- A big, deliberate, step-by-step tutorial on how to do almost everything on the Torso T1 sequencer. From 00:30 onwards we talk about HOW to set it up from scratch, then from 11:49 onwards how to make music on it. Everything is chaptered so you can skip around. MIDI visualised. Notes onscreen for deeper functions. // 👉 T1 jam video: • A pure hardware synth ...

I love my T-1 ❤ and keep finding new way of using it.
Thanks for the video. There’s lots of tips I hadn’t tried before. Looking forward to giving them a go!
That’s so wicked - thanks Tony and you’re half the reason I wanted to try this out!! 🙌
Best Torso Video for me, Thank you so much! Would be nice if you might do another one with a deeper dive in some things like random function. How to add different randoms to different functions and ho to make randoms looped into maybe 8 steps.
Agreed. Also how rate & cycles interact with random (per function) and how this can be used creatively.
Anyways Alex, best and most inspiring T1 tutorial out there (as everything else you touch!). Congrats! S4’s coming soon? Would be awesome 🥳
For whatever reason, the T-1 is the sequencer that has spoken to me and makes the most sense to me. Great video demo!
Best tutorial yet on this thing, keep it up!
That's what I've been waiting for. I hope you make a whole series out of it my Hero!
Awesome video Mylar!! :) ... just a tip for watchers, the double tap 'Ctrl' function needs to be turned 'on' using the T1 conig tool.
Best tutorial i've ever seen on the T-1, invaluable. Thank you.
Wow! This is the best explanation of this sequencer. Thank you for doing this! 🙏🏾
Definitely one of the better T-1 tutorials, I thoroughly enjoyed it, thanks!
Outstanding tutorial! Thank you.
Finally a really good tutorial on the T1. Thank you so much!
Well done. Very well done!
Yes!! Visualizing the midi is so helpful for the voicing/range stuff especially. One other fun thing you can do is hold Pattern and change some parameters, and it will affect all tracks in the pattern - great for midi looping stuff, or a key shift etc. Such a fun sequencer. Great walkthrough mate!
Fantabulous, excellent tutorial.
New to your channel and must say you have a rare gift for this stuff, mate.
Great tutorial, thanks! Such an amazing device.
The best tutorial out there for real, helped me a great deal with my new T1 , thanks!
Excellent! I've been struggling with mine, this has really helped.
Great tutorial, I love the T1❤
I’ve just bought one of these second hand. I love the look of it. I’m going to pair it with my NDLR, when that comes back from repair. The two together are going to be great.
Superb video - great presentation at the right pace, making something reasonably tricky very understanable - thanks!
Thank you thank you thank you. I got my T-1 when it first came out. Then version 2 came out, and it seemed that everything I knew was obsolete. I love that you take your time explaining things clearly. You take care that we can see the buttons, their colors and your hands are not in the way. Excellent job!
Great and succinct tutorial. Surgeon used the T-1 to sequence his gear on his latest album Crash Recoil. Worth checking out if you like that kind of thing. He's a big fan of the T-1.
Nice step by step tutorial :) T1 is a very organic sequencer but it really shines when used with polyphonic voices. Works also very nice with modular. Thanks for taking the time to share :)
Okay, I understand the hype for T1 now. And your educational visuals are ace! 👏🏻
You are an incredible teacher. Thanks so much for this.
Picked one up the day this video came out, serendipitously & wicked init 😊
Killer tutorial on this beast
This is SO useful, thank you very much!
I've just bought one of these today so this is super useful thanks.
Ahh banging, that’s what it’s here for!! Hope it helps and do let me know how you get on
Thanks Mylar. That was really useful. Inspired me to buy one, and just figuring it out now.
The midi visualizer was very helpful.
Very tempted!
Great coverage of this. I got the T-1 a few days back to integrate with things like my Arbhar. Currently got it working with my Maschine MK3 and Ableton over sync.
The challenge I'm trying to work out now, is I can get 1 bank / set of patterns to map the 16 drumpads to the T1 (over 16 channels), but the moment I switch to a different group, it fires off on both groups simultaneously. Once I've worked that out, it's going to be a match made in heaven.
Awesome. Not so hard looking to learn after this. Thank you!
Needed this in my life so badly
Best video on T1 ❤
I have one as kickstarter backer, but haven’t had enough time to use and explore. This tutorial is really helpful to get started 🔊
Great with some insights on Lenght, Quantize and Temp, Thanks!
Think this video has sold me on the idea of ordering one once they are back in stock.
Repeats to self: "I do not need another sequencer. I do not need another sequencer. I do NOT need another sequencer" 🤣 who am I kidding, will prob try this out at some point, looks super fun lol
Perfect Circuit has them in stock if you’ve got GAS pains…
I do not need another sequencer, I do not…. Ok let’s do 12 month financing and start paying next month 😂
Great demo. Seems ideal for anyone interested in live performance in genres like techno, certainly makes things much easier.
Great video, thanks
Brilliant! 🙌
Brilliant ! Thank's
Oooh, nice one Alex. Just ordered one of these a few days ago, so guess I'll sit down with this video when I get it. 👍
kinda tweaking tonight, but will watch this soon. thanks for putting in the work to make such a good refresher video on the t1
amazing. thank you man, seriously. this is just what I was looking for when I first picked mine up. Cheers m8, guess i know what I’m doing this weekend…
oh and big ups the glare-ups slippers techno massive ✊🏻
This is the video I’ve been waiting for…
Perfect. So usefull. Thank you very much. Now i feel Like a pro :)
Doing the good work here! Feels like that brain to techno interface is one step closer 😀
great, thanks!
that midi visualization is brills
Thanks love, that's MIDITrail!
This and OXI One are my fav sequencers
Thanks!
Thank you and happy sequencing!!! 🙌
Jesus Christ. Finally someone does it and who better to do it than you 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great tutorial! Thank you!
Absolutely idiot proof exposition, without being laborious. Cheers!
Just love the slippers in the iPhone footage at the end. This is the hedonism I came for 😂❤
Middle age has well and truly got its claws in me
Amazing demo! Now do the S-4! 😉
Dope👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
thank you for this!!! i needed this. for me, the manual made it look so complicated and
boring. i understand so much of it now.
I love my T1
Yaaaaasss mate! Lovely job!!
Thank you for your help on this - hero!
This has also reminded me to thank you in the description! And link to Patch The Card Game which you created and is fantastic - folks should check it out: www.patchtcg.com/︎
@@mylarmelodies ❤️❤️❤️
Excellent T-1 tutorial! Have had it since the first Kickstarter batch and love it, and still got a tip or two out of this video. Perhapes the next video on T-1 midi-CC? ;-)
Thanks!! May struggle to find the time but if anyone makes the spiritual add on MIDI CC (and anything else?) vid I’ll happily link it here
You can use temp and mutes together. Works like a charm for buildups
Dammit! Now you're forcing me to go buy another sequencer! hahaha Thanks for the vid, very in depth but also fun along the way... as usual.
well, I bought it... It's amazing. Thank you!
This thing is epic.
Now I know Torso! ❤
I have one sitting here on the shelf unused ... time to get it out and rewatch this superb 👍👍👍 tutorial 😅
Poifect. Yes see if you can follow along? Hoping it all makes sense!!
Interesting . I’ve been doing similar but using Maschine+ it works well. This has a totally new approach to melody and rhythm. Very interesting… 👍
I've never known a sequencer to do what I couldn't write within a few minutes, but the T1 used with delays, or something like the Microcosm, could potentially stand in as a second musician. Quickly changing chord progs on it, while I'm playing something else (melody), is literally like having another musician there. Bad ass!
Wonderful tour, and this doesn't even cover the MIDI FX and CV tracks available on top of the core functions you demonstrated... 😆 Such a deep, well thought-out tool.
Yeah totally - someone needs to do just a MIDI CC/CV input vid!
Nice run through, thanks! Just wondering if its best to clock this to the Pams or the other way round - have tried both?
I've tried clocking PAM's from a Digitakt before, you need a DIN converter cable if you want to use midi, otherwise, the start and reset CV signals should do.
Thanks for the vid lots of tips. What midi visualizer are you using to see the notes?
It was Miditrail!
Can you program note slides?
Regarding MIDI connectivity - can you pls help with MIDI In? I would like to send MIDI notes via MIDI in on T-1
Can you export / save the midi tracks to a DAW or would you just play the T1 and record???
I saw a friend”s T1 and was intrigued. Unfortunately they are out of stock and no mention on the website if they plan on making any more.
Sure they will!
Does it have solo?
Thanks for the video😊 In the editing channels/scales chapter are these channels the same as tracks? Or is it midi channels I am a bit confused
So the buttons 1-16 have the note data in them, they're actually called 'tracks' - and then you can choose which MIDI channel each TRACK outputs on. And you can choose to output on more than one MIDI channel at once!
Thanks got it. Just got confused because you call it channels instead of tracks 😊
Yeah my bad there!!
Voicing is chord inversions, right?
This is great, are there any issues with syncing / jitter with ableton? It all sounds perfect in time to me.
Nope - at least not for me! Rock solid via Ableton Link, and also, not shown here, but I also linked it via USB to Ableton and did a big Ninjam jam and it was rock solid throughout that. Timing wise it seems spot on.
@@mylarmelodies oh nice so with ableton link u still need to connect it to the computer via wire or ableton sync just does syncing (doesn't transmit midi data / notes I mean )
@qwertySnowy Ableton Link uses wifi so no physical connection needed! They just need to both be on the same wifi network
This was quite a performance. Oh, it was a tutorial alright, but the presentation was first rate. Reminded me of my visiting The Magic Castle and attending a ‘close-up’ magician doing his routine which was delightful, because it was done right before our eyes, and yet surprised us. Right about the time I was ready to yell at you for ‘stop with the droning melody’, you tweaked it, with the t1 and it became well, interesting. Kind of like the close-up magician did with just a few simple moves.
Now comes the ask. Please do something like this with the Squarp Hapax. I’m still finding it a bit too much to wrap my mind around the many options and procedures for this instrument, even if I’m aware it’s probably more straightforward than I’ve made it. Could you do a ‘performance’ for the Hapax like you did for the Torso t1?
Thank you and yeah I structure and edit trying to retain how a viewer would perceive it, if I’m bored, someone else will be!
Hopefully someday will check out the Hapax, looks good!
What’s the functional difference between sending, say, midi on track 1 to 1, 3 and 6, vs just setting 3 different synths to receive the notes from track 1?
Flexibility really, that’s all
Can you recommend a good midi visualizer for MacOS?
Synthesia or MIDITrail.
And it has Ableton link!!!
so... an autoacompaniment machine. Something like those keyboards you used to get back in the day, where you could go into split mode and have the left hand play instachord-vamps while the right hand played the tune, but without the right hand.
There must be something musical it can do, but at the moment I'm not seeing it. I'm sure I'm missing something because people seem to think highly of it.
Thanks for the demo.
It's a midi sequencer so you can control multiple synths or Eurorack modules from a single user interface. He created chords with it, also you can program melodic riffs as well with it.
So no real-time recording tho?
Just bought one. Thanks for the vid. However, i think u skipped over how to assign the actual instrument to a track?
Just set the track to the MIDI channel that corresponds to the MIDI channel your instrument responds on - or for CV and Gate stuff you set what track that gear responds on in the software editor
So for example channel 1 can be set to session instrument 1 in ableton, channel 2 to session 2, etc? Because thats what I figured, it’s just not doing that 🤔
Odd question for you sir: do you use a close-mouth mic by any chance?
You know what, I do
@@mylarmelodies ta, you just won me a tenner :) That won't help me with the fact that I've sold my T-1 and am pondering if I missed something with it now
Well looks like you’re already on the road to saving up for another one!
@@mylarmelodies I’m blaming you :) fantastic demo and explanation, wish I’d seen it sooner. Big thanks!
I've never thought of Robin as particularly round, I will be honest.
The American Robin isn’t very round, but the British Robin is round!
Affiliate link used. That should get you out of the “poor house” and into the “Pour me more!haus” …. 😅
One can dream!! Just 'not lose my haus' would do...
amazing. thank you man, seriously. this is just what I was looking for when I first picked mine up. Cheers m8, guess i know what I’m doing this weekend…
oh and big ups the glare-ups slippers techno massive ✊🏻
We should get this guy and Octatrack and see what happens
Got one!! 😜
Cheaper USB only version would be nice.
Wouldn’t be much cheaper. And I wouldn’t buy one without midi. Expect I’m not alone, hardware gear needs midi 👍
Muuuuum - heee's bleeping again!!
But I like my wrong notes.
You could make it play nothing BUT wrong notes if you wanted
If loving these notes is wrong, I don’t wanna be right….
Not going to pretend. You lost me about half way through. Bloody heck, it seems complicated...
There is a lot to it!! But you ultimately can just turn knobs and see what happens
I really want to connect my jomox alpha base to this.
Thanks!
Thank you!!
