I have an S4. Unbelievably I’ve had no issues. Yes the ‘coming soon’ aspect is piss poor, however, now I can midi sync it I don’t feel like I’m missing anything, I’m still making great things. When all buttons function, that will just be a bonus. I love it.
I have always appreciated the harmonic sweep they do for the TNG and Voyager sound effects. Especially the way the harmonic emphasis still swirls-around as they fade it out. To be honest I’ve thought about trying to recreate it a few times. I think they primarily used FM synthesis for the sound effects, the forcefields and phasers also have a distinctive harmonic swirl/shimmy like they were modulating operator ratios. (Even if I didn’t get there, I’d hopefully learn something!) Oh wow, okay, I just got to 15:00 and the vague harmonic shimmer became an almost-TOS-identical chorus-hum-whistle thing like the transporter effect. That’s cool. Maybe I’d try to make that on analogue too 😅
@@phatplates very different if you're talking the +FX, that's very specific in it's usage case (but I love that thing too!). I have it wired into a patchbay and use it as a looper, multitrack recorder, FX unit and sample editor (passing back and forth between this and the Octa and a Blackbox)
I may give the S-4 another try. I bought one earlier in the year, but the firmware was in rough shape at that time (so sold it). It sounds amazing here, and the device has a lot of potential. I'm rooting for it!
I was just about to sell mine, pissed off that half the functions were 'coming soon'. And no midi sync? WTF! I held onto though and after seeing this vid, I'm glad I did.. Let's see what the new firmware will improve.Supposed to be out next week.
I'm super interested in the S4. I'd like to see how it handles matching BPMs of different tracks. On top of being an awesome granular synth/sampler i think it could be really fun as an experimental DJ setup

My first thought was that s-4 sounds like those insane textures from old CD libraries, Distorted Reality etc. Very impressive. But damn I wish this was a groovebox or something, not a dedicated instrument
Followed this one for so long. The release was so lack luster. It seems like it does a few things well, but it doesn't seem fair that they released such a half baked product. I still really want one, but man........
@@neilsmyth635I really enjoyed my time with the tasty chips gr1. the 1010 lemon drop also calls my name, but I’m yet to own one. I will soon I’m sure. I tend to just stick to a few different norns scripts for granular and use my arc and grid or my faderfox ec4 for controls. Also use my 1010 Blackbox in granular mode which is rudimentary, but gets the job done. An iPad probably your best bet too. Literally, anything but this S4

How do you use them together? Can this replace analog heat?
