  • If it’s the perfect couples cruiser with simply stunning Down East styling you seek then this Sabre 43 Salon Express could be right up your alley!
I reckon for anyone transitioning from sailing or moving up from a smaller power vessel with serious cruising in whatever conditions on your mind then this is a boat to consider.
Made in America by people who clearly know what they are doing. I’m beginning to really appreciate the Sabre brand.
Let me know what you think?

I love that you always push the boats to expose their characteristics.

Being from Maine myself, you reviewed a great boat. They also make the Back Cove, the budget version. Hinkley is another awesome Maine brand. All inspired by Maine lobster boats.

Assuming the budget and mission fit, how could someone not be impressed after seeing the boats inshore and near shore performance. Dan, you would know: In my experience many buyers of larger, expensive boats end up reading the Sunday Times on them. This boat would be a waste for them. But for an owner intent on a run from Sydney up to the Gold Coast, Bris and beyond...oh my, what a boat fit for a mission! GREAT boat test, Dan - thank you.

As always great test and footage Dan. I would love to see some Palm Beach(es) on your channel, but Sabre and other Down East style boats I won't say no to!

Lights flashing is the effect of the Lighting's Lamps (bulbs) frequency and the camera's Shutter Speed
    giving that fluttering effect

not a lot of people will go out in 6ft seas, but it is possible to get caught out and have to endure 6ft seas to get home or worse when passing through an inlet on the way home. This boat and hull perform really nicely. I could tell you felt really safe at the helm. I wish I could have this hull with the layout and interior design of the Riviera 58 smy. The deep V with the reverse chine hull with the Riviera Interior layout would be the best of all worlds.

Sabre sure looks a classic & well suited to Syd harbour & Coastal runs . Great review Dan , enjoying your channel.
Would be keen on your thoughts regarding the Finnish Targa & Sargo boats ( around 40 foot) for east Coast Aus conditions.
    Cheers

How would you rate the Sabre compared to Eastbay ?

    • @DSPNJ
      @DSPNJ 5 місяців тому

Was thinking the same thing. Also compare to MJM, Palm Beach, True North, Back Cove, Cutwater, etc. I love these hulls. Wondering if more weight and not lightening the structure would make a more stable ride. Running through the wave as opposed to dropping off the top.

Now let me get this, this commentator want to convince someone such as myself who is looking at going from sail to power. Let me clarify something that I think many of my fellow sailers will comment on. I can guarantee going from a catamaran that cruises at 8 knots under motor and only uses 8 LPH for both motors and then hearing the fuel usage on this vessel IE 100 LPH at 3000 revs and 24 knots, this will have me running not walking away from this boat. If diesel you probably looking at least $2.20 a litre or more at the dock. That is a huge bill for a days motoring in my very humble opinion. I do not understand why the commentator did not give fuel for an 8 to 10 knot range. This is a far more comfortable and I would assume economical fuel usage and more realistic if you have family or friends on board or for coastal cruising.

      8.7 kts @ 1500rpm = 1.52 nm/gallon (US) per Sabre’s data. Or 5.75 liters per my conversion calculator. For ips-600s

ips drives are NOT reliable..long term. To say, "back in the day", that is telling you that IPS drives just aren't reliable long term. its not recent drives that have problems, and literally FAIL, it means that the problem with longevity don't show up until..well you have longevity! So maybe 1000 hours, let's say. So since most users of these drives don't put a lot of hours on them, you won't see the failures for a few years. My neighbor just had to have his drives on his Prestige fixed. 50k! Think about that. And those stories ARE out there by the hundreds, if not thousands. You just don't see them online. My friends story would have never been out there if I didn't post this, just for fun. And if you have dual drives, if you have a problem with one, your gonna have it with the other usually, or at least your going to upgrade the second one when your doing the first one, since you HAVE money, (these boat owners always do) and you would rather spend 15k extra to prevent a problem in real time. Avoid any drive built by Volvo. They are known for great engines, and horrible drives.
