Fixed one of these recently, it had bad hum. The fault was bad joints on those large capacitors.

Good job saving that one. My living room has a music corner so the amp in there can't be big, ugly or rough. So the living room amp is one that everyone hates - the Princeton 65 DSP, my only pretty little amp. It does have an issue. The drive channel bleeds into the clean channel unless the drive knob is turned all the way down!

I forgot to mention it, but I think between this and a Frontman, I kinda prefer this because of the second input and the speaker out. I would not use the RCA jacks on the Frontman.

I replaced 9 of the electrolytic capacitors in my Squier Champ and it sounds great now. It used to have a hum and pick up radio stations, LOL.

At least you could play along with the songs on the radio!

Hi, great video, thanks! I've got this same amp and cleaned it up nice on the exterior, used contact cleaner on the input and output plugs. When powered on the light shines red and there's a sound. But when I plug in a mic with xlr cable and TS Impedance Transformer I get nothing. Could there be something up with the input jack maybe, or is it more likely there's a part in the case that's gone bad? Thanks for any input! 2:01

Input jacks are notoriously an issue on the earlier versions of these amps. If you have only tried a mic and not an instrument, try an instrument to eliminate the mic and transformer as potential issues.

It's got a pretty good hum. The preamp electrolytic capacitors are probably bad and need to be replaced. I just got one of these given to me. It hums at higher volumes too. I am going to try replacing the capacitors.

This is great. I've got a very similar amp and it's not been switched on for 10+ years.

my squire volume cuts of then on again...whats the issues?

Most likely answer is a dirty pot or faulty jack, both very common on these amps. Get some contact cleaner spray. It will come in handy in the future for your guitars as well.

I’ve used a couple. 409 for light jobs, and the Harbor Freight stuff in the large jug for heavier jobs and soaking parts. My latest for Tolex is convertible top cleaner. See the reviews on Amazon: amzn.to/3s23GIH

Get this I got scammed at a pawn shop for one of these exact amps and wouldn't let me try it out and sold it full price the distortion wouldn't work so I opened it up and these idiots decided to replace a blown fuse with a piece of copper and then had a problem with an input jack and power cord having cracked solder joints so I fixed it and it's perfect and would love to see how to improve it further

Glad you got it going. Sounds like a learning experience in more ways than one.

Can you confirm that the stock speaker is an 8 ohm speaker?
