idle re-learn. Nothing wrong with the 3.7 TB. I also feel like the oem metal gasket for the runners are better and the paper TB gasket is better I never had any idle or vacuum issues doing this mod
I’m surprised you needed the purge solenoid mounting bracket kit, cause I think HeelToe Auto only lists it as a necessary part for the J37 intake manifold and throttle body swap, onto the 9th gen (13-17) Honda Accord V6 (J35YX).
@sebestiensoliz8831 I have a 2006 Acura MDX 3.5L. Can I swap out the Intake Manifold for a 2008 Honda Odyssey from a Mini van 3.7 Intake Manifold? And, do I have to cahnge the TB or can I use my stock TB?
how are you bro, your acura is very beautiful, sorry I would like to make that modification to my 2007 Acura Type S, apart from just changing the manifold, did you have to do any reprogramming? Or is it just changing the manifold and throttle body? Greetings.
Will this swap fit on a 2003 Acura tl type s I’m new to J series all I ever had was d series and b series and f series and there are hardly any videos on the j32s
I’m thinking I will just drill a hole in my 3” to 4” rubber coupler right at the throttlebody and getting a thin nut for the inside to secure in the iat sensor. Did you just push in the iat sensor in the hole? Is it secure? I think the threads on the sensor are m12/1.5 can anyone confirm this?
I remember the guys on Acurazine having issues and hiccups like throttle hang and what not when doing the 3.7L mani and TB. Have these issues been solved yet?
I have a stock Acura Kb1 05, not a mechanic or anything but I saw somewhere that a j37 could fit on the j35a8...is this true? Anything special need to be done other than jsut a few bolts(many) and removing parts and replacing? Also is it possible to put the j37 throttle body on the j35a8? Is that possible without doing any special work to the parts or buying additional smaller parts? And/or having to do things with the cpu of the car?
I'm not 100% sure if this mod will work with your RL. you would have to do your own research on that. But in theory, yes it should be plug and play. Since you have the 3.5L motor, you won't see as much gains I did (coming from a 3.2L). I've heard of other people swapping in the 3.7 mani and have no issues. I just had bad luck with a bad throttle body and relearn process
@@thecarfiend11 so I did somw research for a amateur car person, and saw that there's not much gains. However I'm wondering, even if I do buy a 3.7 intake manifold, and also TB, what would I do for the air intake tube? You look like you ha e some sort of CAI? also, I was trying to watch over and over again you talk about each sensor wire connecter, and how there was a slight difference. I'm wondering if you have any idea on what each does? And how my 3.5s wires format would be in relation the 3.7? Lastly let's jsut say I put in the air intake manifold an TB and get the wires good. Would I need to do some scanner tool things to see if it's running rich or lean, due to more air then it's used too?
Each sensor does something different. But it is important to have them connected, unless you want to manually bypass something and control it thru other means (aka standalone ecu). You dont really need an aftermarket intake. just need to make sure the intake tubing is connected. And you can solve that with an aftermarket tube, just measure and try to find one that fits. The car is gonna naturally run lean (more air than fuel). But the car's ecu can adjust slightly to it. you'll get maximum benefits if you can tune the car with a standalone ECU and gain more efficiency and power
Hey so I just did my 3.7manifold swap on a 07 base TL and ran into some problems. 3 codes popped up and after the car heats up the car will rev up to 2.5 RPM and then drop all on its own and it’s keeps doing without me pressing the accelerator Any advice
try doing the idle relearn process. mine's did the same thing. could be like my situation also and be a bad throttle body. double check all lines and do the idle relearn process would be my advice
If you can find a cheap 3.7 Intake Manifold and throttle body, This is DEFINITELY A GOOD BANG FOR BUCK PERFORMANCE MOD. Enjoy!!

For sure man. I'm waiting until I get ALL my performance parts in. Then I'll get a aftermarket ECU and tune

Idle Relearn: ua-cam.com/video/Of_llbYNwww/v-deo.html

What the name of that hose at 3:39?
Can you send me the info where you got your Air Intake System. The eBay link you posted is no longer.
Where did you get that cuppler for the sensor?
P2R 3.7 intake coupler from a 4th gen TL
Usually connectors can be disassembled and repinned. Could look into buying the 3.7 connector for that sensor (or finding one at a salvage yard for free) then replacing it on your harness. Not sure though I'm new to this. Believe it or not I'm thinking about doing this to my 1st gen Pilot lol.
Yes, they can be repinned to the correct connector. But since both connectors are very similar, and I do not have the correct one, a simple 5 minute job did the trick
@@thecarfiend11 how did you do the job? did you shave the outside of the female connector?
What if you already have a 3.7
Hey brother I know a stick 3.2l has like 260hp how much hp would you say this mod added?
I didn't Dyno it, so i don't have actual results. It's estimated 5-10+ added HP/TQ. Helps when you have complimentary mods also
Who ever you got that trottle body from probably moved the butterfly valve and alter the valve causing the idle to fluctuate therefore you have to do an idle re-learn.
I mean if you take the intake off of 37 do you have to take the injectors as well and get the car tuned for that...?
Did u found out?
@sebestiensoliz8831
I have a 2006 Acura MDX 3.5L. Can I swap out the Intake Manifold for a 2008 Honda Odyssey from a Mini van 3.7 Intake Manifold? And, do I have to cahnge the TB or can I use my stock TB?
@thecarfriend where can I find that coupling ? Thanks
Coupler is from a 4th gen TL. P2R 3.7 intake coupler
how did you shave down the connector at the very end?
I literally shaved it with a blade lol. You can whip out the dremel, but found it unnecesary. only took a couple of minutes
@@thecarfiend11 for sure. Im going to try this on my 05
how are you bro, your acura is very beautiful, sorry I would like to make that modification to my 2007 Acura Type S, apart from just changing the manifold, did you have to do any reprogramming? Or is it just changing the manifold and throttle body? Greetings.
Hey can you share a new link for the coupler please
P2R Silicon intake tube for the 3.7 TL..

Are you saying I can install a 3.7 Intake Manifold onto a 2006 Acura MDX 3.5L?
Will this swap fit on a 2003 Acura tl type s I’m new to
J series all I ever had was d series and b series and f series and there are hardly any videos on the j32s
It should be a direct swap, but don't quote me on that lol
@@thecarfiend11 lmao what’s your insta lol might be getting one soon if I need help I’ll dm u
Did you reuse the gaskets ?
As someone who has a 3.5(the Accord) would this upgrade still be worth it?
Not really, the cars are pretty much maxed. These mods mostly move the power curve, less at low rpm more at wot high rpm.
If it's an auto, definitely do the MDX spacer. Adds zero net power but gives a fatter torque curve down low which is sorely needed for an auto.
Where can i find the coupler im doing the swap as well
I used this one here from P2R..

I’m thinking I will just drill a hole in my 3” to 4” rubber coupler right at the throttlebody and getting a thin nut for the inside to secure in the iat sensor. Did you just push in the iat sensor in the hole? Is it secure? I think the threads on the sensor are m12/1.5 can anyone confirm this?
its a hack, but sounds like it could work. I'd be careful, because if the nut gets loose and falls off, it goes straight into the intake..
I remember the guys on Acurazine having issues and hiccups like throttle hang and what not when doing the 3.7L mani and TB. Have these issues been solved yet?
Yes, I have that issue, but it's not that noticeable. It really only goes away with a tune, from what I heard
@@thecarfiend11 I had throttle hang before my car was tuned. Drove me nuts. Let me know if a tune fixes those issues, it didn’t years ago. Good luck.
You need a foxwell scanner and do a tps relearn. @@sports_car_enthusiast
Did you use the j37 map sensor you need to dont use the j32 map sensor
Used J37 map sensor
Love the car, where did you get the coupler?
Bought off eBay. P2R 3.7 intake silicone coupler
3 codes popped up and after the car heats up the car will rev up to 2.5 RPM and then drop all on its own and it’s keeps doing without me pressing the accelerator
Any advice
The codes were
Po113
PO507
PO2279
try doing the idle relearn process. mine's did the same thing. could be like my situation also and be a bad throttle body. double check all lines and do the idle relearn process would be my advice
What the manual transmission are you running?
Stock manual transmission
Bro, put your hands down lol
Other that that good video 👌
Can I do this with the TLX-V6 also
I'm not 100% sure. You would have to do your own research for your specific model
Would the 3.7 manifold fit on a 04 tl?
It's the same motor. Yes
