Here’s some of my favorite things about the Torso T-1 live performance sequencer. I’ve been using this for a few months now and it has blown me away and inspired so many new possibilities.
In this video I explain a few of my favorite features and do a few demos. Things like the MIDI sequencing, Euclidean Rhythms, snapshots, midi cc control, midi looping, control all, rolls & fills, making chord progressions and melodies and much more.
If you have any questions, let me know and I’ll make more videos to explain them 🎛️🎉🔊

This is the single best demo of the T1 that exists online.
Cheers! 🙏🏻😊
10000%
honestly it's great to see someone who really knows how to play live with it
I agree. I’ve watched the official ones and this one just gels it all together and makes me want to learn more.
So whats the best one?
Imagine these 3 in one box. The gear saga will never stop. It’s always going to be this way ; wishing for box #1 have a few features of box #2, syntakt to have a fat poly track, Roland to have a better sequencer more voices , torso with sound module… I thought deluge would be that box, but no …then you hit other limit/paradigm,such as “jack of all trades” so gear heads….shut up and get more gear, wishing for the oracle dream box would come …one day 😂
😅 I know what you mean. But I don’t think the perfect all in one box will ever exist. I kind like using 3-4 boxes tho. Then you get more hands on controls. And you can design your setup for what you need.
Great Torso demonstration, we definitely need more. 🎉
Agree!
Thanks! You got it 😎
Indeed!
MOOOOREEEE @@AnalogSolmusic
Love it🔥 please more!✊🏻
Great demo!
Thank you ❤
I really need to learn how to use mine 😅
definitely more T-1 videos please lol
Thanks for the great demo Stu! Hope you're well bud. Time to go ham with the torso!!
Cheers brother! Nice! 🎉🎉
Thanks for the video! Eying a hw sequencer and looking up the t1 came here, great insights!
Welcome! Glad you like 🎉
More please!
I’ve been intrigued and have followed Torso and led me to your demo here. Now I have a much better understanding of the possibilities. Nice command of the device! Beautiful melodic techno. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad I could help 🙂
Magic... This little thing is packed with so many features that I'm struggling to get my head around it. But slowly getting there. Your video helps for sure. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad u like it, and glad it helps! Yeah T-1 is magic indeed
Holy moly!
Ordered directly from torso... :D Great demo.
Nice! 🎛️🎉 have fun!
Maaaan. I’m always pairing my Syntakt with something poly and I’ve been eyeing a T-1 for over a year now. Cool to see you using it like I imagine. Might be time to start saving up!
It’s amazing! I think you will love it
Thanks for this video! They aren't that many videos on the T-1, like yours here, that show that the T-1 can actually make good music. Many jams are just weird or not particularly catchy or inspiring.
Thanks! Glad you liked it. There’s a bunch more on Tiktok and Instagram too
Nice video! I was dead set on the Oxi One but this is making me rethink which one to get haha!
Yeah, I considered the Oxi before I got the T1, but it can’t do some of these things and they are super important to me
@@AnalogSolmusic I'm also doubting between the Oxi or the T1, they keep updating both devices so it's hard to decide. Which features were the ones that you were missing on the Oxi? My setup atm is Syntakt, Digitakt, Roland Sh-01a + Roland SE-02
Torso is nice for some stuff but quite constrained for some other genres or when you want to write your own music. Having an OXI One with the best features of the T-1 would be a dream come true.
Nice demo, lost me a bit on the looping but seems like a great live tool.
Thanks! You can use the length function as a midi looper
I Just got a T1, this video was a major part of why I chose it! I am using a TR8s and an S1 and I am struggling on the setup end of things and getting everything to talk to each other and play nice. I would love to see a setup video on how exactly you hook everything up start to finish!
Nice one! 🎉 you will love it. Sure thing. I’ll put that video on the list. Should be easy though. Just set each track on T1 to send on the midi channel that the other boxes are receiving on. You can also change the receiving channels on the other boxes if needed
Also have the ST and the S-1 and your video made me succumb to GAS today and got the T-1. Those melodic lines you came up with are beautiful man
Awesome! You will love it. Thanks!
I really like the sound of the S1 - do you find it too small and fiddly?
Im just going to buy a Syntakt and Torso t-1 now. SO good!
😅🎉 you will love them
As someone who has started from the Roland Aira Compact synths I love to see yours on the video! So often what people are playing with isn’t always beginner accessible so I am glad to see an interesting piece of gear being used with something I actually own!
Yeah the Roland S1 is excellent!
Great showcase of T-1! You also make everything sound so musical which definitely helps.
One of the favourite things about T-1 is Turing machine-like looped randomness implementation, which means within seconds you can get randomness which is looped, just like you want it for electronic music. You should also try out cycles. That really add another layer to the tracks.
Btw, what exactly did you do at 15:32? You mentioned looped midi but I didn't really catch it. Are you playing with length knob on the midi cc track?
@@4lpinaThanks! Yeah I'm using the Length knob. It lets you set different loop lengths. Cycles is cool too, i use that for some things but not as much as somee of these other features
nice! makes me really interested in the torso
Oh man, I was just searching for some deep dive on your setup after seeing a couple of posts on your IG, and this video came up!
Love your style, and although I have a mighty Hapax sequencing a bunch of stuff, I now HAVE to buy the T-1 as well.
I remember when it came out, and wasn't particularly inspired by it, but I guess it came a long way since then, and now it seems to be exactly the sequencer I dream of to play some improvised melodic stuff, at least seeing what it can do when played by proper hands, like yours here.
The truly magic of it to me is that it can manage melodic progressions so easily, without the need to preprogrammed stuff behind him, like on a normal step sequencer.
And then there's a ton of cool features, more live playing oriented than most other stuff around.
Thanks for the workflow breakout, keep grooving!
Thanks! Glad you liked it. Yes it’s great for melodic progressions, changes, variations, fills and more. It’s fun to get the initial groove going but then even more fun to improvise with it. Really feels like you are playing an instrument and expressing yourself. Where as sometimes other sequencers feel like you are but stuck with what you have written and it’s hard to quickly change it in the moment
There were a bunch of button-combos in the video that I definitely didn't follow at all, but overal this looks like an extremely cool device! I've had my eye on it for a while but still on the fence at this point
Thanks! It’s amazing. Let me know if you have any questions
My dream is to have a randomizer like this. That's why I follow you. I dream about the sound you produce.
For me it is very expensive. Here in Brazil it is the price of a car. One day I can
Start with just Ableton on a computer for now. Then add a midi controller. You can do many great things with that setup
I just got my Torso T-1 - can get some nice rythms out of it, but all my melodies end up as random looping sound soup! Will be rewatching a few times to learn how I can fix this. Thank you for this, looking forward to see more!
Try using the MIDI looper or the restart locks on the Step page (hold clear to place pink restart locks)
@@AnalogSolmusic and here I was thinking I did RTFM o_O Where are both these things?
😅 all good. It does a lot. The midi looper is called “Length”. The reset locks are related to the “Step” page
@@AnalogSolmusic yes, it does sooo much, I've barely scratched the surface. Thanks for inspiring me where to explore next👍
@@peerblickdicht8401welcome! Have fun!
Cool, would love to see you start with nothing connected and show all the setup required to get it all rolling as one.
Good video idea. I’ll put it on the list
Very interesting device. Excellent explaining with enough examples, well done. I'm in the market for a sequencer and going back and forth with the Torso T-1 and the Oxi One. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks! Yeah the Oxi is good for writing in a usual studio way and some jamming, but the Torso is much better for live improvising and fast ideas
Awesome vid! How do you do the sidechaining?
Thanks! The Syntakt can do that internally
Thank you dude this is super useful, I'm getting one of these in a few weeks! BTW, your kick, what is it? It's really nice.
Thanks! I made the kick in Syntakt
@@AnalogSolmusic so nice dude, please make some sample packs your sounds are really good!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hey Sol great demo of this little beast. Wanted to ask you what watch youre wearing I cant pin point it :)
Thanks! It’s a Dan Henry
So good thanks for sharing - recently got a OXI One but I'm finding it a bit clunky and menu driven .... more pads yes but I find that a bit visually confusing. Twisting a know per perimeter or density feels and makes more sense.
I'm think I'm going to swap them out and get the Torso, it is so more immediate and intuitive. Sold the Syntakt for and Analog Four M2 and now wondering if that was the right choice, maybe the S1 would have been a better, more economically choice.
Thanks! Welcome! Yeah I think you will prefer the Torso too then
Can u do a video showing how I set up the t1 with the syntakt?
Sure. I’ll put it on the list
Thanks for the demo, this looks awesome ! But can it funk ? Does it have a swing control built in ?
Welcome. Yes indeed. Swing, delay offset, velocity, accent, and loads of other ways to be expressive
Great overview! What overlap does the T1 have with the Polyend Play, sequencer wise, deciding which to buy.. ?
Thanks! Not sure. I haven’t used the polyend play. Only seen videos. There are a few similarities but the T1 goes much deeper on the live tweakability of the midi and writing. It is purpose built. Also has dedicated knobs. Very important for live
holy shii
Hi iam a huge fan of your video. Can you just explain how you changed CC assignments on external device I just can't understand how it works
The torso T1 let’s you set CC per knob
Hey! Thanks for the great insights. I‘m a happy owner of the T 1 and a Syntakt myself, but am somehow failing to cc control the Syntakt via Torso (it’s working flawlessly with midi-notes, though). Can you give me a hint on where to find a helpful resource to set this up?
Welcome! You can set the cc numbers on the t1 itself. It is in the manual under midi
Great video dude - Im torn between the T1 and the OXI One, I wonder if you have any experience with the OXI and if so thoughts on a comparison?
Thanks! I was too before i picked Torso. I haven’t used Oxi but I watched a lot of videos.
Some of the main reasons i picked Torso were the Mute and Temp options. As far as i can tell, Oxi can’t do that. Those features are super important to me for live improvised performance. I show them in this video
Also the torso has more knobs, and no menu diving. And a bunch more. I’m super happy with my decision.
But, if you are mostly writing in the studio, then the Oxi is totally fine. And depending on the way you perform live, it might be great for that too. Many people do use it.
I have them both and they are very different beasts. The OXI One is a full blown sequencer plus generative and probability functions that I personally find easier to get a hold on. To me the T-1 leans more towards the performance and experimentation side.
@@AnalogSolmusic I’m not completely sure how the Temp option is used, but you can at least mute steps or tracks and go back to previous states per Undo function on the OXI One easily too.
Thanks for the advice, Im still burrowing deep into the rabbit hole, I will probably go with th eT1 as its cheaper than the OXI plus.
I like the thought of it being good for live performances... now Yamaha have dropped that new toy and my focus has moved to a whole new machine... hahaha, first old problems - thanks again
@@AnalogSolmusic
Hahaha, that doesn't really help dude, which would you get first if you were someone who hasn't had a hardware sequencer before? Thanks again and thanks for the subscribe - your number ten! Yay double figures
@@PantaFlux
Hello! Just got a torso of my own! How did you connect the S-1 to the torso? I’m new to midi stuff
Nice! Connect midi out of torso into midi in of S1 with a stereo cable
@@AnalogSolmusic excellent! And how did you get your torso t-1 to send the midi signals specifically to the different drum sounds per track. I can get the s-1 to go but my Roland T-8 can seemingly only seperate the bass track out at the moment
Hmm, on Syntakt you can set a unique midi channel for each track (or drum). Hopefully there is a way to do that on the Roland TR8S
Hello Analog Sol. I can't seem to find the answer :-) How do I sequence the Analog Rytm with an external sequencer like the Torso? Midi in helps to sync the clock, but I can;'t sin the bd, the sd etc etc ....What do I miss? In the Midi config I checked the box Clock receive and Transport receive,,,,What do I miss? Please some guidance :-)
Got it!!😎
Glad to hear 😎🎉
@@AnalogSolmusic Learning a lot from your Torso T-1 video
Excellent. Glad you like 😎
Did you test the Oxi One?
Yep. There’s some replies about it in the comments
How do you assign the CC's?
You can do it on the hardware. It’s in the manual
does it also do chords?
Confused how you'd mix out/transition though.
If u have pre written patterns you can just switch patterns. For me, these days I play much more improvised now (due to being inspired by the T1 and it was always my goal) so I am constantly evolving my Melody’s, beats and sonics. There is no real mix out. It just morphs
How do u go from one song to another with a different set of sounds say?
You could change the kit (pattern) on Syntakt at the same time as the pattern on T1. Or use a program change midi message
@@AnalogSolmusic nice !!!!
That Roland snyth sounds cool. I got the j6 and the t1 gonna get it going with the syntakt. Have u thought about adding and fx box of some sort for more dj style transitions? Something I'd like to do. Like risers and long reverb tails etc . Anything u recommend? Thanks for doing all these vids very inspiring .
Thanks! Nah, I have too many things and not enough hands already 😅 I don’t use any sound effects. I just use my delay and reverb sends and tweak my synths. That lets me make tension and builds etc
@@AnalogSolmusic nice nice it sounds awesome. Be cool if u could show how u might transition to a new song . :/)
Sure thing. I’ll post some longer T1 jams soon
Doesn't sound any different from any other kind of ambient synth sequencing that was going on in the 1990's. .. and so what is the raison d'etre should you not be capable of demonstrating any sound not capable reproduced 20 or 30 years ago?
