  • I got this amp from a second hand store. It was obviously not perfect but I didn't expect to hear the tight fuzz sound on the overdrive channel. Is this a half-completed mod project or do champs always sound like this???

    Mine sounds exactly like this except my clean channel is like a 1 in a 10 chance of it actually working

      Interesting, maybe they’re more prone to fault than we first thought…

    Gain only works on gain channel on Fender amps has no affect on normal

      Ah ok. Does the distortion usually sound fuzzy like that?

    It's been gated somehow; definately been modified somehow. I have the identical amp. There is no gating effect but there is standard noise that comes with distortion drive. I use a few floor pedal and use the amp clean. I get an amazing sound out of this little monster

      Yeah it's a great amp. Even when it's faulty! I think the owner before me tried to modify it somehow.

      Kinda fun but lack of control is a big problem!

    Sounds like someone's messed with the overdrive channel. I'm curious what it looks like inside now. Any chances you'll remove the back?

      cj691 it’s long gone, sorry! I think I sold it to an amateur tech. Gearfacts

    it's the noise gate effect. maybe they switched the diodes for some zener types?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  5 років тому

      Possibly, yeah. There's definitely been a mod, it's not just a fault, I think. I like where it's headed though :) Gearfacts

      If you can afford the newer ones, maybe mustang series, I would choose them over the older types. But that's just my opinion :) Thanks for watching my channel! Gearfacts

    I have a 30 watt champ with the same set up and it's gain doesn't sound that fuzzy so you may have a worn out pot or some other issue . Could be someone tried to modify it ?

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  6 років тому

      Yeah maybe. I'm going to leave it as is, I like it :)

      The volume gain and master volume pots on my 25 amp GE rusted-out and damp wouldn't even work unless you turned it at full volume to send the signal to the pots I clean the pots and not works at all ranges but it still has that fuzz sound at full gain

  • @auntjenifer7774
    @auntjenifer7774 5 років тому

    That overdrive Tanner has not been modified its 15 watts got a low-wattage speaker and I presume you have the gain max out at 10 that's the way my 25 watt champ GE solid-state amp sounds more wattage than yours but sounds just the same.
