Why are the villains of Forbidden West 1000-year-old space immortals with unhealthy fixations on people waaaaay younger than them? First it was Tilda wanting Aloy to replace her ex-girlfriend. Now it's Walter wanting Seyka's sister to replace his ex-wife. This isn't a critique. It's just that these space immortals are pretty effed up.
At this point they were never going to meet someone in their age bracket lol
They're immortal and modified to hell and back. Morals and age don't mean much to them as long as they get what they want. They drowned their boredom in VR for centuries doing...who knows what.

I watch this channel both as a walkthrough and it has been helpful, and as a way to see the full storyline of games, as movies, and I don’t mind spoilers, because often I watch to see games I’m not going to play or gave up finishing, I had my suppositions about Aloy’s orientation, I’m sorry for King Avad, not Erend , he knew he was friendzoned.
I personally get why people shipped her with Avad, but it just never read to me like it would work out. He's so pathetically needy. He's very polite about being pathetically needy, but that's still what he is. He'd be useless in any kind of fight. What would Aloy do with him on a day to day basis? He needs someone who is impressed by him, and Aloy... wasn't. She's been consistently shown to be put off by people who are awed by her. That's probably why she had more time for Petra than most, because Petra didn't defer to her in any way, she would just treat Aloy like anyone else and cheerfully flirt. And Petra was a no-go too really, because she couldn't keep up with Aloy either. Nothing about Aloy's character so far really suggests that she'd be into someone she'd have to take care of all the time.
It makes complete sense to me that she'd finally click with someone who can follow her lead by choice, but who doesn't need to. And the timing here makes sense too. Aloy needed to be willing to lower her defences and open up before falling for anyone at all, and she just wasn't in that place before now. It took her half of Forbidden West to even let friends in under her guard. She needed that growth first before she could be ready for more. Sometimes people just click because they're on the same wavelength and they see the world the same way. I thought the DLC did a great job of showing that happening for Aloy this time. Seyka gets lucky with the timing basically. She's the right person be able to get under Aloy's skin, and she met her at the right time for Aloy to be open to it.
People were fine with Varl and Zo moving in together within a few days of meeting. Aloy and Seyka worked closely together for at least several days before the romantic tension even started to show.

@@toamszkozak8822 Yeah, exactly. My personal read on Aloy’s character is that anyone who can’t keep up with her has no chance. She’s used to being alone. She’s comfortable with it. She’s just not going to fall for anyone who needs her to pick up their slack.
The only companion so far who should even have a chance with her would be Kotallo. And that connection always seemed more professional to me than anything else. He defers to her as a commanding officer most of the time. And neither of them show any romantic interest in the other. They just behave like comrades who like and respect each other.
Aloy doesn’t think she has time for romance, she’s not looking for it and people who are make her uncomfortable.
Only getting hit by an overwhelming attraction is going to get her past that at this point in her character development. A slow burn with an established companion might have happened eventually, and I get why some people would prefer that way of handling it. But I personally enjoyed Aloy getting thoroughly knocked on her ass by feelings she didn’t see coming. It humanised her. And it was just plain fun to see.

@@bolinvolovan3060 Yeah, Kotallo's great. I would've been fine with a slow burn with Kotallo in the next game if that had been the option they chose. Because it would've made sense given their characters. But I have to admit that I liked this more. And setting this up now gives Aloy someone to fight for right off the bat in the next game. So I'm guessing the writers have something in mind for that. I'm excited to find out what it's going to be.
Imo feel like this came out of nowhere compared to other interests aloy has had in both games.
It did. I’d much rather it be Talanah or Petra than someone we/she just met or at least made them hook up in the third game where they’ve spent more time off screen together.

Since this is multiple choice, I do wonder the canon option is. Aloy was always going to be bisexual no doubt, but this romance specifically again, did seem a tad sudden.

Yeah, like the other comments, wasn't expected to be spoiled by someone I've watched for a long time when I opened up youtube. This would have been better titled, ALOY And SEYKA scenes, without the picture of them kissing, and instead a picture of just them side by side or something. not a great move to do it this way. I figured this was going to happen but wanted to learn this on my own, i am only an hour into the DLC. The DLC is just a day old, people have not had time to get through it yet. Please be more aware of this next time, there are way too many spoiler pages on youtube already, don't put yourself in that category.

I like Seyka and GET why she's attracted to Aloy, but I'M GLAD Guerrilla gives us the option to turn the romance down because romance doesn't suit Aloy right now IMHO.
Sorry to disappoint but you can’t reject her. Your only options are “yes” and “maybe someday.” Aloy really likes her and you can’t change that. The romance is the culmination of Aloy’s arc in contrast to Sobeck.

"Maybe someday" is a soft rejection, as it doesn't guarantee commitment. It leaves the possibility open without promising anything.

I’m honestly not sure why so many gamers are surprised about alloy being gay. It obvious a lot of yalll lack social experience. Nearly ever encounter alloy had with a suitable male love interest she was short with them and showed little interest. However with females she was more open and engaged. Play back the two games and see what I’m saying. I always saw this as a possibility.
So she was sexist against men because she wasn't sexually attracted to them? Weird flex.
I dont disagree with her treatment of other characters, although I attributed it to most male figures in Horizon tending to be macho and belittling when speaking to her, so she had to be cold in response. I think thats a big part of Aloy's chip on her shoulder: she's not only an outsider in her tribe, but also a woman, and she's strong enough to hold her own as much as any man in this world could (which I thought was a very cool and empowering device)
It never felt like a romantic thing. Tbh it always felt like she was either asexual, or just not interested in settling down for romance because she had her own ambitions. I was cool with just not giving her any love interest. Having her suddenly fall romantically for another woman, in a DLC, feels kinda out of character for her.
In general, I think why Aloy's character doesn't vibe with as many people as other PS main protagonists like a Kratos, Ellie, Joel, Jin, etc is due to her too often feeling like her personality needs to check off boxes in her being "strong" or "empowering". All the characters i mentioned just now are extremely strong, but also really vulnerable. Aloy is almost never vulnerable, and even when she is it's usually resolved fairly quickly (I liked the way Forbidden West opened with her frustration, but less than halfway through that story they kind of.. drop that side of her?). This romance feels like another checking of some sort of personality box to have her appear relatable or inspiring, but for me it just has the opposite effect due to how it's done lol. If they were going to write a lesbian relationship, it should be with a main character and played out over dozens of hours or even several games. This just feels like Im watching a video game protagonist get a random babe because... she's got to since she's amazing?
Sorry for the long reply, just felt like a complex topic to discuss. I'm sure there are actual homophobes in the comments, but I think theres genuine criticism with how this was written
@@PantsaBear This is a very good take. I will note that she is flawed, in that she has a hard time opening up and trusting people. That was essentially the focus of her character arc for Forbidden West, trusting her group, opening up to Beta especially, and accepting that she couldn't do it alone. She may be strong and empowered, but they showed how brittle that could be. She spent 6 months chasing dead ends between games, losing precious time because she loaded it all on her own shoulders.
@@westrim I know she is flawed, just her dialogue and actions can sometimes have her coming off as the opposite. This is probably due to the game being fully open world where she can talk to any NPC at any time. Also, she's flawed in the same psychological ways Superman is flawed, which doesn't exactly make her relatable or empathetic.
I liked in the first game that she was an outsider for example, but she never *acts* like some outsider living in the woods for 80% of her life as a hermit. She speaks and acts like she's a General lol. Forbidden West helps that a little bit with the trusting friends thing, but you're still doing 95% of the game's tasks solo like a badass with a smile on your face. Really impacts how much I really feel like she's actually struggling. I get why people call Aloy a blatant plot device, and it's not just because she talks to herself too much (although that doesn't help things lol)

Literally doesn't even make sense for Aloy's history and personality. Why would she be into women? She was raised in a matriarchal society where she was shunned and degraded and cast out at birth, BY women! Her only role model and person she looked up to who actually cared for her was a man! You know, she goes from laser focus on her mission to this, they could at least have added more.. Should I or should I not, oh well, the world might end why not- inner-dialogue. It seems you can't actually completely reject Seyka like we could with the sun king and co, and that's a pity. I enjoyed playing Aloy as this serious person who's to busy saving the world to worry about feelings (team aroace, I guess, but anyway, I think most people in such position wouldn't lose their time on love when the entire world depends on your actions, even if it's just a game...)
No you're missing the whole point. Aloy rejected everyone because she didn't like like them. With Seyka she crushes HARD from nearly the start, she constantly tries to focus on her task and simply she cannot because she's thinking about Seyka all the time. And in fact even if you reject her it's not really a rejection, it's more "I feel the same but I don't know how" or "I feel the same but I'm too overwhelmed by the world ending". With everyone else she was like "ah...thank you...gottagobye". Seyka has just been written like the person Aloy likes as opposed to literally everyone else.

I love the Horizon series, but this felt forced honestly. Aloy up to that point was laser focused on her mission and systematically rejected anyone that even tried to get close to her regardless of the sex. Now all of a sudden she does a 180 with somebody that she barely knows? What the heck sony?
In my opinion it would have been better if they made her bi and put the romance options into the third game, getting both representation and giving freedom to the players.
Cause they know she is a lame character so the tried a hey look were allies move and Aloy will still be remembered as an asshole

I'm a bit burned out on the female lead being lesbian line of characters as of late. No hate on gays or lesbians but a romance option between the opposite sex would be nice to see in a game again. She seemed to have a few options available through out the series

I do however think her and Seyka was too sudden compared to other people who crushed on her and got shut down. I’d rather they date in the third than this DLC so they spend more time together but it is what it is.

If we're being honest here, which one has really been overused?

What you're really saying here is that you got used to being the target audience for pretty much every AAA game, and now you're not some of the time. Maybe get used to it? You buy one copy of a game. You matter to the developers exactly the same amount as any other person who buys one copy. Sometimes game developers will decide to use tropes that you don't personally prefer. They are not betraying you by doing this. They're just not making your personal feelings the priority when they make storytelling choices. Because, again, you only buy one copy and it was never being made specifically for you.

I had hoped for a lost legacy trip with the these two without any romance. It really feels very forced and rushed. Of course Aloy went through a massive character development- which I reaaaallly love. But she has always made it clear how important it is to her to complete the mission first and defeat NEMESIS before she can deal with it. So I find the storytelling unfortunate and contradictory. I would have very much wished that they slowly build up a friendship with Seyka during Burning Shores, and slowly integrate the theme of "love" and new feelings towards others in HORIZON 3, each of us has their own favorite NPC, that we want to see get romantically involved with Aloy. So I'm hoping Guerrilla will give us the power to decide who Aloy will bond with...we'll see..
