Great video - I would add that unless the full bottom of the tub is sitting flush on the floor, it would need to be installed seated in a bed of mortar. This method would pretty much guarantee no cracking. Unfortunately, I cut corners installing my acrylic tub and it started cracking a lot after a few years

I like your video production style. It's very condensed and polished. However, I wouldn't use the silicone sealant on the drain threads. You know how hard that's going to be to replace one day.
If you ever need to remove the threaded tub strainer, good luck. The silicon on the threads and under the chrome flange will lock it on forever. Great video.

If your from Texas, Jeff isn't operating from a different part of the country...he's in Ottawa, Canada. Yes...this is an installation over joists which could be a second floor or a first floor over a basement or crawlspace. Canadian building code doesn't require an access panel or shut-off valves for a tub and shower installation, but it's always recommended if they can be provided. The mortar bed provides stability, especially preventing any flex from acrylic tubs and it aids to eliminate that hollow sound when showering.
I've been remodeling bathrooms for 15 yrs, you got most of it right. You didn't use a mortar bed on that acrylic tub. You should have installed the framing support for doors after the tub was in, your viewers definitely need to know that part. You conveniently left out footage of actually lifting and setting the tub. You can use an oscillating tool or angle grinder to radius the corners of the skirt to ease installation, an extra inch goes a mile and it will protect the corners. Oh and no you will never actually see the corners of any tub skirt after finish work is completed. You also failed to point out that you had to remove sheetrock and outside corner bead to set it. What if your viewers are not working near an outside corner? You could have raised the subfloor and overlapped the tile, rather than cut the tile floor back. We never got the chance to see a level set on the tub rails. Does the subfloor need to be patched back in to avoid one of the feet being left unsupported or if on a crawl space sealed to prevent pests and cold air from entering? How do you leak test the slip joint drain assembly? Guess I should stop there because people are going to call me an asshole, but I've done this thousands of times and made alot of mistakes along the way.

Thanks for the nice instructional video!. Only qualm I have about copper drain pipe is that they corrode. Major problems in old condos with old corroding copper drain pipes. And that flexible copper pipe looks like it's not going to last
I agree with you on that. I had a rental property where my renter kept putting Draino in the drain and it destroyed the traps under the sinks and metal tub drains. It was a very expensive fix under that tub! Grrrrrrrr!
Hey Jeff, did your brass kit come with the pvc to brass adapter? Also, could you share the make and model of the brass kit you used in this video? Isn't it great that your 2 yo video is still teaching? Thanks
That is a great video. I recently had a small leak from underneath my bathtub. I tried putting some new plumbers putty on the drain, but while screwing it back on, I managed to cross thread it. The pipe was plastic and not metal like yours in this video. What should I do ? Can I fix this on my own? Is there a way to fix a cross threaded plastic pipe? Thank you!
Hi Sarah, the only Option you have is to apply silicone to the drain and the threaded pipe and install cross threaded and hope the silicone seals it. otherwise you need to open a hole in your ceiling and install a new fitting to receive the drain. Cheers!
Thanks for the great explanations... Was about to ask why silicone versus plumpers putty on the drain, but you answered right after! Great video! Cheers!
Pro tip: Install a tub that is deep enough for a good bath, 20 inches is good. The cost differential between a shallow tub and a deeper tub is slight. Opt for the deeper tub.
Jeff, love your videos. I've started to gut my bathroom and your video have been very helpful! I got to the drain/over flow line, and found the metal pipe had rusted away. The previous tub would flood underneath as the drain line did not connect to the drain hole. Now it is just a hole in the concrete floor. Not sure exactly what to do from here

Lay a bed, 1 to 2 inches thick of any standard mortar which is cheaper than Thinset. Where can I buy the drain kit or something similar? (Adjustable )
Tub install was complete and flooring put in, but after bathing for the first time, the side of the tub has pulled away from the grout and tile. It seems to have moved inward. Was it installed incorrectly? How can i fix it to keep it from shifting more? Can i just grout more? What is the best fix?
fill the tub with water and then use silicone to seal the edge.Let dry overnight before draining tub Cheers!
Nice looking tub. I wonder if I can get that type of tub here in Edmonton. I like the quality and the look of it.
Mirolin is a CXanadian conpany. you can get their product through any Wolseley distributor. Cheers! Don;t get the home depot version it is made just for them and is a cheaper quality production.
Mirolin is a Canadian company. It is available through Wolseley in Canada and has limited distribution in the United States.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thanks for this info. You are right with Home depot, its hit or miss sometimes.
Going to blow the lid off the marketing lies they sell one day soon. cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thanks again! I enjoyed watching this video!
No mortar bed?
I recall you mention a Canadian bath tub company you recommend. What is the brand again and what material is the bath tub made of ?
Do you also have an install video for a tub on a concrete slab floor pls?
So, I have a brass valve and iron pipes. Can I join them? Can I use some of that white tape in the threads and be good?
Love the videos :) thank you for sharing.
13:23 when the weed kicks in 😂🤣
Jeff I am hoping you cam guide me.
I am redoing my bath and tile and ran into difficulties with taping and cementing the cement board joints. The tape was not sticking.
Hey Jeff, just bought the the Tuscon. Will install the tub next week. I will use the redgard as suggest in one of your waterproofing videos with the mold proof drywall in the shower area. Can you suggest a floor preparation video that I can follow. I will be using a porcelain tile. Thanks
Do you need to install a support beam across the back side of the tub to rest on against the wall?
depends on the manufacturer. Cheers!
What kind of shims do you use to level a tub and where in Ottawa can I get them?
Thanks again for taking the time and effort to post these videos.
I use a bed of mortar mix. Im in texas though. The mortar makes the bottom of a fiberglass or acrylic tub more sturdy. Once you have it level hit screws in the lip
Great videos! I’m also watching your pex pluming video because I’m about to start a similar project, thanks for the step by step examples :)
We will be showing the whole project over the next couple of weeks. Cheers!
Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing your time and knowledge, do you have a video about how to fix or update 1994 mobile home shower hot and cold water line or how to do the transition from gray pex pipe to white pex pipe or how to replace the old copper elbows any idea please thanks
Why is ABS plastic plumbing in Canada and PVC plastic in the USA? Is there an advantage of using one over the other?
