Average people have zero concept what that weight means or feels like let alone for that many reps. All sets. The great Bill Kazmaier behind Tom tells you Tom was definitely the real deal.
@@SuperDeathbodywarm up. Legs are the biggest muscle group. Divide the weight in two halves. I really think he definitely could have done 1k lbs for 1 rep.
He was a beast and a young beast at the time.. I'm somewhat normal person as I use to do sets of 10-12 w/ 405lbs but as I've aged I struggle doing 50 reps of air squats! Youth!
Tom had the perfect frame and height for it. He was about 5'7, short legs, low center of gravity, great ankle flexibility, long torso, waist was on the thick side. Lou Ferrigno was about 6'5 and a half, 6'6 and it showed when they stood next to each other.

The PROFESSOR. I compete in DEADLIFTING and most recently, Olympic lifting. Tom in me HUMBLE opinion is the greatest SQUAT MAN ever. PERFECT TECHNIQUE. He's the reason I brought my stance in.
Best way to shut him up would have been for him to embarrass himself by following right after Tom and and half what he just saw the man do. Easier to run that mouth than move that weight
Tom represents a time when men knew and understood intrinsic nuances of exercise physiology and the way the body works. Unlike today's fitness crowd who thinks gains only come in a bottle.....
Yea, I think Kaz was shamed over it because he knows he couldn't do it... and has a hard time justifying it in front of people when confronted with being asked if he (a former wsm) could do it.
Any of these power lifter guys who are trying to break this record they don’t squat like an Olympic lifter so it’s not even close to the same Keep dreaming powerlolers
Remember kids , lifting ultra heavy weights do bad to you than good to you , its always medium weights that make you muscular dont feed on this bullshit content .this is the past bro science without any studies
Bro lifted that much and really said “I wasn’t trying to break any records, I was just messing around.” What a legend

Actual Platz Squat rep records as I remember them from his interviews: 15x635, 50x405, 10 minutes x 225 (lbs).
You know you made it when you have to count your 100kg squats in minutes instead of reps
350 for 52 reps
135 X 100
225 X 75
315 X 50
405 X 35
more pyramiding
675 X 10 final set
Jesus Christ! What?!
What kind of psychopath squats for *10 MINUTES?!?!*
He did a dropset and still set the record wtf
Going heavier and then back lighter with some rest will make the lighter weight feel less heavy😊

I think kaz said himself though that he believes that the weights were fake

The form is incredible. It's pretty much all quads and no glute. Also he doesn't incline his torso the slightest.

Its cool that Bill Kazmaier is his spotter!
Kaz maintains to this day that he thinks Tom was using fake plates. To be fair, Kaz also notoriously buries anyone stronger than him, so 🤷♂️
Tom Platz. The guy I wish was my friend!!!!😊
Even his music has muscles
Bro had Kazmaier spotting him too 😂
The eagle is so passionate. He always has been! Awesome guy!
Haha you can see in that smile that he in fact was having a great time it’s always nice to see people like him performing
I love Tom Platz so much
Kaz, the big dude behind him suggested the plates used may have been suspect.

Squat form is immaculate. Knees over toes! What you heard about knees behind toes is bs!

Tom was good at high rep sets and admits he wasn't so good at low rep sets.
Mate I wish he won he’s so sick!!!
Arnold lame for what he did 😢
405 for 50 reps is fucking crazy
Scary thing is Tom did this with very few pauses between reps. If he had done breathing squats at the end he could have eeked out 30 reps.

Matt Wenning broke the record about a year ago. Check out his video, I believe he did 525x26
